Schwarzenegger likes the idea of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.
Schwarzenegger likes the idea of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

(CNN) – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger weighed in on the possibility of Hillary Clinton becoming President-elect Barack Obama's Secretary State, praising the potential choice as a "great move."

"I think she is a very very bright woman and very experienced. I think this could be a great move," Schwarzenegger told ABC's George Stephanopoulos in an interview set to air Sunday.

But Schwarzenegger, a Republican, also suggested Obama must be sure he can work with his former primary rival before he officially offers her the position.

"When it comes to those kinds of positions, what is equally as important, and I know with my cabinet, what is equally as important as who is qualified, is who can you work with. Who can you sit down with and really get in there and start becoming a partner [with], that sees things the way you see it," he said.

"And also that you maybe want to learn from that person and admire that person so much that you want to pick up some pointers and learn from that person, so that they together can go out and do this," Schwarzenegger also said.

Sources told CNN Friday Obama met with Clinton in Chicago Thursday to gauge the New York senator's interest in the top diplomatic post. Sources also told CNN Obama is considering New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson for the position.

Clinton would not comment on the speculation Friday.

Arnold can't run California and he's trying to tell Obama how to run his White House! Why is this news?

BM   November 16th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Sounds like I could run for govenor if Palin with only a B.S which took six years to complete and not knowing geography is suffient, then hell, I stand to be victorious. I do have a M.A, plus. Don't know about Arnold. He never aroused my curiosity to even check his credentials.
I think he won because people confused fiction from reality.

BM   November 16th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Arnold has to worry about California burning. Sounds like Mississippi burning. He needs to go back to doing action films. Being a govenor sounds like the one from Alaska.

Change doesn' t necessarily mean people, but change in policy. Like the policies of the past 8 years that ran this country into the ground.

Whyi downt yo just oufer Hillary posetiona of CoPresident ?

keno sims   November 16th, 2008 12:16 am ET

…But I do think that Hillary would make a great Secretary of State!!! It's just not Arnold's place to say it. ARNOLD, YOU WILL NEVER BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. GIVE IT UP. But your wife would make a good president.

Will - OKC   November 16th, 2008 12:15 am ET

Wow, who told Arnold that anyone cares what he thinks of Obama's appointments?

This is the guy who was, in true childish Republican style, deriding Obama for being a "wimp" at one of McCain's White Power rallies.

keno sims   November 16th, 2008 12:13 am ET

Arnold, this is none of your business. I think Arnold is a troublemaker. You should go back to making movies: Conan 3, Total Recall 2, True Lies 2, etc. Shut up and good night

Rob   November 16th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Arnold backed Palin too! He really had an eye for LIABILITIES.

Dave L   November 16th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Is Arnold really doing that bad of a job? He seems to be really trying. His stance on energy policy and global warming is far more progressive than typical republicans. He has been trying to reconcile the CA state budget deficit by cutting spending without raising taxes (although it can't be done without raising taxes).
I wonder if he has any sorts of regrets about endorsing McCain… he gave his endorsement early on before the campaign got ridiculous.

SEVERAL OF YOU WANTS OBAMA "THE CLOWN" TO CHOOSE BILL RICHARDSON. I MAY NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT OBAMA BOUGHT AND WAS SELECTED TO BE THE PRESIDENT, BUT EVEN I WILL NOT WISH RICHARDSON ON "THE CLOWN". RICHARDSON IS THE WORST FRIEND ANYONE CAN HAVE. RICHARDSON CAN STAB YOU IN THE BACK WHILE STILL LAUGHING AT YOUR FACE. THERE IS NOTHING WORST THAN "A TRAITOR". I WOULD NOT WISH THIS MAN RICHARDSON ON ANYBODY'S WORST ENEMY. "A TRAITOR HE WAS YESTERDAY, A TRAITOR HE IS TODAY, AND A TRAITOR HE WILL BE TOMORROW." THIS IS WHY I LOVE REAGAN, AND OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT BUSH. "LOYALTY". I THINK THIS WORD IS THE SWEETEST WORD IN HUMAN LANGUAGE AND I TRULY BELIEVE RICHARDSON WHOLE BEING IS DEVOID OF THE WORD "LOYALTY". SO EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT LIKE THE SELECTION PROCESS OF THIS PRESIDENT, I WILL NOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE WISH THIS TRAITOR ON HIM. DO NOT DO IT OR HE WILL HANG YOU TO DRY JUST LIKE HE DID CLINTONS. "A TRAITOR NEVER CHANGES SPOTS."

