Obama appears to be picking his cabinet at a record pace.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama is already making presidential history by naming - or at least his transition team is leaking to the press - his Cabinet picks faster than nearly all of his predecessors.

"If we do not act swiftly and boldly, most experts believe that we could lose millions of jobs next year," Obama said Monday.

With an economic crisis spiraling out of control and a lame duck in the oval office, presidential scholars say the next commander in chief simply had no choice.

Watch: Obama cabinet vetting process underway

"This is really unprecedented. But it's an unprecedented situation," said Larry Sabato, a presidential scholar at the University of Virginia. "Obama is doing what the public and the markets demand be done - and that is to show that the next president is really in charge before he even takes the oath of office."

Obama Haters will forever be just that. God help the Racist ones who hide behind their blogs. President Elect Obama has already begun his work to make America a better place for ALL including the 43% that couldn't bring themselves to vote for him. I am impressed already.

I'm glad you brought up the topic of bad judgement. Bad judgement is precisely what Mr. Obama claim disqualified Hillary. Now, he is appointing Mrs Clinton to the SecOfState? Wow, talk about bad judgement. Obama complained about the Iraq war vote during his campaign. Now, he leave Gates in as SecDef, picks Biden (another Iraq Vote goon) and picks Hillary. I see no change in any of his picks. The fact is, he's obviously over his head with the situation that the idiot dems in congress and that moron Bush in the White House is leaving him.

Now we went from the campaign of "hope and change" to "Change in Policy." This two party system has really screwed America.

TXBad1   November 26th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

I Like when People Mouth off without facts! Facts Obama and McCain Both Voted in Senate for the what now Looks like over a Trillion Dollar bail out of Banks and Lending Institutions, now Looks like corperations also, Facts 90% of the American People were against the Bail outs and when you call and ask there offices why they went against what there People wanted that Put them in office to represent them, They say they felt it was good for the American People, ok so I wrote in a candidate after that Because a President not for the People we do not need, ok Now one of them is President elect and already still ignoring the People but expect us to pay the Bill! People open your eyes and get the Facts! seems a new Trend USSA, Move over USSR, the USSA is moving in! sounds stupid doesn't it? well open your eyes!

Linda   November 26th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

I wonder about those righteous bigots who are comfortable writing their hatred even know that the majority of Americans who voted for PE Obama are apalled at the ignorance of those who cannot get over their racist opinions. Personally, I feel sorry for them and the hatred they carry around with them. Anyone who cannot see Michelle Obvama as the role model for all women has got to have a few missing neurons. I'm thankful
I'm thankful we the people show love and concern instead of hate.

Then there's instant karma.

Aaron   November 26th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

It's pretty easy to pick cabinet members when all you have to do is say, "Hmmm, who used to work for the Fed, a bank, or Bill Clinton? Oh, that guy? Yea, I want him."

Sue   November 26th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Paul Volcker is one of the deciders who set our financial situation up to what it is now. Change alright!!! Volcker set it up and now is going to fix it????

Sue   November 26th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Is it true that Constitutionally Sen Clinton is ineligible to be a cabinet pick? Same for Sen Dodd, etc??? Unless "they" do the 'Saxbe fix'??

John S   November 26th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

To all the idiots like Fred who still actually think that Obama was not born in America, let me educate you on some facts. He was born in Hawaii, which is a state in the USA. The same week he was born, Aug 4, 1961, his birth was recorded in the Honolulu Tribune, the local newspaper. If you need to prove that to yourself, log on to the newspaper and for a fee, you can access the archives to have a look. People need to learn how to do a little research on the web or most of them who think like Fred are just way to ignorant to know how to.

Peter (CA)   November 26th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

30-m-Democrat:

He did not run saying that experience was not important, he ran saying that without judgment, experience means little. Bush being the prime example and McCain supporting him during the campaign with his bad decisions.
I prefer judgment and I prefer smart. For you to claim that Obama is not very smart is...well, not too smart. Whatever hesitation you see is from a man thinking through an answer. From Bush, it was an inability to articulate a response.

