Rove says 'marketplace of ideas' will decide Palin's fate

Karl Rove says it remains to be seen what Palin's future has in store.
Karl Rove says it remains to be seen what Palin's future has in store.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's rock-star status could solidly position her to lead the Republican Party in four years, but former top Bush aide Karl Rove said the "marketplace of ideas" will ultimately decide her political future.

"Republicans believe in markets, so the marketplace of ideas will decide what the answer [to her future] is," Rove told NBC Tuesday. "These people are going to get out there, campaign, offer their ideas, offer themselves."

Palin has declined to say whether she is officially interested in seeking the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, but has left open the possibility. Palin's popularity among the party's base and firmly established name-recognition would likely mean instant top-tier status should she decide to throw her hat into the ring.

But ultimately, Rove said, Republicans need more time to get to know Palin before embracing her as the party's future.

"Remember she was on the stage for nine weeks in the general election - that’s not a lot of time," he said. "Now we are going to get to a chance see her over a longer period of time."

Please, Gov Palin do not make us endure you as a choice again in 2012. Not because you are a woman, not because you are an idealougue, not because you are a liar (by reframing), and not because I am jealous of you and your accomplishments (LOL). Nope it is because you incite people. Your words inctie violence and hatred from your supporters who might otherwise still be hiding in the shadows cloaking their venom. Please don't make us feel like that again...we are still recovering and it has been painful.

An America targeted by you and your supporters.

If she's lucky to get the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, she will be running against Barack Obama, who for sure will run for re-election. It looks like BO will be doing a good job and has a big chance to be re-elected.

Doesn't Sarah Palin (or her GOP backers) realize this. I think there are more more qualified GOP contenders who can challenge BO in 2012. Enough of this lady PLEASE!!!

Anyway, if she will be BO's opponent in 2012, she will be helping the OBAMA ticket get elected again.

With this idiot leading the GOP you will have to travel to a zoo to see a Republican within twenty years.

    Keep her in the news!

Palin gets under the Dems skin because she ranks with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and we all want them to vanish from the media as well!

Palin doesn't have the stomach for an 18 month candidacy with many interviews, debates, and gotcha moments.

She was a Johnny Come Lately for this election-She was on the radar for 3 months. She will wilt like a weed under intense media scrutiny next time around.

Besides, Crist, Jindal, Pawlenty, etc. will make her look like a dumb-dumb. (Which she is.)

But go ahead Republicans! Pretend she is your future. You have lowered your standards!

Run Sarah Run! I want to see you make a fool of yourself again-except this time for 18 months!!!!

Palin is a gutsy, smart woman with an eye on the main chance. She's not really been in a job long enough to gain any of the skills needed to become a major figurehead in this country but she certainly has a good marketing team behind her. It's a bit like selling any commodity: it's all in the packaging and promotion, doesn't matter whether or not it works.

You mean, anyone still cares what Karl Rove thinks? I thought he had been finally exposed as the national disgrace now. As for Palin, I agree with a certain editor who states Palin is so bent upon remaining in the public eye that we can soon expect see her opening supermarkets.

I will not vote for her even she is the last political person on earth because of the same reasons people comments above.

As Republicans calculate the damage Kitty Palin did to their ticket, they will act accordingly: give her some sort of figurehead position with no real power. There are still a few Republican stalwarts with their pragmatic wits about them.

Are we out of canidates? Do I really have to watch this person carry on again?
Who was she before August 08, no one knew, no one cared.
Maybe she should try a few years in Senate first.

Come on! She cant even complete a sentence without....you know...hesitating....and then ....using that time....to try and pull it together because she was cluesless and had no real answer.

haha Never! No way! Go away!

OMG please go back to alaska and run your state. You have problems such as how your statesmen are going to deal with paying their home heating bills. Do what you were elected to do be Governor of Alaska.

... and the nine weeks onstage showed what a disastrous candidate she is. Even campaigning in Georgia yesterday, she stuck her foot in her mouth AGAIN:

"We want to make sure we have at least 41 Republicans in the United States Senate to make sure that we shape bad legislation."

At least she's more honest these days.

the stupidity of the American voter will determine Sarah Palin's future. How many dumb people would actually vote for this airhead?

Pretty funny someone's comment of Palin in two words: Trailer Trash. She sure dresses up well but there's not much in that brain other than an amazing ability to railroad right over anyone who is in her way.

If she didn't present such a respect for life while ignoring environmental concerns, having wolves shot from the air, and shortchanging the plight of the polar bears, I might dislike her a little less, but not much. No, on second thought, she's already made her impression on me and there isn't any good in it at all.

I'm not too interested in a Sarah Palin run at the presidency and I'm from Alaska, but saying she doesn't give a good speech is ignoring the facts. She had a larger viewership for her acceptance speech than Obama did. Saying she knows nothing about the constitution is interesting coming from a Dem because if you knew anything yourself (Micheline) you wouldn't be a dem! Remember it was Justice Thurmond Marshal (Dem) who said the constitution was nothing more than a rag written by a bunch of white slave owners. The only thing Dems use the constitution for is to protect sin (various types) and the only freedom they support is the freedom to sin. "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" they are not interested in that stuff.

ObreakUS won ONLY because of race. He doesn't have the necessary experience to be a Senator much less President of the United States! Give it a rest people.

My hope is that all of you who voted for ObreakUS will be the FIRST to suffer under his stupidity!!

Palin has SOOOOOO much more intellect that 'That One'. HA

Jan. 20th – ObreakUS slithers into office.
Jan. 21st – Impeachment proceedings begin to kick it out!! Yes.

I thought the "fat man" had already sung. I must have missed that last aria. Palin and Rove have quite a bit in common. By choice I will not bore anyone with the details, just to say, enough already with these two misplaced petenders.

What ever happened to all the clothes (including underwear!) which, according to Palin, were forced on her, her husband, and their children by the Republican National Committee? And how about the charges she requested on staff members' credit cards?

By ALL means, let's hope the Republicans rally around Palin as their standard bearer – for years to come. Let's keep her deeply intelligent and erudite responses on the front page of the Politics section. Maybe we can get daily weather reports for Russia from her. Let's not forget for one moment just how close we came to having this moron one geriatric heartbeat removed from the Oval Office!