WHO CARES WHAT ARNOLD HAS TO SAY! Obama didn't win with his help! I do believe that he and Obama may think along the same lines but Obama isn't a political opportunist compromising his core beliefs just to get elected! Arnold you are old news and theres a new feeling in this country and President-elect Obama represents that feeling!

Peter (CA)   November 15th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

You right wingers will continue to foam at the mouth no matter what….

This country is an absolute mess mostly (but not exclusively) due to the screwed up agenda of the last 8 years. Obama needs to hit the ground running….he needs highly experienced people to make the process go.

So, yeah, he is considering people like Richardson and Clinton. If he had chosen neophytes you would be complaining about that. Here is an idea….lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Ted, Washington DC   November 15th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Richardson a secretary of State? You must be joking.

Harry S. Sudman   November 15th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

nancy hughes   November 15th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

Dixie AZ   November 15th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

The Stallion & The Champ vs. The Old Mule & Winky Half-baked Alaska   November 15th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Arnold is just trying to save his reputation at this point after campaigning so hard for John McCain and will say anything to stay in the public's favor no matter who says it. No principles, no original ideas on the table, no solutions, no nuthin'. Fortunately for him, his wife and her solid convictions and reputation saves his behind everytime.

Phyllis   November 15th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

To reiterate the general concensus, who cares what Schwarzenegger thinks?

Fred   November 15th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Thank you Arnold. I am happy to see that someone else backs
Hillary for the for the Secretary of State job. I thank that the choice
to choose her would be a know brainier. She has the experience
needed for this job, and she has been a diplomat in the past as
first lady and as a U.S. Senator. I thank that Richardson would be
a bad choice. He lacks the skills and seems to be more of a two
faced person anyway. So Mr. President Elect, please go for Hillary.

jm from sc   November 15th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

While I support Obama's decision to consider Clinton, I want Arnold to shut up. He has said enough already.

Mike   November 15th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Arnold is stepping places he shouldn't. He should be focusing on California, California, California. The state has enough problems … why get into national politics?

Soft Republican converted to Heavy Democrat 08   November 15th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

The only reason why Republicans want to accuse Arnold of being a Democrat is because he understands America a lot better then the less educated Republicans.

AllenH   November 15th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I'd like to see Hilary Clinton remain in the senate. She may be too ambitious and hard-headed to be Sec of State. She should put that to work to become Majority Leader (I can't stand Harry Reid) and use her capital and clout to push Obama's programs there – especially health care reforms.

Richardson might be very good but (at least for the near term) Colin Powell would be a great choice. He knows the players, he has a manner and intellect similar to Obama and there wouldn't be any need for on-the-job training. He'd be up to speed from day one.

Martha   November 15th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

And you wanted CHANGE….you should have voted for Palin..now she would have been a real change knowing that she would have NOT chosen any of the above…there is NO CHANGE in this new ADMINISTRION..JUST PAY BACKS. You better keep all the change you have, because you will need it to get through these next four years. We are on a big roller-coaster with pennies. Putting Hillary and possibly John McCain in high-level positions in his administration would be proof positive that BO really wants to practice bi-partisan government. If anybody thinks change means naming a bunch of DC insiders to your team – I got a bridge to sell you. Obama's staff will include Biden (35 years in DC), Clinton, (too many years in DC already) Richardson (20 years in DC, his chief of staff, Dodd, Kerry (20+ years in DC) and a host of other long time DC insiders. If we wanted another Clinton in the administration, she would be president elect right now. Barack has made a politically expedient move, as evidenced by Arnold's endorsement. I, for one, have had my confidence in Barack Obama shaken by this announcement. I guess it politics as usual, and change we can all now have some doubt about. I can't believe Barack has made me a cynical about his Presidency, and he hasn't even picked out the drapes. Barack, read our lips, no more Clintons.

