Barack Obama gives Joe Biden cupcakes the day before the Vice President-elect’s 66th birthday.

CHICAGO (CNN) – The day before Vice President-elect Joe Biden turns 66, President-elect Barack Obama presented his running mate with 12 candlelit cupcakes after their weekly lunch on Wednesday. He also gave Biden Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears hats as well as a bucket of Garrett's popcorn as presents.

“You’re 12 years old!” Obama told Biden according to a Democratic source.

“Maybe in dog years!” Biden responded, laughing.

Obama and the staff then sang Biden ‘Happy Birthday.’

Rarely did Biden make a stop on the campaign trail and not mention his age. “I want you to know,” he would tell supporters, “there are only four members of the Senate who are senior to me. But the very important thing to know is there are still 39 older than me.”

I am sure that we all felt good to see Prez and V-Prez's big smiles. They are good, handsome and spirited men. They will make a great team. Obama has a BIG HEART and he greeted Joe with the cupcakes to celebrate his birthday. Tom in Delaware, YOU have no BIG HEART and you have a problem yourself. Don't say you are sorry later once the disaster get solved.

Thank you, Obama to make our smiles and know that you greeted Biden with the delicious cupcakes. Obama, you are so sweet!!!

Happy BDay, Joe the V-Prez!!!! Enjoy your day before start rolling up your sleeves and work!

I'm sure Biden will do just fine!

Usually I'm not fond of CNN filler stories like this, but this one is okay :)

As a retired teacher I get very upset at the extremely poor grammer and spelling of some of these blogs. God , what a stupid nation we have become but even more upsetting is the idiotic comments of the bloggers. Look at the states from which the lunatic fringe comes and you get all the explanation you need.

I am very proud of this man who now is our Vice President Elect. He is a very honorable and decent man who has served his country selflessly. He has also impressed me as a devoted husband and a father. I have never seen him brag about anything. Both Joe and his son Beau having graduated from Syracuse Law do not hurt either.

Happy Birthday Mr Vice President! Sorry for all of you who continue to feel so miserable. It's your own doing. None of the optimism I feel has to do with drinking any kool-aid, or seeing President elect Obama as a messiah type character. I notice the only people who ever say that type of thing are people who hate him, and wish the election would have gone any other way. I don't say he's the savior, YOU do. I say he's a president that I feel represents MY view for a refreshing change after the last 8 years I 've been subjected to the corruption of the Bush administration.

Yes, I'm acutally from Delaware, and have had to deal with Joe Biden for over 36 years.

The gaffes you've had to endure are merely the tip of the iceberg.

I suspect that after 36 weeks, the rest of the country will relate to how I feel about the senoir Senator from Delaware.

I also remember all the comments made by the Obama supporters about the Bush birthday celebration attended by John McCain...so much love.

Here's a little something to prove my point about the rationality and hypocriscy of the Obama supporters....tell me what you like best about Sarah Palin.

'nough said.

listen

I am sure G.W. Bush is not a bad person, however he is the figure head for an administration that lied it's way to starting a war that they cannot finish, only to offer contracts to their own companies and who knows what is going behind the scenes with the oil.
We can discuss all day about that gigantic debt left by them

no one can be impressed with the Bush administration.

"If he knew Bin Laden's birthday, he'd probably send him cupcakes, too. We're in for four years of mamby-pamby feel-good kumbayah…all while the world gets more dangerous. Cover some REAL news, CNN."

Yes, Kevin, he probably would. More likely the cupcakes would detonate too, and no Bin Laden anymore. On the other hand, the "tough guys" would hire a private security company, and pay it 2 billion bucks to catch Bin Laden. That company will very likely miss catching him, and ask for another 2 billion to keep looking. Then that company will file for bankruptcy, and get another 2 billion from the feds. Due to national security "interests," the friends will speed up that loan with no strings attached. Yes, the world will definitely get more dangerous, and that will happen regardless of who runs the country. The difference in handling a dangerous world is between somebody who will think and do it right the first time, instead of somebody who is impulsive and "shoots from the hip," and then later ready to live with the consequences of his screw ups.

