Bill Clinton is campaigning in Georgia Wednesday.

(CNN) – Jim Martin gets some major league help today in his runoff election battle against freshman Republican senator from Georgia, Saxby Chambliss.  And the surrogate stumping with Martin today is Bill Clinton - about as big a name as you can get.

The former President will join Martin, a former Democratic Georgia state lawmaker, at a campaign event in Atlanta.

Martin and Chambliss face off in the runoff election on December 2 for the U.S. Senate seat Chambliss won six years ago. Chambliss won a plurality of the vote two weeks ago on Election Day, but Georgia state law calls for the winner to grab 50 percent plus one vote. Due to the inclusion of a third party candidate, Chambliss fell just shy of that threshold, forcing a runoff contest.

Former President Clinton is the first big name Democrat to campaign in person with Martin, although President-elect Obama has sent resources and workers from his presidential campaign to Georgia to help out. Clinton carried Georgia in 1992 in his first presidential election victory. He won re-election as President in 1996 but lost Georgia that year.

Today's campaign event is scheduled to be held at Clark Atlanta University

Chambliss is getting plenty of big name visitors. Last week Sen. John McCain returned to the trail to campaign with Chambliss, just nine days after losing the presidential election to Obama. On Sunday, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination before dropping out in March and backing McCain, campaigned with Chambliss. And on this Friday, Mitt Romney will campaign with Chambliss in Atlanta and Savannah.

A spokesman for Romney also announced that Romney is contributing $5,000, through his Free and Strong American PAC, to Chambliss to help with the runoff election. Romney's PAC donated $2,300 to Chambliss earlier this fall.

Like Huckabee, Romney was a candidate for the GOP presidential nomination before dropping out in February and endorsing McCain. Both Romney and Huckabee could have designs on making another run for the White House.

President Bush after 8 years ruined everything Clinton set up and now our Economy is in shambles and not to mention he lied to put us into an Endless war.

I hope we can win another seat. This Bill Clinton dislike is stupid all because he had an affair during the white house. He gave us prosperity for 8 years. This is what it is like to have a good president. We actually get to see him campaign for other democratic candidates I could never be tired of a great president like Bill Clinton.

Your right it was republican majority and I'll give credit but also give credit to Bill Clinton for working with Republicans to get things done unlike Bush who only started to threaten vetos when the Democrats came back in 2006.

Also just because Obama gets a few former lobbyists and Clinton staff in the white house. It does mean its going to be Bush 2.0 or even the return of Clinton. Which would not be a bad thing mind you but I'm sure he will run things much differently and better. Stop demonizing the guy hes has not even got into the white house and your already bashing the guy.

Jackie in Dallas   November 19th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Wow, what invective - on both sides. Too bad most of it had nothing to do with the story.

I'd like to see Chambliss suffer the same fate as his "supporters" McCain, Romney, and Huckabee. I have friends in Georgia who would like to see it, too. One got hit by a car that had a Chambliss bumper sticker on it, while my friend had a "Go Green" t-shirt on. Interesting, that. But Republicans are like kudzu, you can cut them back and they'll just grow to take over another state. You have to dig them out and distroy the roots before you can get rid of them.

Gore never wanted Clinton to campaign for him, that's why? Were you even around in 2000?

My kids grew up in Australia, married there, have families.

If you disagree about "socialism," those countries that practice it, like Australia, Canada, Scandinavian countries, and others, or some form of "socialism," are in better shape than we are.

My girls and their families ALL get good health care whether or not they are working, disabled, rich or poor.

So what in heck is wrong with that?

Capitalism is doing very well now, is it?

Michael   November 19th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

You guys are so stupid. Obama IS making Change. Not the "new faces" change (which is good), but the "Experienced and qualified" change. I hate reading all of your stupid bullcrap against his change. If he picked people we never even heard of, then this country would be screwed. Bill Clinton was a great president, and that's whats going to make Georgia blue.

Also: we have 58 seats now, thanks to Alaska. Suck on that Falin'.