Schwarzenegger is UNQUALIFIED to comment on Obama's selection for Secretary of State. This is above his pay grade. Arnold is a governor of a state, Obama is going to be president of the nation. Who cares what Arnold thinks. He's not even a good governor. His focus should be on improving the state of California and its poor educational system and other problems.

It' bad enough that he won by riding her coattails (mixing phrases/ rhetoric, and juxtaposing Hillary's messages) always as the latter speaker in the debates. Arnold may be a republican but he governs like a sensible democrat. I agree with his endorsement of Hilliary for Secretary of State. It is also imperative that Obama establishes a good rapport with her. Remember this is still Bill Clintons wife and will come with some of the built-in Clinton influence. However I have confidence in the Obama machine that methodically rolled from announcing his bid to be president all the way to the White House. Hilliary and Richardson would both be exceptional candidates for the position. I know this is probably a very difficult decision for Obama to make. I hope that each of these bright dedicated civil servants will be a part of a Obama administration.

If Arnold suggest Hillary is the best choice then I say Obama better look for another person.

Arnolds opions is worth about a plug nickol.

Colin Powell would be my first pick, also my second and third pick

Tamara   November 15th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Hillary as Secretary of State is a great idea. I was a strong supporter of Hillary during the primary and was disappointed during the general election that she was not our nominee but I am impressed by the choices that Obama has made to be in his administration. I am so sick of the attacks and fighting from both the far left and far right of the parties.

After all the attacks and crap that Hillary Clinton took during the primary she showed what she was made of and campaigned hard for Obama in the areas that he needed to win. Give credit to the Clintons and I mean both Bill and Hillary for the campaining they did in the central park of Florida that went heavily for Obama.

Obama is making the right choice by bringing in the most sucessful administration of all times. We had peace and prosperity when Clinton was in office and we will have it again. Obama said it himself when Bill campaigned with him in Florida. Bill Clinton is loved and respected around the world and we do need another Clinton to clean up this mess.

YES! Hillary for SOS! Don't worry about conflicts of interest because of Bill's activities. The Clinton's survived Whitewater and Monica and can survive anything as long as there is a Democrat in the White House.

I don't care how hard Obama looks for squeaky clean cabinet members, there are going to be characters with shady pasts popping up all over the place. In politics…. there are no purists!

Hillary would be an outstanding White House PressReporter, working with CNN. She and CNN would be an outstanding team, both are exceptional at maniupating the news to say what they want it to say. Amazing how the die-hard Obama fans express chagrin at the thought of two intelligent people of great courage and conviction, (Clinton and Lieberman) getting recognized by the new Pres-elect as they deserve.

All through the Campaign we heard CHANGE< CHANGE.
but did it ever dawn on you that Obama's idea of change was never really EXPLAINED?????
What Obama did share at rallies was his admiration of Lincoln for brininging in political foes to strengthen his Administration. What he stressed in his book was the need for bipartisanship and the fusion of opposing ideals for the common good.
"We can all agree that we should work toward decreasing the number of abortions…" among other things.

I voted against the guy twice this year because I really didn't believe he would do what he said. But at least I remember what he said.

If these OBAMABOTS really think productive CHANGE in WASHINGTON means bringing in all your own new people to do your bidding, they weren't paying attention.

I never cared for kool-aid, but I am pleased as punch to see a candidate work to keep his promise.

Go President-Elect!
Do right by the conscious-driven Lieberman!
Use the talents of Hillary and McCain if you can!
Stop GRIDLOCK AND PANDERING IN WASHINGTON!!!!

Bonnie Swartley   November 15th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

She would be the most qualified person. She has the capability
to be the President, proven by her campaign performance, and
SOS, would challenge those capabities and she is up to the de-
manding challenges that position poses. We need the most
capable person, especially in today's world.

