An interview Gov. Sarah Palin did Thursday is causing a stir.
An interview Gov. Sarah Palin did Thursday is causing a stir.

(CNN) — It’s the ultimate holiday photo-op for any governor: the yearly pardoning of a turkey to spare it from demise days before Thanksgiving.

But former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is causing a stir for an interview she gave after pardoning an Alaska turkey Thursday, during which one bird was being slaughtered in the background.

Palin appeared unaware of what was going on directly behind her, though she did seem to take a glance at the unfortunate event at one particular point during the interview.

"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism," Palin said during the interview. "Certainly will probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but at least it was fun."

"I am always in charge of the turkey so I am where I need to be today to prepare for that," she also said.

As God as my witness…I thought turkeys could fly!

Cynthia   November 21st, 2008 8:03 pm ET

I find it funny that all liberals can do is take jabs at this woman. So disrespectful, just as they took shots at W Bush his whole term. I am a conservative, but am willing to see what he has to offer and refuse to stoop to the levels that liberals did with Bush. Pathetic!

tooironic   November 21st, 2008 6:28 pm ET

Something I noticed in the full broadcast of Sarah Palin's latest politically tone deaf blunder : the pardoned (yeah, right) turkey was too 'dirty' for Ms Palin to touch it, and she 'squeeed' away from it as fast as possible. Is this the same Sarah Palin who bragged about field dressing a moose?

I swear, this woman is a walking SNL sketch.

She should try stand up comedy next time.

(In her defense, Sarah might have been trying to keep her 'on loan from the GOP' clothing clean.)

Katherine   November 21st, 2008 6:26 pm ET

I thought of WKRP in Cincinnati when Les Nessman threw the turkeys out of the plane. This is just another sit-com scene that will last for a long time until someone takes it offline. She wants publicity and she's getting it. Palin reminds me of that traffic accident where you don't want to look, but look anyway.

Where was the "Mission Accomplished" banner?

Too funny.

Charlotte   November 21st, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Nobody is upset that someone is killing a turkey for Thanksgiving. That is, after all, how they end up on the dinner table. It is absolutely hilarious and so completely in keeping with her brainless persona that she is busy pardoning the poor bird while he is busy being butchered. This bimbo is so clueless, can't believe anyone supported her VP bid! This story is so funny – it's almost too funny to be believed. Any chance the whole thing was photoshopped by one of the many Palin detractors? She has said a lot of disjointed and senseless things while being shown to be a complete idiot, this is almost like an SNL skit taking her over the top!

the worlds longest train wreck!
she reminds me of bush when he was first elected.(or selected)
she continues to say and do the stupidest things!
it not that shes news worthy, its that shes entertaining!
love her or hate her, she makes people laugh!
she makes me laugh, and i love to hate her!
i hope she stays around for longer.
she cant do any harm to us anymore; unless your one of those poor

NOTED POST "Another Sick Blog…. 98% of America Eat's Meat… But they pick on Sarah Paling, while they their "Ham Samwich"…

Well now got to ask, is that ham with or without lipstick???

It is getting hotter and better   November 21st, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Yes, people… We need to eat meat and we eat meat. We also adore children, but we really do not need to see in the news the process of making them. Like we all understand the natural needs (uhm, i mean, after the turkey dinner…), but we'd find it disgusting to be shown here, even it is really natural and every one does it. My point is, there are some things which are better leave alone when you make the talk in front of the camera, especially if you've just got your extra low ratings after dirty political games. Why wouldn't she make the press blah-blah somewhere else, with a bit more appropriate background, with some nicer looking guy? If you are in politics, you must think at least a little bit
about your image, especially if you are a woman and the mother of five. How unfortunately for you, Sarah.

Paige   November 21st, 2008 6:16 pm ET

And how is this any different to how the White House does photo ops with their "live" turkey before Thanksgiving ??

Maybe the only difference is that the White House's turkey is brushed down for the photo op.

DP in CA   November 21st, 2008 6:15 pm ET

If the governor of Michigan did the exact same thing, it wouldn't be worth a place on the CNN Ticker. It isn't worth it for the governor of Alaska, either. Get a different fixation, CNN, please.

delighted democrat in florida   November 21st, 2008 6:14 pm ET

i think it is time for us all to start acting like adults.

she is an american like all of us, even if her views are different and foreign to most of us.

she fought to become our next vice president and she lost. she is still a govenor and be respected as such.

but if you are going to start doing national coverage of govenors, how about taking a look at the bachelor governor Charlie Crist…. i think there is a better story there ;)

but seriously this is not CNN worthy, imo, i do not care about Govenor Sarah Palins Thanksgiving duties. Thanks but No Thanks.

This from the mouth of someone with a degree in journalism!

How did this ignorant woman become governor? Admittedly, most people I've know who went to Alaska were 'lower 48′ misfits who just didn't like the conformity and rules down here. Now though, I question their political judgement as well.

Ask any Alaskan, Sarah never used to dress like that when she was out and about before in AK, now she's got to get all 'dressed up'. She's changed a heck of a lot since the campaign, you betcha she has ;-)

boered1   November 21st, 2008 6:10 pm ET

the fact that the turkey got killed on camera behind her is NOt the point idiots!

it is the fact, much like her knowledge of Africa being a "country and not a continent" she is unaware of reality even when it occurs right beside her!

like most of the radical religious right they do not understand, or WANT, to understand the baisics of reality that is why they blissfully attack science even as science works to save their lives.. idiots one and all

Lost in Texas   November 21st, 2008 6:08 pm ET

isn't it about time to get Gov Palin OUT of the national news? She is past being newsworthy for every little thing she does. and this was a real turkey of a story anyway. We should get to the real business of what's going on like, how in the heck is this "Joe the Plumber" guy getting a 1/2 million dollar book deal and what did he do to deserve it??

great story   November 21st, 2008 6:05 pm ET

A lot can change in two and a half weeks…

The GOP can like her if they want but she's just not qualified for any public office. She's uneducated, uninformed, frivolous, corrupt and is not a team player. All beauty pageant poise and no substance. Is she deaf? She ignored the murderous chants at her rallies and she pretends to not hear the cries of the unlucky turkey.

Ed Ruff   November 21st, 2008 6:04 pm ET

C'mon Palin Bashers, how do you think that tasty turkey gets to your Thanksgiving table. It just proves how really lucky that turkey was to be pardoned by her. At least it's not gonna be eaten by a bunch of hypocrites, like the ones that wrote in to bash her – GET OVER IT !

Someone please investigate this scumbag now. This is how she operates all over Alaska taking a page out of Ted Stevens criminal book.

Negaunee   November 21st, 2008 5:47 pm ET

palin is just plain stupid

musing   November 21st, 2008 5:44 pm ET

I guess it is the cluelessness that gets me, not the fact of turkey-killing, for which we can be grateful if we are not vegetarians. I mean, thank God someone else wants to do such a messy job. I grew up in a place where I witnessed the demise of many a turkey, one of which my family was given to eat by the farmer who did it, our landlord. It was a precious lesson in reality to live in that place when I was 5-6 years old, and I sent my children to farm summer camp so they could have a sense of everything required of that life.

But the dumb turkey pardoning – it sounds about as silly as many of the English customs around the monarchy, and I wonder if it doesn't derive from it. Perhaps it is even older. The ruler is important because he can spare life or take it. Sarah Palin understands that – it the monopoly of rulers, and it is why something like abortion would not be permitted in her realm. Sending troops to war, executing prisoners, bombing cities — all very well if the ruler is doing it. Not okay for the commoners.

I am already happier with a "ruler" who gets it that his rule is temporary, that he is actually a commoner who will return to relative powerlessness, and that he must therefore try to conduct himself for the greater good. But then Tony Blair, Bush's "poodle", was a liberal, educated Labour guy the way Obama is a Dem. I do hope Obama is much, much smarter. He will certainly be more powerful.

Sarah Palin is not going to be a presidential contender ever.

Allen in Hartwell, GA   November 21st, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Diggin   November 21st, 2008 5:39 pm ET

The ignorance in these comments is astounding.

The point is not about turkeys and how they are killed.

The point is that the incident of pardonning the turkey and subsequent interview were a political stunt and photo opportunity for Palin. Though they told her what was going on in the background, she saw no problem with it.

By deciding to do a photo op to get her face in the news, Palin ignorantly sees no problem with pardonning one turkey while others are slaughtered behind her – poor judgment. It's known as delicious irony.

I am tired of hearing about Sarah Palin, She is just too Redneck for my taste with all her talk about going out and shooting Moose and Wolfs from Choppers. I am tired of it and now have her standing in front of a place where they slaughter Turkeys is just to much… This woman has gotten her 15 minutes of fame, now go back to Alaska and leave this Wacko lady alone.. If this is the Best the Republicans can come up with for 2012, it should be a no brainier as to the Democrats winning again in a land slide decission. Did anyone watch Boston Legal 2 weeks ago when an employee was fired for voting for McCain from her job. I laughed for 10 minutes that finally someone said it like it is. I didn't laugh that McCain didn't get the vote but the person voted for Palin because she was pretty, and wanted a woman in the White House so her boss fired her. Dumb Dumb Dumb…

Sorry folks but she is funny, she knew walking in how the game is played and you do not quite "Cold turkey". The neo's have got to get over covering for her for her every time someone ruffles their feathers. S he simply was not qualified, and when she ran laid egg after egg in her interviews. She probably never will be much more then some hen that got 15 minutes of fame, unless her flock is so foolish as to make her TIC Turkey in Charge.. She simply proves it time after time one not be a wild turkey to fly off in eractiv manner, more so when interviewed. She got the job based on some spin on oil and turkey do not mix. This thing was simply another Fowl up, by her. She ran for office, so is public target and no closed season on her. This interview simply goes with the turf or even the permafrost as had she had to buy the publicity, she'd have found it would be more then "chicken feed" ot pay for it. .. So be careful of what you say, she lives not to far from Santa's home, and could probably turkey trot right up there and bad mouth you, In closing Gobble Gobble Gobble, for now she is the national bird.. of humor. . .

Dick Cavett perfectly described Sara Palin's poor grasp of diction, "She speaks like someone with no first language".

John Q. Cynic   November 21st, 2008 5:28 pm ET

What's new that Palin is clueless to what is going on around her. Can you imagine the flunkies that would be part of the transition team if the losers somehow won the election. We have a new President worthy of the office, our nation understood the importance of a White House that has an academic, intellectual, and emotion powerhouse. We could have two academic failures who were willing to continue claims that Iraq was worthy of American blood…and money. We see the Treasury printing more pale green backs, but American blood has got to stay in the circulatory system to succeed. Arizona…do yourselves a favor, and flush McCain, he isn't worthy of the office.

Bob   November 21st, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Yes we all know where food comes from. We also know how babies are born but they don't show that on national TV. The reason why is because there are things that are inapporiate to show even though the reality is that these things happen. The word everyone is lookking for here is called judgement.

Brian   November 21st, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Which is worse: (1)Palin talking while a turkey (of which or whom she may or may not have been aware) was being decapitated behind her; or (2) the decision of the press not only to include the turkey in the video angle used, but also to air the video and then inviting bloggers to somehow use the 'head chop' shot as use, in a subtle, backhanded way, for fodder for again casting an unfavorable light upon the Governor of Alaska? Quite frankly, the whole thing is just simply childish!

Palin haters have their panties all bunched up…again. Its good to know a potential CINC understands the natural AND man-made brutality in this world. Life isn't all white wine and lattes. Most liberals couldn't last a week outside of their urban enclaves where undocumented workers clean their toilets, cook their meals, and pick up their dog doo. I was a once proud liberal Democrat. Pelosi, Reid, and Teddy K. showed me the error of my ways. I've evolved into a strong, firm libertarian. Thank God, Barack is showing his true self and you liberal pantywaists are all a twitter. He's earned my vote in 2012 even before he's inaugurated for his first term. At least liberals fun to laugh at, especially when they're so full of themselves.

LOL this woman is a disaster

Leslie   November 21st, 2008 5:14 pm ET

And she calls herself a "pro-lifer?" She's a pro-loser.

Peter   November 21st, 2008 5:14 pm ET

YAY!!! SARAH!!!

Reece   November 21st, 2008 5:13 pm ET

MAYBE Palin was there to give some peace to the bird…dying isn't too bad when you don't have to listen to that shrilly voice.

Me thinks the turkey is in a happy place away from palin.

Rachel   November 21st, 2008 5:12 pm ET

I didn't want to read about what Sarah Palin was doing while running for VP, I have even less interest in her now.

Give it a rest!

dc   November 21st, 2008 5:12 pm ET

how is this news?

Jon   November 21st, 2008 5:12 pm ET

I honestly cannot believe the GOP nearly put her in the #2 spot…unless they now claim it was for the #2 as in poo…. :)

Reality   November 21st, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Those calling Palin unaware would not last a heartbeat in a television interview, where rule 1 is keep your eyes on the camera. Just evidence of Palin's experience. The camera crew has, no doubt, been fired. The guy who killed the turkey (and was was only "unaware" person present) has, no doubt, been fired.

Turkeys will be killed in huge numbers until January. All that is being mocked in this article is a busy and uniquely American industry that supports many American families and brings millions of American families together every year.

Andrew B.   November 21st, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Sarah's words are just so full of weapons-grade stupid.

Tee Tee, VA   November 21st, 2008 5:11 pm ET

She is just an airhead. Since she is in politics, she should have considered the thoughts and feelings of other people concerning animals. She could have picked a better spot to have the interview. Yes, we do eat turkeys for Thanksgiving but we do not want to see how it gets to the table. She can forget about 2012 because everytime she gets infront of a camera, she looks more idiotic.

CJB - Phoenix   November 21st, 2008 5:10 pm ET

aninformedliberal – So if you don't see the blood, does it mean it's not there? I don't understand your logic.

I have plenty of meat-loving anti vegetarian friends and family(ok well they are not really friends). My take on things if you understand the meat industry and are find with it and want to continue eating meat then I don't have a problem with that. It's the people who stuff there faces with Turkey on thanksgiving then can't watch how they are killed or how they live. It's a fundamental flaw in thinking that goes WELL beyond what you eat.

Susan   November 21st, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Alaska should be ashamed.

Jasmine in Germany   November 21st, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Idiots.

Ken   November 21st, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Come on, folks… it's not about the liberals or conservatives, the red or blue, Dems or GOP… It's about the irony of the situation.

Gotta admit, it's kinda funny, no matter who was pardoning one turkey while the other was getting axed just feet away! Oops!

Kath   November 21st, 2008 5:09 pm ET

It amuses me that people say she is not news, yet there are over 500 comments on this story. Evidently, people are interested. i admit looking at it myslef out of curiosity, even though, I too, am sick of her and wish we didn't hear about her any more.

Don't blame CNN – it is obvious from the posts that she IS news. We need to quit reading the stories if we REALLY aren't internested.

Bubba   November 21st, 2008 5:09 pm ET

She pardoned Scooter Libby? I thought only the president- oh, I see. Man, she and Quayle should have a baby.

former gop   November 21st, 2008 5:08 pm ET

You know why she wouldn't release her medical records? We'd find out she has no heart. This woman is abominable, atrocious, disgusting, callous, wretched, inhumane, barbaric, grotesque… just plan evil.

Joe Momma   November 21st, 2008 5:06 pm ET

That turkey will taste great on Thanksgiving. So all of you who are complaining about how horrible it is, just remember that things like that happen every day so you can have food on your plate. It's not a big deal, you just finally have to see what goes into getting your dinner. Maybe Obama can hide you from the harsh realities of life by giving you a socialist state where everything is provided for you and you never have to kill your food yourself.

Shadow   November 21st, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I'm an Obama supporter and I think this story is ridiculous. Who's idea is this of news????? Get real people. We have a lot more to be concerned with in this country than SP having a conference with a turkey being slaughtered in the background. So what! You have to kill them in order to eat them!

WayneVT   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Priceless! Get ready for a Tina Fey sketch on SNL this weekend!

evastudent   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Sick and stupid!

I wish she goes a way, no more Sarah Palin please!!!

treadmarkz   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Could we PLEASE stop giving this woman attention and go back to normalcy? We haven't had it for over a decade since before Monica, before Newt Gingrich. Can't we go back to the good old days of 1993?

marty   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Just because most of you carnivores want to believe that meat comes to your table in some sterile, nice-to-the-animal way, doesn't make Sarah an idiot or an airhead. She is in Alaska, a state where more of the people are in touch with where their meat comes from. Many of them still do their own butchering and are not bothered by seeing it on the news. So give it a rest, you meat-eating hypocrites from the left. This is reality TV and reality life. Just try eating that turkey on T'day without remembering this video. LOL.

