Obama’s transition team reacted to the shootings in Mumbai.
Obama’s transition team reacted to the shootings in Mumbai.

(CNN) - The Obama Transition team's chief national security spokesperson, Brooke Anderson, released a statement late Wednesday reacting to the attacks in Mumbai, India:

"President-Elect Obama strongly condemns today's terrorist attacks in Mumbai, and his thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of India. These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism. The United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist networks. We stand with the people of India, whose democracy will prove far more resilient than the hateful ideology that led to these attacks.”

Obama is not even in office yet, so why dont you let Bush do his job. When attacks happen after Jan 20 then I'll expect Obama to handle them, until then it's still the responsibility if your belved George W. Bush.

LOL @ conservatives blaming this on Obama, like attacks on Americans havent been happening the past 8 years. You act like the US has been ay peace since 2000...get over yourselves.

Patrick   November 27th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Please I must rephrase that not all of you are racist but some of you are still living in the old days.

Patrick   November 27th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

In addition the newly elected administration start working before getting to the white house and not after; of course a lot of you are so much blinded by racism that you failed to see this nor to give him some credit for his earnest efforts.

Patrick   November 27th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

In fact some of you cannot wait for an attack on the United States so you turn the blame to Obama just because he is black. We started to fight a war terror that we did not finish; we have insulted countries that were not in agreement with us and we attach Iraq on false pretense, tell me did we find any weapon as the Bush administration claimed; if so were is it? I think that Obama is going to do a great job, shut all you who are racist and refuse to respect another human just because of his skin color. You know who you are…

Patrick   November 27th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

I think you are truly a peace maker Johnny C. Great post and you show respect and courtesy toward your follow men. I thin it is refreshing to find people like with a paused mind state; keep up the good work.

Obama's bringing the troops and the war home.Doesn't everybody in the world love us now like the media and the Obama's campaign told us they would? We are going to be thrilled when the terrorist start blowing them selves and our families up at the mall,or Starbucks.Mean while, Russia is going to "test" us,great time to cut military spending, you know that 10 billion a month Obama has said he's going to stop spending in the Iraq war,so he can have his national health insurance he's promised for your vote.

Most successful people know ,you have to deal from power, for some unknown reason ,liberals don't understand this, and we're going to be in bigger trouble soon.

I think the "Griff" character is just spaced out or something. The best thing is just to ignore such statements that do not even make sense.

DannyCali   November 26th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Those bad guy just want to throw the last ball to Mr. Bush because when the new President come their might not have chance that's why their do it now. Let keep for your story Republican and Mr. Bush your break it and now your own it, do not blame game to Obama.

John   November 26th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Sometimes events are created for the sole purpose of creating fear and panic, thus herding the already skittish sheep into making decisions they may live to regret!

JeepRover   November 26th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I think this is the proper response from the president-elect of the United States. It offers support to a well, democratized nation that is going through "growing pains". It also shows the world our solidarity with fellow democracies around the world and that the terrorist have not, and will not break our wills. It also provides respect to the current administration. We must also remember: the point of terrorism is to force the government to break its own constitution in reaction to their "acts of terror". Nothing more. Nothing less. If we react as they wish-they win.

To the people of Mumbia, India: I wish you Godspeed in your recovery, may you find your Loved Ones alive, and if not may you be able to perform the necessary rites to ensure a better afterlife (or reincarnation as the case may be).

@Lauren and Griff: my sympathies for your ignorance. May our next president, Mr. Obama, enact swift legislation to remedy the education system in your particular locales so that the simple error of not knowing that George W. Bush is still the President until January 20th. This is not Obama's test. This act does not present a "clear and present danger" to the US. In reality I think it could be argued that this is a parting shot at a lame-duck president. Fare thee well, Mr. Bush; you were perhaps the most ineffective president in the history of the United States.

Johnny C.   November 26th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Wow,

This is my first post to CNN ever.
I have been reading these posts for the past few months and have come to the conclusion that most people posting are way too opinionated!
What I mean is that most are so entrenched in their own opinions that they are not willing, or are unable to suffer fools and idiots.

Case in point, a lot of people are currently beating up on Lauren and Griff for their uniformed remarks.

Well my take is this, Obama, although not the President is allowed to have an opinion.
Could this be a “test” for his’ administration?
Possible, however unlikely for the very reason that he is not the current President, Bush is.
After eight long years of failed politics, most of us are looking for anything that will offer a glimmer of hope. Apparently, some of us find that hope in Obama. However that does not give us the reason to down the opinion of others, despite their obvious ignorance.

Building bridges should not, nor does it have to start with Obama. Building bridges should start with the person in the mirror, meaning you, us.
So I say, give these idiots a break, attacking them does no good, and more likely causes them to dig deeper into their preconceived notions and misconceptions.

