Clinton still millions in debt

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - A source tells CNN that Barack Obama's presidential campaign raised $800,000 to help pay down Senator Hillary Clinton's debt from her bid for Democratic presidential nomination.

An aide to Clinton says that the Senator from New York has $7.6 million in debt remaining from her primary campaign. Clinton was over $20 million in the red after she gave up her campaign and endorsed Obama following the end of the primary season in early June. About half of that figure was money she owed herself after loaning her own campaign over $12 million dollars.

An aide to the president-elect says that the Obama campaign will disclose how much money they have left over from their run for the White House when the campaign files a financial report with the Federal Election Commission on December 4.

  1. PLEASE go away Hill

Hillary Clinton made her bed, now she should sleep in it. She is simply facing the financial disaster she created and the defeat that she earned. She deserves nothing more. She's not owed anything more. Her attitude of entitlement is sickening.

if Obama has contributed only 800k to her debt and she was over 20 million and now less than a third remaining in 6 months???

I would say she is pretty good at budgeting…
    Just was not her time.

Are you kidding me? She shouldn't have gotten $20 mil in debt in the first place! I wouldn't trust her to run a lemon-aid stand!

So, instead of being worth $100 million, she is only worth $93 million?

Let's hope she does better with the State Department budget than she did with her campaign budget.

Hey everyone don't worry about the Clintons they will be just fine. They
still have the power that they have always had. Remember Hillary would be our President if they had actually counted Florida and Michigan in the primary. still think it is funny that all the fuss was about penalizing the two state and the DNC actually gave them their full vote at the convention. I am happy about Obama's choices and feel that he understands what is needed to bring this country together. Obama is right to understand that he needs to embrace a sucessful democratic Pres and his genious wife.

Obama did not get caught in the drama of the media or the far left and has signaled that he does not want to fight and attack. Everyone who thought that Obama was not going to move to the center will be disappointed but I AM so happy that he is trying to bring balance to are planet. I am beginning to believe THAT WE CAN.

Who cares really? As much as people wanted her out of the race they refuse to leave her alone. Always talking about her. I really do not care how much debt she has. She was money and so does bill, what about my debt! CNN focus on the issues not someones campaign debt!

I am always astonished at the propensity of some Americans to spend way beyond their means. I mean what was she thinking when her campaign got into a debt of $20M. If she had won, does that mean that her victory would have earned her the $20M and maybe more to repay the debt. If thats the case, isnt that corruption ?

Please guys...tell them to make a transfer payment from Savings to checking account online to take care of their dept. They're multi millionaires who decided to take the chance instead of stopping the campaign after North Carolina and Indiana.

I thought Obama believes in "spreading the wealth." Why spend $2M on a party when the "needy" still need help?

I am only going to say this once. Obama was appointed as the nominee he didn't WIN the nomination.

Now with that said, in order for Hillary not to contest and take it to the convention floor he was supposed to help her pay down her debt.

However, when you look at the Clinton's net worth, this is really a non-story that the media keeps pushing. At the end of the day the Clinton's will write a check and pay off the debt.

Stop all of the Hillary hating. The election is OVER and you drones got the president you wanted so let it go already.

The problem with the English language, and the spelling related to it, has gone the way of the dinosaurs because of computers and text messaging. The younger generation have no problem with this and all we do is give away our age when we find fault with it It is the wave of the future. The schools no longer teach writing skills because of computer use and children are taught to read phonetically. I guess we older folks just have to adjust.

Campaign finance reform! Money should not dictate who leads our nation. I commend Sen. Clinton for her efforts during the primary season. We should not elect a candidiate merely because they can out spend (although that usually does happen...part of the reason incumbents often win) and we should not shut out a viable candidiate because they can't raise insane amounts of money.
With that said, Obama should have done more to help Clinton with her campaign debts. He attended a joint event with her after the primaries (where she urged her supporters to help him) and he forgot to urge his to help relieve her debt. She showed incredible grace and selflessness in embracing his nomination at the close of the primaries and she went to bat for him in the general election. She was a great campaigner for him.
Obama should have done more for her to help relieve the debt (as is customary for the winner to do for his competitors in such contests). This is particular so in light of the disgusting amounts of money Obama raised and spent in the campaign.

We as americans need to focus more on the overall economic issue that we are facing in the nation. We could care a whole hell of a lot less than debts that politicians accured. Can we please focus on the change of administration. I'm ready for Barack Obama to Lead the free world and get us out of this nonsense that america is in. If Hilary is hurting that bad financially, Then create a Hilary bailout plan... lol!

Since Hillary Clinton has supplied so much chatter over the years to your network and others, (meaning job security to y all` ) seems to me all of you tv personalities would pony up a couple bucks each to pay off her debt ....
What`s a couple bucks to you of the "elite media "....... Seeing as you`re so concerned about her debt . I guess her celebrity is drawing more attention than our continuing financial crisis.......
