Rove says 'marketplace of ideas' will decide Palin's fate

Karl Rove says it remains to be seen what Palin's future has in store.
Karl Rove says it remains to be seen what Palin's future has in store.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's rock-star status could solidly position her to lead the Republican Party in four years, but former top Bush aide Karl Rove said the "marketplace of ideas" will ultimately decide her political future.

"Republicans believe in markets, so the marketplace of ideas will decide what the answer [to her future] is," Rove told NBC Tuesday. "These people are going to get out there, campaign, offer their ideas, offer themselves."

Palin has declined to say whether she is officially interested in seeking the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, but has left open the possibility. Palin's popularity among the party's base and firmly established name-recognition would likely mean instant top-tier status should she decide to throw her hat into the ring.

But ultimately, Rove said, Republicans need more time to get to know Palin before embracing her as the party's future.

"Remember she was on the stage for nine weeks in the general election - that’s not a lot of time," he said. "Now we are going to get to a chance see her over a longer period of time."

It was only nine weeks!? It seems like a lifetime!

She's beautiful, but she's a con artist capable of saying only what is on the pre-recorded CD they put in her head.

This is not an intelligent woman and someone needs to teach her how to carry a child. A mother NEVER hauls her infant around with his/her back to "Mom". The child has no one to hold on to.

Please! The thought of the state of the union address in that whiny voice is enough to give us all nightmares.

Its obvious CNN can keep its ratings high if they keep reporting about Palin. We all like to read about her stupid comments. I am already missing her.SNL is getting boring. Come on GOP, Palin's lower IQ is not her fault, its God's fault. I hope she wins 2012 GOP nomination.

Is this women not ever going to just go away and leave the lower 48 alone. Does she really think that she is going to be prepared by 2012 to hold a national office. That's a lot of cramming to do in 4 years!

A Rock Star in the republican party's eyes is a bozo like Palin and I am glad Karl Rove has such good standing in the media. He is a criminal and like many in the Bush Administration, he should be tried and imprisoned! There is plenty of misdeeds in the Bush Administration if just someone had the guts and decency to pursue them!

She should just head back to Alaska, and leave the lower 48 in peace! If she doesn't start spending more time doing her day job, they may just get sick of her, like we did.

    To Tom in Delaware:
Who's in denial? Palin is an obvious incompetent, both in knowledge of politics and even in just basic...speaking! TO even consider supporting her would be like supporting a more vapid version of The Deciderer.
    Palin Supporters: Dumb and Dumber.

The fact that so many Republicans have made a "rock star" out of Palin makes me doubt their intelligence even more than their support of Bush did. How they can be so enthusiastic about someone who's so obviously an incompetent and amazingly corrupt dullard is just unbelievable.

It's like they're all yelling, "Hooray, we've found a turnip to be the head of our party!" You have to wonder at their level of intellect, giving savior-status to this annoying, inarticulate, sociopathic dimwit. The only hope left for the Republican party lies in those few Republicans who recognize Palin for the joke that she is. She's not even qualified to be governor of her state, which has a smaller population than Austin, Texas... much less president or vice president of this country. I'm starting to think that Republicans don't even UNDERSTAND things like economics, foreign policy, etc., and vote ENTIRELY on someone's stance on abortion. Their enthusiasm about Palin robs them of integrity.

Sarah Palin is an old republican relic. Four years into the future, we will be more evolved then we are in this cycle. If she thinks she will be viable even after the innauguration of Obama, she's wrong.

The only saving grace that the republicans have is to get rid of their religious right, anti-abortion, anti-gay, pro-ignorance and fear mongering–a la Rove, and move themselves into a more centrist direction–I think Bobby Jindal is a much better choice if they ever hope to have a future in politics. Sarah is white trash, and the smell is going to start getting pretty bad......

Oh my, must this go on & on & on?? I couldn't stand 9 weeks of seeing and hearing her during the 2008 campaign; now they want to keep her in our faces for 4 more years, then perhaps another campaign!

    God help us all!!!!!!!!!!

Rove is not answering to a SUBPEONA from the Senate; isn't that a criminal offense? Why is anything he says quoted – he should be in jail for manipulating the DOJ for political ends.

As for "Para Sailin" – not as fun a wind surfing – she needs to just go to college now, as Katie Couric said. Just go to college, dear, and learn something about the world.

Wow, the GOP is going to be out of power for a long time it looks like. What do you not get about the general election? Conservative policies are a joke? Look at the mess the country is in after nearly 8 years of conservative policies.....

  16. I Just Said Thanks, but No Thanks to Another 4 years of g.o.p. corruption, arrogance and incompetence

As the only other person to get completely fooled, mocked and punked by the Montreal radio "Masked Avengers", besides Brittany Spears, Palin would be perfect to lead the Whig, er Rushpublican, party.

Karl Rove is about as adroit as a pig with a pocketwatch.

Who is Sarah Palin? Who is Karl Rove? These two people are now completely insignificant; thank God. The Republican Party is now a dinosaur fossil; something to look back on, something to study in order to learn about how things were in the 1950s. Rich old white people. The GOP is a fossil. Good riddance, y'alls. Stick to NRA memberships and Golf Clubs. Our nation's government no longer has room for you.

OK. Everybody knows that Palin has entertainment values but nothing else. She may be a GOP cheerleader but totally out of touch of the world and its needs.

Remember Operation Chaos where Republicans were voting for Hillary? Hmm now that there is no democrat primary in 2012 and only a Republican one I wonder if we can vote for Sarah Palin in the primaries. Thank you Rush Limbaugh for a great idea. Yes what goes around come around. Palin 2012. I am sure she can talk this time at her concession speech.

Palin is enamored with her own reflection and I dont anticipate she will be out of her own spot light in the near future.
She enjoys her reflection too much.
It would help if the media would stop making it easy for her. We have much bigger issues to deal with then bothering to even discuss Palin.

Please, please, please choose Palin in 2012!!

She is the gift that keeps on giving to all but the most conservative of Republicans. Palin is so stupid, she makes Lindsey Lohan look like an Einstein. Britney Spears must think, "oh my gosh, someone stupiderer than me!"

If the Republicans wish to win elections, they need to find someone who is articulate, intelligent and can form complete sentences. Furthermore, someone who is engaged with the world around them, Palin plainly, is not.