" blacks and whites are equal, but that Obama is the wrong one?" My guess is that you would never vote for a black man or woman for anything.
When Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly and Hannity are out there warning about Obama, and gun sales are up, and Klan members are parading around my town, that is a bad sign for America. What is wrong with people? Obama is not even sworn in, and the doom and gloom folks can't stop themselves.
On the other hand, had McCain/Palin won, I would be worried about the annihilation of the world in the name of "security." I would be worried about Todd Palin hanging out in her office with sensitive documents. I would be worried about John McCain not having a clue what to do for the economy, and turning to the current crops of crooks who gave us the wonderful bailout scheme. I would be really worried that my privacy rights would take further abuse from republicans who think the Constitution is optional; that executive orders are there to protect their misdeeds, and that the Justice Dept. is their to control. That thinking must stop.
Obama is not perfect, but he is a far superior choice for this country at this time in history. The racists will have to get a life, I guess, and stop moaning and threatening.

Commenter here need to let go of their CDS. Obama won, so stop trying to forward all of these terrible conspiracies about Hillary and Bill Clinton. If Hillary was as devious and manipulative as people make her out to be, don't you think that she would be president right now instead of Obama. She's by far the most qualified name floated for SoS so far. Obama supporters: Shouldn't his Administration be about creating the best team to move America forward? Concern Citizen   November 15th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

Schwarzenegger has spoken! Sorry Mr Arnold, but your wise input is coming in late. You should have adviced your friend McCain to make a wise selection for his VP candidate, maybe this position will have been offered to you. I think Clinton and Richardson should be well vetted and the job be given to the most qualified candidate. Also, i am a little concern on the pressure this may have on the secret service if Clinton is offered this job as she receives service from them 24/7. I believe she and the husband should be able to seperate her job description from his Global objective.

Hillary would be a good choice but I have some reservations that were made evident in her primary campaign.

She said something to the tune that "we will blow iran to smithereens". Don't remember the exact quote.

This is something I would expect of the "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran guy, McCsomething, I think.

I would hope that it was only primary rhetoric that she was giving.

This would give Iran ground to say that Israel should be obliterated.

After Schwarzeneggers's endorsement speech for McCain (shortly before the election, circa November 1, 2008), I don't know why anyone would listen to a word he says. His superficial endorsement was filled with negative campaigning, fear tactics and was geared to the uneducated who might just believe that McCain is an "action figure". Arnie, I love your wife and her family, but you blew it with me. You can't even make good on the energy issue with me. As far as your quotes above go, you sound like a superficial male chauvinist politician. You'd be better to keep your mouth shut, change parties, and take advice from your wife. If you reread your own words, you'd recognize that you sound like Palin in a pantsuit. Go to school and keep quiet.

It's a big risk for both Clinton and Obama, and Clinton may have too much baggage in the "Bill" compartment. Clinton might fail miserably, then she'd have to be moved aside or fired; of she might not get along with Obama and may turn into a lone ranger (again, something that would get her fired). I think this may have been an offer with no real expectation of acceptance.

I think Hillary would be a firm, respected, and accepted hand with international partners, and maybe a little over the top for potential foes, and most important, she may be a little reluctant to stick to script, which can be a benefit, and a problem, because she can adapt, Bill on the other hand, seems too diplomatic at times, almost begging for peace, that could be taken advantage of if not careful, but he will in my opinion play within the rules framework. I would pick Hillary hands down, and move Richardson to deal with FEMA if Obama keeps it.

I'm a HRC supporter from day one and feel she is the best pick fr Sec. of State. I thought that maybe she should not accept but now I feel that Obama should pick only the best and HRC is the best, so I am 100% behind Obama, and this country will be better for this selection. If Obama comes through and selects Hillary then I know this country has made the best choice for President.
And for the first time since this election process started, I wil regret my vote for Sen. McCain.
Let the healng begin and we as Americans need to put this election behind us and start rebuilding this great country of ours .Good Luck, President Obama and God bless you and your family. And God Bless the U.S.A. Proud Latino now a Proud supporter of President Elect Obama!

I didn't know where to put this so I thought I would start here. I think it would be a good idea if CNN, who has actually done quite a lot in regards to trying to educate Americans about race relations and history in this country, should begin to throw a very big spotlight on the acts of racial hatred being displayed in various parts of the country since the election. They are not insignificant acts. They are venomous and dangerous. No one in his or her wildest dreams had any illusions that racism had disappeared in America, but what has started to emerge in the last two weeks is something more than just a few incidents. It represents a culture of hate that is all the more dangerous because it has lost and is frightened by this new identity of America, an identity it never understood existed.