Obama Show--Please go away. Your posts show no thought whatsoever.

President-elect Obama is doing great job so far handling his Cabinet picks in an expeditious manner. Our country needs his team to be ready on Day One to handle the challenges we face. I trust the Obama administration to deliver a smart, new direction.

God bless America!

Mel of Alexandria, Virginia   November 26th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

The bramble bush is so lame that all he can do is looking silly at the G20 and pardoning a turkey. He even forgot to pardon Chaney and himself for their crimes committed against humanity. Thanks to President-elect Obama, we have some hope that before too long, things will be looking up.

It really shows the low IQ of many on this blog. News flash if he fails this whole country will go down the tubes even the idiots that love pointing out his flaws. And please drop the line about just another black family in government housing. It really makes you look rather stupid.

John G   November 26th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Exactly how is a cabinet made up of Clinton, Carter and Bush veterans going to change anything at all?

Andy   November 26th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Of course vetting is going historically fast, they were all vetted by Clinton 16 yrs ago

AEK   November 26th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I suppose the folks posting today complaining about President elect Obama's selection of experienced people, who just happened to serve in the government during the Clinton or Carter years, would rather have the Bush/Chaney/Rove White House staff instead? I believe that the mess we're in right now can be attributed, at least in part, to that group of criminals.

And just by the by, a 53% majority in the last election is significant when you look at it in the context of President Bush's loss of the popular vote in 2000 and his narrow win in 2004. I believe he felt, and stated regularly, that he had a mandate from the people to make the changes that are now reflected in the Iraq war, staggering financial problems, and a complete disregard for the environment.

To all of you guys who are already judging Obama before he's even served:

Look, you're entitled to have your own opinions or whatever, but I can't believe you are already bashing Obama's picks when he's been putting tons of really talented and experienced people in his cabinet. His economic team (thus far) is awesome and will give him well-rounded opinions on how to help solve the economic situation in this country.

And uh, for those of you who think he's picking these people 'too fast'...did you ever stop to think that maybe Obama had these people in mind all along? I don't think he woke up the day after election and was like "OH YEAH, I WILL START PICKING MY CABINET TODAY...HMMM, LET'S SEE, WHO DO WE CHOOSE?" I mean, I know it takes McCain about three hours just to get out of bed, and we all know Bush is the master procrastinator, but Obama has his butt in gear and is taking this very seriously.

And maybe we shouldn't be buying things we can't pay for like those huge SUVS and those cookie-cutter houses out in the 'burbs. I guess that's why we have Wal-Mart, the greatest American institution! :-/

insanity   November 26th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

TO....No Hillary = No Obama
What an idiot you are.. not only that, I think you're a liar.
Obama said he got ONLY 53% and he went on to say that McCain got 47%, and that he will go to the white house with humility.

Your attempt and distorting the facts is truly despicable..You MUST be a republican. If not, you are truly acting like one.

Aisha   November 26th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

To 'anonymous big D'
I know it's hard to see the world through the rose colored window of your trailer home but if the government buys up the bad mortgages (like John McCain wanted) then most all Americans would be living in government housing. I know it's not your fault because you are a product of your very poor and unenlightened school system and close minded parents that never graduated from those schools and never left the city limits, then we can't possible expect you to have any other view. I hope your children crawl out from that muck and mire that surrounds you and gets a new set of windows with a better view.

I see the sore losers are back on the blogs today. Complaining Obama isn't really about change. A lot of the same names who were here everyday through the election attacking Obama.

You people are so bitter and cynical you are willing to see your country fail if it gives you the chance to see Obama fail. What poor excuses for Americans you are. Real Americans will pull together in this time of crisis and get behind the president because he is the only chance for all of us.

As for the change issue...when you want change in a company you don't fire all the employees, you get a new CEO. The president-elect is already changing how things are done in government and he hasn't even taken office yet. He will bring more change than any president in recent history.