Diane   November 19th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

It is sad to see folks trash talking our former President just because they are frustrated that the failings of the Bush crowd and the ridiculous VP choice of McCain have sent them into the wilderness for a while. We had an 8 year period of peace and prosperity while Bill Clinton was our President. We had a SURPLUS, high employment, lower numbers of poor, etc. As to President Clinton's personal relationships, the Presidential biographers believe that only 1 president since WW2 has NOT had "affairs" while in the White House! We can all wonder who that was, but let's face it, evidently, it's a pretty common situation. I sympathize with the Republicans – it's not a good feeling to be on the losing end, but at least you are able to know that Senator Obama actually DID win, unlike the case of the Y2K shenanigans. Imagine what it was like for the rest of us to know that Bush had been SElected by the Court's Republican appointees instead of Elected by the voters? You folks chose poorly with Bush. Whether by true primary votes or by more "shenanigans" as is widely believed, Bush got to be your candidate, and he and Cheyney have done more to damage this country than any other leader, including Nixon. I am sure none of you hoped for that outcome, but that is what happened. Let's give President Obama a chance, ALL of us, and see what happens. It would be great to have another period of good times, with employment, a good stock market and good health care for all. Relax, the circle turns and leaders change, Just try to remember how you feel now when it's your turn to win again, and show a little consideration to the losers of that race!

Kay   November 19th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

Now, change was not about people but about attitudes, thoughts, ways of doing things, etc. Even if the Clintonistas came back with an attitude befitting the situation now, THAT WILL STILL BE CHANGE.
People get it, if anyone wants to strictly refer to change when it comes to people, everyone over the age of 8 years is the same old thing......get it?

Simply amazed that so many know so much about what the next administration will do and how it will do it. Did they have the same quality insights 8 years ago? If not, why should we believe them now. If so and they still support Bush, why should we listen?

No Hillary = No Obama   November 19th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

The Clinton's are the underpinnings of the Democratic party – like it or not, like them or not. Obama is stacking his cabinet with Clinton veterans because Obama doesn't know what he is doing and needs to build some sort of foundation under him. This is what happens when you elect an inexperienced wannabe to the Presidency.

Charles Atlanta   November 19th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Bill can give it a try. Georgia is pretty much red state. Republicans still hate Clinton because he brought the prosperity to American people. 90's boom is not fake – think about people without celleular phones, Internet today. These are all 90's products. Clinton rided the wave of new technology revolution and Bush didn't.

Tex Ann ~~~~~~~   November 19th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

All you people griping about Obama picking former Clinton staffers and/or others who have prior service in Washington-- would you rather he picked someone who has NO experience whatsoever?? Think about it, if you were interviewing 5 people for a job (any job), would you hire someone "with experience" or someone who doesn't have a clue what the job is even about???

There HAS to be some continuity in the transition folks.

Ryan, Son of Niall   November 19th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Republican sour-grapers – he's your president too. Suck it up and try to stop sniveling. For those who are about deep religious values, give me a break, it's a secular government – it is written into our Constitution to have a separation of Church and State. Worship as you wish, I encourage you. That's what America is about. But don't try to turn our democracy into a theocracy, or a oligarchy of total redneck idiots either.

Obama is not anti-religious at all, but he is committed to leadership like we haven't seen in 8 years: the Constitutional kind.

To me, an independent Constitutional Issues voter, that's the kind of change Obama brings – change back to the way it was intended – change back to the way my ancestors have fought and bled and died for since we arrived here in 1750.

Bosun   November 19th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

Chambliss deserves to lose, with the kind of campaign he ran against vet Max Cleland. The Republicans disparaged and humiliate vetererans when it is very convenient for them yet, they shout country first, and all hail to vets, for serving the country when their guy is running. The Bush campaign used the same tactics against John Kerry forgetting that while kerry was fighting for and defending the country the current occupant of the white house was visiting the dentist.

alice c   November 19th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

HEY YOU SAYING OBAMA IS PICKING ALL FORMER CLINTON PEOPLE FOR HIS STAFF, REMEMBER, THIS COUNTRY WAS IN GREAT SHAPE DURING THE CLINTON ERA YOU IDIOT! WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE JOE THE PLUMBER AND THAT WOMAN FROM ALASKA AND HER FIRST DUDE? IF YOU COULD YOU PROBABLY WOULD WANT MORE OF THE SAME OF THE LAST 8 YEARS.

