Let the process work. This is what we mean when we talk about the rule of law.

At the end of the day the whole purpose of voting is to ascertain the will or intention of voters. Sometimes these things get a little tricky but I would be concerned with a process that only focussed on strict adherence to technicalities and not the intent of the law.

How does Coleman gaining 23 votes in the recount equal "all the votes in Franken's favor?"

That is how recounts work. You don't know who gains or loses votes until you finish counting all of the votes.

That is how elections work. Count the votes!

I just don't understand why the right wingers on this blog are foaming at the mouth. Shouldn't everyone's vote count? Isn't that a basic right?
What are you guys afraid of now?

I hope they get to 60 seats. Then, they can tell Joe Lieberman what they REALLY think of him.

Is there a reason why there are some ballots are being counted? Was there a reason why the ballots weren't counted before?

Absentee ballots and the Provisional ballots are never counted unless there is a close count; normally elections are won by a large enough margin that those types of ballots would not affect the outcome of the election. In this case both Provisional and Absentee votes COULD change the winner of the election.

A: Hey there's a rejected ballot!
B: why was it rejected?
A: no bubbles filled, only a large coffee cup stain crescent on the ballot.
B: hey, that vote should be counted!!!
A: what vote?
B: the one on the ballot...
A: the STAIN?
B: let me see it...oh, its obvious, the bleed throough from the back clearly indicates that it was closer to Franken. Put it in the Franken Pile.

Every American has the right to vote either in person or by absentee.

This thing about "voter intent" is bogus. If a voter can't read directions and fill out the ballot correctly, their vote SHOULD be void. I don't want anyone interpreting my ballot. Say for example I put an X in the bubble for a candidate and left the other blank: what was my intent.? Well, I intended to cross out the one candidate so that my vote is for the one with the open bubble... Point is, we shouldn't be "interpreting" ballots.

And to V voter November 26th, 2008 10:18 am ET – No, Franken's the one stealing the election. He couldn't cut it as a radio host, he's past his prime as a comedian, his trying to steal this seat is yet another example of a pathetic human being. He is bitter, and holds views that would even make Stalin say "Whoa, tone it down there pal." What would be best for Minnesota and America would be for him to lose and just fade into oblivion, making insane rants like Chevy Chase.

Barkley would be better than either of these partisan hacks and the country would be better off as a result.

I don't believe either of these two really want to be a public servant, it's all about power and money. Franken's a loud mouth that thinks he should be responsible for implementing the Screen Actor's Guild agenda and rally against anything traditional, he the penultimate anti-establishment character.

Coleman is a former Democrat who is now a Republican, this guy can't make up his mind just sway which ever way the wind is blowing.

There should be a get-over-it-already rule that gets rid of the first guy to lawyer up.

The best way to solve all of this crap is to institute a lottery for these seats and just pick any registered voter with at least a GED. Look where the "professionals" have taken this country over the last 40 years.

Sure makes me wonder if my absentee ballot in Fort Worth, Texas REALLY got counted or not- especially since most of our county is run by died in the wool far far far right Republicans.

Were they provisional? Were they early and or mail-in?

Did Mickey Mouse fill them all out?

Coleman does not want absentee ballots counted I wonder why is it that he will lose the Senate seat if all the votes are counted .
Al Franken will win if all the votes are counted.

If a bunch of lawyers try to explain away why we shouldn't count all the votes, they are UNPATRIOTIC and deserve to be dealt with by firing squad for treason. It's that serious.

And for those of you who deride Franken because he was a comedian (and a darn good one, by the way!) you obviously never listened to his political commentary on the radio, or read his books. The man speaks the truth from an intelligent and well thought out viewpoint. The fact that he has a sense of humor only adds to his qualifications. The people of Minnesota, and the entire country, will benefit by having him in the Senate. Go Al!

The bottom line is all votes should be looked at and any that are legitimate need to be counted or the entire election is simply a farce with the voters being denied their right to choose who they want to represent them in the Senate.

So in a election seperated by a couple hundred votes, now the GOP doesn't want to count all the votes?

CNN doesn't explain why they shouldn't be counted. Clearly they have an agenda to get Franken elected.

Disparaging stuff is always explained in detail when it has to do with republicans. When it has to do with libs, its glossed over.