Susan   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

That Burberry scarf she is wearing doesn't look like it came from a thrift store.

Jasmine in Germany   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Can not Governor Palin learn to speak the English Language properly?

PalinSucksDick   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Palin is a stupid wench. Just like many Americans who supported her.

gwen   November 21st, 2008 5:05 pm ET

This woman cannot even complete a grammatically correct sentence! As far as the bird is concerned, I'm surprised she didn't whip our her rifle and finish the bird off herself!

al   November 21st, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I love the way the American hating Palin appololgists blame liberals for Palins stupidity. She is a walking Saturday night live skit…Pointing out facts is not attacking someone. ….. Ill bet ratings will be high this weekend after seeing this interview.

Nemesis   November 21st, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Get over yourself people….The media is following Palin around like groupies around a celebrity. Get over yourself people, are you so dumb as to think turkeys commit suicide to become the main course every Thanksgiving? Get over your self people. I'll keep my guns, I'll keep my money, I'll keep my freedom. YOU can keep the change.

Broncojohnny   November 21st, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I'm enjoying the PETA nutcases on this, it is fantastic. I'll break a kitten's neck with my bare hands tonight when I get home just for you guys!! lmao

CJB - Phoenix   November 21st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

It doesn't really suprise me she wasn't phased. I consider myself a liberal but people on both sides who thinks this is disgusting…..how do you think you get your turkey for thanksgiving….do you think it lives a full happy life and is then pet'd to death? C'mon people, get a clue. If you are complaining about this then you are and idiot for not knowing what happens to your precisu t-day turkey. This is mild in comparison to what happens at large processing facilities, it gets much worse.

I am a vegetarian and won't be eating a Turkey on thanksgiving so all this did for me was reconfirm how I have felt about Palin since day one. She is EVERYTHING wrong with America….there…I said it. Happy Thanksgiving!

Andy   November 21st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Enough of this already….by the way where is Obama during the start of the Depression here…..maybe Bush caused it, but does not look like Obama is ready to take charge does it? Keep hiding Big O….just like the Repubs, no different…..just owned by different groups……

Patrick   November 21st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I find this pretty funny. Beyond that, it's a stupid story, suitable for FARK

Pam T.   November 21st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Can it get any worse for this woman? It needs to stop. She needs to stop. Her 15 minutes were over several weeks ago. She needs to just get on with her life and go eat turkey. Maybe the one slaughtered over her shoulder w a s her turkey!!!! Ms. Palin I think your turkey is ready for you now…

Abe   November 21st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Palin was informed what was going on behind her.She said it was ok.She looked at the turkey and said "gotcha for Thanksgiving".

Palin has an IQ of 116. At that level, what can you expect? A genius she ain't.

No i am not her supporter, but i have enough of her coverage.

Please please please!!!!!

sickofbiasCNN   November 21st, 2008 4:59 pm ET

Why CNN do you continue to try to smear Palin? If you are going to report on her then how about some positive balance?

will   November 21st, 2008 4:59 pm ET

Liberal hypocrites who did not support Palin. Here you had a chance to support a women who got where she is on her own merit and not on the coat tails of her husband. Such a shame because this is one well put togethor women. She just made a little too much sense and had too many "family values". Oh well, we've got a figurehead and a retread corpse who has been on the hill for 30 years. Nice job folks.

Mary   November 21st, 2008 4:59 pm ET

The New Civil War has begun (Sons of the Founders vs. The Socialists)   November 21st, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Did you hear? Palin eats babies. Uncooked and still alive. And she jay-walks too. And probably says the occasional swear word. I bet she even cuts those tags off mattresses.

This just in to the CNN newscenter in Atlanta: Media hates Republicans. Pictures at 11…

Gary   November 21st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Sara Palin is a low form of human life. She is disguisting and totally a WASTE OF LIFE!!!!!Send this moronic stone age creature to another country.Maybe Putin needs a house maid.

Mike, Syracuse NY   November 21st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Isn't this media facination with Palin getting just a little Paris Hiltonish? We hear 10 times more about the losing VP candidate than the winner….um who was that again?

Matt   November 21st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

This isn't upsetting to me, it is just wildly humorous and ironic to no end. She's essentially doing a photo-op and it ends up entirely contrary to the original intention. It looked more like an SNL skit than anything. The worker looking over is making a face like "Is she seriously doing an interview pardoning a turkey in front of the machines?" It's like she is completely oblivious to everything when she gets in front of a camera. Sarah is priceless. Bless her heart.

Diane   November 21st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Why does she get so much interest? It's because people love to hate her. It's just fun. She's so preposterous yet so self-righteous, so garbled and inarticulate yet so confident. So Christian yet so sneaky, illicit and hateful. So ambitious yet so undereducated. So outrageously idiotic yet so popular with a certain segment, which is becoming increasingly marginalized. I think that too contributes to the glee people feel in slamming her. Maybe, just maybe, we are finally coming out from under the right wing dark ages.

((( LOL )))   November 21st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

No one can make this stuff up. This woman is a nut.

candy   November 21st, 2008 4:56 pm ET

People who wonder at the outcry don't realize that, while killing animals for food is one thing, glorifying the killing is just sick. Palin's "no worries" comment on this episode is not only sick (no surprise coming from someone who takes innocent lives while sitting comfortably in a helicopter) but also is a show of lack of good judgment (no surprise there either) I guess in the conservative right's mind, only fetuses count as lives.

Sunny- Houston, TX   November 21st, 2008 4:56 pm ET

divad   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Sarah Palin pardoning a turkey…that's hilarious.
She probably shot it with her AK-47 after the cameras were off.
You know those Republicans…all for life unless its animal life…in that case kill em all.

l davis   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

The situation is perfect – Palin is clueless, but wait, did she shoot the turkey herself?

kevin   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

At least that turkey is going to feed the hungry we all celebrate as a national holiday. Happy Thanksgiving

Lisa   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

If you eat meat, how can you complain about this? I for one am glad one of these BS "feel good" turkey "pardon" stories has a shot of truth in it. If you buy meat, you're paying someone to slaughter an animal on your behalf, simple as that.

If that makes you squeamish or uncomfortable, consider not eating meat. I used to love the taste of meat, but realized I couldn't in good conscience pay someone else to do something I could never do with my own two hands: end the life of a sentient being. It wasn't that hard, and I'm totally happy with what I eat now! A peaceful Thanksgiving to you all.

Paula   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Patricia in Las Vegas   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

For the people that keep bringing up the 57 states thing. You ARE aware that in the primary there WERE 57 contests. 52 in the states (Texas had a primary AND a caucus PLUS District of Columbia) plus: Americans abroad, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Rob   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

In was a very unfortunate background for a news program. She was told it would be the background, asked if she wanted it changed, and she declined. Not her best choice and a bit insensitive.

hahahahah   November 21st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Really how lame of a people are we not to know where our food comes from… its like telling your kids that babies come from storks….

Dennis   November 21st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

This is really news worthy? Really? It seems like you guys just can't get enough of reporting on anything and everything you can on Palin.

Where were you on the Zogby poll that showed that the majority of Obama voters didn't know BASIC facts about either candidate based on the BIASED broadcasting!!!!??!!!!

Maybe if you spent more time reporting NEWS instead of National Enquirer like stories, your viewers wouldn't be as dumb as rocks.

The majority didn't know that the Democrats controlled congress for the past 2 years, didn't know who Nancy Pelosi was and never heard of William Ayers!!! Incredible!!!!!!! But thank g0d they knew Palin had $150K in clothes provided to her by the RNC!

It's no wonder this economy is in shambles. This country is filled with idiots!!!!

Ty Webb   November 21st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Tim-NewMexico   November 21st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Hey! If you eat meat then I don't think anyone should say anything hypocritcal or negative. It's terrible that people want to ignore what it takes to put meat on the table to keep the human race fed.
I think that kind of thinking disrespects the animal.
Heck! I want to eat that FRESH turkey now!

Pilar27   November 21st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Before eating the turkey, YOU NEED TO KILL IT! Hello… GET REAL! Why is the media so obsessed, or should I repeat Letterman's words, so "aroused" by Sarah Palin?

I hear so much about her that I might vote for her next time!

Ever read The Jungle? And you call seeing a turkey slaughtered on t.v
in the background bad? What do you think you're eating when you're eating eggs? the meat on your plate? people need to realize that this is reality and start getting over the fact that palin will be in charge of the state of Alaska not of the US (because most of you live nowhere near where she governs) and focus on more important things

Willy Brown   November 21st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Good interview. Get those turkeys!

charlie   November 21st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Give it a break CNN, are you hard up for news? You cannot honestly believe that people are so naive that they think the turkey's actually show up in the grocery store all wrapped up. Any nature loving person would know that a freshly killed fowl is the best meat you can ever eat. Give up CNN your drive by media is starting to sicken me. Why don't you report on the Obama camp and their back peddling on the second comings abilities to solve all of America's problems!

Orbiter Dictum   November 21st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

What do you expect — from one turkey to another. Has Palin considered going on the comedy circuit?

Bob   November 21st, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Another fine example of the Media trying to manipulate the news. Everyone is missing the point of this interview – the NEWS CREW are the ones that set up this shoot, and picked this spot. They are the ones that have acted questionably – not Palin! Either they are complete morons for picking this location to shoot, or they are once again trying to deliberately make Sarah look bad. Shame on them, and shame on the public for not seeing where the fault lies in this event.

This is no big deal but isn't it funny how this woman can't seem to do anything right. What other politician would have been caught standing in front of a slaughtered turkey at a turkey pardoning? The only people who want her to stay in the spotlight are the late night comedians.

Do people think that the Turkey fairy deposits sliced turkey in the deli? The writing of the story tells us more about the author and CNN than it does about Palin.

Rob   November 21st, 2008 4:41 pm ET

To all you bashing Palin – what do you get if you give Palin a labotomy and drop her from the top of the ugly tree (making sure she hits every branch)? Answer: Hillary Clinton (note: it'll help if Todd loses his morals and becomes a skirt chaser).

Carol in Idaho   November 21st, 2008 4:40 pm ET

How embarrasing for her. She should have led the camera & reporter away from that area. I don't like Sarah Palin nor did I vote for her but this can't make her happy. A lot different from the photo ops she had while on the campaign trail. I kind of feel for sorry for her. The Republicans totally used her. She has such blind ambition that she allowed herself to be used. It is sad actually. She needs to stay in Alaska with her own people and focus on governing that state instead of trying to "fit in with the Jones." In her circle I am sure she is tops – she needs to stay there and be happy doing so.

zaphod2000   November 21st, 2008 4:40 pm ET

"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism," Palin said during the interview. "Certainly will probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but at least it was fun."

Even if this bimbo had known that a turkey was being slaughtered behind her she would have NOT cared. This is a woman who supports killing wolves from helicopters and killing pups in theiri dens.
COULD WE PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE STOP HAVING TO READ ABOUT THIS PIECE OF TRASH ONCE AND FOR ALL. THERE ARE 50 STATES – ENOUGH OF THIS AIRHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!q

Okay…. I don't like Sarah Palin because of her views and her politics but, this is stupid. Why does this imagery upset people when this most American’s will do anything they can to have one prepared for them during Thanksgiving and Christmas? People actually cry their eyes out if they can't afford to have one for the holidays. I think that we should recognize when we are being stupid.

Sarah Palin didn't slaughter the turkeys… she's just going to cook one in her oven… and so all of you bozos. I think that it is good when the country has an ah ha moment. Guess where our food comes from ding-a-lings?

joey from sd   November 21st, 2008 4:35 pm ET

it wasn't the fact that a turkey got slaugtered on camera that made this bad for her. IT WAS WHAT SHE WAS SAYING!! line after line of non-sequiters and stupidity.

Bobbie   November 21st, 2008 4:34 pm ET

OMG!!! I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants!!! She just keeps on opening her mouth and out comes the dumbest stuff you've ever heard!!! How did she get to be govenor of AK???? They must be growing "wacky weed" up there and smoking it, cause this can't be for real!

Turkeys are for eating, not pardoning. OMG…I still love her!

Joe Green   November 21st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

That was a funny video. Sam the slaughterer seems to enjoy his work, often looking right at the camera while he snaps the heads off the turnkeys and bleeds them out (while he holds the thrashing body).

I think he enjoyed "Dissing" Governor Palin.

Lani in Los Angeles   November 21st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

She is too strange for me. I'm glad she's not my mail person let along vice president.

We allknow that turkeys are killed so we can eat them! The problem people is that any sensible governor would know not to do an interview in front of a turkey slaughter. Children may be watching, plus who wants to see that bloody mess!

Let's just all give thanks on Thanksgiving that Palin is gone, back to the wilderness of the unknown. Maybe while she's there she can really read some newspapers, maybe watch the news shows, learn something about the world and please, learn the English language! How on earth did she graduate college?

C A Wren   November 21st, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Silly Sarah Strikes Again.

What a lack of common sense and political savvy. She was asked about the back ground activity and if it was OK. She said You Betcha.

What a shock. A news shot cashing in on the anti-Palin bandwagon. It's not Palin's fault that the cameraman used an inappropriate angle.

GraceR   November 21st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

geez…MSNBC must be desperate to keep Palin in the news. This was done at a small local farm in Wasilla with local press only there. MSNBC had to have gone through a lot of local affiliate footage to have found this. And Palin doesn't seem at all oblivious to what's going on, as she said they'd probably get criticism for it.

BTW….what's the big FN deal anyway? People in Alaska are used to seeing film like this everyday on TV. That way of killing turkeys is far more humane than the way my grandfather used to do it–and all us kids used to watch.

Jimi NY   November 21st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Debbie   November 21st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Why is this dingbat still considered newsworthy?

I'd rather see Kato Kaelin back in the news. He at least had some entertainment value.

Give it a rest, CNN. There's a lot of more interesting news to report….with the emphasis on "news".

Jennifer   November 21st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Next thing you know, we'll be hearing complaints that Sarah is sucking up more than her allotted amount of air. I wonder how the media feels about getting ratings by browbeating this lady repeatedly? It's also pretty pathetic that all of the people who dislike Sarah Palin are still disrespecting her. Their guy one-so lay off!

sg   November 21st, 2008 4:10 pm ET

an informed liberal   November 21st, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Liberals know how meat gets to the table. So don't get your blaze orange panties in a bunch, Republicans! And just because I eat meat doesn't mean I want to see the blood. I just wasn't brought up like that.

It was an unfortunate choice of background, and that was the journalist's fault, not hers.

I wonder what happened to the turkey she pardoned? My gut feeling is that this was a PR stunt and the critter was put right back in line for the ax. What else would they do with it? Buy it a parka and walk it around Wasilla?

TM in CO   November 21st, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Come on CNN. Let Sarah fade off into the Alaskan sunset. Who cares what she's doing or where she is? After the election, my hope was to never have to hear or look upon her again. Let her go back to the unknown person she was before someone shoved her down McCains throat.

Val, Atlanta, Ga   November 21st, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Yes they do slaugter turkeys for eating but since I do not kill animals for sport I really would rather not see a grusome killing of any animal on TV weather I eat them or not. I eat pork and beef but I don't want to see them slaughtered on my TV screen, How sick.

sg   November 21st, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Yes people – Turkeys are raised on farms and then they have to be slaughtered and cleaned before being packed in the pretty plastic wrapper and put in a freezer. The media is a pack of fools to make a big deal out of this. Anyone who's grown up on a farm or hunted on a regular basis would act somewhat casual about this. It's life – Eat or be eaten. Idiots!

Get a grip. Just because someone knows what a Burberry scarf is does not mean they own one or are snobs. Pick up a magazine and you can tell exactly what is Burberry, they are pretty recognizable. I know what a Louie Vitton is and would never in my life own one.

Maggie in NYS   November 21st, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Gosh, I sure am glad there are so many republicans out there letting me know where my Thanksgiving turkey comes from, otherwise I'd never have known! I never, ever would have thought that turkeys were actually alive before they plopped down on my table. Do they do that to chickens, too?

Next thing you know, you'll be telling me that steak comes from actual cows, or that bacon comes from real pigs! I'm so happy you were able to educate me on that, because I was beginning to wonder.

LOL

The sad thing is that you guys can't seem to master the irony of the situation, or the economy for that matter.

Vickie   November 21st, 2008 4:02 pm ET

@Idiots Trying to dump on Obama using this story
"Oh yeah…when Obama eats turkeys, they are not killed. He just wills them onto his plate"

maybe – but he's certainly not dumb enough to be on national TV in front one actually being slaughtered!

How the heck does Obama have anything to do with Palin's Alaskan turkey slaughterfest?