This reminds me of Kennedy and Lyndon... think about it.
Kennedy the first catholic president, loyal to the American people promising transparency , Obama the first black president and grew from ashes to a full rose promising change, Lyndon with great experience on the senate and on foreign relations, Biden chairman of the foreign relation committee.
Lyndon is old, so is Biden, Obama is young so was Kennedy.
History repeats it self in different way.

It's true, we love Barack Obama, but we are smart enough to know he is no Saviour, he is a man, a man smart enough to live up to the Constitution. For the first time in a long time, our government will be of the people, for the people and by the people...Americans are invested in the success of President Obama. When you have the majority of The American population praying for you, the negative comments just roll off the shoulder.

I love this country...

Well jeez...I don't know, Pat. I've spontaneously had a camera in my purse lots of times. There's also one on my phone. In fact...that photo looks very much like one that a camera phone would take. And as you can see, the photo credit is for an "attendee photo".

Why can't some of you people just appreciate something nice when it happens?

It's so crazy how some people just can't seem to stop being haters. No matter what people try to do there's always going to be some kind of hater. What bothers me the most about the haters is...that can't do a better job! And so what if Obama gives Biden some cupcakes..it doesn't hurt to show a little kindess. All you haters...go back to bed and try waking up on the right side! If that doesn't work pack your bags and move to an island where you do don't have be bothered with the rest of the world. I can't stand negative people!

E.C.Coleman   November 20th, 2008 9:18 am ET

Might be thoughtful and 'a peace offering' for Obama to give cupcakes to Biden on his Birthday, but the very thought or idea that Obama would try to 'rebrand' this country is absurd and scary.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this country, except that the Democrats have pushed their 'hate Bush Campaign' with great disrespect and ridicule shown to our President and Elected Government officials. What must foreign countries think of this country? This country has earned the disrespect of the World in return. Americans and Democrats especially, should learn some manners and respect for others and our Government. Americans have never treated elected officials in such a hateful manner.

Stop spewing hatred and give love a try   November 20th, 2008 9:16 am ET

All you haters out in the world is the reason this Great Country is in the predicament that it's in right now; because you'd rather promote hate than love. What is wrong with you people? If you don't like the President and Vice President Elect, then move out the Country!!! Otherwise, shut your pothole and try to get along with one another rather than spewing hatred and wishing for something bad to happen!!! The Majority of the Country wants it to succeed, not fail, no matter who's the President and Vice President. You people are a bunch of idiots, just like your gang of terrorist thugs and gangsters (the Republicans). I don't recall hearing any criticism from you people when the Real Gangsters and Thugs (Republicans) were running this Country; now look at the mess they've created; an economic catastrophe all around the world. So, do the Majority of Americans a favor, either shut your freaking mouth, or move to another Country!!!!! Happy B-Day Vice President Elect Biden, and may GOD Bless you to have many more!!!!!

This is NEWS??????

Americans, do we really have to worry and hear about cutesy birthday cakes? What is next? Hearing a news report on how cute Obamas little girls will look when they attend thier first day at a new school?

This is exactly whay Obama got elected, Americans think he is cute, lovable and hang on every thing he does.

For the sake of America, I hope Obama does well, even if I did not vote for him. But this type of news reporting is why this country did not see through the smoke and mirrors. The real Obama has charm, is entertaining, but will this ever result in him being a GOOD President.

I still doubt it. Maybe in time the media will start to report on his faults, and the fact he is nothing more than a figure head with no experiance other than how to present a cute reputaton.

You aren't by chance on the chewing gum wagon for National Smoke Out, are you? If so, switch to Nicorette – it'll make you less grumpy. If you're like this every day, try one of those cupcakes to sweeten your sour disposition! It will do you, and the rest of us, a world of good.

Happy Birthday Joe. Hope you have many more to come.

Frank   November 20th, 2008 8:41 am ET

It's about time for a few happy stories.
Thanks......I needed that.

Good luck Obama

Jared Jackson   November 20th, 2008 8:41 am ET

Once upon a time, Bush brought Cheney celery sprinkled with heart meds, a crucifix, and a priest.

Jim   November 20th, 2008 8:40 am ET

Too bad he didn't give Joe a brain. Obama could use one too. Let's take up a collection to get them both one each.

