Palin interview causes stir

An interview Gov. Sarah Palin did Thursday is causing a stir.
An interview Gov. Sarah Palin did Thursday is causing a stir.

(CNN) - It’s the ultimate holiday photo-op for any governor: the yearly pardoning of a turkey to spare it from demise days before Thanksgiving.

But former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is causing a stir for an interview she gave after pardoning an Alaska turkey Thursday, during which one bird was being slaughtered in the background.

Palin appeared unaware of what was going on directly behind her, though she did seem to take a glance at the unfortunate event at one particular point during the interview.

"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism," Palin said during the interview. "Certainly will probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but at least it was fun."

"I am always in charge of the turkey so I am where I need to be today to prepare for that," she also said.

What’s the big deal? They're at a place that butchers turkeys. What do people THINK happens there? Where do people think Thanksgiving turkeys come from?

I think the guy in the background had the wrong turkey strung upside down. So she went to a turkey farm to pardon one turkey but kill another for Thanksgiving.... At least she is balanced.... If she was president, she would have our military leave Iraq, just to invade Iraq a minute later, and then she would only talk about her withdrawl...

Silence of the Turkeys. The feel good comedy of the year. No this is not from the Daily Show or SNL, nor was it created by the Coen Bros or Monty Python . . . this is the real face of the pro life republican party.

You guys are a bunch of whimps. For most of the country this is no big deal. How do you think turkeys get in the grocery store? Get out of the city and see how the rest of the world lives. Get outside and do some hunting and fishing.

It amazes me that some of the people on this message board are saying this is not news and that there are more important things going on in the world. Well, obviously they did read the article's headling and decided to read it the article anyway.

Its kind of contradictory of what you are posting on this blog. I agree that it is not important news. However it is news, this is a public figure. Its kind of funny.

I do think we all have sense enough to know turkeys are killed before they make it to our plates. The point is she just pardoned a turkey and yet a man is standing behind her killing turkeys. Ha-Ha!

Seriously, this is nothing more than a news factoid. It's not being presented as "breaking news"...it's tucked away in the corner for people to point at and chuckle. Stop taking such umbrage to the existence of this story, Palin fans.

Let's see...Palin was unaware of the goings-on around her?!

Well, at least she can see Russia from her front porch, right?!

Sarah Palin is devoid of any skills; she's a former beauty queen turned sports caster, turned moose hunter turned politician, for God's Sake!!!

In response to Clint - get your head out of the sand. There are a LOT of people that don't go through life killing and eating other animals. It's cruel and unhealthy and in the Western world, in particular, a cause of high methane levels in the atmosphere and a waste of resources that could be better put to use growing food for the world's hungry!

She was doing normal elected official fluff stuff like all the governors, mayors, senators, past ans soon to be presidents will be doing. Why hasn't anyone said anything about the tv station that recorded this or put it on the air. They did this on purpose. This is a part of the food chain and a fact of life for meat eaters. The tv station made it bigger deal than what it is; she didn't. The national news put it in their stories, not her. She wasn't looking for national attention on this, they are, trying to look for a story when there isn't one there. Others have commented that there are more important news that could be taking attention and they're right- this story is stupid and the media is twice as dumb for making it out to be more than what it is.

    Nice.

I think Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert should hire her and her handlers/staff.

And to think that this mental midget was very close to being in charge of policies in the country.

The RNC should be brought up on felony charges for reckless endangerment, and fraud.

    Peace.

Hello its thanksgiving. If you are eating turkey this year, maybe it would help to find out how it got on your table. I don't even see that this is newsworthy on the Enquirer.

I don't particularly like Sarah Palin but come on! If you eat turkey on Thanksgiving then turkeys have to die. Death is really never pleasant but if one is not aware of it then they are ignorant in the worst way.