Jaye   November 19th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Obama shouldn't go to Georgia to campaign for anybody...he has enough on his plate. Let Clinton, Gore, and some of the other popular democrats go do their democratic duty.

What's wrong with bringing back 1990's prosperity?   November 19th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

I recall prosperous times during the Clinton administration. While I'm not saying the Obama administration should consist solely of Clinton staffers, having them on board DOES represent change from the mess we've had for the past 8 years. The Clinton bashers can quit acting like they're upset – they're already ecstatic about the chance to start up again with their hypocritical attacks.

Chip   November 19th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

@Daniel :
One can only hope. I, for one, have had about enough of religion hindering our progress as a society.

Yes, it did such terrible things as starting all of the Ivy League schools.

What progress has it hindered? Letting gays marry? Trying to stop people from 'fixing' their irresponsible actions by disposing of an unwanted baby?

Stem cell research hasn't suffered because of religion, it goes on. The only objection there was toward using federal funds to extract those cells from unwanted blobs of tissue.

A religious man was president when slavery was abolished, a religious man led the civil rights movement (Rev. Martin Luther King, remember him?).

Keep your bigotry to yourself, since this is a safe forum to bash religion you feel comfortable doing it. A sad day indeed.

Chambliss is one of the worst perpetraters of "fear and smear." His sliming of Max Cleland was one of the most dispicable political acts in recent memory. Hopefully Clinton can help defeat him and put a fitting end to that sorry era. By the way, Clinton wasn't impeached; he was lynched by a Republican mob, many of whom have now been removed from office. Justice is slow sometimes but happens.

The longer you let it hang out the more fuel you give to the Clinton haters!!

I am not sure what they hated the peace or the property they brought. It is amazing how they are treated same on the American people.

That is the problem in this country we have no respect for anyone. I am not a big Bush lover however he is the president ... and we need to have respect after all the people voted for him twice...

There sure are a lot of scared conservatives out there. Funny they didn't say a thing the last 8 years. Considering the path the Bush administration has set us on and the way the Republican controlled House ans Senate rubber stamped everything he wanted for 6 years, you'd think thes "fiscal conservatives" would be ready for change too.
Have any of you looked hard in the mirror and seen what YOUR party has done?
I guess you're just blinded by the spectre of "socialism"..... Dumb-dumbs.... Nobody is going to take away your guns, the majority of us will get a reduction of our taxes and the prosperity and place in the world will be restored. SCARY, isn't it?

Don't forget that republicans ran congress for 6 of the 8 years Clinton was in office. Shouldn't they get some of that credit too or are you going to play the double standard card you libs play so well? All I'm saying is that if you give credit to Clinton (which I do) for all the good economic things that happened in the 90's, you must also recognize the republican controlled congress as well.

One can tell what current 'Liberal-think' is/is not: These people have no idea what a rotten nation this could be when the government controls everything and all people are considered as a collective unit. The American spirit will die, the spirit that brought us to the greatness we are now enjoying. It is American spirit that allows the day-to-day person to criticize freely our government and bring about change. There is no government on this earth that can do everything right all the time.

Alan   November 19th, 2008 11:36 am ET

If the Democrats gain a fillibuster-proof super-majority in the Senate, it won't be due to any "socialist plot" as idiots like Rush Limburger and Shawn Hangitup are spewing. It will be a total REJECTION of the Republican party's long-overdue overthrow.

I can't believe I'm seeing Republicans on here telling us that it will take years to "correct" the "damage" that's going to be done by just one Obama term when we're saying goodbye to THEIR team that has left our country in shambles that could take DECADES to clean up.

Please - get over it. You can't rape and pillage an entire nation and the world the way your party has done these past eight years and not pay the price of losing ALL power to an angry people.

There is still a vote. We are still majority rules. You are now the minority. Learn to live with it.

truthsayer   November 19th, 2008 11:17 am ET

It will be a great day for this country when Republican smear and fear politics are no longer credible. The GOP as we know it is dead and good riddance.

Jay   November 19th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Seems to me all the libs here want is the super-majority, filibuster proof Senate. All this gets you is the off ramp to socialism. Many of you claim to be educated, but have you learned anything. A close inspection of the people Obama surrounds himself with presently and formerly indicate nothing but a hard turn left. The centrist in this equation is Hillary, can you believe it. I am not talking about Revs. Wright and Flueger, or Ayers, but policy makers. Godd luck with that. It will take 10-15 years to corrct one term of an Obama president.