Wendy   November 20th, 2008 8:39 am ET

Happy birthday Vice-President Elect-Mr. Biden–
I am from Ontario Canada and have watched the campaigns–
election faithfully–Havent missed anything–You 2 guys are the
Real Deal in my opinion–Down to Earth fellas–I hope and pray
you will do what you propose to do for the USA and I am confident
You and Mr. Obama are men of your Word–
Congratulations–Wendy from Peterborough, Ontario
I would love to be at the Inaugural-Fascinating History being made–

Judy Zukoski, Barnesville, PA   November 20th, 2008 8:39 am ET

Happy Birthday to a terrific VP-Elect! We love you Joe Biden!

And to Tom in Delaware, if Joe was such a dolt as you say, I doubt he would have become (and maintained) his position as Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. International leaders certainly respect him. Maybe YOU need to give the guy a chance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR.BIDEN. THE TWO OF YOU ARE A GREAT TEAM –

and to Tom in Delaware – what was that again you were saying about emotional maturity. Those who can – will and those can't revert to sarcasim, insults and meaness. please try to give "growing up" a chance

Linda from Prescott AZ   November 20th, 2008 8:36 am ET

To Tom in Delaware
instead of making nasty comments why don't you reflect on why you folks lost the election...could it have something to do with all the negativity that flows from your mouths.?

Happy Birthday Mr. Vice President elect.

John in Chicago   November 20th, 2008 8:35 am ET

Jim in Green Bay – You shouldn't worry about voting for a Bears fan, the way Chicago played! 37 – 3?????????? Jeesh!

Larry   November 20th, 2008 8:35 am ET

You misunderstand Bob. Not hate. Just noting how silly this story is.

To the other posters...how much these men LIKE each other? Do you want a reposting of comments Joe made about Obama during the primaries? The very personal comments. Gimme a break.

Archie C. Williams, Riverdale, Georgia   November 20th, 2008 8:35 am ET

Hey, Tom in Delaware.

You must be the biggest fool in American.. You are such a joke.
I think you need to move to another Country, because American is
too good for you and its about to get much better.. You don't belong
here.

Spin Doctor   November 20th, 2008 8:34 am ET

Cute story and all, but does anyone else think that there might have been some spin doctors or PR people in there saying "Hey Obama, it would be good for your image if you presented these to Joe..."

RIDICULOUS

America: What kind of change
Obama: Change we can believe in
America: What does that mean
Obama: YES WE CAN
America: Do what
Obama: Change
America: Doyou have anything else
Obama: Change we believe in
America: This is madness
Obama: YES WE CAN

Happy Birthday Joe!!! This story made my morning brighter and put a smile on my face.

Usually the news is so unsettling....like pirates in Michigan.

shorteedoowap   November 20th, 2008 8:29 am ET

Tom in Delaware,

please get over that your candidate has lost his second bid for the presidency. Im glad we voted President Obama into office, this shows he will be very down to earth with his staff. Stop being so bitter and get on board for change. Happy Birthday Mr. Vice President! President Obama has not even sworn in yet and he is wasting no time to get to work after 2 years of a grooling campaign. This is the strength and character i want in my President! Keep up the good work Mr President!

magik_dolphin   November 20th, 2008 8:29 am ET

Tom in Delaware -
Are you really from Delaware? I doubt it because most of us that are from DE love Biden! It is really sad that you still have so much hate in your heart. I understand it was a rough and tough election year but its over. Time to open your heart and let the wounds heal so we may become great USA again! I guess your mom never taught you "if you have nothing to say, don't say anything at all".

God bless the USA!

Funny is....all of you continue to tell the rest of us to "stop hatin' " on your guy, but all you have to do is go to a story about Palin and you see the hate pouring out of you. All she did was represent her party and she did it well. Get off her case!!

Happy Birthday, Joe the Vice-President-Elect!

