Schwarzenegger backs Clinton for State job

Schwarzenegger likes the idea of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.
Schwarzenegger likes the idea of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

(CNN) – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger weighed in on the possibility of Hillary Clinton becoming President-elect Barack Obama's Secretary State, praising the potential choice as a "great move."

"I think she is a very very bright woman and very experienced. I think this could be a great move," Schwarzenegger told ABC's George Stephanopoulos in an interview set to air Sunday.

But Schwarzenegger, a Republican, also suggested Obama must be sure he can work with his former primary rival before he officially offers her the position.

"When it comes to those kinds of positions, what is equally as important, and I know with my cabinet, what is equally as important as who is qualified, is who can you work with. Who can you sit down with and really get in there and start becoming a partner [with], that sees things the way you see it," he said.

"And also that you maybe want to learn from that person and admire that person so much that you want to pick up some pointers and learn from that person, so that they together can go out and do this," Schwarzenegger also said.

Sources told CNN Friday Obama met with Clinton in Chicago Thursday to gauge the New York senator's interest in the top diplomatic post. Sources also told CNN Obama is considering New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson for the position.

Clinton would not comment on the speculation Friday.

As a proud Obama supporter, I am ecstatic that he and Biden won the election. I am relieved that Palin will not be anywhere near the White House for at least 8 years. However, if the GOP is looking for relevance and leadership they could not do any better than Arnold. I would not have any problem voting for him quite honestly though I know that he cannot be president since he was not born a citizen but was naturalized. He does not argue with reason and science (global warming, etc) nor does he feel what other people do with their sex lives is anyone's business but their own. If the GOP would move in this direction they would be a formidable opponent. They would certainly lose their right wing, delusional, Left Behind, religious base but they might gain significantly in those who favor fiscal conservatism but liberal social views, and those who understand that humans will need to use reason and intelligence to solve problems of climate change, energy, genocide, poverty, etc. No one is coming from on high to deliver us. We will need to do it ourselves.

Bush you said free trade is good and that you don't want any regulation put on it, because it hurts free trade. What is it going to take for you to wake up and pull your head out of the sand. Free trade is a good thing, but not without regulation and oversight. What about lead paint found in childrens toys imported from overseas. Lead is a poison, the kids play with the toys put them in there mouths then swallow the lead. What about the contaminated milk products imported which is contaminated and killing people not just overseas but in the U.S. as well. What about all the jobs being sent overseas, thus making the economy unstable. I bought a Dell Pc and I have to talk to a person over in India, which I have a hard time understanding due to there heavy accent.

Someone had posted on another blog that the Democrats are spewing hate and that the Democrats should be renamed KKK. Excuse me but the hate and division all started with Palin at all her rally's, did anyone ever see someone at an Obama rally caring a monkey with an Obama sticker. I could go on, but I choose not to. So republicans stand up for once and admit that Palin was/is a domestic terrorist with all her scare tactics about who Obama was, up to a week ago Palin was still talking about Ayer's.

So the republicans need a desperate face lift with not only getting rid of bush, but also by not letting Palin ever back into the spotlight again. A good majority of the republican party did not even vote this year according to CNN, I wonder why that was. Was it because they themselves did not like Palin and found her not qualified to fill the shoes of McCain should the need arise. The Gallup Poll says according to all americans polled who don't want to see palin as a major national political figure 45 yes 52 no. Republicans couldn't bring themselves to vote this year, but they could not bring themselves to vote for obama. Another poll shows that 70% americans believe that Obama will help the economy. Except of course the hate inspiring Limbaugh.

The Repubs are really coming out of the woodwork to give advice to our president-elect... How generous! I'm sure there aren't any possible ulterior motives at play, no chance!

I agree with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger!

Hillary is Obama's best choice – especially when you look at the alternatives!

Say yes Hillary – for the sake of the USA and our global community! :)

I have thought for a very long time that HIlary would be best at Secretary of State because she is so smart and is well liked by the people in other countries. She would shine.

Will the GOP kindly revoke Arnold's republican card? This guy has thrown more support to the leftist agenda than Barney Frank. Gays, Clintons, and amnesty are NOT on the GOP top 10 favorites.. You heard it here first (from a republican), THROW THE BUM OUT!

Arnold is a true Democrat (another reason I like him) – he had to chose the republican party due to the circumstances at the time he was elected governor of California.
Anyway, he needs to switch party's and show the world he's a Democrat.

"She is a very bright woman".

Er, Arnie, your old-world sexism is peeking out again. She's so good, you wouldn't grope her.

No matter. I personally don't think Hillary is a good fit for Secretary of State. She's a legal wheeler-dealer with sharp teeth, better suited for Attorney General. Just my opinion.

Arnold needs to worry about the California budget and the wildfires that are raging. He has enough to worry about without getting in other people's business.

Schwarzenegger is one of the few Republicans left on the face of the earth who thinks with a rational mind.

He must be lonely because of that...

Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State is a very wise first choice for Obama. Hillary Clinton is smart, an excellent negotiator, strong, resilient, knowledgable and experienced in world affairs and most certainly knows how to talk intelligently on matters of State. Let's hope Senator Clinton accepts the Secretary of State...we need a strong American like her to represent us in world affairs.

Please let's not continue the Wilsonianism that we've had since 1988, which Hillary would probably continue. I voted for Obama because I want a change in direction in our foreign policy. America as global policeman didn't start under George W. Bush, it goes back to the end of the Cold War and includes Democrats as well as Republicans. Kerry, anybody but Hillary Clinton.