The infiltration of democrats into OUR party has effected the quality of OUR Party. The leftist will say anything to gain power. Conservatives wouldn't elect Arnold for anything. Only propped-up democrats hiding in sheeps clothing trying to steer the true republicans into the immoral abyss of the democrat Party………..The party of demoralizing the event of abortion to a precedure and income tax increase for distribution of wealth to the "poor". Hillary Clinton is smart, an excellent negotiator, strong, resilient, knowledgable and experienced in world affairs and most certainly knows how to talk intelligently on matters of State. Margo   November 15th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

Good Advice Arnold. It's a good day, no stories about Palin!

Vic   November 15th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Arnold is a true Democrat (another reason I like him) – he had to chose the republican party due to the circumstances at the time he was elected governor of California.
Anyway, he needs to switch party's and show the world he's a Democrat.

AZMan   November 15th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Will the GOP kindly revoke Arnold's republican card? This guy has thrown more support to the leftist agenda than Barney Frank. Gays, Clintons, and amnesty are NOT on the GOP top 10 favorites.. You heard it here first (from a republican), THROW THE BUM OUT!

Jacqueline   November 15th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

I have thought for a very long time that HIlary would be best at Secretary of State because she is so smart and is well liked by the people in other countries. She would shine.

Hillary is Obama's best choice – especially when you look at the alternatives!

Say yes Hillary – for the sake of the USA and our global community! :)

The Repubs are really coming out of the woodwork to give advice to our president-elect… How generous! I'm sure there aren't any possible ulterior motives at play, no chance!

Soft Republican converted to Heavy Democrat 08   November 15th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Bush you said free trade is good and that you don't want any regulation put on it, because it hurts free trade. What is it going to take for you to wake up and pull your head out of the sand. Free trade is a good thing, but not without regulation and oversight. What about lead paint found in childrens toys imported from overseas. Lead is a poison, the kids play with the toys put them in there mouths then swallow the lead. What about the contaminated milk products imported which is contaminated and killing people not just overseas but in the U.S. as well. What about all the jobs being sent overseas, thus making the economy unstable. I bought a Dell Pc and I have to talk to a person over in India, which I have a hard time understanding due to there heavy accent.

Someone had posted on another blog that the Democrats are spewing hate and that the Democrats should be renamed KKK. Excuse me but the hate and division all started with Palin at all her rally's, did anyone ever see someone at an Obama rally caring a monkey with an Obama sticker. I could go on, but I choose not to. So republicans stand up for once and admit that Palin was/is a domestic terrorist with all her scare tactics about who Obama was, up to a week ago Palin was still talking about Ayer's.

So the republicans need a desperate face lift with not only getting rid of bush, but also by not letting Palin ever back into the spotlight again. A good majority of the republican party did not even vote this year according to CNN, I wonder why that was. Was it because they themselves did not like Palin and found her not qualified to fill the shoes of McCain should the need arise. The Gallup Poll says according to all americans polled who don't want to see palin as a major national political figure 45 yes 52 no. Republicans couldn't bring themselves to vote this year, but they could not bring themselves to vote for obama. Another poll shows that 70% americans believe that Obama will help the economy. Except of course the hate inspiring Limbaugh.

GRB   November 15th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Consideration of New Mexico's Gov. Bill Richardson for the position of Secretary of State is the far superior choice
.World leaders have not and will not forget this man ..very reminscent of of NBC's Tim Russert .

bk   November 15th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Clinton should have been the president, not the token Obama with no experience.

CJ   November 15th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

As a proud Obama supporter, I am ecstatic that he and Biden won the election. I am relieved that Palin will not be anywhere near the White House for at least 8 years. However, if the GOP is looking for relevance and leadership they could not do any better than Arnold. I would not have any problem voting for him quite honestly though I know that he cannot be president since he was not born a citizen but was naturalized. He does not argue with reason and science (global warming, etc) nor does he feel what other people do with their sex lives is anyone's business but their own. If the GOP would move in this direction they would be a formidable opponent. They would certainly lose their right wing, delusional, Left Behind, religious base but they might gain significantly in those who favor fiscal conservatism but liberal social views, and those who understand that humans will need to use reason and intelligence to solve problems of climate change, energy, genocide, poverty, etc. No one is coming from on high to deliver us. We will need to do it ourselves.

