The Justice Department annnounced an indictment against Arizona Rep. Richard Renzi Thursday.

(CNN) — Rep. Richard Renzi of Arizona has been reindicted on 43 criminal counts by a federal grand jury in Arizona, adding racketeering and tax allegations to previous charges, the Justice Department announced Thursday.

The superseding indictment stems from a land deal that allegedly netted Renzi more than $700,000 in exchange for supporting legislation. It comes as Renzi, a Republican, prepares to leave office and face a criminal trial.

He announced he would not seek re-election after he was indicted last February.

Three other defendants also were named in the new indictment.

Lets have some more whine from you cheesey republicans.

Go ahead, say it ACORN! I knew you could, except ACORN didn't commit election fraud, they turned themselves in for registration fraud, fired the workers who commited the fraud, and moved on!

Go factcheck yourselves! Get over it, and stop voting for these criminals!

Fred May Sr. WA ST   November 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

We all pick on the politicians for thier wrongs but, WHO PUT THEM IN OFFICE? Let those who voted for the accused look in the mirrow and say its my fault. When you vote THINK.

It is very simple way to do with Rep. Richard Renzi just lock him up. Like the former president of Taiwan.

Old White Man in Colorado   November 14th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Don't despair, Bush will pardon them all.

chris   November 14th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Why is the republican party so ripe with thieves and corruption? One has to ask themselves this as the republicans try to regroup. Maybe THIS is why the party has no trust from the American people? Lock him up and throw away the key. All these slaps on the wrist apparently aren't doing anything to deter other republicans from following suit.

The Tomatorizer   November 14th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

And, by the way, if the Democratic Congressman from Louisiana who is accused of taking bribes is found guilty, I think he should certainly be sharing a cell with Renzi.

Red State Republican who voted for CHANGE!   November 14th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Another "RETHUGLICAN" bites the dust! What a disgrace to our party. Throw all of these law breakers out! Then we can start rebuilding from the ground up. By the way, I know in my state that if your a convicted felon you loose your right to vote. How the heck is Senator Stevens going to be able to vote in the senate? Just a question! He is another that needs to be thrown out!

Be careful with John McCain .he might have some knowledge of RENZI who is also from Arizona. Ah! just when the Cardinals are making a move Renzi is also making a move but to the JAIL.

Darrell   November 14th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Renzi, just another carpetbagger who moved to Arizona to run for congress. An east coast idiot who tried to come here to Arizona and protray himself concerend about the People of his District and Arizona. Now he is up on charges of corruption, this is just another corrupt Republican who was looking out for himself and his buddies. He ran in the rural area of Arizona in hopes no one there would see what he was doing. OOPS! he got caught and the White House tried to get the Justice Department to not push the case through. That is why Mr. Charleston was fired by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Thank God the Grand Old Pundits are limited to power for the next four years. Greedy Jerks!

Peter (CA)   November 14th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

A Republican caught in corruption? Shocking!

For all of you foaming at the mouth right wingers…..William Jefferson deserves jail also. I have no qualms about that.

And the ACORN stuff….yeah, never materialized did it? Ask about Republican operatives in jail for voter fraud thanks to YPM and Lincoln Strategy.

Matt   November 14th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

This whole time the McCain campaign was just misunderstood by the Right-Wing MSM. When it came to shady land deals, they didn't mean Rezko, they meant Renzi! I can see where the confusion came from.

For a party that preaches enforcing Christian morality at the point of a gun, a lot of its members seem to forget little things like "Thou shall not steal". There are still some good Republicans out there, but they need to dump the crooks, liars and hypocrites overboard and get back to basics.

So it's "43″.

Now we know how many crimes a Republican office holder has to commit before the Bush Justice Department will do something about it.

I know that Senator Clinton would make a good Secretary of State. But I am personally hoping that Obama makes her Attorney General.

She should be able to clean up the Bush crimes just in time to take the first opening on the Supreme Court.

How come it is Republicans who are always caught for being "dirty" and being corrupt? Oh wait, it could be because Democrats are better at hiding it…

You just watch 2009 – 2012 will be the time to focus on which Democrats are dirty…I mean look at Franken, trying to steal the election from the peope of Minn.

Look at Acorn and the embezzlement, and fraud there…registering people to vote who don't exist…I bet they voted in the Minn election.