Tom   November 20th, 2008 8:18 am ET

This is great! I don't know where other folks work, but where I work, it's not often the boss gives you a birthday present. A pat on the back, a kind word, a thoughtful gesture is some of the best things co-workers, bosses and employees can do for each other.

sp in new york   November 20th, 2008 8:07 am ET

Right on Tom in Delaware, I think it was thoughtful of Obama to do what he did, but, I gotta agree, it's the Clintons all over again, Obama had the chance to rid of them, and if he wants CHANGE, this is the way to gain respect from the people who didn't vote for him that want to support him,,,,,, move out the Clintons!!!!! I live in New York and whats Hillary done for us????? Wake up!!!!

Gale in Woodbridge, VA   November 20th, 2008 8:07 am ET

W O W !! This is what our country needs more of– with all that is going on.... ..the simpliest things are what we remember in life...... I think we all need to keep that in mind– esp. with holidays coming...

Liz in DC   November 20th, 2008 8:05 am ET

I don't think Tom believes what he says when stating, "all the rest of the Senators are smarter than [Biden]."

I think Biden is in the upper quartile. Plus, he IS A NICE PERSON. You can't say that about a lot of senators.

Cindy   November 20th, 2008 8:00 am ET

It's nice to see that these two guys can be "human". Just like us, they deserve to be able to enjoy things such as birthdays, family celebrations, etc. I'm sure most of us adjust our professional behavior when we're not on the job and let our hair down, so to speak.

The negative folks need to get over the fact that Obama-Biden won the election and nothing but an act of God can change that. With the sad state of our economy along with poor international relations, things can only get better. I think its time for everyone to roll up their colllective sleeves and do their part. Otherwise, pack your junk (along with your negative attitude) and move somewhere else.

Brigit   November 20th, 2008 8:00 am ET

I do have to say;

Mr. Obama, it doesn't like you are bringing much "CHANGE" when you are pandering to the old Washingtonians and their most powerfull lobbyist groups!

Who you kidding Mr. O?!

4 years from now I'll be voting against you. And they don't get much more liberal that I!

Vote anything but DEM/GOP in 2012

Steve   November 20th, 2008 7:55 am ET

Obama is showing that he is one of us and not so elite that he cant let his guard down and celebrate a birhtday. Nice Job! For those of you that are bashing him here go to FOx news.

xcusme   November 20th, 2008 7:54 am ET

The story is nice it shows the human side. Something I have not seen in the last 8 years. Happy birthday Joe.

Mason   November 20th, 2008 7:52 am ET

Years ago, I worked at a company where every time someone had a birthday in our division, there was a birthday cake. Everyone stopped for a few minutes, had a quick party, had a slice of cake, and got back to work feeling good. This happened a few times a month. We were all more productive after those parties!

But there was trouble with other divisions in the company, which were losing money and didn't celebrate birthdays. So even though our division was doing fine, the company forced us to cut back, and birthday parties were eliminated. Pretty soon our division was eliminated and we were all fired.

Moral of the story? Take time out to celebrate birthdays. It's good for the economy.

Happy birthday, Mr. VP-Elect!

It's refreshing and just plain nice to see politicians letting their hair down (in a manner of speaking) and just being human. I also like to see the friendship and affinity that flows between Barack Obama and Joe Biden. I have read most of Joe Biden's autobiography, "Promises to Keep" ane recommend it highly. Many happy returns to you, Mr. Vice-president Elect! We look forward to the Obama/Biden Administration with great anticipation!

Mack   November 20th, 2008 7:24 am ET

The press would not cover anything like this for Bush/Cheney...they don't cover the fact Pres Bush often visits veterans in the hospital, homes and also jobs with returning vets. You don't see these things b/c the media has demonized Pres Bush to the point where many of us who know the Pres have lost confidence in unbiased media reporting...I'm sure the next story on Obama will be him teaching his dog new tricks, and building the bb court...all the while Al Quada, Hamas and others are still planning...but hey, put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig right?

Happy birthday, Mr. Vice President elect!!!

Question: What's he going to do with the Chicago hats? He's from Delaware!

Tom in Delaware   November 20th, 2008 5:56 am ET

12 years old...emotionally.

The Obamanomics disease is spreading to birthday celebrations.

He should ghave given him a rubber foot to stick in his mouth, or maybe a 'Joe Biden' doll that will talk for 45 minutes after you pull the string.

Hey Joe, you forgot to mention that all the rest of the Senators are smarter than you are too.