John ( NY City )   November 19th, 2008 11:16 am ET

I don't know either Senator, but I don't agree that any party should have so much power.

Be careful what you wish for...

Doug R.   November 19th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Under Bill Clinton, gasoline was $2/ gallon, millions of more people were gainfully employed, millions more people had health care, we had budget surpluses, the stock market was higher, our homes were worth more, we all had more $$ in our 401k's and savings accounts,...the list goes on and on and on.
I was at the mall last evening and the stores was 90% empty. There was no holiday music playing. It was strange.
You can thank George Bush and the Republican party for where we are today.

Joe Green   November 19th, 2008 11:16 am ET

The Ayman al-Zawahiri video is a FAKE!

CNN you are being pranked.

Real Muslims would have no use for fake American Black "Muslims" like Malcom X or whatever. Nor would they say "May Allah have mercy on his soul" if they respected Malcom X (that is a phrase reserved for someone who as OFFENDED Allah).

And the term "House Negro" (or "house slave") would never occur to an Arab Muslim.

Some prankster is having fun with you, CNN!

Geez, be skeptical! The MSM is so full of shiite!

Brooke in PA   November 19th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Tim, I didn't know that dodging imaginary Bosnian sniper bullets made someone a diplomat.

Patricio   November 19th, 2008 11:14 am ET

It is imperative that we elect Chambliss! We have to stop this socialistic society that we have created by electing Obama. If the democrats have 60 votes in the senate there will be no one to stop their 'spread the wealth', 'don't work – its Ok, we will take care of you mentality. Everything this country was built upon and stands for is in jeapordy. Our deep religious moral values will be sistematically lessened in this horrible administration!!!

Ruby   November 19th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Like the company you work with, the employees get to move around within the company and get promoted. You know their qualification.

Would you rather see Obama interview the people for 15 mins and hire those people to handle the Job. This was what Mccain did to Palin and it did not work.

Rej Braun   November 19th, 2008 11:13 am ET

If anyone can help get Mr. Martin to beat Chambliss, President Bill Clinton can. The man is the most inspiring speaker of our modern times.

No Real Change   November 19th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Obama shows sign of no real changes, to old old Washington's way of doing business, but lack of experience or qualification as a commader-in-chief, in a dangerous world. Is it no self-confidence, or inferiorty complex? It is the old Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton's policy in foreign policy, leading the event of 9/11, 2001. We may have to wait for Obama's promises, of prosperity, spreading the wealth, and how to pay for all the big spending and well-fare system, in two or four years. He is sticking to the Clintons, and Colin Powell, and the like. Yawn!

Proud to be American   November 19th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Come on Bill yes we can get the magic 60 seats then we can make change we all can believe in ..... All together now ....YES WE CAN!

Franky   November 19th, 2008 11:10 am ET

"Al-Zawahiri can be heard saying, "In you and in Colin Powell, [Condoleezza] Rice and your likes, the words of Malcolm X (may Allah have mercy on him) concerning 'house Negroes' are confirmed."

I gotta say, I don't know if its me but doesn't it look like people don't know how to talk to a black person? I swear, I haven't seen a black person being this scrutinized since I was reading books on the early 16th or 17th century...and they were crazy back then! LOL!! Whether is someone in the South questioning his religion or a Catholic priest to "repent" our sins if we voted for him. I just never thought that there was a limit in how we view things and in my opinion, there's no question is about race...

I have to say, to come and think about it, I guess being the first African-American President comes at a price. Sean Hannity believes my boy is the "Incredible Hulk", while at the same time, it seems to me that materialism still exists today and quite frankly, hasn't changed a bit...

Charm   November 19th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Good for Bill. He was a brilliant President for the US and he continues to be a brilliant working for so many worthy causes. I hope he can help Martin in this runoff.

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   November 19th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Don't worry about what the media (in particular) says about Obama picking Clinton people for his cabinet.

