From

CHICAGO (CNN) - The Obama transition team has just set up a special team to interact with the State Department’s Operations Center as well as the office of the Director of National Intelligence, according to an Obama aide. That information is then being filtered to President-elect Obama, who is getting regular updates at his residence here in Chicago. He is scheduled to be home all day Thursday celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends.

An Obama spokesman told reporters the president-elect had spoken by phone with both Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Indian Ambassador Ronen Sen.

It kind of sounds to me like president elect Obama is showing what a REAL leader does! He is stepping up to the plate and taking a real leadership role! Also, I think this is very smart of Obama to be picking the people that he's choosing for his cabinet. For all you folks that insist that this is not change, I would rather have him choosing people with experience. If he were choosing people with no experience to run in his cabinet, I would be worried given the turmoil our country is in right now. I can't wait till 1-20-09! Go Barack!!

Opy from Canada   November 27th, 2008 1:47 am ET

Since the new government has taken over in India, they have been on the fence as far as the terrorists are concerned. This horrible event in Mombai will probably knock them off that fence and just maybe they will start to be able to clean out some of these insurgent groups.

The U. S. wants the Indian Govt to work with them to clean out that part of the country, giving the U. S. access to possibly catching and bringing to justice the fanatics that caused 9/11. This incident just may be the straw that broke the camel's back with India. It could possibly mean the end of Bin Ladin and his henchmen. Maybe some good can come from this evil. One can always pray that it will.

Wendy NC   November 27th, 2008 1:31 am ET

Wow, he gives a press conference this morning, works on the economy, takes his family to help hand out food to the needy in Chicago (shocking a few folks who were lined up) and then quickly responds to the horrific events in India. That is the one I voted for! Where is Bush, lounging at Camp David.

Mr. OBAMA, congratulation to you... I believe you are very intelligent. and don't think like other ordinary people think. It is not difficult to find who behind all the mess up around the world, it must be China.. The attacks in India, serial demostrations in Thailand, etc all because they want to move western business to their country. You must aware now China is already become THE BIGGEST HOLDER of US BONDS. Also similar with war in Iraq, Afganishtan and Palestine, why the muslim killing their own people, for what? Those wars and attacks make The US, EU and the world busy and use their sources until they finish and collapse, meanwhile China moves with their agenda quietly, nobody watching them. China secretly recruit patriotic plain muslims who don't think deep, then choose one Puppet Leader. Sure they NEVER SEE their TOP LEADER, all instructions given to the PUPPET LEADER could be in English and by phone or mail and get money transferred to his/their accounts.
OSAMA BIN LADEN enjoys the publication because it makes his organization looks BIG. It is not possible too, the World Trade Center attack did by them... find out...

..The key issue is not to hold a community or a set of people responsible for some acts done by few fringe miscreants

Ravi   November 27th, 2008 12:54 am ET

Texas Teacher, unfortunately our US media would have you believe that Islam is a "religion of peace". Although there are many good, decent people who call themselves Muslim, there are a lot of them who believe that their "god" actually wants them to kill non-Muslims because non-Muslims are evil, in their book.

Consider this, in every nation which sponsors or facilitates terrorism and insurgents, what is the dominant religion of the country, and what is the religion of the people who commit the violent acts of terror? In every single case, the answer is always the same: Islam.

Sadly, as long as Islam is allowed to exist, terrorism will never die.

peter   November 27th, 2008 12:47 am ET

Who is running the country right now as president? Obama or Bush, because I wonder since Obama was elected as president-elect he has been in the spotlight than Bush.Is Bush quitting voluntarily or is he just running his term out?

Mygush people are dying in Mumbai and nowhere about Bush this days.

Desmond Sequeira   November 27th, 2008 12:21 am ET

May be the Obama Presidency will sees what the previous one has refused to see: Terrorism in India is as IMPORTANT for the USA and the world as it is for India – not only because of the implications of our living in the global village but also because Indian lives are as IMPORTANT as US lives. More people have been killed by terrorists in India since 2001 than 9/11

Jeff From Jersey   November 27th, 2008 12:17 am ET

At last a President that will actually try to do something about,well.....something!Anything!The only thing Bush knows how to do is show up about 5 days too late for a photo Op just as long as it doesn't interfere with a golf outing with his corporate buddies!

J.V.Hodgson   November 27th, 2008 12:17 am ET

This article simply says that the President elect is ensuring he maintains an up to date knowledge of Terrorist activity in the world, and that is all be can do.
So far there can be no criticism of Bush or the state department who are cooperating to keep the president elects team updated, I hope as the intelligence community gets information that they do the same.
Despite blanket and very repetitive CNN news coverage, the only response possible at this stage is condemnation of the indiscriminate killing of innocent people in the name of a religious Jihad.
I see no one anywhere in the world denying Muslims or Islamacists the right to practice thier religion, and they must respect other religions because in effect this imposes laws which are against Sharia law in certain aspects. If as a muslim you move to a state or nation with Non sharia law you must make a conscious decision to abide by those laws and if unconscionable you cannot emigrate to such a state or nation for whatever reason expecially those socio economic reasons of state benefits, medical care, education etc., You have to be prepared to compromise as I have had to because I live in a state whose religious beliefs and laws are not those of my home state, but I do abide by local law. Welcome to the global 21st century.
Regards,
Hodgson.

