Rove says 'marketplace of ideas' will decide Palin's fate

Karl Rove says it remains to be seen what Palin's future has in store.
Karl Rove says it remains to be seen what Palin's future has in store.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's rock-star status could solidly position her to lead the Republican Party in four years, but former top Bush aide Karl Rove said the "marketplace of ideas" will ultimately decide her political future.

"Republicans believe in markets, so the marketplace of ideas will decide what the answer [to her future] is," Rove told NBC Tuesday. "These people are going to get out there, campaign, offer their ideas, offer themselves."

Palin has declined to say whether she is officially interested in seeking the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, but has left open the possibility. Palin's popularity among the party's base and firmly established name-recognition would likely mean instant top-tier status should she decide to throw her hat into the ring.

But ultimately, Rove said, Republicans need more time to get to know Palin before embracing her as the party's future.

"Remember she was on the stage for nine weeks in the general election - that’s not a lot of time," he said. "Now we are going to get to a chance see her over a longer period of time."

Just let the markets sort it all out the Republicans say. If they are so into markets why dont they all resign as public servants and get a job at Goldman Sachs. Oh I forgat they do that after they develop their contacts.

As long as the GOP have people like Palin, I know that the Democrats will have clear sailing for the foreseeable future which makes me so so happy. I will give the GOP a hint: Get ride of the far right agendy and you might win again sometime in the future like 2024.

Lots of personal issues here – and no ideas. Why rabid-liberals awash with hateful and petty zingers think their opinions matter to the GOP is beyond me.

Problem is we do listen and all we here is (certainly probably) incoherent sentences. Plus it’s an exercise in futility trying to decipher ideas from “sound bites” because there’s never any.

I am so sick of Palin. At first I could put up with the stupidity and write it off as a bit of eye candy at best. Prolonged exposure has resulted in an absolutly sick feeling whenever I see this woman.

Karl makes a good point about only knowing Sarah Palin fo 9 weeks.

In those 9 weeks we heard more guff about her than we know actual facts about Obama today.

We're going to learn a lot about both in the next few years, much to the chagrin of the Liberals.

Faith in Der Messiah will crumble like pie crust.

I can't even keep up with how many campaign promises he's already broken and he's not even the President yet.

    Let the denial begin.

    Personal to NY Republican:

If you want to post on the blog, please do yourself a favor and get a handle on the facts.

Rove ignored a subpoena because the Bush White House told him to do so. After Holder gets in as Attorney General and digs in, I hope he goes after all the Bush Cabal because they deserve it – BIG TIME!!!!

As for the Palin backers sipping the "she energizes the party" kool-aid, just wait until the regulars in the GOP go to town on her – and they will. You can make book on it!!!

I predict that as soon as our new president is in office, we will hear no more about Caribou Barbie. I am really looking forward to that day.

Who cares about what Karl Rove thinks? Bush bought his ideas and now has the lowest approval rating ever. Karl Rove is irrelevant, and quite frankly so is Sarah Palin. The media loves her because honestly they don't know what she might say. Rove is so hated, anytime he is on television all people can see is the arrogance of the last eight years in GW Bush. Rove is a contributor on FOX news, what a surprise they would find room for him. Rove and Palin both need to go off into the sunset.

The "marketplace of ideas" will likely have her voted out of office in 2010 and she can go back to shooting moose from an airplane.

How much more time do people really need to figure out that Palin is a total moron?

Hell, even some of us Republicans are willing to admit that. We will never again be close to any kind of power if we keep propping up idiots and never admit mistakes.

Get serious. We Republicans got the whooping we so soundly deserved for fielding a terrible ticket. Never forget "you can see Russia from my State" as Gov. Palin's trump card on foriegn policy. Let this fuse burn out, and 4 years from now bring out some new blood with serious credentials.

    To John,

    You said:

"Lots of personal issues here – and no ideas. Why rabid-liberals awash with hateful and petty zingers think their opinions matter to the GOP is beyond me."

Unlike "rabid-conservatives" who are awash with love and kindness? Have you listened to Limbaugh, Coulter, Savage and Hannity the last 8 years? And apparently the American people thankfully didn't think those "rabid-conservatives" rants mattered on November 4.

GOP is in trouble because to many of them acted like Democrats, that is why we need someone who doesn't. Don't care who it is, somebody resurrect Reagan, I guess the only one who could do that now is the annointed one, and he'd just throw him under the bus once he picked his brain.

To Tom in Delaware - When was the last time anyone under 90 used the word "guff'? I think you need to take a look at what Sarah Palin has actually said instead of attributing criticism of her as "guff." I think that in her 9 weeks on the stage she proved that she can parrot what has been fed to her by her Republican handlers and that she doesn't really understand most of what she is saying. She is intellectually a lightweight and doesn't deserve the continued attention she attracts.