The media, including CNN, says "critics" and "observers" are complaining about this, but they don't say who the "critics" are, except one name is Leslie Sanchez, a CNN contributor (and a Republican). And Robert Kuttner, a liberal, has apparently coined the term "Clintonistas," referring to people who worked in the Clinton administration.

My BEST years were when Clinton was president, and I know I speak for many people who made more money during those years and who lived in relative peace, particularly sans a war we shouldn't have been involved in.

It is real easy for the media to post critical "stuff" when they can avoid the names of real people who are being critical.

GaVoter   November 19th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Southerns have had enough of this finger waging liars. In fact, we had high hopes for the change Obama had promised to bring to Washington. But now, with the numerous ex-Clintonian appointments to his cabinet.., Obamainia looks more and more like Clinton lite.

Dexter Skagway   November 19th, 2008 11:05 am ET

And suddenly everyone is redefining change to mean "not Bush." Bait and switch. The old ways and old parties are not working, Obama. The needed change is not a change backwards to a copy of the Clinton years, including the Clintons and their cronys.

RJN   November 19th, 2008 11:02 am ET

What you people don't understand is any time Bill can be away from Hillary he is going to take it.
He can't wait and will do anything for Hillary to become Sec of State, she will be in a foreign land and the new interns will be coming to Washington. Bill can't wait to introduce them to politics.

Ellen   November 19th, 2008 11:01 am ET

Of course Clinton would campaign for Martin. With the picks that have been announced it is obvious the country is about to begin the 3rd term of a Clinton administration. Not at least I can tell my daughter I was correct by not casting a vote for either canidate. I did not want four more years of either Bush or Clinton It is very difficult to believe that in our vast country the only experts to be found are from the previous Clinton administration.

Junius   November 19th, 2008 10:58 am ET

CNN in a previous article you all wrote:

"House Negroes" is the English translation of the Arabic term "house slaves."

No the translation is house slaves, you had it right there in the article. That is unbelievably offensive that you had to go back and use such offensive american language. these guys know that slaves are not exclusively black, so dont be stupider than these terrorists by taking their propoganda a step further. Inexcusable!!

Helen, GA   November 19th, 2008 10:57 am ET

I have voted yesterday for Saxby. He is our senator and he will keep his senate port. We do not need outsiders to select our senator. Jim Martin is a loser and so also Bill Clinton. I wanted to see if Chuck Schumer is coming here because he is spending lots of money in the current economy for these ads in support of Jim Martin. We do not need Jim Martin. get lost.

jake747   November 19th, 2008 10:52 am ET

I'd love to see Chambliss dumped, but I don't like Martin's chances. Chambliss got more of the vote in the first round, and the 3rd Party candidate was libertarian, so more of those voters will probably go Chambliss (though given Republicans lack of care for social freedoms, maybe there's a chance they'll split).

"susceptible?" To what? A change from the fascist-leaning Bush and Cheney, the people who have lied and manipulated facts, and should be in prison? If that is what I am susceptible to, sign me up! It's so amazing that people still support what has been happening to this country, and are so afraid of Barack Obama, a truly peaceful, educated, intelligent man. Is that so foreign to Republicans? Do you think the only person capable of running the country is the guy or gal who speaks down home and you can see hanging out in a bar with? And how well did THAT work out? If our leaders are not smarter than we are, we have a problem.

rachel   November 19th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Bill should just say screw the democrats the way they question his motive him and his wife's character and claim they only bring drama. Bill and Hillary chill on the beach and stop helping people don't appreciate you. Obama is the new adorable baby, well untill he starts stinking making poo all over the place and then the democarts will want Hillary and Bill to help come change the diapers and make him smell good again.

Mark 10:22:

Clinton benefitted from a great economy – the economy didn't benefit from Clinton. Presidents have little control over the economy as is currently being proven by the failures of the bailout which the fake Republican Bush proposed and Democrats pushed through. We need to stop the bailouts and put failure back into the hands of the people.

Sue in MI   November 19th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I love the Clinton haters on these boards, as well as the Obama skeptics bashing him before he even is sworn in. Since your party has done such a great job of trashing not only the Constitution, but the economic system, the military (losing 5000 or more of our lives, and countless innocent Iraqis and Afghans), our standing in the world, letting war criminals Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, and more run around encouraging more and more socialist and fascist agendas, we are really not paying attention to your snide comments about "change." "Change" will occur, if only in the tossing of the Republican so-called conservatives who will fight for one unborn life, but care nothing about anyone's health, retirement, and sons and daughters of all nationalities lost to illegal wars. Snipe all you want, but you can never, ever defend what you have left Obama to deal with.