Terri, Atlanta   November 21st, 2008 4:02 pm ET

I saw the interview on MSNBC last night – she is always reciting the same old same old – "beauty pageant answers" boy where is her hair and makeup people? LOL she sure does not look the same. This woman is one big ignoramus!

I was not a follower of Governor Palin during the presidential election. However, I cannot see what this has to do with anything. I mean really what difference does this make? So what if a turkey is being killed behind her. I mean really isn't there anything else going on in this wide world????? Sorry if I offend anyone…I just needed to get this off my brain.

Gov.Palin bashing has become a sport of the main stream media.

It doesn't matter what Palin does; she will be atacked by the main stream media.

Gov.Palin said; "Certainly we'll probably invite criticism for even doing this, too" ; and she is right.

On the other hand ; Obama has a "love affair" with the main stream media and they will support and shield him.

Sherrie   November 21st, 2008 4:00 pm ET

BUT IT'S FUNNY!!! Even Palin supporters should be able to see the irony of the situation!! If you can't, then you really need to get a life!

And for people who made a fuss of how she's such a horrible person that she kills all sorts of animals…. congratulations… you just read WAY too much into the whole thing (and I'm being sarcastic here!)

IT'S FREAKING FUNNY!!! LEAVE IT AT THAT!! CHUCKLE AT THE IRONY, AND MOVE ON!!!

L.R.   November 21st, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Listen up people. GET OFF THIS WOMAN'S BACK! and that goes for the press too! We treat Alaska and the people there like they are from a foreign country. Alaska is part of the United States (for those of you who don't know geography, or take after Joe Biden and don't know U.S. History) Up in Alaska, people hunt for food to survive and feed their families, and for recreation. As for the way Sarah Palin talks, well I'm sure that is how they talk in Alaska. Criticizing her for how she lives and how she talks is completely unfair and cruel. I hope that none of you criticize someone just because they have an accent or a lifestyle different from yours. Sarah Palin deserves the same respect.
As for turkeys, I'm sure that some of you, if not all of you have heard of or went to a turkey farm to pick out a turkey for Thanksgiving. The people that work at these farms are just doing what everyone in the country is doing right now-provide for and support their families.

Anonymous   November 21st, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Stop the presses, news flash, our crack reporter has uncovered incontrovertible evidence that people eat meat. CNN's new motto. "We're here so you don't have to read US magazine anymore."

GP   November 21st, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Why didn't she just pardon a turkey at the capital? Whoever staged this event should probably start looking for another job. Might I suggest CEO of a major US corporation? Failing upwards has become the American way.

Perry   November 21st, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Give me a break all you Palin supporters. She is not a star or an icon!
Your workship and protection of her is pathetic. If you met her face to face she would not give you the time of day. Quit fantasizing about her and get a life! She is not like you, as much as you would like to think so! You know nothing about her but what the media has said and yet you protect her like…some religious relic or idol.

For all of the rational folks on this blog that make comments based on information from the media, magazines and newspapers. Know that the Palin folks are worshipers and thay will always claim that the media is biased and unfair, because their committment to this woman is based on FAITH only! She is second only to God right now. It would hurt to much for them to admitt that this woman is flawed!

Shawn S   November 21st, 2008 3:52 pm ET

This is what happens when people get too far removed from their food supply. Suddenly seeing how their food is prepared is in bad taste. If you can't handle seeing a turkey being killed then don't eat meat.

carmen   November 21st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

I am really disappointed with Grandma Palin. All this time, I thought that as a proud 'Merican she shot her own turkey up there in 'LASKA.

Linda Ness   November 21st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

OK…for her and the folks of her community this is no biggy. Her choice to be interviewed at a local slaughterhouse is certainly that; her choice. However what I find interesting is that her perspective is seemingly so completely local. To go national eventually I would imagine she will have to make a few changes to get the majority of national votes. In the mean time we get to see her on her own and make our own choices about who we want to eventually lead our nation. Not to mention it might not be all that necessary to see how the food gets to our tables. It's an entirely different piece of media coverage -in my opinion.

VETS4Obama   November 21st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Its not about turkeys getting killed for Thanksgiving, its about the irony of a moron who is "pardoning" a turkey and then has a press conference while they are killing the birds in the background! Completely clueless, tasteless and dim witted – just like everything else she does! The only thing we did not hear was her hatred and attempts to divide the country spewing out of her mouth!

To those that don't see the fun in watching this, let me spell it out as simple as possible.

1. The event was about pardoning a turkey.
2. Instead, the governor gets a backdrop of turkeys being killed.
3. Incongruity like that is the definition of irony. Irony is funny.

She was as always way too busy enjoying being the center of attention and clueless to what she sounds like and acts like. She just likes to hear herself talk and it is HER FAULT not the photogs, the media or anyone else that she winds up being the laughing stock of the Republican party! She has done several interviews since the election. She just likes to be in the media. She is just way too stupid to understand that every time she opens her mouth, she opens herself up to more criticism! No one made her take the photos and chat with the media – this was HER decision. it was also HER decision not to consider a different backdrop. She is just CLUELESS.

Everytime Sarah Palin opens her mouth I am amazed at how unprofessional and "almost stupid" she sounds. I do not use that term lightly. In fact, I don't use it at all. Please, GOP, if you read any of these comments, think very seriously about what kind of President this woman would be for our country. She makes a "so,so mayor," "okay governor," I guess, but I don't want an "ego chasing" dingbat as my President. Let's keep her in Alaska where she can kill her game and fire those individuals who get in her way.

George   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

What a complete moron!! Trying to ride the wave of popularity that only exists in her own mind. A 30% approval rating is not good…a significant drop from when she began. Another opportunity that should drop it further to where it should be. After all, Governor of the small population state does NOT qualify you for more than mayor of Wasilla.

David, Beaufort, SC   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

This is really priceless.
Let that scene seep in — grasp how incompetent, obtuse and stupid Sarah Palin and her supporting cast is.

A great big "Thank you !!" goes out to 64,000,000 + voters who understood what was on the line in 2008.

Ask John McCain "Why would you do this to our country?"

meme   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Okay, we all get the idea that meat is slaughtered then delivered to your neighborhood grocery store. HOWEVER, what government official does an interview while animals are being slaughtered in the background, and then asked if she wanted to move because of the slaughtering and says "oh no this is fine" . It's completely tasteless, and thoughtless. Gov. Palin is trash I'm sorry. She has a pregnant high school drop out, the baby daddy too, loves guzzling beer and slaughtering animals. I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo HAPPY she's not in the white house. What kind of female role model is she? This is no way to present yourself in front of the country..l.

SD   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Executive material, my as*. Now many presidents and politicians have choosen a turkey for Thanksgiving, and then just walked away. They didn't stand there while the turkey was being slaughtered. David Orbach, New York, NY   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

I agree with the poster who proposed a "Best of Palin" DVD. I'd pay good money for that.

Bob Pasquale   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Yes, it normally is no big deal……..but really………can this woman stay out of trouble for one day? She either does or says something weird every day.

Gene Wright   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

For all you poor people who think the turkey purchased in the supermarket and that you gorge on at the table didn't receive a similar fate, get a life. I hope it was her plan and she was insinuation "Quit treading on me" However I wouldn't be surprised if some liberal press guy paid to set this up. The libs are that low!

Lisa in NC   November 21st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

I'm surprised she didn't bring her children to watch.

Democrats, bookmark this story and keep the video in a secure location for those anti-Palin for President ads in 2012!

Anne   November 21st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

She is unimaginably stupid.

This is the best example of that fact yet!

Marshal   November 21st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

I see the point "Giver her a break" makes about the interviewer and the camera man. Clearly they were aware of the spectacle. Shouldn't someone from the Governor's entourage have noticed as well? Considering how important Sarah Palin might be to the Republican Party, wouldn't she make public appearances in the company of PR person who is paid to notice these things?

chuck   November 21st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

That's not a Turkey, that's John McCain!!!!

PragmaTexan   November 21st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Per usual the Repugs miss the point of the story.

If you're going to do a photo op of Governor Palin sparing the Thanksgiving Turkey, you don't have turkeys being slaugtered in the background!

We liberals know where turkeys at Thanksgiving come from; you don't flaunt it though!

Dave in NYC   November 21st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Gross AND oblivious.

Future of the GOP? No way.

Not unless the GOP wants to change to "third party status!"

Randy   November 21st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

People—she pardoned "a" turkey not all of them. The irony of "pardoning" of turkeys plays second fiddle once people get a grasp of reality and understand how their dinner is prepared. I CANNOT believe the media could be this petty. The fact that Palin agreed to the interview by saying "no worries" suggests she thought that the American people could handle and understand that she was in TURKEY FARM. Only the most hypersensitive and immature people would make this a big issue.

Barb B   November 21st, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Sarah Palin is an idiot!!! What makes her an idiot is she is standing there giving this inteview and speaking about how much fun it is to be there. OMG she is crazy!! I am so thankful this year that she is not our VP and McCain is not our President. We americans should all be thankful for that!!!

Judy   November 21st, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Get real people. The camera man choose that angle not Gov Palin. If you notice, what is going on is not behind her but off to the side. She was specifically shot at that angle on purpose. She does not have her back to what is going on and instead of a straight on, close up, what did they shoot. They included that turkey slaughter on purpose to make her look bad. Yes, turkeys die for Thanksgiving if you are shocked by that, Grow Up. But if you think she can tell from where she is standing what the camera is filming, you are creditting her with powers beyond eyes in the back of her head.

And more than one professional reporter has been caught on a stupid video show because of something dumb like this and they plan camera angles and shots for a living.

at   November 21st, 2008 3:42 pm ET

She is a disgust, i swear! I cannot look at her, such a cold and unhuman character! She kills animals for fun, why would she think twice for watching a turkey be killed. Please peole, we dont care for her, so cut the stories of her!

elliott   November 21st, 2008 3:42 pm ET

How about a video of babies being killed….anyone get upset about that….? That's what I thought.

Brenda   November 21st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

OMG is right! It's like Jethro behind her was wanting to wait until after the interview was over – so he just stands there – spittin' his chaw – and then someone yells at him to get back to work – and then he chops that first one. Is she really there to pick out her turkey for her family – i mean at the end, she says that she's responsible for the turkey and that's why she's there. Don't they have an Albertson's or something — or at least a store front adjacent to the turkey killing zone to buy them?

Jimmy   November 21st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

So if a democrat eats a turkey this Thanksgiving, they're complete and absolute hypocrites, why do you cover something so silly and useless as a Thanksgiving turkey story. Gobble gobble.

Jenny L.   November 21st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

For all you idiots that posted earlier and feel a need to remind us where our food comes from – guess what – we know…that's not the issue, the issue is she's an idiot…plain and simple. Even a politian with a BRAIN would KNOW that what was happening behind her was SUICIDE for her politically. For those that don't have an issue seeing helpless animals have their head cut off and bleed out – you're SICK!!!!! You're right – go back to Alaska…have fun living in the 19th century.

nin6   November 21st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

I actually think it's great that this video is getting so much attention and I hope a lot of children get to see it too. that way they will actually know how the turkeys died. I think if the world were shown more of these clips e.g. the slaughtering of cows, how goose liver pate is made, where veal comes from etc etc I'm sure we'd have more vegetarians and vegans roaming the planet.

Jack Henry   November 21st, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Where do you think Thanksgiving turkeys come from? Are you blaming Palin for the fact that Americans eat Thanksgiving turkey? They're being killed by the thousands as we write. Just because you usually can't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening. Grow up.

Marie   November 21st, 2008 3:40 pm ET

The best part is the guy mugging for the camera's and bloody pants…………..OMG…………This is rich…………..She hasn't a clue of what it takes to be a VP or god forbid PRES…….She should know that the lower 48 states politician's know how to set up a photo op. Pardon turkey's that's fine but hearing them scream and seeing them killed is another…..She is use to seeing blood guts and gore from killed animals that is why she is drinking coffee and smiling………CLUELESS………

Demo Joe   November 21st, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Matthew: You are the only one who gets it! It's a week before Thanksgiving and people do eat turkeys!

How do you think we get those turkeys? They have to be slaughtered. And, where was Sarah Palin being interviewed – where turkeys are being slaughtered so that WE can eat them on Thanksgiving! What hypocrites you people are! You sit there and eat turkey and forget they have to be slaughtered! Then condemn this woman!

Get over it and leave this woman alone!

Rita   November 21st, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Are you, the media, so afraid of Sarah Palin that you have to run this sill, derogatory story even after the election is over? Having said that, why in the world would she allow this event to be photographed and filmed where you could see the birds being killed? Its not like we dont know that is what happens, but this was such a bad choice.

Hi Paul who wrote:

"so what's the story here…big deal a turkey died…how about some real nws…we don't hear much on Iraq these days…I don't suppose it has anything to do with the fact that we are winning now?!"

So if we are winning, who are the losers?

You people need a life   November 21st, 2008 3:38 pm ET

You people need to get a life and/or a hobby. Why don' t you go vent about your savings? If you need an subject matter to harp on…here's one: Why arent' Bush and Obama saying anything about our stock market performance? Oh wait, let's talk about how turkeys are killed.

Eric   November 21st, 2008 3:37 pm ET

It's funny to me that this is even considered a news worthy story. How many people on this site making comments are going to eat turkey this holiday season. How do you think it gets to the store? Maybe if we could concentrate on the economy and foregin affairs as much as people concentrating on looking for the latest Palin slip up we could get out of some of the issues we are facing that are news worthy.

Shawn in Amishland   November 21st, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Uh, yeah…That's how it works on a turkey farm. A turkey is slaughtered, and then we eat it! What's the big issue here? It's crazy how soft our country has become. People are far to removed from reality today if this is a news worthy story…

Greenanarchist   November 21st, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Dear God could I hate this useless bag anymore? They should put her, and all the other useless hillbillies in Alaska under the same ax that killed the turkey. Better yet, let's give the whole state to Canada with the understanding that they get the oil, but they also have to keep all the idiots that live there.

JLS   November 21st, 2008 3:37 pm ET

too bad they were'nt chopping off obamas head in the background,

Lyle   November 21st, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Sarah Palin is more aware than the majority of Americans. Yes, turkeys are slaughtered because humans have to eat. But why are millions of human babies slaughtered each year through abortion? Why are Americans less disturbed by abortion than they are by the slaughter of animals for food? Sarah Palin has more respect for life than many.

K   November 21st, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Maybe it's not a pretty sight, but where do you people think the turkey and ham you buy in the store come from? Little fairies drop them from turkey and ham heaven? Get a grip, people! Thankfully, you all didn't live back in the pioneer days in this country…

And one more thing, why do people insist on focusing on her dialect when she speaks? Have you never heard the accent before? And why do you hammer her, yet hang on every mis-spoken word by every "beloved" rap artist and ghetto rat? I'm just axing…

Fred Phelps   November 21st, 2008 3:36 pm ET

What is your point? As I am sending this email a turkey is dying somewhere, and I do prefer to eat turkeys dead instead of alive. Happy Thanksgiving and MERRY , MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL.

Sandy   November 21st, 2008 3:36 pm ET

This is the most discusting thing I think I have ever seen! I will never look at my plate of turkey the same again. OMG !!!!!!!!

The Artful Dodger   November 21st, 2008 3:36 pm ET

This makes me think of a new phrase: That is SO Palin! Next time my wife kicks the cat, I'll say, "That is so Palin."

Sue   November 21st, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Dear God, we are eternally grateful to you for not letting this turkey of a bimbo become our VP. Please continue to watch over us and NOT let her come anywhere near Washington. Amen.

Kyle   November 21st, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Paul, what exactly do you call "winning
in Iraq??? Only 10 dead GI's in the month instead of 20…don't be a fool

Lucy   November 21st, 2008 3:35 pm ET

I don't think Palin was aware that a turkey was being slaughtered behind her, but the person who operated the camera knew it. I'm sure someone reviewed the film before it aired. I saw it and I was totally turned off by the scene and I don't appreciate the news showing that just days before Thanksgiving. I know that people eat meat all the time but we don't want to see someone fighting with the animal while trying to stuff it into a funnel to chop it's head off. Seeing the animal fight for it's life is a scene that's embedded in my brain and I won't be eating turkey for Thanksgiving this year.

Anonymous   November 21st, 2008 3:35 pm ET

"I am always in charge of the turkey so I am where I need to be today to prepare for that," she also said.

What does it mean?! Each word separately has a meaning but together they do not form any coherent thought at all.
I realized that Palin is in charge of turkeys when I watched her rallies. Could she mean that?