Daniel   November 26th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I, for one, have no problem with Obama wanting to include multiple members of the last successful Administration this country has seen. HOW DARE HE!

Seriously, get a grip. I bet most of you neo-cons didn't expect him to keep Gates on, eh? The man has talked about gathering a coalition of people who both agree and disagree with him, and he's walking the walk. That's a lot more than you can say for most recent Presidents.

Whether you like him or not, you have to see that this is a man who isn't going to sit by and mess around. He's going to act, and with his brain, not his heart.

They should take $100 Billion of the bailout money that was approved by Congress and set up a program for homeowners to apply for the amount of their individual mortgages to be paid off. The only mortgage that this could be used for would be the primary residence, not for landlords to pay off rental properties, only primary homes.
Then allow each homeowner to pay the principle amount that was being paid to the bank (with no interest/taxes/insurance) to the government.
This would help the economy, because it would allow the banks to stop foreclosing on homes, it would allow the homeower to stop taking from their mortgage payments to pay other bills and the outrageous prices for gas without having to skip other bills.

Things are very bad in the Uk. In the news they said that the financial situation is as bad as it was 60 years ago. The woolworth chain of stores has gone in administration. People are losing their jobs fast. I am so sorry for Obama that he has become president of a bankrupt country. He will not be able to keep all his promises. At least his administration is an intelligent one and they will be able to soften the blows. I think that this is all that he will be able to do. People in America have to hold hands together , work hard, help their president to save their country. There is no time for all the racists abuse. Each country is now fighting hard to stop their country from spiralling even further down the drain. In Europe they are beginning to worry that Obama will put America first rather than look at what the rest of the world want. To bloggers who worry about the racists, do not waste your time. They will not change. In some families this sort of things happens too slowly. This is the result of lack of education. The smart ones like Limbaugh make money out of their ignorance. So they play the game to eran millions.

I have the right to judge a man, or group of individuals, that tell me they know what is best for me, but those same individuals can't even pay the bills they are supposed to pay. They just print more money, tax more Americans, send their children to expensive private schools. Politicians are liars. Nothing more, nothing else. By the way, you clowns that are questioning Obama's picks because they have experience. You are a bigger idiot than I thought.

Here is a lesson, 'Leadership 101'. Change comes from the leader not his subordinates. When you take over a failing company/country you don't fire everyone. You get rid of losers and keep the smart ones, then tell them how you want things done. If they don't do it, you get rid of them.
To republicans change means getting rid of everyone then hire a bunch of there buddies with zero experience to run the show. Then they watch things go down hill. Just like what happen in Iraq, FEMA and homeland security (if there ever was such a thing). bush got rid of the Iraq army. Leaving the country with no way of defending itself once the US left.(if they were ever planning on leaving) That army then became the enemy.
If you don't believe me the GOP wanted palin. LMAO

Why can't there be a stop put to out-sourcing and co-sourcing our jobs immediately? How is that helping our economy? The company that I work for has informed us that our jobs are going to be done overseas (they called it co-sourcing) but not all will go (hard to believe). We believe it's called out-sourcing and that eventually all our positions or jobs will be done over there due to cheaper labor. How is that helping our families and economy here? I am a single mother of 2 barely making ends meat now and live from pay check to pay check. I am a nervous wreck because now I don't know if I will have a job come next year. Than, how do I support my family and keep my house and car and pay health insurance?

I'm just amazed to see all of the negative comments about our new President, Barack Obama on this site. You can really tell who the "White Middle Aged Uneducated Racists/Bigots/Skinheads/KKK Rednecks are" like Anonymus in Big D, Fred in SC, JAE, John from LA and Matt just to mention a few. There are always winners and losers and will always be, along with the sore losers. Get over it and move on with your life. Barack Obama won the popular vote by almost 8 Million votes. Does this mean they were all wrong! No it means that the "Best Man Won". Unlike the last 2 eleections where the elections were stolen and given to a complete idiot.