Hector from Canada   November 15th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

It is very good to hear Governor Schwarzenegger to express himself about this appointment. For me was very dissapointing to hear the Governor, at a raly for McCain, to make jokes about President elect Obama. For me it was like to hear a teen in a school yard. That was the job of Governor Palin, who lost the respect of all Americans with her speechs. Now is time for reconciliation not confrontation.

Ms Ajaye   November 15th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Why would anyone want to hear anything Arnold Schwarzenegger has
to say concerning President-Elect Obama's choices. The way he joined John McCain on the trail and criticized this man. Tell him to go away and help put out the fires in California.

Arnold, the Republican Party is, at the present time, ridding itself of wishy-washy pols such as yourself.

The game is changing, sir. I recommend that you take the first train out of the GOP at the first opportunity.

You can form the line right behind Bush, and McCain.

Sally   November 15th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

Hang on a minute – Arnie is a REPUBLICAN Governor, married to a Kennedy (Dem), & spouts his support for the Dem party? Does this not worry the GOP? Still, I guess if there's some doubt over Obama's birth place, then Arnie could be in the running in 2012. The confusion is, where do his loyalties lie? Which party will he run for? Still, he's right about Hillary being the right one for Sec of State (even tho she REALLY should be President elect.)

former gop   November 15th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

joni   November 15th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

As stated above "Clinton would not comment on the speculation Friday." Of course she won't comment, she wouldn't comment when asked 3 years ago if she was going to run for President, and then she did!!! She is a lawyer, who knows how to NOT answer questions! If Hillary is on Obama's staff, then we will have Bill back again…….. do we want another Clinton administration? I think NOT.
We already had 8 years of the Clintons and 8 years of Bush…

Dolly Adams   November 15th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

I think Bill Richardson would be the better choice. Gov. Richardson has the temperament, experience and is more in line with President Elect Obama's views on diplomacy and political change in general. He would also be loyal to Obama because he holds and admires Obama's values and sense of humanity. It took tremendous courage for Gov. Richardson to endorse Obama when he did, bucking the Clinton political machine and holding his own counsel.

I disagree that Senator Clinton has the tremendous experience that people are lauding. I strongly disagree that she would be the better choice because her ideas and strategies are not inline with Obama's views on diplomacy. She does not represent the change that is needed. Bill Clinton would also present an unwelcome and unnecessary challenge for the Obama administration.

Obama will be making a huge mistake, to add Hillary on his cabinet, after all the negative things she said about him during her campaign! Why would he want her on there? This will not be the CHANGE he talked about, it will be the same old Bill/Hillary crap we already had for 8 years… come on……….. Mr. Obama…. you said "Change", please pick new, fresh thinking people on your cabinet and give us all a break and a new start in this crisis our country is in!!!

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is too funny to deal with…and he is one of the most modern republicans you can work with.

Matt   November 15th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

There have been a lot of people who have opposed this, claiming this doesn't represent 'Change.' 'Change,' at it's operative level, means not operating the way this current administration has, choosing figures for important positions based on personal and political loyalty rather than competence or qualification.

I respectfully submit that placing someone as intelligent and as shrewd as Senator Clinton DOES represent some level of change, in that we know that the best interests of the United States will be represented in our foreign relations. I prefer my president select his cabinet among those who are the best and brightest this nation has to offer, and regardless of her 'negatives,' Hillary is among those best and brightest.

Plus, she's a potential challenge in 2012….."Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

You know what Arnold? I think before you suggest anything to President Elect Obama you apologize to him for those terrible remarks you made about him making fun of his skinny arms and legs and hinting that he is a girly man. How could you do that? It's one thing to criticize someone's policies, but another to mock their body parts or their looks. Perhaps that's a guy thing, or an Austrian thing, and even if Barack Obama lets it slide, it reflects on you. No wonder Maria goes around the house with a life-size cut out of Obama! You are very lucky she has put up with you all this time, and I hope that President Elect Obama will find some place for some of the Kennedys in his team, and who knows, perhaps he will find something for Maria to do!