Tim in Tx   November 21st, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I find it odd that the same people who accuse Republicans of making up nonsense and trying to scare the electorate about Obama, now employ the same pratices they claim to deplore. "Our earth would blow up"? "Al Queda licking their lip"? "She's an idiot"? Do you read this crap before you send it? New Media, can we move to more pressing issues? PLEASE?

Andy   November 21st, 2008 3:34 pm ET

pleeeease make her go away.

Annie   November 21st, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Does anyone have a clue to what she is saying? I start out listening to the first half of her sentence and by the second half, I am completely lost. Seeing her words printed out actually makes it worse. She speaks PALINSH!!
Could someone please buy her a pronoun, a comma and a period!!
There was a reason why the press did not have access to her. The more I hear her speak, the more I understand why McCain's crew kept her away.
That said, I am begining to feel sorry for her. I think she needs a really good publicist.

rene   November 21st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

She could have picked a better back drop.

I understand that this is the "turkey" process but the interview wasn't about "the preparation before the preparation of your turkey dinner show!"

She had to know and she even stated that she would get her knew critics to chat…perhaps she should lay low and really work on her image.

I have empathy for her. However, if you are going to jump in front of the media be prepared for conflicting views.

Stupefied   November 21st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Wow…. this is news…?

News flash: in order to be eaten turkeys die.

Monica   November 21st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I hope everyone here who's criticizing Palin in this video is a vegetarian, otherwise you're a big hypocrite. Where do you think those turkeys wrapped in plastic at the grocery store come from?

Susan   November 21st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

America – we REALLY missed the bullet on this one. Thank you 'higher power'.

Theresa   November 21st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

This story is so absolutely ridiculous. Are we truly going to waste our time on stories like this or are we going to focus on real news? By the way, Alaska is the only state recession proof. I think she must do a pretty good job running her state and I don't think she is as dumb as the media makes her out to be.

jeff   November 21st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

This isn't news.

Oregonian   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

I hope all of you who are criticizing Gov. Palin over this are not eating turkey for Thanksgiving. Let's stop the hypocrism!

colleen   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

You know, the other candidates for national office were vetted for two years, while S Palin came out of nowhere. Sure, she's attractive, has an in-your-face kind of attitude, seemed to be in command of herself, but the more we see of her, the more I suspect she is less-than-intelligent.

I mean: how does one not consider the effects of "Slaughterhouse 5″ going on just behind her. I was incredulous, as the unsuspecting turkey was pressed down into the guillotine-like mechanism and she blithely commented, "I'm where I need to be."

Yes, we all know these birds are killed for our Thanksgiving dinners, but one would think she could at least be aware that it just seems unseemly to blithely go about an interview with such carnage in the background.

The more I see of her and know her in different venues, the more I realize we dodged a real bullet there; the turkeys wouldn't be the only victims if she'd prevailed.

Aymz   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

This is another example of Mrs. Palin not knowing what is going on around her.

betsy   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Ok, I am absolutely NOT a Palin fan, but for heaven's sake………are people NOT aware that 'turkey pardoning' is as much a political tradition as tree lighting, egg rolling, and baby kissing? Here's how it works, folks…..TWO turkeys are presented. The politician picks ONE for a pardon. Yes, it's a photo opp…..like GROUNDHOG DAY! Please be aware that this is not just an Alaskan tradition. Did you read the article about the two boys from Ellsworth, IA, staying in a hotel in DC with THEIR two turkeys, waiting for the presidential pardon of one of them? (And lest I be accused of speaking Palinese, I wish to clarify that the TURKEYS are the ones vying for the pardon, and not the boys.)

Furthermore, it doesn't hurt anyone to become a little more aware of where our food comes from. Call it a history lesson, if you will. After all, the Pilgrims didn't get THEIR bird at the local Piggly Wiggly store!

Tina   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

What's so odd to me is that she has a cup of coffee in her hand while in the background you can hear the turkeys screaming……….WOW…..I mean she is supposed to be a seasoned politican……..Photo Ops are part of being a good politician………..And what's with the hair…..seems she needs that 20k hair dresser……………………Give it up Palin….seriously…………

rightytighty   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

383 un-liberally monitored comments. Proving once again that Palin can still draw a bigger crowd than Obama…

For all you clowns worried about the turkeys … what about the big turkey in Chicago who's gone mute since the election?

Scott Tucson   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

One can look at the scene behind Sara Palin as sort of an metaphor in that, what the farmer is doing to those turkeys is what Obama is doing to his faithful CHANGE believing supporters.

Adrian   November 21st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

People please, some of you probably think beef comes from the ground. I guess turkey came from a tree before this to some people, how pathetic.

Typical example of the drive-by-media. Lay off of Palin, you guys are so pathetic. Like you never ate turkey before? Meanwhile the recent zigby poll shows how ignorant and ill informed the voters are expecially obama supporter who dont even know who controls congress of who the majority leader and speaker is.. You guys in the media have completely failed the public. How about spending you time more wisely.

She doesn't seem to be very aware of ANYTHING around her in the whole world. Concern for people who might be sensitive to slaughter, besides sound political judgement, would have dictated a different place for the interview. Talk about a turkey!

Wilma Jahn   November 21st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Well, Sarah PAAINN is at it again…Guess she must have field-dressed that poor unfortunate turkey being beheaded, and had it on the "BARBIE" by 6 PM, it's a wonder she didn't decapitate it herself, she loves KILLING ANIMALS of any kind !!!!

The problem IS, no one's found a way to get rid of that other stupid turkey……………… the one giving the speach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Debbie   November 21st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

There are a lot of things that we know are happening — kind of like soldiers being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, yet the president won't allow pictures to be taken of the caskets.
Maybe it would have been better for this woman, who few people respect, to show some sensitivity. There are people who actually feel emotions when they see animals killed. I know, how weird. What if it was a horse being slaughtered for dog food? Is that something Republicans like to watch on the news with their kids as well?
What is it with conservatives? A little bloodthirsty?

CNN :)   November 21st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

The only thing I can figure is that you liberal pin-heads are so afraid of "Sarah Palin 2012″ that you feel like you must keep reporting what you see as negative "non-stories" about her.

———————————————————————————————-

Actually you have it all wrong.

1) I think most liberals would welcome a Palin run in 2012 with open arms.

2) I, along with what looks like the vast majority of Dems in here, really wish that we never had to read another thing about her.

Sally from Cali   November 21st, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I would like to reply to J about democrats being full of hate, First of all if it wasn't for you REPUBLICANS we wouldn't be this mess that we are in. So you can say that democrats are full of hate because you REPUBLICANS don't know what to do when they are in the WHITE HOUSE and if don't believe me then ask BUSH! And then on top of that The Republicans be stealing everything they can get. Ask Cheney about that $ 1 billion dollar contract that YOUR REPUB President gave to him. And Tell me that ain't stealing from the country, i don't say, so i think you should back about Democrats being full hate, cause stealing from your country is not showing ANY LOVE 4 Your COUNTRY!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! OBAMA IS MY PRESIDENT!!

Paulash   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I don't know why Fox doesn't give this girl her own show… "Pallin around with Palin"? Who wouldn't watch that? The first episode… She can demonstrate how she keeps an eye on Putin. The second one, she can field dress a moose. Third, shopping at her favorite consignment shop in Alaska. The possibilities are absolutely endless.

R   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Listen, we know how turkeys get to the supermarkets. The fact is that guy did not have to do that while she was there and while she was there and cameras were rolling. Can't she or her people control anything? I don't even like her but I'm totally pissed that they guy had to kill that turkey right then.

Terry in NY   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

So where do you think that Turkey on your table comes from duh? Typical media show anything to get a story.

Sara from Arizona   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Some of you people are just so nasty. CNN, what is the point of this non-story???????? People are just jealous of this very popular Governor.

PALIN IS A MOTOR MOUTH AND HAVE NO SENSE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND THEM, JUST KEEP THEIR MOTOR RUNNING.

Invictus Maneo   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

My, My. Reality seems to offend the gentle Liberals senses!

You want wood to build your homes but you don't want to look at logged off hillsides. You want light weight, water and wind resistent synthetic clothing and carbon composites but you don't want the oil wells or pipelines or refineries that produce those synthetics. You want electricity but you don't want the power plant or the wind mills or the solar collectors or the power lines in your neighbohood. You want turkey on the Thanksgiving table but you don't want to see how it gets there.

You want to spout snarky comments but you don't want to work. You want rights but you don't want responsibilities. You want more while contributing less.

As the ecObamanomic depression drives deeper into the USA and world economies and your 401Ks become 201Ks, remember THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED. YOU WANTED A RADICAL SOCIALIST FOR PRESIDENT. THE MARKETS ARE JUST ACKNOWLEDGING YOUR WANTS.

Stymie   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I just started checking out this blog. I'm taken aback by how the vast majority of participants have the same point-of-view (bascially "Palin's stupid" and other variations).

I'm wondering… are there any political and current events blogs in existence that are visited by "normal" people? Normal in the sense that one particular slanted point-of-view is not so dominant (this one fails the test miserably).

There are pros and cons to Palin. Reasonable and rational people would see this.

John   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

So how do folks think turkeys get on their table? Someone has to kill them first. Geez.

Happy Thanksgiving   November 21st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I personally think this story is hilarious, and the fact that people (on both sides) are getting upset about it is also making me crack up. The story is comical and unique, which is why it is newsworthy. For those drama queens whining about the other important stories–it took CNN about 2 minutes to write this, it's not that big of a deal. It's not stealing time from other important issues, it's just a funny piece.

For those Palin-lovers that are mad about the media portraying her as "unaware" and giving her a hard time, lighten up! Take a step back from politics and realize that it's just plain funny to be pardoning a turkey while another is being slaughtered behind you. With things the way they are right now it's important to take time to have a sense of humor–it is good to laugh now and then.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Brandon   November 21st, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Get Over it. You think the Turkey you buy at walmart was made ready for you to pop into the oven? LOL I don't care for Palin, but this is the stupidest article I have ever read on CNN.

irene   November 21st, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Please go away Palin. You are an unfortunate accident. You can't even do a fluff piece without incident.

Dan   November 21st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

If you eat meat, then STFU and ake TFU people–this is what they have to do to get it on your plate. If you don't like it, then too bad, because an animal has to die every time you eat your meat. You might want to think first whether eating animals is entirely necessary. I respect more the hunter than the meat eater who has no idea what it takes to put meat on the plate. Wake up from your dreams people. HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of animals die each year so you can be satiated. It's amazing the hypocrisy in this country. As long as animals are slaughtered for our pleasure, it doesn't seem to me we have the moral high ground on what animal cruelty really is.

David Grim, Beaufort, SC   November 21st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

This is really priceless.
Let that scene seep in — grasp how awful, incompetent, hypocritical, stupid and obtuse Sarah Palin and her supporting cast is.

A great big "Thank you !!" goes out to 64,000,000 + voters who understood what was on the line in 2008.

Adam   November 21st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Okay, this is a new low in stupid news stories. Palin is a looney toon, but how on earth is it her fault that a turkey is being slaughtered for Thanksgiving in the back ground? Over 90% of Americans eat turkey on TG, and this is the reality of it folks. If you can't cope with that, then become a vegetarian, but don't bully Palin about it. There are far too many legitimate reason to bully Palin.

Xitillia   November 21st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

WOW! In reading these comments I must be in the presence of frigg'n geniuses… And once Obama's economic brain child takes hold, eating Turkey will be a luxury. Hope you all enjoy Mac n Cheese!

Have any of you heard barry O without a teleprompter??
"I uh uh uh I uh uh change, er uh er uh ah eu change, uh uh uh spread the wealth around, uh, uh, uh…….."

Palin would have been great for this county,
-small gov't
-small taxes
-big military
-self reliance
-loves America

Barry O is the opposite everything just listed–congratulations America-the socialist has arrived!!

Dwayne   November 21st, 2008 3:25 pm ET

It just shows you how rediculous and political it is to pardon the Turkey. We know millions of turkeys are in store freezers for Thanksgiving. The pardon is just for show. I'm sure Gov. Palin will be having turkey on Thanksgiving too. I thought it was a great clip. Why can't we get honest and in sync with the majority of Americans and say goodbye to the turkey on TV instead of pardoning the turkey.

paul   November 21st, 2008 3:25 pm ET

so what's the story here…big deal a turkey died…how about some real nws…we don't hear much on Iraq these days…I don't suppose it has anything to do with the fact that we are winning now?!

Steve   November 21st, 2008 3:24 pm ET

You palin haterz are all idiots and seriously delusional. You would really think that this woman is so clueless as to not know she's in an effin' turkey farm? This woman is highly intelligent and very down to earth and real, which is more than i can say for most of the people commenting on this article and the media reporters themselves! I dont know how things are in the lower 48's world, but in AK, killin' animals is a matter of survival. It really doesnt generate any headlines when a stupid Turkey is killed for thanksgiving 'round these parts, television or not. Then again, the people in the lower 48 have no clue what it means to live in alaska. S*** they're lucky if they even knew the place is one of the 50 states of America. Thats right… USA has 50 states!! not 49. Count the stars on the flag if you dont believe me. They have an effin' Super Wal*Mart on every corner in the 48. I wonder what these people tell their children when they ask where their food came from? God must reach down from heaven and place their already prepared meals on the table for them or something geeze!! Life must be nice! And honestly, ya'll dont even know what life is like outside of those cemented cities, paved roads, and heated homes, so dont comment like ya do!
Ding! Fries are done!!

i think this turkey thing is humorous, its just like the election only the turkey then was poor old john mccain.

palinlvr   November 21st, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Todd (indianapolis)   November 21st, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Aww..come on people. just laugh! The whole scene is just funny. Sure, there a more critical things going on in the country right now, but let us be thankful as Americans that there are other things to talk about besides the trivial. There is so much out there to frown at, just use these precious moments to laugh when you can. We have had eight years of pain and uncertainty. Now is the time to embrace each and every day and pray in hopes for a better tomorrow. For some of us tomorrow may never come. So I beg everyone to enjoy everday while you can. Look around the world, things here could be alot worse. Consider all who, including myself, can afford the time to use resources like the internet, to comment on the ridiculous very fortunate. We all have food on our tables, and clothes on our back. We are lucky no matter how you look at it. So laugh, play, and enjoy each moment, and hope that we as a country make and have made the right decisions for the world, our country, our kids, and the future. Remember: "Our destiny has no more certainty than leaves drifting in the wind. We are all subject to subtle changes that could alter our life patterns at any moment". Love what you hold dear, laugh when u can, fight for what you believe, and adapt when the situation calls for it.

Wanda   November 21st, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Why are there so many angry people in this country? You think you have it bad, go live where there are problems with just getting water and a morsel of food, if that. I like Sarah Palen, so why don't we talk about all your wives and girlfriends like this, have some respect. Some people have no turkey to eat and would love to have anything at all. Go help somebody and get off the net.

Bryan   November 21st, 2008 3:22 pm ET

FYI folks: Don't blame CNN for reporting this. This story is on all the major news sites, including FoxNews.

Personally, I think it's hilarious. If you don't want to read this "non-news" story, then don't.

We're lucky America! She's not going to be our VP! Woo Hoo!

Jules   November 21st, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I'm sorry which one is the turkey on the tv? It's a little confusing.

Anyone who says this woman has political instincts needs to be shown this video.

I was so distracted by the guy killing the turkey in the back, I almost missed her murdering the english language. AKA Gov of the run on sentences… sheesh.

What a gem she is, I hope she doesn't something silly every day.

Roger   November 21st, 2008 3:22 pm ET

1. This is a HILARIOUS moment! I would find it hilarious if it happened to any politician, but the fact that it happened to a prominent figure like Sarah Palin just amplifies the hilarity.

2. For those who would take this opportunity to engage in some liberal-bashing, give me a break. Are you guys so tied down to your tired anti-liberal rhetoric that you can't find this video clip funny at all? I'm no liberal myself, but you people are just acting childish.

Matt   November 21st, 2008 3:22 pm ET

———————————————————————————————–

I'm going to guess that you are either 10 years old or your IQ is less than 90. And I don't see what this would have to do with being a liberal. There are conservative people out there that believe in animal rights.

The way this was displayed is NOT a humane way of killing a turkey.

I could care less what's going on behind her. She could be in front of a mall, or church for all I care. All that I can see, is she comes off like a clueless, twit moron that makes President Bush look like a MENSA member. If she was blonde, she would give Paris and Britney a bad image. The dead turkeys are brighter.

How much you want to bet that this will end up as another skit on SNL? While she's still in the news SNL will always have material. God what a bad joke she turned out to be. She will go down as the lamest most ridiculed politician ever and it's all her own fault. She won't be eating much turkey as her mouth is full of foot!!