JuanM   November 26th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Democrats and Republicans are the same. Spend Spend Spend the tax tax tax. Trample on our constitution. Ron Paul and Kucinich are right, nothing will change- nothing. Obama is appointing Washington insiders and when he's called on it he changes his talking points "uh..ummmm...Change is policy." of course you Kool-aide drinker buy it and repeat his orders.

Fred in SC,

If there was anything that anyone could have done to prove that Obama has an invalid birth certificate, then it would have been done BEFORE THE ELECTION.

Honestly Fred, you hammer on that like a chisel on marble. Please open your myopic little eyes, get out of your state of denial and repeat after me: President Barack Hussein Obama.

Fred in SC-The lawsuit was dismissed: "We therefore find that Plaintiffs attempt to use these statutes to gain standing to pursue his Natural Born Citizen Clause claim are frivolous and not worthy of discussion." See Opinion at 17-18.

Get over it, or perhaps you enjoy looking like a moron

J.Crobuzon   November 26th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Big D, and anyone else who wonders, the midwest is full of little blonde pregnant girls named Svenson and Brewer and Olafson who got knocked up and were thrown out by their Lutheran families into public housing. They, not the inner-city black people, are the huge drain on our social services. Sorry to burst your bubble, but anyone connected with social work knows about the 'Myth of the Welfare Queen.' Ask them.
Spider, quit with the business about people being hypnotized into voting for Obama – that is complete tinfoil-hat stuff and shows your gullibility. Fifteen percent of the GOP at least crossed party lines to vote for Obama, because he wasn't more Bush. How is he working on the economy, even as president-elect? Have you noticed that this is a crisis of consumer confidence, not a dollar-bill shortage? People are afraid to spend right now. Anything that boosts confidence helps us all. You are being a dog in the manger.

Lauren the Designer   November 26th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

30-m-PA-Democrat-voted McCain:
I too seem to recall the often repeated Obama line that experience doesn't matter, judgement is what is important. Now it seems all about bringing in a cabinet with experience, mostly ex-Clintonites. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good to have an experienced cabinet; but why is what's good for the cabinet not needed at the top?

WOW!! Racism and ignorance. One America? I guess some of you don't want a united country. Please just get out the way and let those of us who love America try to change this country in a positive direction. You haters need to get therapy – fast!!! I have another suggestion for those who don't want to hear from our President-Elect – turn the TV off. You obviously can't read so that's not an issue.

If you listened to the press conference today, President-Elect explained to those who have no understanding, that in order to have people with experience in many of these position, they likely would have had some role in the Clinton administration since that's the last Democratic administration we've had. He also said that the "vision" is his. In other words, they will carry out his policies. That's change.

Fear of change, irrational bigotry and hatred of ethnically different people–without noticing their virtues, are sadly a result of an ignorant and deprived upbringing. People like "Anonymous D" bring all of ther baggage wherever they go–and it will take some time before he is trustful of his constitution and his countrymen that are different.

We are finally entering a new era of 21St century America and fear of the unknown is to be expected. People like "Anonymous D" should be responded to with respect for their ignorance and deprived upbringing–responding with anger only fortifies their flawed truths and sustains the ignorance.

danel   November 26th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

People here are NOT thinking correctly. Sure, having Gates to stay is like staring Bush all over again, but Barack needs Gates to implements his Iraq withdrawals. He needs a steady hand in security while Obama is busy cleaning up the mess that Bush left behind. Stop being critical of his every move. Where were you when Bush ran the economy to ground?

slickingdom in N.J.   November 26th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

I believe he has to get a head start and not let the outgoing leadership
do something that he can't undo......Just look at the situation this country
is in with the economy, joblessness, potential loss of jobs and the list
goes on and on. Sure, its unprecedented, but people like the Bill & Hillary
know and understand how political processes work. He is attempting to
choose the best of the brightest minds and fresh thinking. WE, as
Americans cannot afford to have the same old politics at a time like this.
Just look at George W. Bush, the U.S. economy is in shambles and all
he wants to do is pardon a turkey's neck !! I'll take this over 8 years
of nothing !!!

