(CNN) –- A major obstacle in Hillary Clinton’s path to becoming President-elect Barack Obama’s secretary of state may be out of the way, as former President Bill Clinton has made several concessions to help move his wife’s vetting process along.
A source familiar with the discussions between Sen. Clinton and the president-elect confirms to CNN that the former president will release the names of several major donors to the Clinton Foundation as well as submitting future foundation activities and paid speeches to a strict ethics review.
In addition, the former president is offering to step down from his day-to-day responsibilities at the foundation and inform the State Department of his speaking schedule and any new sources of income.
President Clinton’s international and financial dealings with his foundation and presidential library have been a sticking point with an Obama camp worried that Sen. Clinton’s position in the cabinet could create a potential conflict of interest as the country’s top diplomat.

NO We may never get through with the Clinton's. We have to elect somebody that knows what to do first. Obama doesn't have a clue, of what to do , so he is going to let the old farts tell him what to do.
Obama fans------SUCKERS
NO HILLARY PLEASE..! I hope and Pray that SHE does Not get this Position... I am a Independent and Very Progressive, as well as a Lot of My friends, We will be Monitoring Sen Obama;s Selection Very Carefully!! The Middle East is a Very Hot Point here, and I do NOT think for one Moment that she will be able to deal with them effectively... Bill Richardson Would Be a Much Better Choice.. AS for BILL.. Enough allready ! Please do us a favor and Disappear, Your time has come and gone !!!!! Gran for Change in Wisconsin
When does the vetting of Obama begin?
All you people out here that are saying Obama promise change but so far it looks like the Clinton staff all over again, just think of the 90's and then think how things where back then and thinks of the idiots we have in charge now, I REST MY CASE !!!!!!. Change is coming to Washington so just sit back and watch the respect the U.S. gets back all over the world. YOU GO OBAMA, DO YOUR THING, IT'S YOUR WORLD NOW.
Enrique- who do you prefer for Sos? Hagel? Lugar? Holbrooke? I like all three.
look, 4/12 Clinton Administration veteran's is NOT MUCH..Obama will still choose arounf 8,000 more
Wow, look at that! Bubba is actually humbling himself and making concessions. Way-to-go, Bill. I was feeling a little nervous about my President-elect choosing my state's Senator, but Bill's move makes me feel better.
I am in total support of President-elect Obama, but I am very worried about the people he is surrounding himself with. How can change happen if the same old individuals are writing policy. Isn't there someone outside the Washington Loop that can fill some of the key positions? Why can't he appoint an unknown and give someone else a chance to change America? I and other individuals that I work with have very good ideas as to how too improve America. I only hope that it is not going to be business as usual with the new Administration.
The Clintons are pulling the strings, there's your change!
It's amazing just how little you Clinton/Obama fans really know about economics or foreign policy or national security for that matter...its called an economic cycle...it runs from very highs to very lows and it takes years to run its course...under Clinton we reaped what reagon sowed, under Bush we are now reaping what Clinton sowed...deal with it...as for foreign policy...in today's choatic world, Teddy said it best, speak softly and carry a big stick...look at the piracy in the Gulf of Aden (look it up if you're not sure were it is)...that needs an armed response. as for the issue of terrorism in the middle east, unless you've been there, served there, lost friends and brothers in arms there you DO NOT have the right to critize those who have, nor the leaders who sent them there...your freedom of speech ends when you do not have the experience or knowledge to know of what you speak, other than that its just noise.
this is great.
I'm not sure why people are critical of this decision. Even Pat Buchanan thinks its a good idea but only because she's talented and capable. Its also good PR for our country, i'm sick of hearing about how much we are being hated by the rest of the world. Politics is 95% perception.
Hillary is the best out of best choice for SS! No way I can stand bill richardson. He is a traiter! We don't want him in Obama's administration
I am very pleased w/President elect-Obamas selections so far.
Hillary is an excellent choice for SOS. I believe this is going to be a great Administration.
I have supported Obama since his 2004 speech at the convention. I do not trust Hillary or Bill Clinton and will be very disappointed if she is S of S.
Both Clintons are only out for the Clintons. They the the WH with a few million and now have well over 100 million. Who and what did they sell out to get all that money? Us and US probably got hosed.
I say no more Clintons' please!!!!!
Obama got his follwers into the Hillary-hate mode (like "1984" 2 minutes of hate).
Can't he just command them to accept her now? (like "1984" "we have always/never been at war with...")
Thank you President Clinton. Welcome Madame Secretary of State,
Hillary Clinton!
I was hoping Obama would be a new begining for USA, but he is bringing back the old Clinton corruption machine that made a trailer park out of the White House.
It's called "Country First", thanks Mr. President..
i am not aware of any sec of state becoming a president. does this then say that she is giving up on being VP or P.
What the heck is vetting?????
Bill is a good guy. He will do the right thing to make sure the protagonists out there ahve nothing to whine about.
It's a done deal or she wouldn't have gone to Chicago for the meet.
She leaked it so he now has to do it. All this so called vetting is just a show.
Read some articles in RCP, you might learn something.
Just remember, every one, including other world leaders, have their own agendas.
I amy be mistaken, but isn't the Secretary of State next in line after the VP if something happens to the Pres???
In all the business training I've had, we learn to avoid things that might merely appear to be a conflict of interest. But on the world political stage, you're allowed to have conflicts of interest as long as everybody knows what they are? That's not good for our country. We need a Secretary of State with no appearance of conflicts of interest, it's that simple.
