Obama taps former Clinton impeachment attorney, says source

CHICAGO (CNN) - Prominent Washington lawyer Greg Craig will be named White House counsel for the Obama administration, a Democratic source tells CNN. The source added that it is unclear when the appointment will be made public.

Craig first gained prominence representing President Clinton in the Senate impeachment trial, but he endorsed Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries and later played a key role in Obama's vice presidential vetting process.

CNN reported Friday that Craig was under stong consideration to be named as the incoming president's top lawyer, according to three officials close to the presidential transition. One of those officials said Craig was "highly regarded" and trusted for his discretion by Obama.

I love hearing about all these appointments. This is the first time in my adult life I've been so thoroughly enthralled by politics. :-)

the selection of Joe Biden as the VP candidate on the Dem ticket can hardly be truthfully described as part of the "vetting process".

How old is this gentleman? We Democrats need to bring some new, fresh minds into Washington so that we develop our bench for 2012 and 2016.

If we don't, we'll be just like the GOP was this year.

They had to run an guy past his prime and pair that with a newbie that wasn't ready for prime time.

Thank God Obama's top attorney couldn't save Clinton from impeachment (which Slick Willie so richly deserved). That means he's as awful as the other Democratic attorneys are. Welcome to the firestorm, Craig. Please feel free to be as incompetent as you have been in the past.

I wonder if that may mean they are thinking about impeaching Bush.... I think he has done enough stuff to warrant it over the years.
Whatever the reason, President elect Obama will have the smartest people around him once he becomes President next year and will get good advice from them all.
What a wonderful way to start the New Year....can't wait for Jan 20th.

Looks like for all Oblama's political posturing about the "Status Quo" and his denigrating and racist remarks about the Clinton's now have him doing a 180 degree turn and employing everyone who worked for Bill & Hill… including Bill & Hill...

Now I call that CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN...

This is getting funnier and funnier, this will turn out to be clinton third term after all. I love it, all the idiots that voted for change, should have just voted for hillary, at least we would have the real deal at the top and not a puppet.

    Oh dear,
I don't know if this is a good sign or not. however, he certainly did a fantastic job covering Clinton's tail with all of his problems!!

And we all know Bill had a lot to deal with. So this guy must be an excellent attorney.

Is this the change we can believe in? What is up with Barack? I understand he needs experienced people, but all of these appointments seem more like favors rather than qualifications. Where are the new people Barack promised to put in the White House? So far, all I have seen are former Clinton workers. I thought he called Hillary a Washington insider. I do not mind Hillary having a position in the White House. She worked very hard for the campaign and deserve something. What is up with all of these other Washington insiders? Because Barack got a free ride in this election, does not mean the next one will be the same.

    From Obama Barack
