Obama adviser who called Clinton a 'monster' back

Power resigned from Obama's campaign earlier this year.
Power resigned from Obama's campaign earlier this year.

(CNN) - Samantha Power, the Obama foreign policy adviser who stepped down from her post earlier this year after labeling Sen. Hillary Clinton a "monster," is now working for the president-elect's transition team.

According to the Associated Press, Power is part of a team of foreign policy experts tapped by President-elect Obama to help ease the transition at the State Department - the agency Clinton is expected to head up.

Power is also formally listed as part of the State Department agency review team on the president-elect's official Web site and could directly work with Clinton should she be nominated, as expected, for the Secretary of State job.

Power stepped down from the Obama campaign in March after she called Clinton - then Obama's rival for the Democratic nomination - a "monster" and someone who "is stooping to anything." The comments came in an interview with a Scottish newspaper.

"You just look at her and think, 'Ergh,' " Power also told The Scotsman then. "The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive."

Power quickly issued an apology for the comments, but resigned her post days later.

"I made inexcusable remarks that are at marked variance from my oft-stated admiration for Senator Clinton," Power said in her resignation statement.

The Obama transition team did not comment on Power's new role.

Power is currently a professor at Harvard University and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2003 for her book, A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide. In 2004, Time Magazine labeled her one of America's top 100 scientists and thinkers.

The real story about Samantha Power is she blames the west for almost everything including genocide. Sounds like another Obama bait & switch of the kinds like his campaign finance reverso.

cut & paste this link for the real take on her:

    @ everybody hating on Shannon

Her opinion was valid. Obama has changed positions, maybe on things that are important to some people, maybe on things that aren't so important to others. He did promise to filibuster FISA and then turned right around a voted for it. I believe The Nation was quite upset about that change.

Not everyone who dislikes Obama is a racisit, just like not everyone who dislikes Clinton is sexist. It's the people who attack others with such spite that promote hate.

Let's see. Pulitzer prize, Top 100 thinker. Yeah, good call. Obama is putting the best people on his team regardless of ideology. That is what he promised to do. He has the strictest policies re: lobbyists. There is no way he could put together a strong team without former Clinton people or former lobbyists. True, Power said some stupid (yet true) things. However, she and the Obama campaign are so smart, I would not be surprised if that was a planned way of getting that statement out in public. Now, she is getting her reward for being the fall guy. That's politics folks. Regardless, she is still infinitely qualified.

To Shannon: Don't ask, Don't tell will be repealed, period. Obama has a team of former military lined up to take it down. Now is not the time. Obama realizes that ~70% of Americans named the economic crisis as their biggest concern and he is taking that on head first. The rest, including repealing the Bush tax cuts for the rich, will come sooner rather than later, just not in January. Those tax increases are a tool to reduce the deficit, not build the economy. Once the economy is back on track, you'll see those rates go back up, as promised.

If Time magazine labeled her one of America's top scientists and thinkers, she probably knew what she was doing when she called Hillary a monster.

Hey, when does Obamamessiah, the conqueror, announced his withdrawal plan from Iraq, or ex israeli soldier Rahm, wants more bloodshed.

It is unfortunate, but let's face it; the truth hurts. It should be Clinton issuing an apology to the American public.

I'm sure they are James from Chicago-

The guy has not even been sworn in yet and it's time to take back the vote.
Here's an idea....wait till he gets sworn in and give him a chance to fix this mess that the current administration made.
Give him a REAL chance because everyday I read how more screwed up the last 8 years have left us (especially Afghanistan-which looks to have been completely screwed up the last several years).

Obama the self proclaimed changer is a hoax. So far, he has not announced any change except to support prisoner saggy pants (LOL), stepped out of his chicago mansion and pretend he cares for the poor bro and sistah by giving out (not a single cent donation from him) meals during thanksgiving. He filled up his cabinet with old "bailouters" for rip off wall street.

IF she goes to the Secretary's office for a good grovel, I hope that Hillary will let her off the hook.

But I wouldn't blame her if she didn't

I have hope that Obama will keep the Clintons in check; he knows what he's doing.

Obama is choosing the brightest, and the best for his team, and not just oil executives, and investors, and college drinking buddieslike Bush picked for his cabinet .

James D wrote " I, for one, am very happy to see Hillary as SoS with Powers by her side."

lmao, well, you can stop being so excited about Powers being hired back, because she WON'T be working by Hillary's side. LOL Hillary is no dummy and she already has permission to hire her own staff.

But, we had another chance to see B O's supporters ignorance. Thanks for playing.

It's funny to see those people who voted against Change .. criticize Obama ...for not implementing it .... :)

As I have been saying for weeks .. those who didn't support Obama .. will be his harshest critics ....

Sam Powers is brilliant and I'm glad to hear that she is back.

Her words describing Obama's opponent were, strictly speaking, off the record and harsh, but not necessarily untrue.

She can be a significant contributor, and I actually would like to see her with a more significant role.

I didn't want her to exit the campaign after saying about Hillary what we were all thinking. I'm glad to see she's back. I wish she would have a larger role than the one she's playing.
