I'm really sick of the conservatives saying Obama is a 'socialist.' Socialism has already been enacted by the Republicans when they 'redistributed the wealth' to the rich with Bush's tax cuts for the rich. Why are they so against having an educated man in the White House? Probably because they'll be found out for the lying, corrupt, cronyism crooks they are. Our economy is in the toilet because of their 'Socialism' and failed economic policies. Their only hope is to keep repeating the factless lies that seem to be the only thing they have left.
Um, I applied through change.gov and saw nothing like this application. There is no PDF questionnaire. There are no requests for tax returns or blog posts. I did fill out a 10 page (give or take) online questionnaire with all the standard questions any new job would ask. Now I may not have received all requests for information yet, but you may want to double check your sources.
I like the transparency and accountability being forged by the Obama administration.

My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska’s investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars.
But this forking over of details did not apply to Obama himself, nor did the media demand it, nor did the American people who just put their collective heads in the sand on this one.
Obama is nothing but rhetoric and a bumper sticker slogan.

I had a friend apply for the FBI and the questions they ask and digging they do is A LOT worse than this. I think Obama is trying to pre-screen folks so if they clearly do not qualify, they do not have to start the FBI process for vettng and security clearances that are time consuming and expensive.

I requested an application to serve on the Obama/Biden administration on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. This morning I received the application. It took me approximately 30 minutes or less to complete. I would be honored to serve our new President's administration in what ever capacity I qualify for. They even had the Peace Corps as an area for service.

I take issue with many of the questions on that "application", good thing I would never fill it out. Obama may be the President-elect and as such will have my respect for the position but not the person. I would like to see his responses to this application.

Ther are several mistakes in the PDF application.
On page 6 paragraph "VII Domestic Help" the questions (54), (55) and (56) make reference to question (49) and it doesn't make sense.
They should refer to question(53).

I received the application and it was fairly straightforward. It asked for my job history, references, education, a copy of my resume, and then asked for the industries and agencies in which I've worked. Perhaps this was just step 1 (actually step 2), but I think CNN's reporting of this is a bit inaccurate.
Specifically, the longer "tell us everything" application is standard for anyone seeking a political position. Background checks are standard and, especially for those positions that require confirmation, can be extensive.
This is not something odd or unusual about the Obama administration. What's unusual is the fact that they are accepting applications from anyone. Usually, administrations don't ask for application. They simply seek out individuals (friends, past co-workers, significant campaign workers) that they already know.
I don't really blame them for having such a long application. They want to ensure they don't get applicants like Palin getting past the interview process like she did w/ John McLiar.
Why did n't they do this to BO? The american people are still asking the question, Who is BO?
It's extremely thorough....so what!?! Might as well disclose everything because the media, political figures, etc. will and they will scrutinize every appointment he makes. This way he will know about his appointments' skeletons before it airs on primetime news. I say if you don't like it then don't apply! Simple as that!
What an honor to be able to serve Mr. Obama and the American public. No question is off limits, we need to completly vet everyone and anyone who has an interest in serving this great nation of ours. We need to make sure that there are no hidden agendas.

No way would I want a job with this man. CBS news put a story this morning stating that Hillary would have won by a wider margin if she was up against McCain. The Democrats picked the weaker candidate. Unbelievable. If the media was actually neutral, Obama wouldn't have made it past the primaries. Also, the CBS news story noted that 26% of Democrats voted for McCain.
I cannot wait for the liberal media to start eating their own, that being obama. He even thinks about leaving the left to move to the middle they will be at this throat. However, I do not expect him to leave the left so he will have his one term like jimmy carter.
So because Obama wants to make sure the people in his admin have up to date gun registrations and appropriately filed tax returns, he's a dictator? Yes, this is quite a job application with alot of very personal questions, but its not like these people are applying to work at Wal-Mart, McDonalds or even a high profile company like CNN or someplace like that. These people would be applying for a job to work for the President of the United States. At any time in history a job working for the President should require quite a bit of questioning that you would not receive at another job, but at this time in history I honestly would be surprised if they didn’t ask questions like this.
This is meaty. President-Elect Obama knows how to run an organization. Especially a government administration. This guy's stuff is watertight.

It does not look too far out of line but I have one question, where are the first few pages and requests for information?
This document looks a little made up to me, there is no mention of Obama or president elect or transition team until near the end, also the document says Obama transition foundation and everything on change.gov says Obama-Biden Transition team.

1) Yes, many of these questions would be problematic (or possibly illegal) to ask as a private employer. The government plays by different rules.
2) I suspect that this is just an initial screening question set. As TC notes, a full Security Clearance document is considerably longer and much more intrusive. (Also, providing false info on one of those is a Federal offence.)
3) I don't see how owning a gun disqualifies someone. Illegaly owning one might.
3) Yes, this does blur the line between public and private information. And that is troubling. OTOH, I suspect that the responses to this questionnaire will be kept secret (even from misguided FOIA requests). The public does not have a "right to know" about every applicant, and only a limited right to know about actual hires.
4) I think that the Obama administration-preparers are doing the right thing here. They are trying to reduce the chances of a "Nannygate" or other media-driven quasi-scandal like the Clinton and Bush administrations did. It shows to me that this adminstration has apparently learned from the mistakes of the past. (Which won't prevent them from making new ones, or finding new ways to make old mistakes - that's life as a human.)
If you have ever applied for a government job, the application is an open book to your life–they leave no stones unturned. And by the time you finished the lengthly application–someone has already filled the position–good luck to the applicants.

I think this is pretty much a non issue. Its barely news worthy. Why not replace it with substantive reporting on what experts (not pundits) think about what specific scenarios will play out with certain policy decisions. Like, what will SPECIFICALLY happen if we don't bail out GM.

To get a job with a major bank I have had to fill out questionnaire almost as long as this. Basically they want to know everything you did, said, bought or owe, for the last 10 years. And this was just to work as a service agent for a bank. So, no shock that to get a job working within a stones throw of the commander of the free world, you have to provide a lot of details about your self. Good. We dont want any unpleasant surprises to pop up.

Nothing wrong with being thorough, but it is only fair to note that when people in America (not just right-wing nutjobs, but actual independent thinkers) spoke up and wanted to know the same about Obama, the media and the left-wingers drowned them out. While that may be true, that doesn't mean the media was giving us anything substantial and this detailed IN the news coverage.

And I already had a Top Secret Codeword Special Intelligence clearance when I applied! I wonder if that employment would disqualify me for a position in the Obama Administration?