Pat F   November 19th, 2008 10:40 am ET

@Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx, and the other people who are justifiably mad at Chambliss because of his 2002 attack on Max Cleland:

Look in the mirror, people. Your disgraceful attacks on McCain were just as bad. Calling him senile, doddering, drooling – ageist garbage like that! The Democrats won a battle, but lost their souls in the process.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   November 19th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Ya now that the Clintons WANT something, they're all over the place... funny how absent they were from the campaign trail after Bitter Shrillary lost.

Tom Eyemdaman   November 19th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Georgians need to come out and vote – put Chambliss back in office if nothing else but to keep some semblance of the checks and balances of our government.

Four or even two years of unopposed democratic rule is not what this country needs. Bipartisanship doesn't come through absolute power.

Democrats have successfully used fear of the economy to push the bailout and will continue to use fear to push socialistic policies down our throats – and all the while they will claim Republicans use fear to influence.

Maggie in NYS   November 19th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Scott, "CHANGE" means a democrat for president!

karen-phoenix   November 19th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Thank you President Clinton!!!! Get rid of Chambliss!!! What that man did to Max Cleland was disgusting and shows just how low the republican party will stoop!!! The rep party needs a complete overhaul–and this coming from a 40 year long republican who will NEVER vote rep again until they start getting honest and get someone with intellect and came up from the ranks of average Americans–NO more stupidity and NO more boys born with a silver spoon in their mouth!!!

KLEE   November 19th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Another "shot across the bow" of the GOP party. Pay attention – what do people really want now!

Change – Change from the last 8 years!! Change to thinking about the working folks in this country – don't worry – I know how the political thing works – we get help for awhile – then the ball changes courts – and the higher ups get help – kind of like breathing – In comes the good air – out goes the bad air.....its a metaphor for our crazy little lives on the little blue planet – watch the History Channel – you get some great insights there.

Virginia   November 19th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Boy, with friends like Bill, who needs enemies! I would not want him in my corner–he is the MOST shameless president we have ever had in my estimation. Him campaigning for the Dem in GA will certainly help Saxby Chambliss win.

ran   November 19th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Chambliss needs to go. He is an example of what is wrong with the Republicans and their style of politics. We need true change and those who are willing to work for the people not their greed/power hunger/simple minded ideologies.

bitter_in_pa   November 19th, 2008 10:34 am ET

GA for Obama   November 19th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Scott Tucson- It's sad you're a pathetic Repug.

Change means:
-changing our tone with each other
-change in policies
-change in attitude
-change in mentality
-change in manner of diversity
-change in bipartisanship form
-change in everyday dealings
-change in attitude of religion, gender, race, background, creed, hate crimes, hate, fear, negativity, in looks, in manners
etc.

Change is a broad term that defines what President Obama will do.

Chambliss will fail. Its good to watch the slow agony of the right wing facists grip on their Senate power come to an end.

joseph   November 19th, 2008 10:27 am ET

Even if Chambliss is very well known to be a racist, I wonder if the people will be comfortable with having the dems have full and total control of the legislature. It could be a very dicey situation. This could be a tough decision.

BC   November 19th, 2008 10:25 am ET

Let's not forget, it was John McCain who said this of Chambliss's behavior during his last campaign: "It's worse than disgraceful, it's reprehensible". Why is the GOP full of such total slimeballs these day?

Mark   November 19th, 2008 10:22 am ET

CHANGE means anything that Bush is not. It that includes former Clinton staffers then so be it. As I recall, the eight years under Clinton were the most prosperous in American history. Obama knows it and is smart to seek out that experience. Republican's are just PO'd they no longer have anything to say of any relevance.

There's something about kool-aid   November 19th, 2008 10:21 am ET

Saxby Chambliss's first campaign showed him to be complete slime, even by Repbulican standards. I'll be glad to see him gone.

Oh Yes We Did!   November 19th, 2008 10:16 am ET

I can't wait to see him!