I just see that being in "politics" is like walking among land mines. what is the saying about …. "power currupting absolutely?" we need the checks and balances not only in our financial systems but in our political systems – obviously. When something smells rotten – check it out – then clean it up! Fix it.

Nobody is perfect in this world – and always be careful about throwing the stones!!

Another fine example of why the Republicans lost across the country. They say one thing, talk about truth and honesty on government while doing exactly the opposite. Maybe they could win an election if they stopped the LIES that the GOP has adopted as a way to run campaigns. The American people saw through all the lies and said so with their votes.

Red, Red Whine!   November 14th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

It has become painfully obvious that the only way republicans do anything is with criminal allies and deceptive reasons. The republican party is a cancerous fungus of america. It must be eliminated once and for all. It's full of nothing but felons and frauds!

But I am sure that the democrats with COVER IT UP.

Jackie in Dallas   November 14th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

I agree that if guilty he should certainly pay the price. But where is the American ideal of innocent until proven guilty? I'm a moderate who voted for Obama, and not a neo-con Repubilican. Let him have his day in court before yelling "off with his head"! He, at least, stepped down when indicted. Now Stevens, ooohhh, that's a different matter! He HAS been found guilty of a felony (technically, I think, seven felonies).

As for Bush, et. al. even though CNN wouldn't publish my comment on Cafferty's file yesterday, I adhere to believing that a large number of the Bush administration were guilty of malfeasance in office, and that we cannot prevent it from happening again if we don't know actually what happened.

Stevens has a 7 felony-count indictment. That looks like a misdemeanor compared to this congressman. Renzi has a racketeering charge. That's what mob guys get charged with. He should be tried under the RICO law. Plus this guy was chairman of McCain's Arizona campaign. I'm shocked that this story didn't break during the election. Sounds a bit shady. This is just another reason why we need term limits in place for all politicians, not just the presidency. When they're in office too long, they just get corrupted by the power they wield and forget why they ran for office in the first place. None of these positions were ever meant to be careers.

Michael M, Phoenix AZ   November 14th, 2008 11:09 am ET

They have been after him for years, but like the Alaskans, a lot of stupid Arizonan's in his district keep on re-electing him. My wife hit the nail on the head when we first got transferred out here, and that this state has just too much "cowboy mentality."

Really? 43 criminal counts? Was this guy head of the Arizona Mafia or what.? How many criminal counts are Bush and Cheney facing? Apparently when it comes to law enforcement, the idea is to catch the small fish first.

Another One Down! Get All Of The Crooks Out! Republican And Democrat!

Dylan, Los Angeles   November 14th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Yet another? This is getting out of control.

Rockford   November 14th, 2008 11:04 am ET

I guess the land deal guy turned over evidence…

It's a shame Tony Rezko didn't… but then again he's awaiting his pardon… and hush money.

Brandon   November 14th, 2008 11:03 am ET

are we really that surprised!!!! I'm sure there will be many more government reps being invested soon. Get them out and lets unite this country by actually putting people in power who are honoreable and loyal to their constituents.

Maggie from Virginia   November 14th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Republicans Gone Wild! Someone should make a documentary about corruption in the GOP.

caj   November 14th, 2008 11:01 am ET

One more of those useless Republicans found guilty…..wonder when Ted Stevens is going to have to face the music!!!
I am so glad to be seeing the back of this disgraceful administration, what a pathetic bunch they are and they wanted the American people to trust them for another 4 years!!!!!
Do they think we were really that DUMB!!!

Tracy M.   November 14th, 2008 10:59 am ET

Well, thank God he didn't have an affair with an intern. That would be REALLY bad! I just want to know: Why don't these people ever go to jail? At the very least, he should be pouring cement foundations for Habitat for Humanity.

What the...?   November 14th, 2008 10:59 am ET

Are there any NON-corrupt politicians any more?

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   November 14th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Another GOP in trouble with the law? It can't be; they're the party of family and high moral values!

Liberal and Proud of It   November 14th, 2008 10:57 am ET

Those who use public office for corrupt purposes are commiting treason, in my opinion. I hope that every judge who sentences a public official who has been found guilty of using public office for personal gain gives the culprit the maximum sentence: as many years as possible in the clink and the biggest fine the law will allow.

The only form of treason that is worse is committed by those who try to fix or alter election results.

Ryan in Omaha   November 14th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Bye bye.