Matt   November 21st, 2008 3:19 pm ET

@ "CNN :) "

If you think that a Palin article getting the most posts, 90%+ of which are making fun of her, indicates that she's not "done" then there simply is no help for you. She has ZERO chance of getting elected in 2012. Learn the difference between fame and infamy.

The people who criticize the slaughtering of Turkeys are pathetic. People eat meat every day. Where do you think the meat comes from. I worked at a hog slaughtering plant for seven years and watched 11,000 hogs get dismatled every day. The American people better get in touch with reality. The economy is rapidly deteriorating to levels not seen since the Great Depression. The U.S. military is nearly broken. The danger to America's security from terrorists and foreign powers are greater today than anytime since WWII. Where is our President? Why isn't the press paying more attention to these issues? This story is a waste of time!!!

Well said!

SJC   November 21st, 2008 3:19 pm ET

To LiberalsHateAmerica,

An economic genius I see. Nevermind GM or Citigroup. It's Obama's fault the market's tanking. It's simple minded people who get their news and information from Rush and Fox news who spout to this garbage.

And as far as Liberals hating America:

Why do conservatives complain about the the peace and prosperity of the Clinton years?

Why do conservative relish in a needless war that has killed 4100 and wounded 35,000 Americans?

Why do conservatives approve of a president who has presided over economic disaster?

Why are conservatives content with having bin Laden still free after 9/11?

And my last question is why do conservatives hate America?

Anyone made uncomfortable by seeing a turkey being prepared for market had better be a vegan or get in line for the major hypocrite award.
Gov. Palin deals with the reality of life and speaks the truth as she sees it. That makes the typical urban elitist who's only knowledge of the world is what is spoon fed to them by their fellow media dweebs or plastic wrapped for them in the supermarket very uneasy. Rather than deal with the logic of what she says, they simply trash talk her.

She says she's in charge of her Thanksgiving dinner and that's why she is at that business. It would have been better to pardon the turkey at an official ceremony, not at the excution site.

Jerry   November 21st, 2008 3:15 pm ET

It isn't the point that most people eat turkey, yes we get it, they have to be slaughtered to get to the store and ultimately to the consumer. The point is how many politicians or even people in general have done interviews with this going on in the background?
This is an extreme example but do you think Bush would ever do an interview while American flag draped coffins are being unloaded from a military plane behind him?
The point is that the women is a dolt.

g   November 21st, 2008 3:15 pm ET

I'd like to compliment CNN for quoting Ms. Palin with the exact terminology that rolls off her tongue.

I know why this is done – and as a journalist I know how many times we smooth certain sections of an interview to make it balance between conversational and something a reader can follow.

In her case, however, it needs to be written exactly as she speaks it. Thanks for that. It's great strategery.

The world has gone nuts   November 21st, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Geez Folks, where do you think those frozen turkeys at your grocery store come from?

Phyllis Dosch   November 21st, 2008 3:15 pm ET

I'm tired of Sarah Palin. Forget about her and move on. I'm just so relieved that we no longer have to fear her becoming president, at least for 4 or perhaps 8 years! Move on to the real news, PLEASE!

Logan   November 21st, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Johnny C

You are dumbfounded that people are angry and displeased with this woman. She is a joke. Sarah Palin is a monster created by the RNC and they are paying for it. We as Americans should speak out much more against this type of "no nothing" politics. I commend people for voicing their opinion on the matter and on Nov. 4th the people spoke and said "we will not stand for it anymore.

John   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Give the lady a break already….she's no longer even part of the national conversation…what is the media's obsession with her…Get over her people and worry about the millions of jobs being lost and the state of our economy…I'm sick of the media wasting our time with useless, pointless stories that have no relevance to our nation's future.

GET A LIFE!

Eric   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Why don't you go and do something useful with your ablities, Governor…What a waste of time and resources…Probably using campaign funds and taxpayer money for your little turkey trip.

KG   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I love listening to the liberal Dems bash Palin. Ooohh, she could have been our next VP…..guess what? You got Biden. Remember him? He's the guy that thinks FDR got on the TV in 1929 during the stock market crash. You know, the guy that thinks FDR was Pres in 1929 and we had TVs then as well. Oh yeh, and he's the guy that got forced down in his helicopter by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Come to find out, it was a snowstorm (even John Kerry corrected him on that). Did see him a whole lot during the last few weeks of the election. Why? Because Obama figured out he was a walking, talking, moron. Now what do we have? A novice for Pres that wants to raise taxes on major investors and businesses so he can destroy what's left of our economy and a moron that is a heartbeat away from taking over his job. Confidence abounds……..

Bob   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Why wasn't she out pardoning black people?

Evil woman.

puente0629   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

What an idiot…And you wanted her for VP. She can't even be aware on what's going on around her!!

Los   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

This could happen to anyone, but it's not the sort of thing you want happening to you if you want to be president and 43% of the population already has a negative opinion of you.

Nan   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Poor choice of backdrop but most people will eat turkey on Thanksgiving. This is the reality of how it gets to the store. What bothers me is that she makes no sense when she speaks. This is not the first time. When she is not scripted she talks in circles and makes no sense.

Gary   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I see two dead turkeys. One literally, the other figuratively.

Matt   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Nothing implied about it. She's borderline neanderthal and brought it all upon herself by being a nasty, lying, uninformed little fascist when running for our nations No. 2 leadership spot. Don't like it? Write her a letter and tell her to get out of public office and hide.

Carl from MI   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Can this woman possibly doing anything that is more STOOPID than this (and yes, I spelled stupid with TWO "O"'s because she's just that dumb!)?

We've just had 8 years of STOOPID in the White House… now it's time to see what intelligent people will do in the next 4-8 years.

This lady is on the same level as Beavis and Butthead!!

Good BYE Palin   November 21st, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Enough Already…….The hell with this Woman ….keep her out of the News !!!!

Niesy   November 21st, 2008 3:13 pm ET

And this is a woman that people thought was "smart" enough to be a Vice President?? I feel sorry for her and everyone that voted for McCain/Palin..the "hockey mom" …really sad!!!

todd   November 21st, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Interesting to hear, based on the sound bytes, how she is as a speaker without the McCain aides telling her what to say. If those two would have been elected, Government would have had to grow significantly just to hire all of the people whose job it was to tell her what to say and how to say it. Her vocabulary and enunciation of the English language is simply atrocious. Regardless of the scene behind her, she didn't plan that, she's going to have to spend a lot of time in the off season to prepare for her run in 2012. First thing this college educated person ought to do is take English 101.

No McCain!   November 21st, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Wow… slow news day, huh? Leave her alone!

I do not like her but this is pathetic!

::sarcasm off::

Seriously, Governor… your 15 minutes is over. Although I do so love how some folks on here are seemingly blaming President-Elect Obama for the declining economy when he hasn't even been sworn in yet… all the while lambasting the rest of us who continue to poke fun at someone who continues to put HERSELF in the most awkward of situations, despite the fact that her moment in the spotlight is long over.

We eat turkey, but can not show how we get there. All these remarks from people hiding from reality, putting their head in the sand.

Sarah is more real than any one of them. I guess that is why that do not like her. Kind of like the people who all said the emperor's clothes were so fine, when he had none. She lives life for real. I hope she does run in 2012. She has my vote!

Georgia Gal   November 21st, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Granted it's not really her fault, but I tell you, one of her staff (who I would think would've been there) should have noticed this was going on and stopped it.

That said, I started watching the video and had to immediately turn it off. I may not be eating turkey next week after all.

Mike, Cleveland, Ohio   November 21st, 2008 3:10 pm ET

People who blame the press for this so called interview are completely ignorant of the fact that it is Palin's choice of where and when to interview. Before the camera was rolling she could have asked to change the venue. This just solidifies the view in America that Palin is not the intelligent person she professes to be, whether it is right or wrong.

Paisley   November 21st, 2008 3:10 pm ET

What is with the elitism regarding speech? Sarah Palin talks in the local vernacular and she is easily understood. Must we all sound like Harvard or Yale graduates? So I noticed no one made fun of Obama when he addressed black crowds by imitating the local vernacular or when he talks in circles in any vernacular.

I reluctantly agree with those who say leave her alone. She only wants attention–be it positive or negative. To keep talking about her, only justifies her political existence. I her eyes, the worst thing people could do would be to turn their backs and shut up.

It's amazing that all of these liberals come out of the woodwork and attack anyone they can when the press is finally starting to report that Obama is already failing. His staff has been at work for days trying to minimize expectations after realizing that most of the campaign promises were lies, and the more Obama fails, the more the Republicans will be blamed.

-Reagan didn't blame Carter when he had to come in and fix the mess—he just fixed it.

Peter Austin, TX   November 21st, 2008 3:06 pm ET

The people who criticize the slaughtering of Turkeys are pathetic. People eat meat every day. Where do you think the meat comes from. I worked at a hog slaughtering plant for seven years and watched 11,000 hogs get dismatled every day. The American people better get in touch with reality. The economy is rapidly deteriorating to levels not seen since the Great Depression. The U.S. military is nearly broken. The danger to America's security from terrorists and foreign powers are greater today than anytime since WWII. Where is our President? Why isn't the press paying more attention to these issues? This story is a waste of time!!!

Steven   November 21st, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Sarah Palin Unaware!?!? Who would've thunk it!!!! Isn't her 15 minutes over?

M.H.   November 21st, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Palin is soooooooooo unaware of EVERYTHING around her. I swear I think she is from Mars. If I don't have to hear that screechy voice of hers again, I think I can recover from Palinmania. Thank God it was a brief run. Whew.

Sandy   November 21st, 2008 3:06 pm ET

People aren't upset that turkeys were being prepared for consumption. The problem is that it made her look like a backwoods hick especially with the guy mugging for the camera in the background. Surely she could have had the photo op set up somewhere else beside a bloody basin.

CNN :)   November 21st, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Hey "Obama 08″
If it's so over for her, why is it that every story about her gets more interest than any other story that day???? Why did you comment on this story??? WHY IS SHE BEING OFFERED 7 MILLION DOLLARS FOR A BOOK DEAL?????? Over????? I hardly think so..

She's like Reagan…people first thought he was stupid, tried to write him off…..then what happened????

Zachery   November 21st, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Governors and U.S. Presidents pardon turkeys all the time; that is nothing new. What is new, however, is having someone pardon a turkey while other turkeys in view are being slaughtered. Sarah needs to do a better job in controling her photo opportunities. They have become a laughing stock for most Americans. She could have at least ask them to stop while she gave the interview or move away so that the camera does not capture the killing of turkeys in the background.

Vic   November 21st, 2008 3:05 pm ET

For God's sake, get off this woman's back and let her govern her State of Alaska! MSNBC's Chris Matthews criticized her loudly for her use of the word GODDDDD….(his emphasis) in an interview, and for the past several nights it's become clear that David Letterman couldn't have a show were it not for his invoking Mrs. Palin's name and talking about her sex appeal. Then almost every blog is critical of her. Why is this? I simply didn't find her that different from all the other political operatives and certainly don't find the turkey business worthy of a separate blog piece. So I would welcome a respite from stories about her, and just wish for this very attractive woman and her family a Happy Thanksgiving. Period!!!

joel   November 21st, 2008 3:05 pm ET

I can't stand Palin anymore than the next guy. I wish she would just go away. That said, you can't fault her for this… turkey's are food. People who eat turkey on thanksgiving (or meat on any day of the year) need to face the facts that they are a food source. She grew up in Alaska, what do you expect.

Unshrub   November 21st, 2008 3:05 pm ET

What do people think happens to the turkey they eat? If you eat meat, shut up. Although she was an idiot to have the turkey killed behind her when she was on camera. But I don't remember too many people trying to claim Palin being the smartest trukey in the group.

perplexed in Denver   November 21st, 2008 3:05 pm ET

hhhmmmmmm…. a turkey being slaughtered….at a turkey slaughter-house…. just before Thanksgiving. Most of us will have a big, dead, honkin' turkey on our tables next Thursday…

And this is news…. why?

Little wonder America is on a downward spiral.

sasha   November 21st, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Well, where do they think the Thanksgiving turkey comes from? This is a good wake up call to those who might think the plucked and packaged bird they defrost "comes that way." This bird in the photo obviously was once a beautiful creature with fantastic plumage. Get a grip. This is a big country, and there are millions of turkeys being eaten on Thanksgiving Day. That's a lot of feathers left behind.

Kim J   November 21st, 2008 3:04 pm ET

You are a bunch of mean people. This is an interview a local TV station did. It is the job of the producer and cameraman to shoot this, not her media people.

Obama gives Cupcakes to Biden…you whiny liberals claim that Bush would never do that…or that the republicans wouldn't do it because they hoard money…or that it's nice to see "friends" in the White House. I'm willing to bet, Mr. President-Elect never gave Biden cupcakes before 2008, for his birthday…publicity stunt 101.

Turkey is slaughtered behind Palin…same whiny liberals find another way to cut down the GOP with pointless, immature, hate-filled comments.

BTW for you less intelligent folks that didnt get it- this not a CNN story and it is on all websites even FOXNEWS as a big story because most people can easily see the irony of it. You guys who believe people are grossed out from the slaughter are not as smart as a 5th grader and now I can see why some peeps voted McCain-Palin. Congratulations- you are the 40 percentile and below in America!

Ken in Dallas   November 21st, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Good grief, people.

First of all, CNN wasn't running the camera.

The cameraman actually asked her if she wanted to be interviewed against that backdrop. She replied, "No worries."

Whether or not people are unreasonably squeamish about it, you just don't see animals being slaughtered on TV because people find such images offensive.

Sarah was completely oblivious to the aesthetics of the scene. She was in control, and chose to be interviewed against that backdrop, so it's entirely fair to find her responsible for the way it turned out.

CNN :)   November 21st, 2008 3:03 pm ET

D   November 21st, 2008 3:02 pm ET

The only thing I can figure is that you liberal pin-heads are so afraid of "Sarah Palin 2012″ that you feel like you must keep reporting what you see as negative "non-stories" about her. why are you so scared? Is not the world going to be better now that we have an "Obamanation?

Bryan   November 21st, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Some folks here aren't well informed:

The camera crew was not from CNN, it was from a local station KTUU-TV .

Also, Palin was informed by the station videographer what was going on behind her, but she continued yacking. Remember: she's "pro-life", except when it comes to shooting, killing, and slaughtering animals.

Once that camera light is on, she's the center of the universe and doesn't care about anything else but herself. Thank God she's back in Alaska and not in Washington!

Bill Lenahan   November 21st, 2008 3:01 pm ET

This should not be an item of interest. Where do you think food comes from? Is the media so disconnected from reality that this is a news worthy event?

CNN :)   November 21st, 2008 3:01 pm ET

It is the responsiblity of the press to have voters make truly informed decisions on who they vote for. This article is just an example of the level of depth the press feels the public can handle. No matter who anyone votes for, it is important to make that vote truly count and not have it based of fluff.

For all the clowns who feel sorry for poor Sarah, she was told what was happening behind her and had a choice to change background scenes but she was so busy talking in circles as usually and wanted to stay where she was….She's a complete idiot. I don't feel sorry for her. She continues to make a fool of herself just for attention. What's even more tragic is that the Alaskan Dude is probably saying "honey you were great"…..

Wow … I am completely dumbfounded … not that the Governor is pardoning a turkey (a nice tradition) … not that a turkey is being slaughtered (once again … a nice tradition) … but the negative tone that so many folks have with respect to this woman …. please … look in the mirror and ask yourself …. why am I so righteous and will I ever accomplish as much as this person has done to help out so many have better lives in one's own state and country?

Rudeness and Ignorant Bliss is obviously a commonality amongst more Americans than I care to admit to or be proud of.

Paul Wall in Dallas   November 21st, 2008 2:56 pm ET

To "Onlyhonestonehere": although i am a liberal i agree with what you wrote. it's stupid to feel all warm inside after the governor or the president pardons a turkey and eat a turkey at Thanksgiving and feel all good inside. i don't think i would want to see a turkey slaughtered (or any animal for that matter) and truly respect they people who do this work for us squeamish folks.

the real hypocrites are the vegands who eat only vegetables and criticize people for eating animals that have been killed while they wear their Doc Martens or any other leather shoe, or belt.

They are viewing here idiocy too. Thank God the people prevailed on Nov. 4th. Please Sarah stay in Alaska and NEVER run for anything outside of your state again. If you do-WE THE PEOPLE will be waiting.

Some of the folks who commented on this article are plan stupid, no wonder they elected a senator from illinois with no experience other than being a community organizer who is mum silent now on specifics for his plan for the economy while the DOW takes a beating.

Way to go, stupids.