Schwarzenegger, while I'm a new Democrat this year and dislike you saying bad things about Obama and supporting McCain. Good luck Mr Governator.

I believe Arnold and his Republican friends would love to see Sen. Clinton taken out of the Senate. We need every Democrat we have in the Senate and House, especially someone as capable and Sen. Clinton. Taking her out of the Senate would be a major loss to Democratic efforts to repair the damage the past 8 years have done. However, if asked to serve, I'm certain she will help the new President and the nation to the best of her abilities.

Can we even value his opinion? The fact is: California is no better off now than it was when Gray Davis was governor. The other fact is: Southern California is on fire! With all due respect, governor, I don't think now is the time to be sitting around discussing Hillary Clinton's future!

ABG   November 15th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Thanks Arnold!

As one of the 18,000,000 who supported Hillary Clinton, I hope President-elect Obama did not invite Hillary to Chicago and then offers the job to Gov. Richardson.

I am not sure why his transition staff would leak enough information to now turn this into a competition between Hillary and Richardson.

How was that creating a win-win for everyone?

I wouldn't worry about Obama becoming "partners" with people, he needs to be liked too much which is why he spent his campaign ingratiating every racial, ethic and other group on earth. It's also why he's taking the Abe Lincoln model and looking for rivals to fill posts – because he needs to be liked. Boy is he in for a surpise.

CMJ   November 15th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

I wish more Republicans were as reasonable as Schwarzenegger. There is too much at stake to play politics, we really need some good will from Republicans towards the Democrats. Dems backed Bush on tons of his endeavors (Iraq, funding for the war, etc.)…its time for Republicans to work WITH the Dems, not against them every step of the way. We have a country to fix.

And his opinion matters why? He can't even run his own State and CNN makes his opinion a newsworthy story? Arnold has spent his life in a fantasy world of bodybuilding and movies.

I'd have more respect for his wife's opinion. Maria Shriver has lived and experienced the real world of politics through her family history and her own dedication to community service.

Hillary would be a valid choice but in terms of contribution to creating change that helps the American people most – I still think we need her in the Senate. She and Ted Kennedy can actually get a real heathcare plan enacted through leadership in the Senate. That is a far nobler task and contribution than the Cabinet post of Secretary of State.

Hillary is capable of many things but I think we need her leadership in the Senate to get real solutions enacted to benefit the American people. I know she can make a real and important difference in that role.

No change here–however, I feel a little safer with the Clintons in charge.

Frank   November 15th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

First off he is not a Republican by any means

Second who cares who Obama picks as this is all such a joke

Change? Yeah, now his "Hope" and "Change" truths are coming out, as his "change" is only his so called change from George Bush who will be vindicated over time as was Truman for having courage to stand up to the lefties, and Change to a black president who no one has the guts yet to criticize and in a so called wishful colorblind society blacks voted 95% and better for him and Whites voted by a larger percentage than they did for Kerry many because he was black and they wanted to prove they were not racist!

Could you imagine if whites had voted for McCain because he was white and then he had won? Blacks would riot as they always do when they dont get their way

I can only hope now that this will do away with all of the unfair advantages on civil service and even SAT's that blacks get just for being black

Who cares what he thinks…………….

Obama wants Hillary in the Cabinet or adminsitration as then she cannot criticize an administration she is part of.

Hillary would rather be in the Senate, where she can take pot-shots at Obama, derail his plans, and position herself for a 2012 run.

And Schwarzwnegger? Who the "F" cares what he thinks about anything?

Did you expect Arnold to say something negative? Arnold is a smart man. He doesn't want to be be banished again to the dog house by Maria.

I don't really care what Schwarzenegger thinks, after his ridiculous antics on the campaign trail with McCain, his thoughts are irrelevant.
He needs to worry about being Gov…..who knows how long he will remain in that position after his stupid remarks he made when he was with McCain….he may find himself getting booted off!!
Thank heaven his wife has more sense.
