Mukasey collapsed at the podium on Friday.

(CNN) – Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech Thursday evening. CNN had a camera rolling during the event, giving us an unusual look at what happened. I got a call in the middle of the night to come take a look. (Watch Video) Even doctors, while we read about diseases and see patients after they end up in the ER, we hardly ever witness things like this. I decided to blog about it this morning, hoping we might all learn something from seeing what happened to Mukasey.

During his speech, he seemed to have word-finding difficulties. He started to say a word, paused and repeated it. He then began to slur his words, and had a slight drooping of the right side of his face. After that, he slumped forward and passed out, requiring assistance to the ground. All of these events serve as clues as to what may have caused the problem in the first place.

Who cares what happened to him. He did not care what happened to US. He and the people that confirmed him ought to be ashamed. I hope he gets well and lives a very long time to pay for his abdication of his responsibilities as the AG.

Looks like a stroke to me. Don't agree with his policies but wish him a complete and speedy recovery.

Reggie   November 22nd, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Bless this gentlemen, but it is just ever so interesting to note at which moment in his speech that he fainted. he was saying that the Justice Department acted legally in the firing and dismissals of the lawyers. Maybe his speech was too much even for him to stand....

Does anyone else think that it is ironic that Michael Mukasey suffered what appeared to be a stroke in the middle of praising the Bush administration's use of illegal wiretaps?

It seemed to me as if God was signaling, "This, is what I think of that".

There is no decency for the indecent! Keep that in mind. Buy the ticket... Taaaaaaake thhhhhhhhe rrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Fail.

I was not there...but it sure sounded like he was having a stroke, even a mild one. Hopefully he will make a good recovery from whatever it is.

A more basic question could be "was he drinking before the speech"?

A sad day   November 22nd, 2008 12:00 pm ET

I think they call it aging, and it happens to all of us.Plus having to be the main lawyer for the most corrupt bunch of criminals to ever hold office doesnt help.

Leah from FL   November 22nd, 2008 11:48 am ET

Sometimes the press releases are intentionally sent out as to protect the privacy of the patient. All indications lead to some type of stroke. He may not wish to make his personal medical history public – and to that I say Bravo!! Wouldn't you like the option to opt out of supplying details when something like this happens?

Franky   November 22nd, 2008 11:30 am ET

I just hope that he's O.K and fine.

Stroke... not uncommon at all.... sad for the individual, but a fact of life in this day and age as always.