Diane Panama City Fl   November 21st, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Will the stench of Palin not ever leave the public news scene? She is nothing more than a sniveling, ideological thug; and, anyone with a brain should be as sick of this sychophant of Rovian-style demogoguary as I am.

M. Deij   November 21st, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Yes, a few generations ago, we did hunt for our own food and killed for it, but we don't live in the past right? Palin sure does… And off course we are hypocrites. Well I am anyway. I like my meat, chicken, fish etc… But I don't need to see the animals actually get killed! It kills my appetite! But seeing that oh so sad, stupid woman in front of a killing makes it even worse.
But a big respect for all the butchers and farmers out there. Most people couldn't do the things you do for us!

Genie, New York   November 21st, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Give Sarah a break. We all know by now that she is clueless!

Anonymous   November 21st, 2008 2:52 pm ET

I don't think the point of this whole thing is the fact that turkeys are being slaughtered (oh my!!!). Even if your job is to slaughter turkeys all day long and you find not one single thing wrong with it, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see the irony in this. Pardoning a turkey is a purely symbolic gesture. So to go through the effort to make the gesture in the first place, going out to a turkey farm to pardon a turkey, and then having them being slaughtered in the background defeats the entire purpose of the gesture.

Whether or not we think slaughtering turkeys is humane or not is irrelevant so it's beyond me why it's even coming up in this (from both sides). It's just a dumb move from a PR perspective to have it in the background given what the entire point of it was, and our opinion of turkey slaughtering in general has no bearing on that whatsoever.

We don't even have to get into what a pointless exercise pardoning a turkey is (and a slap in the face to turkeys everywhere, really). Stupidity abounds.

= = = Well!   November 21st, 2008 2:52 pm ET

freddie   November 21st, 2008 2:51 pm ET

It wasn't only one turkey – there were multiple during the course of her whole interview – watch the entire thing on youtube later people. Countdown showed the whole thing last night. AND she did know it was going on. She was asked by the crew if she was sure the background was okay and she said quote "No Worries".

Her ignorance amazes me.

Joyus   November 21st, 2008 2:51 pm ET

We know that Turkey's are slaughtered but she could have done her intrview from another angle!

Larry   November 21st, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Give it a rest CNN. Let the nut-jobs at Huffington have something to obsess about in their lone world.

Cheryl in Fort Collins Colorado   November 21st, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Well…everyone. It is true that when we eat our turkey on Thanksgiving the last thing we are thinking about is how they are slaughtered. As a women from a ranch/farm family background-it is not necessary to see this stark view of this event especially if younger viewers are watching. She is insensitive and she has proven it by her callous disregard for the polar bear (who have begun to consumer each other from hunger and lack of habitat), whales and seals in her own state. Why would anyone think she would be sensitive in this situation-you are dreaming.

Dp   November 21st, 2008 2:50 pm ET

It's not the turkey, it's the judgment of this woman and the people who handles her to have that as a backdrop for the world to see, for the life of me why do we have to see this woman doing and saying dumb things over and over again, what she needs to do is lock herself in a room with some books and a map, this way she will know how to answer questions and also know where she is..

She's in an interview… of course she knows what is going on around her, chances are she drove to the farm where the tukeys get slaughtered. Would you people be satisfied if she were looking at the turkey and crying to stop the bloodshed in the middle of the interview? The only thing wrong here is that the camera man is at this angle (probably intentional) and that the death dealer should have probably gone on his lunch break at this time.

DONALD   November 21st, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Sarah Palin has character, a political philosophy, moral values and will make a great President of the United States. After four years of this liberal nut Obama, people will be begging for a genuine change. Not what they are getting now, which is a third Clinton term.

Kill those turkeys. They make for a great Thanksgiving dinner. Right on Sarah. Please run for President.

its unbelievably childish and naive to get upset about a Turkey getting killed, when you sit down at Thanksgiving and stuff your fat mouths with it. What do you think happens, the head just falls off or they die of old age and then you eat it?

Oh my god, there is a bird being killed in the background and its a travesty! yet Obama supports abortion and thats just peachy king.

I'm so glad the McCain/Palin ticket didnt win. 1) they are wrong for the country 2) I can't handle watching the news and constantly seeing ridiculous things poked at and discussed just because a republican did it.

It always amazes me that the first thing liberals do to people they dont agree with is call them stupid.

Agreed, this is not a glamorous shot. However, most of reality is not glamourous. Oh by the way, lets talk turkey, for all of you abortion supporters, I would like to see each of you appear in a video where one is being performed behind you…. Abyssinian Lion   November 21st, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Unbelieveable! About 10% of the posters here actually think that people are upset about the slaughter of the Turkey. OMG! Now I see how people like Palin get elected. These people are soooo dim that they totally miss the point. We dont care about the Turkey, idiot. It is the fact she did an interview during the slaughter. wow!

Anthony Martin   November 21st, 2008 2:46 pm ET

OK, pardoning a turkey prior to Thanksgiving is mildly humorous; on the other hand, if a person is trying to 'rehabilatate' her image (diva, rogue, whack job, hillibilly, clueless, etc.); givng a speech video taped in front of a live action slaughterhouse may not do the trick. The images aren't exactly kid friendly; trying to decipher Mrs. Palin's syntax is torturous, giving a turkey to a charity would have gotten a lot more goodwill mileage, but the guy playing the camera in the background, despite the turkey's demise, is priceless. In any case, given a staged media event, it makes one wonder, exactly what kind of message was trying to be sent. Bizzare, bizzare.

EW   November 21st, 2008 2:46 pm ET

I grew up in a rural area about 20 miles from any town. Now I live in a suburb of Chicago. City people are pretty naieve about where all that meat comes from in the grocery store. Where do you think those cellophane wrapped turkeys come from? Yeah, that hamburger is just ground up cow, get over it.

empty vessel   November 21st, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Obambi is proposing a FLAN terrorist loving and pardoning AG, who likes sticking guns in little kids faces and oh by the way, he was also involved inn the pardoning of Mark Rich who sold weapons to people that wanted to kill us.

Not only did he pardon these fine folks, he LIED about it under oath about being "involved".

Nah, no story there right CNN, Palin does nothing wrong and she is getting a lengthy stay on the ticker so the BOTS can hammer her for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

But then again these are the same BOTS that came out in unison without any information on Holder and said "great pick by Obama", "Finally some smart people", blah, blah, blah.

You BOTS wish you had been elected Mayor or Governor, but the best you geniuses could be is getting elected Dog catcher and most of you are not qualified for that, woof, woof.

butterball palin   November 21st, 2008 2:45 pm ET

i think we (city folk) know how turkeys get to our dinner table. you are missing the point here. if you go to a slaughter house, you might not want to conduct the interview in front of the guy shooting the cows in the head.

she's like movie… i really funny movie.

Kaiman   November 21st, 2008 2:45 pm ET

I'll admit that this is somewhat hilarious but come on let's give the girl a break. She's a waste of the media's time. She doesn't have the intelligence to put together a coherent sentence. She will never amount to a competent politician. My question is: why do we pay so much attention to her??? Let's get back to the real issues facing our country instead of victimizing a clearly incompetent individual. Come on CNN.

great white hunter   November 21st, 2008 2:45 pm ET

You go Sarah!

It must be a slow news day that this is in the top stories. Give the liberal media idiots something to talk about.

Remember what Dale Earnhart (another idiot) said…"when they call you name, whethers its cheers or jeers, so long as they make noise, its ok. Its when everyone goes silent that you start to worry"

Buckeye Voter   November 21st, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Too funny.

It's not that a turkey is getting processed behind her, but that it was at the event where she "pardoned" a turkey from the slaughterhouse. It was bizarrely ironic.

But just try to listen to her. What, if anything, is she saying? Is that English? It was like listening to a beauty pagent contestant tell us her plan to enact world peace.

Ex-Republican for Obama   November 21st, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Guys,

We all know turkeys get killed for T-giving. But to ignore how completely unaware of her surroudings is and how she lacks any shred of common sense, is obviously a short coming of yours.

Liberals do not hold a copy right on intelligence, and now it is confirmed that they do not hold it on ignorance either. You neo-con right wing freaks need to accept the fact that this woman is a complete fool and a walking media disaster.

In short, kill the turkey, but don't pardon Sarah!

Thomas   November 21st, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Ok, everyone…I think we all know that turkeys must be slaughtered so that everyone can have their Thanksgiving dinner…

The point is that she should have exercised better judgment than to do an interview in front of a guy slaughtering one.

Seems like the right-wingers like Palin are always worried about what kids will see on TV and how it will affect them.

Well, kids are going to see this..and it will affect some of them….they may not want to eat turkey anymore after seeing this. That, in turn, may have a detrimental effect on the small businesses that she claimed she was there to help.

What will she do for Christmas? An interview in a store employee locker room with the guy who plays Santa getting into his beard and suit behind her?

tedith   November 21st, 2008 2:43 pm ET

For 4 long years — the MEDIA is going to be focused on this Rt Wing Nutcase and her antics up there in Mooseland —- this is going to tick off a lot of the Lower 48 Republicans who want to run for PRES , like Mitt, the Phoney, Romney — know it ?? She will be getting all the Media attention and then hopefully the GOP Nomination for PRES in 2012 — which will make it so easy for OBAMA to cruise to a 2nd term – know it ??

my tofu   November 21st, 2008 2:43 pm ET

If you watch the video she ok'd the location of the camera in relation to the turkey being slaughtered. She's fully aware of what is taking place behind her. Yes, this is how food gets to the table, but not my table – I'm vegan so I can expound all I want. It's just so weird that she doesn't get why it is disgusting to some people that she would call this "fun." For all you people who eat meat that are outraged by this, take a look in your mirror. It wouldn't happen if you didn't finance it.

Kyle W   November 21st, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Meh   November 21st, 2008 2:43 pm ET

You guys, she KNEW about the turkey slaughter going on behind her! They asked her ahead of time if that was ok for it to be in the background and she said it was! This was not a set-up. She is just that clueless about political image.

And come'on now, even if you ARE a meat-eater (I'm not) how can you not at least cringe while another creature is in its death thross?? She's pretty heartless. Thank JEEBUS she was not elected! She cries over fetuses but doesn't blink an eye over a grown creature being beheaded? Yikes!

And my god, that VOICE.

For the person who doesn't understand the "hatred" for this woman: what goes around, comes around, baby. You get back what you put out and all this woman did was race-bait and fear monger. It's not surprising most people don't care for her!

Diane   November 21st, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Why is she so hung up on the criticism she gets? I thought she liked the attention. I guess she can't take it. Sore loser.

I sort of agree that the turkey execution is not that big of a deal (and I am a city person, thank you), but she is oblivious. Can't deny that she is so self absorbed she is oblivious to the frantic pleading gobbles behind her! LOL. Was that Burberry scarf part of the Saks purchases, I wonder?

Luis   November 21st, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Dan B   November 21st, 2008 2:42 pm ET

I can not believe this is even worthy of being considered 'news'. Are there not more important things for 'reputable' news sources like CNN and others to report on? The election is over and it's time to stop dragging Palin through the mud. This is downright pathetic. We are talking about a turkey, an animal that God put on this earth for us to eat, which will soon be on almost everyones dinner tables. There is no way to sugar-coat how it gets there. Deal with it.

More perceptive than a rock? Or Not?   November 21st, 2008 2:42 pm ET

If she is this unaware of her surroundings, the people of Alaska should be concerned that she is in charge of their state. Likewise, if she was aware of her surroundings and still didn't get that it was in bad taste to conduct an interview in front of dying animals, maybe Alaskans should be MORE afraid that she is running their state.

Of course she moved on to bigger and better things, moose.
She is a total walking idiot as we saw recently, so to think this
is something that would phase her, or the likes of her is foolish.
To have little children see something as grumsome as this is
a shame and could have lasting effects on them. One good one would be they become vegetarians. Thank God the Country made
the right choice or she might be out there shooting our dogs and cats given the opportunity. The jerk behind her actually enjoyed doing
what he did, hope he stays in Alaska as well.

Cheekz   November 21st, 2008 2:41 pm ET

I keep reading where people are restating that that's how we get turkey's on Thanksgiving. As if we don't know. But what I'm most appalled by is holding an interview in front of the slaughter itself. Who would want to watch that one week before Thanksgiving? It's not the turkey killing that so unbelievable, its her choice to hold an interview that is.

Amy   November 21st, 2008 2:41 pm ET

OK, I'm not a vegetarian, and I completely understand that animals have to die so we can live. I get that. I don't want to watch it, though! I don't want to see an animal get butchered, while Palin speaks.
She should at least have more consideration for other peoples feelings on the matter. What would have happened if my 4 year old son saw this on TV? Yes, animals do get butchered so we can live and that's life, but in my child's eyes that's a horrible sight to see! I mean, this is on the NEWS!!! Seriously, the woman doesn't think about anybody else except herself!

So, she's either a complete moron (totally clueless to what goes on around her) or she actually ENJOYS watching animals get butchered, so she's a borderline sociopath. Which is it, Sarah?

LOL   November 21st, 2008 2:41 pm ET

This is a matter of someone who is blatantly CRUEL towards animals, and this is yet just another example of what kind of coward she is. Sure, many, many eat turkey and other meats (I am a vegetarian for those that may ask) but MANY are hoping and praying that one day barbaric acts like slaughtering are either a thing of the past, or are done w/ MUCH stricter humane laws and practices in place. I'm an independent who has been glued to CNN's site since Palin was announced as a running mate to McCain. Honestly – I never really understood politics, or what a Democrat/Republican even was – but I was SO horrified by Palin in general that I took a serious crash course, and I am SO beyond thankful that this person did not make it in to office. SHE is the reason McCain didn't my vote – so when she says she's sorry if she cost him even one vote – well, here's that one official vote from NH!

Sarah – show some dignity and go away, and while you're at it, leave these poor animals to live a life they deserve – you're no better than they are!

Barbara   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

We are all lucky we weren't subjected to seeing her slice the turkeys' head off.. She loves to hunt and "dress" moose.. She loves to shoot wolves
If this is life in Alaska and she representative they should let them secede… Ugh…

Jen   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Palin kills and slaughters animals for fun; killing for food is pale in comparison.

For some of us, this is disgusting. This is one of the many reasons why I have chosen a much healthier eating lifestyle: vegetarian.

Note To Future Candidates: Pick A VP With A Brain   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Oh well, I guess she'll have to get "mavericky" in Alaska. We dodged that bullet.

Thank you Lord.

Lynne   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

I'm sorry, but that is hilarious.

And, who does she surround herself with? She needs a new team of handlers, again, if you ask me.

… and I'm still laughing.

Dee   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

The cameraman should have been able to see what was happening behind her and TURNED to a different angle..that didn't need to be seen by folks..hopefully no KIDS were watching the interview…I had no plans on voting for McCain/Palin but it seems the press is just clamoring at anything to make her seems more and more like a joke!!!

wammy   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

The stupidtity of people who get on her case for being in the vicinity of a turkey being slaughtered is what is so "entertaining". My grandmother lived on a farm, and they killed chickens for food by wringing their necks–thats how it was done in the early part of last century– but most of you would be condemning her for that.

Tammy Mentzer   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

I am a member of Peta and am aware 24/7/365, not just Thanksgiving time, in other words, of the unnecessary suffering of animals for human pleasure, however, I have to say what is everyone in such an uproar about seeing this poor animal suffer? Most people eat meat – do they not think animals suffering constantly for human consumption or is it just that people think it's okay to eat animals as long as they don't have to witness them being killed. What hypocrisy. QUIT EATING MEAT! It is NOT necessary, in fact, vegetarianism is a MUCH healtier diet, you will live longer and animals won't suffer.

Greg M   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

She is a turkey and she got upset , because she thought that the turkey behind her was trying to take her place as the biggest turkey of all times. There republican turkeys.

THIS WOMAN IS A TURKEY!

sarah2012   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Sarah,
keep it up, don't change who you are to please the socialist tofu munching tree huggers. Give them somebody to talk about and hate. Keep their little minds off what little obama is going to be able to do when he takes over. Who will they blame when nothing changes over the next few years?

Palin – 2012, when America takes itself back

Chuckjones   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

The left and country club Republicans have a common enemy – Sarah Palin. They both want her off the stage, along with any other evangelicals. Mike Huckabee is getting it too now.

As for the turkey, I'd like all though who object to the turkey slaughter to refrain from eating turkey – or any meat or fish – this Thanksgiving.

Get real.

Mike   November 21st, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Evidently most Americans think turkeys come from the freezer in the grocery store! Before that they were picked from a tree when ripe and then shrink wrapped! WOW! Get your head of the sand and get it together! Don't live your entire life without a clue! And you VOTE?