To the hate mongers,

If Obama fails so do we as a Nation and a People!

Deep in your heart, ask yourself, would you rather have him succeed as President and usher in a new era of politics?
Or would you rather have him fail and continue to receive the same old BS that we have gotten during the current administration?

Politics aside, divisions suspended, do you really want the best for our nation, or are we so willing to be blinded by our misconceptions that we would rather suffer failure?

I would rather live, sorry!

CanIcallyouJoe   November 26th, 2008 11:49 pm ET

President-Elect Obama, displaying once more that he is 300 times the president Bush has been; even before taking office!

Don't let those rightwing nutjobs trick you into thinking you haven't been doing a good job! You've been easing people's tensions by holding press conferences on the economy that you have little control over, while the man who should be doing this is.... .. pradoning turkeys and his criminal friends from Texas who were caught in a embezzling scheme in the 1980's.

You have my support, sir.

S Callahan   November 26th, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Lilrosa- actually, CNN reported in the last week or so that the American Muslim Communities put out a statement they are not supportive of these violent acts in any part of the world.

I wonder if this is a test towards President elect Obama...despite the Pres. elect telling the world he is not in the offical position yet. Regardless, at least he is staying on top of worldly events..that's a plus.

My prayers are with the innocent in India......

ameer   November 26th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

I'm a Muslim and I speek out, so shut up and learn before you talk jack***, Obama is a smart man and if u voted
For him and based on what you said, u should vote mccain. Learn.. Learn.. Learn! I'm a muslim and I am attending harvard law, I
have meet bill Clinton, jimmy carter, and nancy pelosi so please, I'm a muslim and look where I am. Oh ya, I don't have a long beard.

Sam   November 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

To; Aliou

He chose former Clinton people because in order to bring about change (especially in the current mess) one needs people with proven experience. Change is the policy of the President-Elect and he will use whatever necessary to implement that policy. Remember, Democrats have had the presidency once since President Jimmy Carter. Clearly, people who have worked for Carter are too old now, so Mr Obama's only option to is pick people from Clinton era. They have proved to be excellent people, for the most part.

Also, someone said that "Obama is the worst President" when he hasn't even taken office yet. People should calm down a bit. President-Elect has, thus far, proven to be very capable, intelligent and visionary with his resounding transition team. So far, there doesn't seem to be any reason to suspect that he is a completely different person than he was during his run for the Presidency.

There are people who are full of hate, cynicism, who'd like to see the President-Elect fail, rather than support him and do their part to see the country recover. It's sad but that's the legacy of the last 8 years of fear and hatred.

Johnny C.   November 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Proud Democrat,

I disagree; I stated in another post that Obama should be allowed to have an opinion, same as you.

What difference does it make that he is currently not the President.

As the President Elect he is going to inherit this issue, don’t you agree?
That being the case, in addition to BOTH administrations working to ensure a smooth transition, this situation not only begs, but obligates Obama to do or say something.
Now I do not advocate or propose that he be put into a decision making position.
However, as the next President would it be fair to say that he should have some influence as to a proper response, or course of action?

Imagine what would happen now if Bush suddenly declared war on those responsible and wanted to send in 20,000 troops.
This close to leaving office would it be prudent for the current administration to at least consult Obama? Would it be in America’s best interest (at this point) to work together to ensure a proper response?

What concerns me more than the Obama hype is that we don’t know Bush's thoughts on this matter.

That said, I believe, no one is making Obama look silly.
What is happening (or so I believe) is that Obama understands what is going on far better than either one of us and responding as he see fit; despite the fact of being only the President Elect.

Unless of course you know something that I don’t just pray for a suitable outcome to an otherwise F –Up situation.

Enough Said,

Johnny C.

Obama–our rock star--The Messiah--I sure hope he can walk the walk as well as he can talk the talk or something.Good luck !

Texas Teacher   November 26th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

The only people Obama owes politically are We, the People, who financed his campaign! I'm so very proud of that fact! For once we have a President who does not owe one single BIG Business for his campaign financing! AND he is one SMART dude! :) I'm proud to have voted for him... and to have sent my small pitance of a donation.

I'm grateful for Barack Obama and his alligance to US.... to We, the People! I'm just as proud as can be!

