For those who think that the incumbent is the automatic nominee, that's not correct.
Generally, there is no strong primary challenge to an incumbent, but it is possible to challenge the incumbent in a primary. It's not the smartest political move, since a strong primary fight with an incumbent would divide a party. It would only be done if the incumbent's first term were disastrous. Besides, hedging his bets is not something Obama has really done. He wouldn't be worried four years from now. He's more confident than that. He doesn't want "yes" people around him. That accomplishes nothing with regards to advising him. Especially in the area of foreign policy, where he is insightful and intuitive, but inexperienced, he needs dissenting views around him for the purposes of education. Whenever I hear Limbaugh's voice on the radio, I literally have to leave the room where the radio is or I might throw it through a window. But, that being said, Rushbo, the moralizing/hypocrite/chicken hawk pill-popper with a sore on his butt which prevented him from going to Vietnam, is right.

I mean, Obama got to see all of Bill's secrets and basically tied Hillary to him and his policies...so, she can't really run against him in 2012. It's brilliant. Obama is a different type of politician, but he's still a politician. He obviously chafes at mudslinging and vitriol and he went out of his way to complement Sen McCain, but I think his political style is to tell someone to go to hell and make them enjoy the trip.

He disarms people with his personality. I remember during the Khalidi controversy and I read up on Khalidi and what he said about Obama and the one thing he said about Obama is that he'll hear you out and make you feel that he agrees with you when he doesn't. Khalidi basically thought Obama after listening to his pro-Palestine position that he was pro-Palestine but he wasn't. During the 2001 intifada, he asked a Jewish legislator friend to sign him up on a letter condemning Palestinian terror attacks. He disarms people by seeming compliant to their interests making them show their hand while he remains ambiguous to them. I like that about him. It shows he plays chess while others are taking risks by playing poker.

And by giving Hillary SOS, which I think she is qualified for since she does know many of the world leaders, he basically told her to go to hell on her 2012 ambitions while giving her a uber-powerful job that puts her under his thumb. I think she meant it when she said she wouldn't run in 2012 but Bill might have convinced her of it later on and she can't run now after being Obama's SOS.

Limbaugh isn't too far off the mark. Clinton had already reserved her website space for 2012 (in the summer of 2008). In 2016, she'll be too old to run for President. Secretary of State is the most powerful position Clinton could be endowed with. The Clintons indeed have a lot of baggage. Many voters are either too young or too unaware to know how the Clintons abused power. There are many reasons why Clinton should not be Secretary of State. But, she will do a good job so long that she doesn't make another "we're going to obliterate them [Iran]" public statement in an interview (which immediately went around the world) and her husband doesn't take any more "donations" from Arab countries. Obama has probably made a wise decision, however the Clintons will have to adjust and to get used to not being above the law if they want a positive legacy.

Why is no one questioning her credentials? Who cares if her appointment pleases though who voted for her in the primaries or causes Obama to avoid a heated primary challenge in 4 years. She's a dishonest politician who isn't the most qualified person for the job. I am troubled by Obama's choice. Clearly his call for change rings hollow.

Why is his opinion worth listening to? He's a radio talk-show host, who never even graduated from college. From what I've heard from him, (and yes, I have listened to his show) he is often wrong on the issues and he continually weaves and bends the truth out of context.
I support his right to free speech, but it's hard to believe that any rational thinker would believe that he has any credibilty and that anyone would actually listen to him. Sitting presidents are not given an automatic nomination. The Republican and Democratic primaries still take place. The questions is whether anyone from their political party will challenge an incumbent president. Knowing that half of all registered Democrats voted for her, Hillary had a very good motivation to seek the nomination again, especially if B.O.'s 1st term is not stellar.
She could then say "See, I told you he wasn't experienced enough."
Now, even if he doesn't do very well, she can't quite say that - she'll be part of the policy setting (at least as far as foreign policy).
Either way - I for one am glad to know she will be part of his administration. I voted for HIllary, and still believe she is better suited to be POTUS than he is. How can he say she has no foreign policy experience during the primaries and then nominate her for SoS?

Obama's choice of Hillary is Brilliant. Hillary may not run in 2012, however, Obama may continue in the White House for a second term. That would guarantee a Democrat in the White House, while also expanding Hillary's very experienced path into office even further by being Secretary of State. I think it's a win-win step forward to all of us. To the country, to both Obama and Hillary and to the Democratic party.
In 2016, however, it's another story. Hillary may run then, marking a historic win for Democrats in the White House for 3 full terms in a roll, while uniting this country and bringing us back from the wrong path we've been led to.

I am a little confused. Even if Obama didn't choose Hillary as the Secretary of State how could Hillary run for the nomination in 2012 as Obama will be the sitting President and Presidents are the automatic nominee?

Rush has far too much invested in Clinton-bashing to admit it publicly, but he and a lot of other conservatives are probably breathing a sigh of relief that Obama chose Hillary and not someone from the left fringe. Say whatever else about her, Hillary has been a red-tailed hawk on defense issues. What Rush is saying without saying is that putting Hillary in such a high-profile Cabinet job is also a good way to make sure Bill behaves himself, or at least tries to.