Vicki   November 21st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Good grief, do all you City Slickers think that your fowl and red meat are made somewhere in a factory? Birds, pigs, cattle are slaughtered, grow up and get over it. Better yet, go visit a farm and take your kids with so you can learn how your food is produced! Stop protecting your kids from the realities of the world.

What is wrong with you people complaining about the turkeys and what going on in the back ground? Think about it the next time you eat your next meal that has meat in it!! They are at a turkey farm!!! they butcher turkeys, are you guys dumb!! It called life, this should not even be in the news.

Barbara Gordon   November 21st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

THE MERE THOUGHT THAT CNN THOUGHT THIS WAS NEWSWORTHY CEMENTS THE FACT THAT CNN DECIDED TO BE UNFAIR DURING THE CAMPAIGN AND CONTINUES TO BE..CNN YOU HAVE PROVED THAT YOU REALLY DO KNOW HOW TO PUT LIPSTICK ON A PIG…

kimmey   November 21st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

This story is a waste of page.

This is how you get your food!

People in this country are so uneducated and petty!

Yishi Ben-Avraham   November 21st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

"Unfortunate event"? It's so typical of such Americans to even find this newsworthy. People, this is reality. Meat doesn't magically materialize in neatly wrapped plastic for you to buy and eat as you push 225 lbs! But these same "intellectuals" who do not think about this while they buy meat, do not ponder where their money comes from, where their tax dollars go. They are as blind to the realistic slaughter of animals to feed them as they are to the even more gruesome and inhumane slaughter of human beings around the world to prop up their very spoiled and ignorant way of life. These could not even find Darfur, Bosnia, etc. on a map! THAT is the true shame!

Rob   November 21st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

I get a kick out of you loser Republicans coming on here trying to sound like a bunch of toughies in order to rationalize this nonsense.

As Bob Dylan once said, "When somethings not right, it's wrong".

And, Sarah Palin and the rest of you right-wingers are VERY WRONG.

CNN :)   November 21st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

I just LOVE Sarah Palin!!!! She has main stream media baffled!!!! They just can't understand America!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
Notice, at this particular farm, they are FREE RANGE TURKEYS….they have a great life up to this point. For all you BEEF eaters, please go check out what happens to the poor animal YOU eat!!! And how many chemicals are pumped into them before you eat them…..such hypocrites!

Giver her a break   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

I see this story not so much as a reflection on Sarah Palin but on the interviewer and camera man, who could clearly see the turkey being slaughtered in the background and didn't think to move to a different location or to ask the worker to hold up for five minutes before continuing to slaughter turkeys.

Patrick S.   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

This just proves what a bunch of morons people really are. I hope you Palin bashers, especially those patting yourselves on the back because we "made the right choice" can be proud that the woman on Glenn Beck's moron trivia today also voted for the same guy.

Grow up people. It was a stupid fun interview for Thanksgiving.

secularjihad   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

You know, I eat meat, and I know where it comes from…but the convulsing bird was a bit much for an interview backdrop…as well as the bathtub full of blood, and the guy's clothes covered in blood. Just a bit gruesome. I took this as another secret wink to her bloodthirsty base.

Ted   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

GOVERNOR PALIN LIVES IN REALITY!

Then you have the arrogant people in the US who eat red meat every day and do not think twice – ILISTIST!

arc, Lugano CH   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Palin is Hurtin' for Certain.

And to think, the fate of the United States of America almost fell into her hands…

That is, once hubby Todd took care of McCain using his snowmachine.

OHIO BABE   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

maybe its because we all eat meat but it doesnt mean we want to see how its killed, there is a reason people have them jobs they can stomach it, just like doctors but we dont sit around watching it on tv unless your watching some medical surgery type show which i choose not to watch, i dont even like scary movies. Now i will not look at my turkey the same, thanks Sarah for that thought in my head on thanksgiving.

SJ in PA   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Unreal, the gall of that woman to be seen at a local business who's product will be on many tables next week.

Not my table mind you………I SHOT my turkey with my bow last week.

Must not be a huntable population up there in AK……

Jay Gonzaez   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

"Palin appeared unaware of what was going on…." When did she ever appeared to know what was going on? This woman just don't get it. I think she is a severe case of Craneal Rectosis.

TeresaInTN   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Say for instance, Anderson Cooper was reporting live from Iraq in the middle of a battlezone with soldiers scurrying about carrying out their orders when right in the middle of AC's sentence, we see a soldier blown to bits.

What would you say then? Pull our troops out? What do you think happen in wars? Yes, we know there will be casualties, but it doesn't mean we want to see it on tv.

I think the point of the article was to point out that even though she is pardoning a turkey, doesn't mean that we need to see one killed.

It's all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!

TallyGirl, FL   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Reading many of the comments here, I can now see how nearly half of the country voted in such a way to put Palin one step from the presidency.

The fact that turkeys are slaughtered in order to become Thanksgiving dinner is not news and not what many intelligent voters find so amusing.

What IS amusing, is that visiting the farm and pardoning the turkey was a political photo op for Palin. And despite being told what was taking place behind her, Palin didn't have the intelligence or political savvy to see how her "pardonning a turkey" photo op would become a joke if she continued the interview with someone decapitating the rest of the turkeys in the background.

Tom in CA   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

She can field-dress a moose, so being interviewed while turkeys are being slaughtered behind her is nothing.

Look – at least she pardoned one of her brethren while the others were offed.

suzyku   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Nice One CNN   November 21st, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Boo hoo, why don't we all cry and be depressed you libs, "ugh i can't stand that woman", "ugh, i hate her accent", "ugh obama is god", "ugh sarah will do anything to be in the spotlight."

This is tradition you idiots. How the heck do you think your turkey was killed. I'm so glad Obama won. Now we have a racist president who thinks "trickle up" economics works"! Yeah, he is Ivy League…chuckle, chuckle.

David In Idaho   November 21st, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Interesting interview. Why is everybody slamming it. Have you ever seen a fishermen catch and prepare a fish. The interview is fine if you listen to the actual questions she was asked. She is a very sharp lady. America lost out on a great Pres & VP.

TW+7   November 21st, 2008 2:36 pm ET

The media has it all wrong and don't understand! Gov. Palin said "This is fun" because she envisioned the turkey as representing the mindless twits who make fun of her being cut off from their source of stupidity-their heads!

Daria   November 21st, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Ahahahahahahaha – what's next, will she give a 4th of July interview while her hubby burns the flag in the background? Maybe give an interview on the endangered species act while she dresses a moose? Oh the possiblities! Honey, you aren't doing much to impress the world with the political savvy of the average Alaskan…..but bless your heart you are making us smile in these rough times and for that I thank you, and I'm sure the nation's comedians will appreciate it too….!

Linda, WI   November 21st, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Lori In DFW, Texas   November 21st, 2008 2:36 pm ET

I'm surprised that she didn't give an interview in which she herself was slaughtering the turkey, wielding a bloody ax as the feathers flew and she prattled on and on about things that don't make sense.

Sarah in the South   November 21st, 2008 2:36 pm ET

How stupid are we?!!! Do we REALLY think that these "pardoned" turkeys get to live? Of course they kill them! That's how people make money. By killing food that ends up on our tables. These turkey's don't go to some spa to live out their days. However, my turkey gets a nice golden tan. With all the hungry families in our country right now, I think it would be worse to let someones dinner live. Who freaking cares about a turkey!

Ted   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY EAT TURKEYS AND RED MEAT EVERYDAY!

HOW DO YOU THINK THEY GET BROUGHT TO MARKET?

Bob   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Kind of like the Republican Party…DOA.

blaising   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

According to presidential historian Davis Logsdon of the University of Minnesota, some Americans might find it "alienating" to have a president who speaks English as if it were his first language.
"Every time Obama opens his mouth, his subjects and verbs are in agreement," says Mr. Logsdon. "If he keeps it up, he is running the risk of sounding like an elitist."
The historian said that if Mr. Obama insists on using complete sentences in his speeches, the public may find itself saying, "Okay, subject, predicate, subject predicate — we get it, stop showing off."
The president-elect's stubborn insistence on using complete sentences has already attracted a rebuke from one of his harshest critics, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.
"Talking with complete sentences there and also too talking in a way that ordinary Americans like Joe the Plumber and Tito the Builder can't really do there, I think needing to do that isn't tapping into what Americans are needing also," she said.

JFK   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Why is it she never knows what is really going on around her? I see a trend developing here.

Jana   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Pro – life.

For Sarah Palin, pro-life is thinly disguised premise that adheres her to the Christian right radicals. She supports the aerial hunting of wolves – watch those videos for some REAL horrifying inhumane acts.

Now, she's amidst slaughter and she just keeps… chatting away…..

She is a woman contrasts. Fevor for Pro-Life at any cost / photos of live slaugher.

As a staunch Republican, the only thing she wants to regulate is a woman's personal body.

Republicans talk out of both sides of their mouth – depending on the idiot they think they are talking to.

RT   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

NICK–wow, you are clueless yourself–I guess if she sneezed and then used a kleenex to wipe her nose, you would be decrying her wasting of valuable natural resources and want her impeached as Gov of Alaska for not using a cloth hankie instead. Fool.

Amy Kathleen   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

She's a goldmine.

Brian MacDougall   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

It's a demonstration of her stupidity. A half-competent handler would get the operation to cease while the cameras rolled. It's like giving a anti-alcohol abuse PSA in a bar. If you have half a brain, you're going to think better of it.

I'm pretty familiar with the fact that my meat comes from a packing house. I just don't want to see its operation on my TV.

AmericanFeminist   November 21st, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Come on. Yes, we liberals know where our food comes from. But, how many people want to go to a slaughterhouse and witness the slaughter. Anyway…

It's not so much a disturbing video, after all we can't see the turkey getting mangled in the machine, it's more a funny video. She, like always, has no clue as to what's going on around her. She's so egotistical, and self centered, that she's oblivious to how the nation will react to this hilarious scene. I mean, look at the guy's face in the background. HA!!!

As a former beauty pageant contestant, she loves the spotlight. She can't help it. Once that camera light goes on, she's the center of the universe.

Rosemary   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

DSM   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Jake   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Why bame Gov. Palin for CNN's Camera Man's mistake for not getting a better angle? It appears as though CNN is at fault here. Ths is a prime example of a left wing news channel trying to find fault with Gov. Palin. Do you really call this a good story? I can see why CNN's ratings are going down the tubes.

Manuel Ibarra   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Spectacular coverage CNN, this is a perfect example of how low journalistic standards have become in this country.

Jim   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

First, let's take a long look at the reality. This is clearly being done to keep her in the spotlight. Any press is good press. Second, for those of you who blame the media for spreading lies, what about the stories coming from Kansas (and other places) that Obama is a Muslim? No proof, no documentation, but it's OK because the Christian faith is so perfect? Get a clue…

Hannah   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

The poor lady just can't win. Jesus Christ, it's a turkey farm, and she went there to PARDON a turkey, not kill one. Why is this news? Seriously, I feel bad for her, she's just doing a yearly tradition and suddenly it's news because they kill a turkey on a turkey farm.

The person you should be blaming is the cameraman who didn't say "Ma'am, you might want to turn around!"

There are a lot of people on this blog that just don't seem to get it!! Its not the fact that "us liberals" or "those of us who voted for Obama" are surprised that Turkeys get slaughtered.

I think that is where you conservatives seem to just completely miss the point. Goes right over your heads. The issue here is that Sarah Palin can not seem to do ANYTHING right!!! And if you think this was a great idea to give an interview of her nonsensical babbling while they slaughter turkies in the background your a fool. Most people who even tuned in to watch didn't even know Sarah was babbling nonsensically because they were only aware of ONE THING… the beheading of turkies in the background.

Matt, Manchester, CT   November 21st, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Wow, you liberals on here are really hysterical – just listen to yourselves. Do yourselves a favor and take a Xanax. For a group of people who like to harp on the fact that she wasn't elected and we should all just forget about her, you certainly like to bring her up at every opportunity. I love how all the "tolerant" folks on the left lash out anyone who disagrees with them. Get a grip!

This message is for "Clint." I think that this is the "Clint" that I personally know. If so, how did this become a partisan news story? This is not a Democratic or Republican thing. This may be a weak news story, but this whole thing of turning every story that you don't like into a partisan issue is ridiculous. It's also probably part of the liberal media bias that you keep going on about. CNN had the most comprehensive and fair election coverage on the planet, bottom line, but they were always in Obama's corner, I suppose. Go back to watching Faux News if you want real bias.

SteveF   November 21st, 2008 2:33 pm ET

What the Left never got about Gov. Palin, is that Alaska is culturally different from much, not all, of America. There is a different culture there. Guess what? They don't care if you don't like the way they speak, and they don't care if a turkey is getting slaughtered right next to them. I loved having Palin around, and I'd love to have her back. You culturally insensitive bigots just don't get it and the rest of us don't really care that you don't.

Linda Irwin   November 21st, 2008 2:33 pm ET

I know turkeys are killed for Thanksgiving dinner, but that was rediculous!
I cannot stand to hear her voice anymore. She, on the other hand, loves nothing more! She did not take a breath!

Chris in Iowa   November 21st, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Isn't that the point? She pardoned a turkey and what happened behind her is what happens to billions of animals. Turkey farm, a week before Thanksgiving and there are turkeys being killed? Only Sarah Palin would let this happen!!!! CNN you guys are a big joke with your ticker.

Mike   November 21st, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Are you folks at CNN so scared of Sarah that you have to take every opportunity to attempt to degrade her. It's a TURKEY FARM!!! What do you expect to be going on at a TURKEY FARM right before Thanksgiving? Everyone who is raising a stink about this must be vegans… or do you only buy free range suicidal turkeys for your holiday meal? Sarah Palin is an Alaskan. We hunt, we fish, we love animals… they're tasty.

Robert   November 21st, 2008 2:33 pm ET

tina   November 21st, 2008 2:33 pm ET

This story is stupid. How do you think that people get turkeys for Thanksgiving? They just suddenly appear at the dinner table cooked with all the stuffing.

The Liberal Media will do anything to try to embarras Governor Palin.

Obama mucked up his first news conference but no one called him on it.

This story is a non-issue!

Come on, did anyone really expect her to pardon every turkey on that turkey farm? The reality is, most of us will eat turkey on thanksgiving, and now we know exactly how it will be slaughtered. It was funny that the camera man didn't choose a better spot for the interview, or that the eager worker in the background couldn't wait for the interview to finish before doing his job.

Chuck   November 21st, 2008 2:32 pm ET

At least no wolves were aerial-gunned in the making of this interview …

anchorage-jen   November 21st, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Oh she knew what she was doing. I think it is hilarious. If you eat meat you know they have to die somehow. If you are a meat eater (like myself) how can you be offended? This video isn't going to stop me from stuffing my face full of turkey this holiday season. Heck i am going to eat ham as well. Just be glad she didn't pardon a ham!! lol

Thomas   November 21st, 2008 2:32 pm ET

That turkey being killed is symbolic of the McCain campaign which she helped to kill…

Or it may be symbolic of her political career which will never go further than governor of Alaska, where she really does not do much expect attend ice sculpting events and snowmobile races, and is only poular because she increased the amount that Alasakans receive every year for oil windfalls.

KLEE   November 21st, 2008 2:32 pm ET

I'm curious as to why none of you liberals out there are calling the camera crew idiots as well… it is more their fault than it is Palin's that this was captured in the interview, and why you people feel the need to insult her because of it is simply amazing. This was a local news story, so I'm also unclear as to why you idiots think she's hogging the national spotlight again. Seriously, you liberals need to wake up and move on with your lives.

BC in NC   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Give thanks she's not helping pick the Cabinet. Forget about the turkey.

Mike   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Inappropriate is the only word I can come up with to describe this event. I could only imagine what the white house would be like if she were in it. Thank God that didn't happen.

nate   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

A true reason to give thanks in a down season: Sarah is back up in Alaska where she belongs.

Reality   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

she's such a loser !!!!! I hope she does run in 2012 !!!!

Sunnyvale   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Was the turkeys family notfied? Was that turkey the sole breadwinner for the family? How many under age turkey children were left behind?
What will happen to the dead turkey? When and where is the funeral?
I want to be there to eat a turkey sandwich and show my support. Someone should start a help fund so we can donate money for the turkey family, maybe a candlelight vigil?
Somebody help!! Don't show any more pictures!! Think about the children, my god the children!!

Kimberly   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Yeah, we know where the turkey comes from. Doesn't mean we want to see that crap on television.

Either of them!

Butch Dillon   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Palin seems to have taken some glee away from the slaughter. You don't have to be vegetarian or vegan to appreciate and respect the life that was taken to feed you. To joke about it as she did is callously disrespectful.

fred   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

How dumb can liberals be? I can't wait until Obama starts to disappoint you, you all will turn on like a bunch of rabid wolves.