I am not asking anyone to agree or tolerate idiots. However, I respectfully request that you try to understand their point of view.
In addition, take the time to explain your truth without the name calling.
If it is that important for you to comment then at lest be person enough to explain your own reason for your opinion.
It might be possible for you to convert the uninformed or at least give them pause.

If nothing else, please remember to never argue with a fool.
Why, because people reading (watching) can not tell the difference.

May God bless you all, stay safe and enjoy the holidays.

Peace!

Why are you all throwing blame at Obama and Bush, when they arent even involved in this horrifying act? And why, when I read all these comments, do i feel like we are in the last days of the election. For those of you who voted on election day, congrats. You spoke out. Now, no matter if you "won" or "lost" on Nov 4th, we need to step up and support India and all of the people who have been killed or wounded or affected by this tragedy. This isnt about who put out what statement when or how they did it or in what location they did it or anything like that. This is about the world coming together, and helping our brothers and sisters in need. All of you who think that this is political right now, SHUT UP!!! This is a time for helping and caring. Resect the victims enough to stop being political for one minute. Please. It is the people that think everything is political that has run this country into the ground. Think about that.

As long as Obama doesn't invade Thailand (Ala. George Bush) in response, America will be satisfied with his response. Somehow, someway the world needs an anti-terror response team to confront these instances in all nations.

Then again, Obama is working a lot harder than Bush has been.

Everyone of you people making stupid, derogatory comments are no better than the ones that you are critizing. Republicans, Democrats, Independents, doesn't matter, you are the worst that America has to offer. Feel free to leave.
I didn't vote for Obama but I am not going to just sit here and listen to the sore losers trash the guy before he ever takes office. Like him or not, give him a chance and support him, not because he is a Democrat and not because he's black but because he will soon be the President of the United States. As an Indian Jew, I know too well what terrorist attacks feel like. My heart is so very heavy with sorrow and the need to be close to loved ones there. Why do they do this?? If the dispute is Kashmir, why target progressive, affluent cities like Bombay?? I know, provoking to continue the vicious cycle of victimology. Please post my letter CNN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CARRYING THIS STORY AND GIVING IT SO MUCH COVERAGE. YOU ARE THE VERY BEST. G-d bless.

Lauren, just in case you don't know – President Bush is the President of the United States; therefore, he is in charge; PEOTUS Obama is not in office at this time.

Hey Griff, the same FYI is for you.

Until PEOTUS Obama is sworn in as our 44th President, this is unfortunate incident is President Bush's to deal with.

Cynthia   November 26th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

I find it interesting that this is pretty much what Bush has been saying for how long. Did anyone here notice the language that was used?

Greg Hodges   November 26th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

This attack is simply more proof; not that it should be needed; that the Bush doctrine of "Go It alone" policies were/are idiotic! The ONLY way to crush Al-Qaeda and it`s mad dog killers is a concerted world wide attack on terrorism where ever and when ever it raises it`s ugly head. At the same time this is a huge wake-up call to governments who think that they can strike a deal with the devil (Pakistan); and hope that the snake bites them last. There can be know safe haven anywhere on Earth for these animals. They must be made to realize once and for all that NO CIVILIZED PEOPLE; regardless of race; religion; etc.; will have anything but contempt for murderers of innocents!!!

I gotta say, people are still talking crap? Even after the election is over? Or let alone, what do these people in the comments section understand what's REALLY going on in the world? I just think is a waste of time for these guys on top to keep duking it out on something unpredictable, we gotta grow up already and let us do our share because if they keep doing what they are gonna, this economy is gonna end up like one of those hotels and we'll see who is to blame...

The fact that the last 8 years have been the worst example of leadership in American history? Please link that to Barack Obama. Where is our President? And somebody please let me know if McCain and Palin could have prevented this. Maybe I need to be enlightened.

Lost in Texas FOREVER   November 26th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

In case you didn't know it the lady who wished we had voted the McCain/Palin ticket, well they both would have about as much power as Obama has right now....DUH! Why not just ask Gov Palin what to do then?

George W. Bush IS President of the United States UP TO AND UNTIL January 20, 2009 - it is HIS responsibility to lead this nation until that time. President Elect Obama seems to be doing all he can in preparation for Day One and beyond. I don't ever remember a President Elect who has done as much and will be as ready as Obama.

Change Will Not Be Fast   November 26th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

The latest news on CNN is that PRESIDENT BUSH and his staff are in contact with President Elect Obama and his staff to keep him apprised of the situation. Obama is NOT president yet and cannot do anything other than make a statement, which he has already done.

