CNN

Watch Mukasey collapse while giving a speech Wednesday night.

(CNN) - U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech Thursday at the Federalist Society dinner at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington.

Mukasey, 67, was giving a spirited defense of the Bush administration's legal policies when his speech began to slur and he lost track of his thoughts about 30 minutes into his talk. Seconds later, he became rigid and then began to slump.

Mukasey was rushed to George Washington University Medical Center, said Peter Carr, a Justice Department spokesman.

"The attorney general is conscious, conversant and alert," said Carr. "His vital statistics are strong and he is in good spirits.

I am glad he is ok.

I am shocked that only three people that posted have a heart, the rest of you just type away saying "he had this coming" or what ever. We are people and we should be concerned when members of OUR gov't are ill.

For the three that are respectful, good for you and the rest of you think what you typed, because Karma is a ...... when she comes around.

The Attorney General should have been giving a speech defending the ILLEGAL POLICIES of George W Bush. I hope he recovers to speak the TRUTH next time.

I may not like his policies, and I truly despise the way he 'practices law', but do hope he fully recovers.

You people really are sick...The man just collapsed and the messages read "karma" and cheaney is next. The bitterness that all you people have has certainly swayed your judgement. I know you all have plenty of failures in life but not all is to be blamed on the disasterous Bush administration.

Fainting spell my butt. You don't lose your ability to find and form words from a fainting spell.

Even if it was a mini stroke, they still can't be honest.

All that aside, I wish him and hope he gets better soon.

Sincerest Well wishes to you AG... but please refrain from doing what you were doing when you collapsed. Not because I don't want you to be doing 'THAT' but because if you do, it'll happen again and believe you me, there is enough bad news in the market, we do NOT want to hear about you collapsing again. Once again, sincerest well wishes for you and your family sir.

You Liberals are disgusting. You find joy in the news of a Republican collapsing yet just a few months ago when Ted Kennedy fell ill you were beside yourselves and called for everyone including Republicans to pray for him. Hypocrites.

God is paying him back for covering up the Bush/Cheney/Rummy LIES..I would suggest that all the others who have LIED for Bush repent immediately...GOD is watching this country. Was there a priest nearby when Mukasey collapsed?

I believe someone needs to look at term limits in Washington, some of these people are way beyond the point of being useful.

Drunk? I don't think so because he was speaking just fine prior to his collapse. Like others suspect, I'm thinking he could have had a small stroke. Glad he's feeling better today.

Why isn't the retirement age extended to politics?! Why are these old people allowed to practically die in their positions? They are too old and this is ridiculous! After a certain age there should be a cut-off point and they should be required to turn in their congress pin! I'm so glad we didn't hire a 72 year old president! Wake up people! These men are too old, get them out!!