Please!!   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Please, please, please!!! Leave Palin completely out of the limelight! The election is over, everyone knows that Palin is an idiot, and now the media needs to let her slip back into the oblivion she came from. She is bad for politics and extremely bad for this country. Imagine what the state of this country would be under a Palin administration. Granted, Bush has done a horrendous job in his 8 years, and as hard as it is to imagine, it would be worse under Palin. I truly think it would be the total distruction of this country. It's sad that there are so many ignorant people that like her, it really gives a telling tale as to the intelligence of this country. It's a real eye opener as to how important a good education is for America. Enough of Palin!!!

garrett   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Why did CNN feed us this information?

sg   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Gee – Maybe folks will know where turkeys come from now. They're not grown in Walmart freezers. It figures the media would make a big deal out of this.

Whitespideralex   November 21st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Why bring her up again? She was well on her way to be forgotten. And that is truely the best way for her.

cahill   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

just so everyone knows, fox is also running this story…

Teresa   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

Why would this be hard for people to watch all of the sudden? What do you think is on your plate each Thanksgiving?? Billions of animals are slaughtered each year for consumption, clothing, etc. Maybe the point is…if it bothers you…maybe you should consider not eating meat or wearing animal skin/fur/feathers??!! Seems like a simple fix to me. :) I stopped eating animals 13 years ago and I feel so good about that decision.

Trisha   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

WHAT WAS SHE THINKING? If my small kids had been in the room and had seen that they would be horrified. They are too young fo me to try and explain the whole slaughtering process. How can someone be that clueless?

altapres   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

Look at yourself charlene before you despise her or others .As the bible says check the log in your eye before others.Maybe you are worse than others.Shame on you.Change as Obama says.

dejah thoris   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

and if she'd been elected president, that would be common sense, decency, and respect for others being slaughtered behind her.

Oh… wait… she already did that.

Allen, Sugar Land, Texas   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

Palin is the reason why Bush is evil. Palin and Bush caused that turkey to die.

Obama '08

Barbara   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

All those who are horrified can back it up by foregoing their turkey dinner next Thursday.

Moey Gainsland   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

You people are idiots. It's a turkey farm, and that's what happens. I have a right to be offended; I'm a vegetarian. I'm guessing most of you are not–this is what happens to your food. If you can't handle seeing it on TV, don't eat it.

But don't blame Palin for not being surprised whena turkey gets killed at a TURKEY FARM.

alex   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

I thought this was funny. How did she not realize her background

Boston Guy   November 21st, 2008 2:30 pm ET

Who cares? Your great grandparents pretty much killed all thier own meat to eat. Obama 2012 Hillary 2016!!

Grog in Ohio   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Can anyone translate that meandering, nonsensical sentence quoted from her to English?

60 days till the end of the Bush administration.

Rob in Sacramento   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

…wow…the point isn't that the turkey was slaughtered…yes, even Dem's eat meat and we know if we don't buy it at the store then we have to kill it ourselves.

The point is that we came far too close to electing her into the VP position. The point is that here is someone delivering a 'pardon the turkey' bit for the news (yes, we KNOW she's yesterday's news, but she doesn't get it yet), and while she delivers that clip she doesn't realize what is going on behind her. This is why when the Pres. pardon's a turkey, it's not at the turkey farm where the cameras can catch an actual slaughter, but it's at a different site (East lawn, etc.).

It's that kind of ignorance that she surrounds herself with. An aide should have looked at the background and had the cameras set up where that action wouldn't be taped. She and the people she surrounds herself with are that dense! Incredible!

patnyc   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Irrespective of the events captured on video, this is tele-journalism at its worst. This is not a news item, this is visual distraction from actual events that are to be reported by the media in their constituionally-defined role in our democracy.

What is the Governor's policy on…anything today? Reporters, go do your work. This is People Magazine-style distraction. Once these video-tidbit gatherers decide there is a narrative about the personality of a public official, they run towards it, rather than digging for information related to the public official's policies, which affect our lives. More empty crap from "TV News." You are all fired.

Jon   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

It's not sexist to say this lady is an idiot. Her judgment is particularly questionable, especially for an elected official.

No one is picking on her, because she is a female. Could you see Hillary Clinton doing something so stupid?

Mike from NJ   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

As much as I don't like Palin…

C'mon CNN. This isnt a story. This isn't news. This isn't worthy of note.

Next you'll be reporting "Palin Jaywalks." Dun, dun, DUNNNN! "Film at 11."

Please stop Foxing It Up, and remember the professionalism and demeanor of Bernard Shaw, rather than the sensational claptrap of the Faux News Machine.

Maybe you can strive to be the "Televised News of Record," rather than the… I don't even know what to call what CNN is becoming.

David P. Kronmiller   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

I'm always surprised when people defend Palin. The issue isn't that this is a big issue – it's just that it's further proof that she's not all that aware of what's happening around her and she certainly wasn't ready to run a nation. Now I know – what's a turkey farm have to do with running a country – well if you're pardoning a turkey for a family friendly photo-op it might be bad form to have one killed behind you.

She should have been aware of the potential shot (esp with her journalism experience) and made sure she wasn't being interviewed in front of something so paradoxical. Or at least her staff should have been aware – does she have a press liason? Seems like she needs one.

And for those thinking this is fine – try watching this same video with kid and see how innocent this shot is.

Jim from OK   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

What a bunch of sissified treehuggers. Did you think the turkeys in the grocery store volunteered for the duty? Morons…freeloading, government dependancy, democrat morons. The strongest survive. We'll be proving this in another 20 years or so. I'm sick of paying for all of you people. GET A JOB, MAKE YOUR HOUSE PAYMENT, QUIT GETTING KNOCKED UP WITH KIDS YOU CAN'T PAY FOR! Losers!

Jana   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

She is so full of herself — and completely unaware of what others are experiencing.

It's all about HER.

Robin   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

. . . . wow, I have two responses first that was an extremely dumb idea on both the local news organization and governor Palin to film the interview right outside the slaughter house *While* they are slaughtering the birds. And second how they are killing the birds seems extremely inhumane surely there is a more humane way to instantly kill the birds than stuff their heads into a grinder while they are still alive.

If surely hope that this is not the way larger food producers are slaughtering them because it is surely making me think twice about eating turkey this year.

Jeane   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

When will she ever go away or learn how to speak in complete sentences????

jadedat51   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

That's not a turkey farm – that's the front lawn of the Alaska Governor's Mansion!

Glen In Los Angeles   November 21st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Let's see a series of these. Maybe the next interview could take place at a beef packing plant?

RealityKing   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Media setup?? The progressive MSM has certainly proven themselves capable of deceptive reporting practices to meet their own agenda….

LiberalsHateAmerica   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Matt
As opposed to what you believe- that we all formed from mud? but who created the mud? how'd the mud get here? Liberals view of evolution is like saying the Sisteen Chapel just happened over time without any design behind it. Palin is a not a fundalmentalist, as MOST Christian Americans are not. Many believe in intelligent design. Noah's ark, adam and eve are just stories meant to teach a lesson…

You liberals have been drinking the socialist kool-aid served up by the media for far too long. (apparently the stock-market isn't buying barry's socialist vision of unicorns and flowers either)

ele   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Follow up to my previous comment in watching some other news media besides CNN; sorry this is not directed at CNN, of course they do not want you to read other media this will be taken viewers away from them…(but you need to) if you don't like the way they report the news. Case Closed!

Ziggy   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

ewwwwwwww – gross! Palin again!!!! I'm going to be sick….

steve   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Oh, please. All you people eat turkeys throughout the year, where do you think they come from? You are all hypocrites, eating turkey (and other meats) while whining about this non-event? get a life!

Pat F   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

JT – LMAO! Democrats don't distinguish between human life and turkey life!

But actually, with Democrats, it is often hard to tell.

Bob   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

1) Who cares about Turkeys being slaughtered. That's what they're here for.
2) The poor judgement here is by the camerman, not Palin. He was probably setting her up anyway.

KM   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

@LiberalsHateAmerica

Get over yourself you phony patriot.

DR   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Clint: our species is totally capable of surviving without "killing and eating other lifeforms." Read a book on nutrition and get a clue.

That aside, I think Sarah Palin could have requested a more festive backdrop for her interview.

Lori, Houston Texas   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

I see she never returned the RNC's Burberry scarf. Unless there is a Burberry store in Wasilla… Nah, she's just a typical Republican thief. Profits before People. Party before Country. The Me First crowd.

Sunnyvale   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

I'm terrified! Was the turkeys family notfied? Was that turkey the sole breadwinner for the family? How many under age turkey children were left behind?

big time   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

This woman is dammed if she does and dammed if she doesn't . It's a Turkey, it's Thankgiving. If you eat it , it has to be killed first. In Alaska, it looks like they get the Turkey fresh and not from Krogers or Food Lion. My steak doesn't come from steers and my canned fish doesn't come from the ocean. Whats wrong with people??

jeff jones   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Only a story CNN would even think about running. Sarah Palin is a conservative and she is excoriated because she happened to have her picture taken while a yummy turkey is being slaughtered. Who the freak cares? When that idiot Stephanaphoulous (sic) corrected Obama about his "Muslim faith" it went unnoticed or unchallenged by the media. The media is liberal and they suck the toe of Obama. Give me a break

LMAO!!!!!!   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Ha ha ha ha!

Enough of Palin already. Come on now.

Gambi   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

As Thanksgiving approaches we have many things to be thankful for and one of them is that Palin did not become our Vice- President. Amen

Tony B   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Irony, thy name is Sarah Palin…

Rule #1 of television interviews – don't do one when live animals are being slaughtered over your left shoulder, especially if the purpose of the photo op was to pardon a live animal.

Rule #2 of television interviews – if the video clip of your interview comes with a warning about "graphic content", fire your PR staff immediately.

Mark   November 21st, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Typical biased liberal media…just keep printing ANYTHING that can have a negative tone for her and keep blowing smoke up my arse when it comes to your no do no wrong picks. Hypocritis!!!

Todd (indianapolis)   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

To all of those out there who claim "why is this news"? It isnt! Its just freakin funny. Im sorry your candidate lost, but get over it and learn how to laugh. Its ok to find humor in life right wingers. "1-20-09″ then end of an error".

ED   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

She just turned me into a vegetarian. What a jerk. It's not enough that she supports the horrid slaughtering of wolves, now we get to witness the slaughter of turkeys, while she gabs on and on, as if nothing is happening?

Rob   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

It looks like her fortunes appear to be changing for the worse. First Stevens loses, and then this.

Maybe we will see a quick and final good riddance to this shameless opportunist.

jerry1   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

WE NEED TO REALLY TAKE A STEP BACK IN THIS COUNTRY!!!! WE WORRY ABOUT TURKEYS AND CHICKENS BEING KILLED OR "SLAUGHTERED". WHERE DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THE MEATS THEY BUT IN THE GROCERY STORES COME FROM? THE FOOD FAIREY?????
WE NEED TO STAND UP, GROW A BACKBOE, AND GET THIS COUNTRY BACK UP TO WHERE IT SHOULD BE.. IF THE DEMOCRATS ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANY BETTER IN THE NEXT FOUR YEARS THAN THE LAST MONTH, WE'RE REALLY IN BIG, BIG TROUBLE…

Paul   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

vic

I thank God every day that this woman didn't get elected for vice president!!!

Can I 2nd that

Shari, NY   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

"Someone has to "speak up" on economy". This is the heading for one of the most pressing issues put forth by CNN. As mentioned before, I am not intrested in Huckabee's bid for 2012 (if we get there). Palin's pro-life stance while Tom Turkey goes to his grave touches the nerve of many but still I am not interested. I am no Scrooge but Santa Claus melodies being belted out since early November on some radio stations are not music to my ears. ECONOMY anyone?

Veggie   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Who cares! The only people offended by this would be the animal lovers and vegetarians. Believe me, we didn't like her anyway.

John   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Was that "Billy Bob the turkey-beheader" with Sarah the Pinhead?

Kimberly   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

I LOVE SARAH! She is the funniest woman I've ever heard and watched! I have been laughing at this woman since she first appeared to us! She's a comedian from Alaska right?

She's great. Best impersonation of the dumbest person alive I've ever seen. Really. No one better.

Samael   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Come on. How did you folks think Turkeys ended up in those plastic bags defeathered and frozen? That's been going on far longer than Palin's bid for Vice President.

Flatcoat   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

You would think that during a photo-op for pardening a turkey they would stop working for a minute. That being said, I will have to agree that the turkeys – or other animals we eat – were once alive (so were the plants. actually we commonly eat plants while they are still alive!). Someone had to do the "dirty deed." I have killed my share of animals for eating. I realize that not everyone can do that but don't ostracize those who do. Now, with that being said I need to get back to butchering the deer hanging in the garage. Bye.

Jon   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

You naive boobs!!! Where do you think meat comes from, the sky???

Ian Minneapolis, MN   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Good god people. Yes, it's palin, she's not that cool, but just leave her alone! If you eat meat than you shouldn't say anything mean on these posts.

huh   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Why is this even news….

Lena   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

For goodness sake, give it up already. So she's on a turkey farm and they are killing a turkey behind her. How else do you people think all those millions of people who eat turkey on Thanksgiving get the frozen turkey if it isn't killed?! And who cares that she's there? I personaly don't. Show me news worth my time reading and watching about.

KM   November 21st, 2008 2:27 pm ET

The Palin pooches continue to rush to the the defense of this idiot. Yes, yes we know how the these tasty critters get to our table. Like Palin, her pooches are absolutely clueless to the irony and hilarity that is taking place behind her.

A savvy politician knows not to stand in front of a dumpster when discussing garbage hauling.

What's happening in the background distracts from anything relevant she might have to say.

Bill   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Now, I'm not a Palin fan but this is irresponsible reporting.

Jay   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

You people are a bunch of prudes. How do you think they die? Get over it or boycott your turkey this year…..ah no Ill eat the turkey. Why aren't you bashing the guy doing the slaughter? Leave her alone….she's done nothing to you? You woman are mad because your jealous of her looks. Get over it.

Karen, Arkansas   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Palin appeared unaware of what was going on directly behind her…or infront of her or beside her…as she was while running for office.

CNN her 15 minutes of fame are UP!

Julia   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Media died at 2008. People are losing their jobs, their money, losing their pride and media shows us Sarah Palin with at turkey being slaughtered behind her? Maybe next time while enterviewing Obama should do it at abortion hospitals and showing an innocent baby being killed.

I believe media is so scare of this woman and by the way I am pretty sure it was a set up.

David Newport, OR   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

I dislike Sarah…but this is a no issue. Meat comes from slaughtered animals. CNN…stop trying to make a story when there is none. The election is over.

Smiley from Conyers, GA   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism,"

What the heck is she saying? Does she speak english or is she from the "other" America?

Dionne   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Are you sure it wasn't the sound of her voice that made the turkey off himself??

Kevin   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

LOL at the folks that still think Palin ran for President.
LOL at the folks that think Obama will fix everything.
LOL at the folks that blame Bush for the troubled economy.
LOL at the folks blaming the liberal biased CNN from running this so called story.
LOL at the folks who hate on the other posters because they are left wing liberal wieners or far right wing nut jobs.
LOL at the folks who have nothing better to do today but post comments like this that waste precious space.

Hi   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Getting slaughtered is something Palin knows a lot about- it happened to her and McCain during the election HAHAHAHA!!!!

Michael C   November 21st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Republicans are missing the point once again.

We all know where our turkeys come from – we're just not used to seeing hick politicians give INTERVIEWS in front of a LIVE SLAUGHTER. If you think that is normal, than it is not surprising why your party is the laughing stock of the rest of the country / world. Being "folksy" can be charming at times, but this is not one of them.

chad_broski   November 21st, 2008 2:25 pm ET

This isn't about food processing and knowing where meat comes from. Yes, meat eaters understand that turkeys are not born headless and featherless in the freezer aisle. It still doesn't mean we want to see the slaughter. I mean, everyone knows where babies come from and that birth is a beautiful fact of life – that still doesn't mean it's appropriate for a politician to give an interview right in front of a live birth.

It just reinforces how jaw-droppingly clueless she is. Nevermind the fact that she blathered and rambled for 3 minutes without uttering a single coherent thought. To think that this person was almost our vice president is simultaneously hilarious, frightening, unbelievable, and sad.

Justin   November 21st, 2008 2:25 pm ET

I wonder what Easter Egg hunts at the Governor's mansion are like….

Adam   November 21st, 2008 2:25 pm ET

I agree with Mike, are these