I don't know what the negative thinkers expect of him. He cannot do anything until he is sworn in, but in my eyes, in the past two weeks, he has conducted himself as THE most Presidential person that I can ever remember. Thank God he is the next leader of this country.

Change will not be quick and it will not be easy, but it is coming. How about showing support instead of derision? All that does is keep this country stuck in the muck and mire where it has been for far too long. Channel the negativity into doing something positive – it might make you feel better.

dejah thoris   November 26th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Dear idjits,

Obama's supposed to do what now? He's not president yet. This is still Bush's bailiwick.

You people who are deriding President-Elect Obama for not doing something to prevent a terrorist attack in India are clearly the most uneducated, stupid, and ignorant people I've ever seen. And I thought I'd seen enough of them during 8 years of Bush Crime Family actions.

Instead of showing us just how ignorant you are, why don't you ignorant right-wingers just STFU and maybe think about the horrific events that are hurting ALL the people of Mumbai. Get your heads out of your right-wing arses and wake up!

Thank God in Heaven YOU will never speak for me (IDIOT)

michael   November 26th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

I only hope "the testing" will not continue like Lauren said, just remember that where ever it happens it will surely be to the loss of innocent life,it could be one of your own,,,Lauren pray the Good prayer, for whoever is in-charge of your Government

"ust another result of the bad business on the bush administration,,, ill be so glad when hes out and obama is in, and came do his job,,, he has great plans,,,"

Why do you think anything is going to change once Obama takes office? Al Qaeda and their ilk hated the U.S before Bush took office and they will continue to hate us.

RSB   November 26th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

Why do some want to criticize Obama when he's not in office? I hope Bush handles this better than the economic crisis. Oh, that's right, he did nothing. Leave Obama alone, he'll be better prepared on day one than Bush has been for eight years.

seenu   November 26th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

India has been going through this for 40 years. No one in west took notice until it happened to them. India has been bleeding while all Western Powers were supporting Pakistan – the epi center for all terrorist activities.

Lost in Texas FOREVER   November 26th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

WHERE does it say in this statement that "Obama is MUM"???? I guess only an idiot would make such a post without really reading it first.

Barbara in NC   November 26th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

All of you haters please shut up. You sound like terrorists. Let the man get in office before criticising. BUSH is still the POTUS until 20 January. IDIOTS!! Rabble-rousers – just trying to stir more stink. SHAME ON YOU

Jacqueline, New York   November 26th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

Can these attacks be in retaliation of America bombing Pakistan for the past couple of weeks, killing innocent civilians?

Ken in NC   November 26th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

I am amazed that so many are calling for Obama to take action or to do something. Do people not realize that President ELECT Obama is not Preside at this time. He has only been elected and cannot take any actions or make decisions to change anything until he is sworn in on 20 January, 2009.

At present, any actions or decisions regarding the state of the nation are the responsibility of PRESIDENT BUSH. Even if Bush makes no decision or makes a bad decision, there is nothing President ELECT Obama can do to stop it until he is sworn in.

Please people, give the man a break. He is doing all he can to be ready on day one.

Zee   November 26th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

This is a horrendous act and let's hope and pray that this is the end of it. May God bring peace and harmony and grace this administration and the next with the strength and judgment to deal with these difficult situations to the best of their ability.

Ken in NC   November 26th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

@ Lauren.................

This is not a test for the Obama Administration. This baby is still the property of "The Joker", BUSH

PDX Gal   November 26th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

And Lame Dubya's reaction????

*crickets*

Katrina Survivor   November 26th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

Lauren, in case you haven't noticed, BUSH is still in office.

Rave   November 26th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Yes, Mr. President. You need to strengthen our ties with India and wipe out the terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

ABG   November 26th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Good luck to Hillary too!

This is just the beginning! Black Liberation Theology adherents take note! :(

Griff   November 26th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Obama keeps MUM???? You never listen America... You just Elected an Idiot... MUM? Bye Obama...

JT   November 26th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Does it seems funny that everyone wants Obama's input on today's issues and not the current administration. Gee, I wonder what Bush has to say about the attack or if he even cares.

linda from South Dakota   November 26th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

ust another result of the bad business on the bush administration,,, ill be so glad when hes out and obama is in, and came do his job,,, he has great plans,,,

The right person for the job   November 26th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Hey bush, this is your opportunity to bomb Iran before they run you out of town.

There IS hope for the future>>>   November 26th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

I believe that the current administration has "not really" kept us from being attacked again. The attacks on the world trade center were 12 years apart and it has only been 7 years since they fell. It will take time for the uncivilized people who want to destroy America to come up with another plan. They were not thinking past 9/11. Just give them time, they are most likely to not give up. I pray we never get hit again, but, I'm still not convinced the current administration has "really" been able to stop something that is probably in the making of the minds of evil...