SHELLI   November 19th, 2008 10:15 am ET

After all of his dirty dealing and smears of President-Elect Obama, he needs to open all of his books if he wants his wife to get the Secretary of State position, even though I don't think she should have it because of the dirty lies and dirty dealing and her siding with McCain saying that he was more qualified than President-Elect Obama and that she kept bringing up Rev. Wright and Ayers. She was supposed to be a Democrat and was acting totally like a Republican and maybe that's because she used to be a Republican in College before she met Bill. She is too on the fence for me and she cannot be trusted just like her husband...

Stacy from Loudoun County VA   November 19th, 2008 10:04 am ET

This runoff election in Georgia is a new Civil War being played out right before our eyes and the fate of a nation really hangs in the balance, come to think of it. Not a bullet will be fired, not a life will be lost, but this may have more implications than anything General Sherman could have dreamed of. If Chambliss wins, the Republicans hold the line in the Senate for two years and can at least have a leg to stand on until the next elections in two years. He loses, then the Democratic agenda really has no opposition and the Republicans really might as well stay home for two years. Voters in Georgia, it is lock and load y’all!

Barbara in NC   November 19th, 2008 9:56 am ET

Chambliss has spent so many years brain-washing Georgia residents that it's almost funny.

You tell 'em what's what, Bill.

Chris   November 19th, 2008 9:54 am ET

60 keeps getting closer every day...

Tim E   November 19th, 2008 9:51 am ET

Now is this an appropriate venue for the husband of a diplomat? Partisanship in small things jeopardizes her career; has he no shame?

Tom in Delaware   November 19th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Hey Bill...why don't you wait until after the 'Christian Holidays'.

Dixie AZ   November 19th, 2008 9:46 am ET

The morning news reports that we have a new cooperative Bill Clinton. He is opening the books on his business and charitable orgs and campaigning, too. Sic the Republicans, Bill.

mavericky   November 19th, 2008 9:43 am ET

I am tired of right wing nuts saying Obama supporters are uneducated. Why don't you look at the exit polls? Graduates and higher (meaning doctors, Ph.D, juris doctorates, etc.) voted for Obama. I have a Masters and I'm going on to my Ph.D.

Sorry that you feel you must put us down... poor GOP

ABG   November 19th, 2008 9:40 am ET

If Bill Clinton is considered "good enough" to campaign and help Democrats get elected, then he is "good enough" to be married to the next Secretary of State!

When Democrats call, Bill shows up!

Scott Tucson   November 19th, 2008 9:36 am ET

Bill it seems is the only one not chosen to be in Obama's administration but it's still early.

It's now funny to hear the Obama supporters trying to defend what 'CHANGE' is suppose to mean.

GA Independent   November 19th, 2008 9:36 am ET

Fabulous! Hopefully my fellow Georgians will see Chambliss for the waste of a Senator that he is and vote for Martin. Go Bill Go!

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   November 19th, 2008 9:30 am ET

I really don't like the tactics Chambliss used against Max Cleland in the 2002 election. Cleland, a triple amputee from Vietnam, was disparaged and "tied to Al Qaeda" in terms of not being patriotic. Huh? Not patriotic while he left three limbs in another country?
For that alone, I hope Chambliss loses. I'll be contacting my friends in Georgia, asking them to please go back to the polls to vote this guy out.

Seattle Sue   November 19th, 2008 9:30 am ET

Good, I hope Mr. Clinton can help Mr. Martin beat Chambliss, who ran a very dirty, rotten campaign against Max Cleland six years ago.

Purple Nurple   November 19th, 2008 9:25 am ET

By my count we only need two more for the 60 fillerbuster prof senate. That is awesome and I hope we get it.

Vijayashankar   November 19th, 2008 9:23 am ET

Good pointer! With due respect, if the candidate is so huge in terms of personality... Jim Martin could have run for President isnt it? Atleast for The US Senate.

Good Luck!

Marie Canada   November 19th, 2008 9:23 am ET

Chambliss has the backing of all the losers who are currently participating in their own circular firing squad.

Martin has the support of winners. That fact alone should send a strong signal to voters. In addition the train is getting ready to leave the station and Georgia has to decide if they want to be on it or not.