Donna from Colorado Springs   November 26th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

I'm very impressed with the speed and determination in which Pres-elect Obama is picking the personell he needs to get this country back on its feet. I love the idiotic comments about Obama "doing more before taking office than Bush did in 8 years." This is obviously the media controlled, Obama zombies that we've all grown to love.

He's just been picking his cabinet, folks. He hasn't done anything as President. Every President before him did the exact same thing, even good ole Dubya.
But, when The Messian says "OK, I'm gonna pick another old Washington, former Clinton aide, white politician. His name is....", the Obominations perk up their ears to hear His latest revelation and another Great Work. When our economy finally bottoms out and more of us are homeless and unemployed, Obama will say "OK, I'm gonna apologize again for not fixing the problem." and you folks will stand, mouth hanging open, listening to hear The Word of The Dream.
Shake it off people. Clear your head.

There are many people (of all ethnicities and races) who live in government housing, especially since the foreclosure rates have gone up and the unemployment rates have soared. Just because Lamebaugh and Hannity don't show you clips of it, there are millions of black families (and other races) who do not live in government housing. There are also millions of non-black families who do. But I guess you only believe it's black families! You don't get out much do you? I don't care who Obama choice in his cabinet as long as they are able to bring the country back to where the world and American people expect us to be. Change comes in different form. When he said change we do not expect him to pick someone that is not experience to be in the cabinet because of change. Come on people lets us our brains here. Obama at least is keeping to his promises for now. Either we support him or we see ourself going down the drain than we are today. From what I understand advisors are just there to advise, the president makes the policy decisions. So bringing in a bunch on newbies to advise is not a great idea but I am sure P. Obama will make the right decisions. I certainly don't blame the Bush advisors for the mess this country is in, I blame Bush.

Mr. Obama is doing the correct thing. By taking control of the economic problems, he is attempting to clean up the frat party that George W. Bush allowed to get out of control! I am sorry but just stating that "Wall Street got drunk" is simply not adequate to explain the circumstances which we are now in. And for a CEO-style president with a so-called MBA, George W. Bush has shown about as much style as the Big Three auto CEO's with their private plane begging to Washington congressmen!

Arthur James   November 26th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Well, more power to him, but when he said he would be reaching across the aisle, I don't think anyone thought he was talking about Gates.

I still know some people who swear that PE Obama is going to announce that he will begin withdrawing troops, even perhaps a total withdrawal, from Iraq at his inauguration speech.

Doesn't look like it. Besides Gates, it looks like a third Clinton term, and I have no problem with that.

I hope that Obama will be a bold president, but since he didn't keep his word on the presidential campaign financing, it's obvious that he has no qualms about going back on his promises.

With that money, we can balance the budget and bail out GM.

First of all, he doesn't have the time to dawdle about selecting his cabinet. He must have it in place and working together when he steps into the oval office.
Second, and most importantly, the reason it's so fast is, he's pretty much appointing all old Clintonistas. Don't need a whole lot of time when the first and foremost question asked is, "Did you work for the Clinton's?" "You did? Great. You're appointed."

30-m-PA-Democrat-voted McCain   November 26th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

I watched the press conference. Obama is not a very smart man. He hesitates just as much as Bush. When asked how appointing Washington insiders to his administration constitutes the change he proclaimed, Obama said the American people would be nervous if he had appointed someone with little experience. Hmm, he ran for president trying to convince people that experience isn't important. I personally realized you DO need people with experience and you can't 'change' Washington and pick newcomers. That's why when he talked about change and how he's not a typical Washington politician I laughed and new it wasn't 'hope', but more like, 'hype'. People are so gullible.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 26th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

I hope after Obama fixes the economy after another bush F-–up the country, that people will get smart keep the bush's out of the white-house. I hear Jeb will be running in 2016.