Nay Sayers, get thee behind us! *LOL*

alfonso guerrero   November 26th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

You are so full of arrogance and short on vision just like your PE. Today’s attack in Mumbai India and just by chance Hugo Chavez and Dmitry Medvedev reaching a nuclear accord, the timing could not be more appropriate.

In both events, it is obvious they waited for the elections to come to a resolve before carrying on with their intended plans. Now, we will never know what if, but rarely life manifests itself in coincidences. God have mercy on all of us on this Thanksgiving.

Texas Teacher   November 26th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Sorry, Commentators.... Corrected version below for all those who are so offended by a misspelled word :) :

Lilarose…. not ALL Muslims are terrorist, my dear, any more than all Christians are fanatics!

This is a sad commentary on the ignorance of so many Americans even after the election and how many times this issue was addressed. Some people simply cannot get over such bigotry! Ignorance is bliss…. sadly the rest of us have to suffer for such as this. And THIS is the section of our public that are so enamored with Sarah Palin!

Sorry, Lilarose, but if the shoe fits, wear it, my dear.

No Hillary = No Obama   November 26th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

WHERE IS GEORGE BUSH? Why is Obama's name all over the place – Bush is still the President not Obama

Craig from NC   November 26th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

This is just silly... he's not the President yet. He is just trying to act like he is in charge. He doesn't know what to do.

Proud Democrat   November 26th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

President Elect Obama is just that PRESIDENT ELECT .......at least until the inauguration.

His staff and advisors are making him look silly......we all know he has no real power or authority until January.

So please stop making him look silly!

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   November 26th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

The cowardly Muslims are at it again.......they think because they have long facial hair that they are "real men."

Real men don't take over women and children's hospitals and kill totally innocent people.

What is worse is that the Muslims living in the United States and enjoying our way of life and relative peace never speak out against their brethren.

Eric   November 26th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Lauren @ 10:11

Will you PLEASE stop being an idiot. He is STILL not the sitting president, but he has the judgement and leadership to be on top of the issues at hand. Please understand the difference between his actions and PRESIDENT Bush's (if he were to make any). Good Night!

Paul   November 26th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Sure he's playing the role to a tee. See what great coaching does for you. What concerns me is who is/are the coach(es)...

Qstorm   November 26th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Umm... Just some questions here. Barack is not the president yet. It is cool that wants to handle issues and I have no qualms with that. I just want to know where is our current president? Did I miss something? Hello? G.W.? Are you done with screwing up the christmas cards or pardoning turkeys yet? Hello?

Lauren   November 26th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Now is this not funny, from these comments, people are acting like Obama is President already, not President elect. But when I made comments somewhere else about Joe Biden saying Obama would be tested,,, I was told,, wait a minute, Obama is not in office yet?

Which is it folks???

Proud to be American   November 26th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Change has come. He is on the ball.

Chris   November 26th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I am so proud of our President Elect Obama! The intelligent appointments and responses coming from his team are such a departure from the spastic and opaque reactions that have defined this current ship of fools who still lord over our country.

Diplomacy requires planning and intelligence. Thank God we elected the smart guy.

Kevin   November 26th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

The Obama team is impressive. They don't owe anything to anyone so I guess you can spend your time responding to things.

FJ from Atlanta   November 26th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Staying on top of things, that is change I like to believe in.

Jan 20th cannot get here soon enough.

Iowa Mom   November 26th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Wow, a take charge man. I love it!

God bless all those being affected by this horrible tragedy.

Aliou   November 26th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

I don't care anymore. Obama just can ask clinton to run the oval office. What is he doing there? all his cabinet is the same old same old. count on the anti change to take charge as usual.

"oh! let me show you how to do it. you don't know how it works. you need me. You can't break the continuity...." all of this is just antirevolution.

walstreet and the others took over even before Obama was elected. They have positioned themselves everywhere. If they knew how to work the economy, why didn't they do it with gwbush?

Aliou   November 26th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

More of the same.

mitchell   November 26th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

you mean things are changing already? the nerve of barack, to be acting like the president ,while our real president contemplates his navel, during this crises. i'm sure some military advisor told him a naval brigade was on their way to help, and he spent the rest of the day wondering why his naval wasn't asked to go.

FL for Obama   November 26th, 2008 9:15 pm ET

What a take-charge leader! I'm so proud of my President-elect!

Franky   November 26th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

Hey Ed, tell the State Department and everybody else who's involve to take it easy, especially over there in India. In my personal opinion, I believe someone on the "inside" knew something. Whether someone who worked there or was involve there. I've been in this crazy game for too long and I can tell you that probably someone got "inside" infromation or something. It's just too planned to be good...

Just tell them to take it easy and keep ALL eyes and ears open. I don't know but somebody doesn't believe in trust...is just too good to get worked out pretty well.

God bless this world...

chris of STL   November 26th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

That's called quick action, PE Obama. Thank You. You will do wonders for the humanity!

God bless ...
