Awkward press conference for Palin

Palin's pres conference was changed at the last minute.
Palin's pres conference was changed at the last minute.

MIAMI (CNN) – Two hours before Thursday morning’s press conference at the Republican Governors Association — her first since the Republican presidential ticket lost last week — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was still scheduled to appear alone. Instead, she spoke with a row of fellow governors standing silently behind her.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told CNN producer Evan Glass that they all met at 9 a.m. - an hour-and-a-half before the press conference’s scheduled start time - and by then it had been "decided" that they'd all go out together.

An RGA official told CNN the reason for the change is a "long story."

He said that when the governors were all at their private morning meeting, someone brought up the desire to get beyond what happened in the McCain campaign and look towards 2009 and 2010.

Then, this source said, Palin piped up and said she agreed that she didn't want to talk about the past.

This source insists that it was then decided that the other governors in the meeting would go with her to her press conference as a "show of unity."

The source admitted that it may not have been easy for some "big egos" to go in and stand behind her, but they knew they'd be doing so.

Not present: the conference host, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. A Florida GOP source tells CNN "he didn't know about it,” because he wasn't at the morning meeting.

In another shift, Palin — who had been slated to take questions for 20 minutes or so - took just four press queries.

Why did Texas Gov. Rick Perry cut it off so fast?

"We were running behind schedule," insisted the GOP official.

Palin may not have wanted to talk about the past, but her speech was almost entirely about the McCain campaign; she included little in the way of detailed ideas about the way forward for Republicans, the theme of the panel.

Didn't someone tell Sarah the election is over?

John McCain should give her a call and tell her there is LONG wait until 2012 when she will lose again.

And they call the Republican's bitter, racists, etc. It is pathetic on how CNN continues to post these ugly messages against Palin. Get over it, I guess it just boils their blood because she is just an ordinary person like the majority of Americans and she is NOT at all part of the Washington crowd. That's why I left the Democratic party, they along with their supporters are no better than the far right Rebpublicans!

Soul searching? They'd have to have a soul to look for first! Gimme a break!

The republicans lost the election because their platform pretty much excluded most americans and alienated the moderate elements of the party. Everybody – except for the mentally challenged republicans themselves – understands this.

Want to win an election? Then don't do what you did in 2006 and 2008.

why can't she go away quietly? She lost. It's okay. She's just damaging her and the republican's brand even more (who thought that was possible).

Pleeeeease make her go away. Even though there are a lot of words coming out of her mouth, there is nothing of substance to be heard. There has to be a sharper knife in the GOP drawer! Silence is truly golden in her case. We have heard enough of Sarah Palin to last us a lifetime!

to "Shamless" – yep, we're "shamless" while the GOP has proven to be one sham after another...including the Alaska Governor. Let her go back and cry on Stevens' aged shoulder in Alaska – the "lower 48" has had enough.

    OMG...well she ever go away!!!
Palin sees an opportunity that she wants to take advantage of.
She wants to be in the limelight all the time and unfortunate for us McCain gave her the perfect opportunity for it.
This stems all the way back to when she was in the beauty pageants.
    She feeds on attention!!!

I know she was pissed and it serves her right, she still does not understand that America rejected her for the clueless, pathological liar that she is.

This person Palin...she embodies the glorification of simplicity. She lacks even the most basic elementary-school level grasp of the English language. I hope that, years from now, she will have disappeared from the national political scene, as did her language-challenged soul twin, Dan Quayle.

I'd like for a reported to ask her about her husband hanging around with the Alaska secessionist group AIP. It'd be interesting to hear her run-on sentences then.

  23. Think First

Maybe someone from the adoring press needs to ask a few probing questions about her attendance at 3 Alaska Independence Party conventions and her March, 2008 welcoming message to them.

There's great footage out there on a seccessionist's channel "Defederalization" from a Nov 2007 convention where all kinds of these groups met and the AIP leader said that Sarah was one of them and the one they wanted to get elected.

Not one of those governors–Barbour, Crist, Hutchinson–would ever attend one of these conventions, much less tell them to "keep up the good work!" Sarah's not going to be able to "fool all the the people all of the time" until 2012–so they better find a new spokesman or get all of their reputations dragged into the mud.

Frankly she is giving women a bad name. What are (and were) the Republicans thinking of? She needs to go sit on her front porch and watch Russia - maybe they will send her a message or something.
She could sell mooseburgers to those who want to sit there and watch with her. Enough is enough – Let's have some sanity, some common sense, and UNITY.