California Gold   November 26th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

Part of creating success is to not wait until the first day on the job. Frankly given the gravity of the problems it's a relief to have a show of leadership. Thankfully he is moving swiftly and decisively.

katiec   November 26th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

It is good that Barack Obama is moving quickly on picking
qualified people for various positions. They face so many
diasters, decisions, policies need to be decided soon as
possible. It is unfortunate we have to wait until Jan 20th to
put intelligent people into a decision making position.
It is frightening that Bush, Paulson and rest of people of
power have the authority to make any decision regarding the
future of our country.

Milhouse van Houten   November 26th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

I think it is imperative for Obama to be taking these actions. The current
administration is in the final throes of their"lame duck"presidency and
there is just too much at stake for the new administration to"kind of coast"into action. With less than two months until they take office, they have to be ready to act as soon as the oath of office is taken.Obama
seems to have surrounded himself with bright, capable people ready to lead the country out of the wilderness, but that is not going to easy.
To those of you who feel there are too many re-treads in his cabinet,
you could not expect Obama to surround himself with a team of political neophytes, certainly not at this point in time. Those chosen at this point all have the acumen to aid in getting things back on track.

williefloyd   November 26th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

It is very encouraging to see P.E. Obama readying himself for action on day 1. Although I haven't been in total agreement with all of his selections, I do believe he is doing an outstanding job thus far. This is the type of change we have needed-action immediately without wasting time arguing between parties. We have no chance of surviving the crises we are facing without unity. I hope and pray the members of Congress will work together toward solving our many problems.

No nonsense...
This guy means it when he says theyre gonna hit the ground running.
I hate the feet dragging alot of politicians feel the need to do.
Ask the right questions, get your answers, and the person either fits the role or not. No need to BS or beat around the bush

FreeNLovIt   November 26th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

I was laughing at Hillary's 'Hit the Ground' running on day one message (actually I like it) but looks like the next Prez will have to hit the ground running. It's kind of CRAZY. Everything that Hillary had predicted, comes TRUE. I'm sure Obama is going to have a lot of 2 am calls, but he's still young so it'd be good for him. He's Soooooooooooo lucky he's got the BEST men/women of both parties, serving him (Bush and Clinton). Now, hopefully he can analyze the situations and make the right decisions. We truly need someone that can CHAIN both parties to him and make decisions for America. I believe he'll satisfy being the bridge. He's neither white nor black. Overall, I'm just PROUD we broke the race barrier. I didnt expect to see it in my young days. I was expected more like when I'm 80 years old.

.... and this is the mark of an intellect!

We have elected a President to be proud of!

:)

GW Bush should watch how a LEADER works instead of giving pardons to turkeys underneath his desk.

LyonsPhilly   November 26th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

Our new President knows time is of the essence and we have to move quickly but with a steady hand to fix the problems we are facing, thanks to Duh Bush.

Sharon, Tampa FL   November 26th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

And THAT'S what a REAL president does...Lead!!! Thank you President Obama for showing the US and the world a real leader !!!!

Desmond Sequeira   November 26th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

That is right. For God's sake (though he's OK) and ours, PLEASE DO TAKE CHARGE, Mr.Obama!

tedious898   November 26th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

I'm confident Barack is going to do an excellent job. It helps to be intellectually curious, personable, able to organize (the hated: community organizer), intuitive, and a born leader.

I only wish the idiots that won't give him a chance would go back to school and at least get a elementary school degree. The majority of grade school kids think very highly of our president elect. Its a shame there are some many idiots (that voted for McCain), trying to insure we remain at #18 for education in the world. How come dumb people are so loud? What ever happened to "idiots should be seen not heard"?

Getting It Right   November 26th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Yes – he has over 50% of his cabinet selected and/or undergoing vetting – so what else negativity will you guys drum up between now and January 20th; put the whole weight of the crises on his shoulders – ask for more details of data that will not even be relevant in two months?

Tell him to get rid of the lofty talk though he has picked an A-Team -

Come on CNN – don't let us down – keep stirring up the drama.
