Cheneys to host Bidens on Thursday

Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife will host the Bidens Thursday.
Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife will host the Bidens Thursday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – As the Obamas did earlier this week, the Bidens will visit their future Washington residence on Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman for Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday.

“Vice President and Mrs. Cheney will host Vice President-elect and Dr. Jill Biden at the Naval Observatory,” said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell. “The Cheneys and the Bidens will have a private meeting and then tour the residence.”

Biden was a harsh critic of Cheney on the campaign trail. During this year’s vice presidential debate, the Delaware senator said Cheney “has been the most dangerous vice president probably in American history.” Like Obama, Biden reveled in the news that Cheney endorsed McCain in a November 1 speech, helping further their argument that the Republican nominee would be a continuation of the Bush-Cheney administration.

Biden has been a senator since 1973 but has never lived in Washington, instead famously taking the train to and from Wilmington, Delaware each day. He told reporters on Election Day that a move to Washington wouldn’t change his family life very much — the biggest shift, he said, was that relatives in Wilmington would have to travel to the nation’s capital for holidays, instead of the reverse.

The move has raised two questions for Biden that Obama has also had to answer: whether his mother will move with him, and what kind of dog to get.

“With Barack inquiring about would I be willing to get vetted [for the vice presidency], Jill said, ‘I’ll make you a deal - if you get the vice presidency and get elected, you can get a dog,’” said Biden.

Dick Cheney is a HERO and deserves to leave office with full military honors. In fact, it should be televised and possibly the NAVY band should play as well.

Long live the GOP !! We are down but certainly NOT out!!!

The mother of all scourge is finally going to be leaving us. This neo-con has single handedly destroyed our country in the last eight years. Dick Cheyney deserves no less than Benito Mussolini.

Thanks for serving our country Mr. Cheney. When the rest of the country is finally made aware of the finding of the 550 metric tonnes of Uranium Yellowcake, and it's subsequent removal on the 'QT' so the bad guys wouldn't get at it to make any dirty bombs, then they might begin to understand the pivital role you really played.

Funny how the MSM just stopped the stories about how 'Lies led to War' without any real explanation as to why...history will be very kind.

    Well done and Godspeed.

Are kidding? Cheney has made tons of money from the failed policies he helped institute, especially from Haliburton (sp?). He ripped all of us off.
His finally leaving should be cheered. People should dance in the streets.
    Good riddance!

Let me first reply to the first comment made on this post. Military honors aren't given to those who do not serve in the military. They aren't given to to those who receive five service deferments and make statements years later like "I had other priorities in the '60s than military service." That's not to say that receiving a deferment makes you a bad person, but it does disqualify you from receiving honors from an organization with which you never served.

Also, "Go Home Barry"? That's a little childish, isn't it? The man hasn't been inaugurated yet. Let's give him ten seconds to screw up before we start in with that.

i don't expect Biden to be a perfect VP. The fact that he was hit with substantial charges of plagiarism during his first run for president doesn't endear him to me. Still, I'm absolutely convinced that he will be better for the country than Cheney has been. Cheney seems to believe that his office gives him infallibility, and he has made claims to powers that the Constitution doesn't bestow him. He ran a campaign of fear during the 2004 election and talked loudly about threats that mysteriously dried up immediately after election day. My overall impression of him is that he was interested in molding America to his own ideals, rather than living up to those of the Constitution and the people he was intended to serve.

Dick Cheney is the worst thing to happen to US foreign policy in my lifetime, and my parent's lifetime. He deserves to leave office in a hearse.

The GOP got its comeuppance a few days ago. It's back to being the party of disaffected Appalachian rednecks, nothing more.

    IRRELEVANT.

So long do nothing Cheney, except keep the oil companies in money and padding your own pockets. He does not deserve a nod.
