CNN

Watch Mukasey collapse while giving a speech Wednesday night.

(CNN) - U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech Thursday at the Federalist Society dinner at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington.

Mukasey, 67, was giving a spirited defense of the Bush administration's legal policies when his speech began to slur and he lost track of his thoughts about 30 minutes into his talk. Seconds later, he became rigid and then began to slump.

Mukasey was rushed to George Washington University Medical Center, said Peter Carr, a Justice Department spokesman.

"The attorney general is conscious, conversant and alert," said Carr. "His vital statistics are strong and he is in good spirits.

As an avowed lefty and opponent of most of Mukasey's policies, I offer my sincerest wishes for a full and rapid recovery.

I'm surprised they haven't released a diagnosis for the cause of the collapse. Maybe I'm breaking a taboo here but it looks like he could have been drunk.

Obviously the tremendous emotional strain of trying to defend the bush/cheney policies is too much for anyone to bear without serious side effects. Or maybe he is afraid he might be charged with crimes alongside the evil duo.

Mukasey's values run counter to those of the American people.

I hope he recovers, but he should be removed from his position ASAP.

It`s hard to defend Bush`s presidency. Unless, of course, you realize what the administration`s goals really were. And they weren`t exactly what we were told.

Sluring speech, losing track of thoughts. Sounds like he may have had a mild stroke.

Mukasey's tongue was overcome with the trail of lies the Bush AG's continue to foist on the American people.

Could be worse – he could be continually wiping himself with the Constitution like Ashcroft!

At least he's not Abu Gonzales, right?!

"Mukasey, 67, was giving a spirited defense of the Bush administration's legal policies "

Well, no wonder he fainted. That's more than any human could possibly accomplish. The waves of irony and fraud must have overloaded his system. I don't blame him – the amount of evil in the Bush Regime could overcome any normal man.

While I hope he has a smooth recovery, has anyone ever met a man of 67 who was on top of current world views and relevant to today's ideals? Didn't think so.

The Bush Regime MUST be tried for war crimes and high crimes against the American people, if not the World Population.

despite what who or what he may be defending, he doesn't deserve to become ill or get some of the snide comments that he may be getting here. Probably due to stress one can only hope and I for one wish him well and Godspeed.

Unreal. A man loses conciousness giving a speech, and some of you STILL can only disparge the man because he is a supporter of GWB. Thoughts and prayers go out to him, is what you should have said. If the shoe was on the other foot, and Conservatives attacked a Liberal when he was down, you would be out for blood. Shame on you.
