Senate offers Clinton new options

Sen. Hillary Clinton has been mentioned as a candidate for Obama's secretary of state, sources say.
Sen. Hillary Clinton has been mentioned as a candidate for Obama's secretary of state, sources say.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Democratic Senate leadership is considering a new role for Sen. Hillary Clinton should she decide to remain in the Senate and not accept the rumored offer of a position in President-elect Barack Obama's Cabinet, a Democratic official told CNN Wednesday.

CNN reported last week that Clinton and Obama met to discuss the possibility of Clinton, Obama's chief rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, serving as secretary of state. Multiple sources told CNN that Clinton left the meeting with the impression that the job was hers if she wanted it.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's motivation for considering a new role for Clinton at this time was unclear, although multiple Democratic sources said Clinton made it known to the leadership prior to her meeting with Obama that she wanted a new role.

Amazing that the democrats have to cowtow to this woman. This is the "leadership" that Americans elected into power? What a horrific joke. America has been swindled.

MD, TX...America certainly was swindled...under the very worst President in our history, George Bush. What a joke he was (among many other things).
Hillary should replace Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader.

Take a breathe, you two. The world will keep on turning. Obama hasn't even been given a chance yet and even if he does turn out to be a horrible president, we've survived them before. Jackson, Hoover, GEORGE W. BUSH!

I know every media source has HRC moving right into the Sec. of State Position, but I don’t think that is where she wants to be. It doesn’t make sense for her politically. The last Sec of State that moved to the Presidency occurred 152 years ago (thanks Hardball). In the Senate, she has the best of both worlds, so to speak. If Obama succeeds, she can say that she worked diligently with Team Obama to ensure his legislation was enacted and that his agenda was became law in 2016. If Team Obama struggles out of the gate, she can say that she is the alternative and pull a Ted Kennedy and run in 2012. You can run as an outsider when you are an insider…

    Clinton haters in 1..2..3...

All these unnamed sources is just bull. It's probably beign all orchastrated by Obama. He probably never thought bill would agree to vetting or that Hillary would want the job. Now he needs to do something to stop her from becoming the SOS quick call Harry Reid make her an offer. Obama is full of drama either publicly offer her the job or offer it to someone else just stop it.

As a NY resident who believes Senator Clinton has done a lot of good for NY, I hope she stays in the Senate. As a USA resident I hope she does become Secretary of State as she'll do a lot of good for the country. Either way, I win.

Hilary Clinton would be a very strong choice for Secretary of State. But there are others too. However, in the time since June, and in the future will Hillary Clinton and her Hillaryland supporters be able to accept that the world no longer revolves around her and them and work with President Obama on carrying out his agenda?

I think she is the best person for the job, it will help him politically in the future to have her in that post. I think she will be a very good seceraty of state.

I'd rather her stay in the Senate and offer pro-administration leadership on the important legislation that will be coming up. I also believe, that despite all the talents and gifts that HRC would bring to the state department, Gov. Bill Richardson would still be a better choice.

You know...life is a lot easier and more rewarding when you don't act like such a whiny pessimist.

And MD, TX – it's "kowtow". And I don't think they are doing so at all. As much as I did not support Clinton's presidency bid, she is one of the strongest Dems in the Senate. It never said she was demanding a promotion...it only insinuates that maybe she is interested in being more involved in this administration. Stop seeing the terror and awfulness in everything. You will be much happier in the long run, I promise.

Your right Jackie in NY its still a real mess no matter who he brings in. Why did the media hate George Buss so much, he said what he would do, no surprises, He will go down in History as one of the best Presidents ever. The young people of today, have no values, no knowledge of the world, the way it used to be and its very sad. Obama is a joke, change, Ha1

Hillary Clinton is nothing but a shameless opportunist.

Her entire political career has been motivated by nothing other than her own needs and interests.

Why did she run for Senator in New York to begin with? She never lived there. She had no ties at all to the state.

Simple, She saw it as the easiest way to springboard herself onto the national political spotlight for her own agenda.

Why would you want someone to have any part in government with that mindset?

What difference does it make we are screwed no matter what at this point.

Jackie, please wake up! We have been screwed for the last eight years. Is it so difficult to think positive and actually get behind someone who is truly trying to make a difference for everybody! There is a lot of hurt and pain going on in this world. Why is so wrong for the world to be optimistic about a new direction? Is it the American Way for people to suffer to find jobs and put food on the table to feed their families. Shouldn't you be able to work hard and retire and actually have money to retire on? WHAT IS SO WRONG with people wanting a better way in life, not a handout, just an opportunity! The country will be greater for it.

Hiliary Clinton is indeed a fantastic and fabulous professional to be in offered some outstanding role in this government. She will add much to the running of things in Washington, due to her knowledge and affability.

Any offer to her should not be perceived as bringing back Bill Clinton 's cronies to Washington, swindling or cowtowing. Barack obama offered Change from Bush,'s screw-up of things, not change from what was good hithertofore.

This Clinton unit will serve well under the Obama Administration. Should Obamamatrix 1 decide to use a Republican, the Chuck Hagel unit would be an adequate choice as well.

I am sure that President-Elect Obama knows what's going on and is just letting the Media and others blab about what they think. Hillary will stay in the Senate and be a leader of some sort but not Secretary of State. I hope that President-Elect Obama makes Bill Richardson the Secretary of State and Hillary be placed in some kind of health position. After all she did say that she had to duck from sniper fire and lied about so many things when she was running to be President so her character is in question and her truthfulness is also. We are trying to get America's credibility back not keep it tarnished.
