The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President and Mrs. Bush will be moving to Dallas after Mr. Bush leaves office, the White House announced Thursday.  “The President and Mrs. Bush have purchased a home in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas, Texas,” Sally McDonough, Mrs. Bush’s press secretary, said in the statement.

The Bushes lived in Dallas from December 1988 through January 1995. They moved to Austin after Mr. Bush was elected Texas governor in November 1994.  The president was partial owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team during part of their time living in Dallas.

During the latter part of Bush’s presidency, the first lady had made it known that Dallas would be their primary residence after leaving the White House, not the president’s beloved Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

“I like Crawford,” the president told a crowd at a Houston fundraiser in July.  “Unfortunately, after eight years of asking [the first lady] to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker.”  The Bushes will continue to spend some time at the ranch, according to the statement.

As to the specifics of their new home, the Bushes “do not have occupancy of the home, and therefore, no additional details will be provided,” McDonough said.

I'll bet Ole Bush will be livin large – he'll buy another huge mansion to add to his collection while the rest of us struggle! He's a waste of air!

Of course....Bush & Larua could care less if you or I have a home & a job. They are special, they are better than the rest of us! Bush & his family will ride off into the sunset and live the good life in one of his several houses while main street Americans lose it all! I hope some day he pays for what he's done!

Good luck to President Bush and first lady Laura Bush. Good Luck to our new President Barack and first lady O'Bama.
We live in a capitalist society that sorts out the weak and those unable to compete in the market place. No one can escape that inevitabliity and as such it is tough to be a working American. It is literally dog eat dog in our real world and more government or a controlling government is not the answer. Check the United Soviet Socialist Republic and see the society they finally lost.

Lesson learned. Even President Bush wishes he would have never gotten started in the the Iraq "War" bad information? Well folks, we should always look very closely at our politicians what they stand for, I think in the future politicians are going to have to be held to higher standards as are we!

Mr President,

I didn't vote for you in 2000. I didn't vote for you in 2004, when you proved that you represented the majority of Americans. . So, even though I disagreed with many of your policies, until January 20, you are my President. I disagree with you on many issues, but I respect the office you were elected to, and I respect you as my President.

I am saddened that many of my fellow citizens (many of whom I am sure voted for you 4 years ago) have chosen to disrespect you. However, as for me, I will honor you, just as I honor those who have served in the Oval Office before you, regardless of my perspective on their policies.

Enjoy your retirement.

Hey George old Buddy! I am just down the road from the ranch. Mind if I get the keys and go fishing for a few days? You gonna rent it out, maybe? I hear Palin is looking for another deer lease. You won't miss a few deer (and maybe one ranch hand if Chaney comes along). And if Rumsfeld is still alive and unemployed, he can always sell firewood and pecans off the side of the road.

megalodonbite

As I mentioned in numerous posts, I voted for Obama. I just want people to articulate themselves better. Thinks like "send him to prison" are really pointless.

Legitimate criticisms of the Bush administration regarding the Katrina response, the run-away debt, and his role in promiting policies of general de-regulation on wall street are all genuine and well deserved.

I am always careful to mention that there is blame on both sides of the aisle. Congress (majority Democrats since 2004) gave Bush all the money he wanted. Many members of the Republican party other than Bush threw away their small government, fiscal responsibility stance in favor of pupulist BS in a feeble attempt to stay in power.

First: There is no reason to call me an idiot but if it makes you feel better, I understand.

Second: I am not saying that Bush was a good President, or that he didn't lie. I am not saying that I am a Bush supporter. For the record, I was in 2000, abstained from voting in 2004, and voted for Obama in 2008.

Third: Lying is not a war crime. If it is, we would be out many politicians on both sides of the aisle.

The only possible avenue to persue the war crimes line would be for the prisoners at Gitmo. As I mentioned in another post, the Justice Department challenged the definition of prisoner of war and believe that it does not apply to non-uniformed terrorists.

Hannity always said you Obama supporters were so bitter....You won...you should be so happy and joyful this time of the year but instead you are so full of anger and hatred. At least accept the fact that you and your children and grandchildren have been safe over the past seven years because of George Bush. If for no other reason, give him that credit. Maybe you will only realize how important that is if God forbid we have another 9-11. Why can't you enjoy your victory??? Maybe the truth is you are feeling a bit jaded as the "change" that was promised may not be coming....Someone from Texas who is glad to receive the Bush's back.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!

If President George W. Bush is so bad ,why haven't Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid layed those articles of impeachment on Bush that they drew up a couple years ago just before the mid-term elections??? Lot's of show and pagentry but no substance. Everything he did to protect us from another terrorist attack was legal and voted on and okayed by our next Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Deal with it because Bush will never be charged with anything illegal!!!

Mark, Vancouver WA   December 4th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

No matter how you personally feel about Bush, you give the presidency too much importance – the last time I looked, we had three branches in our government. However, throughout history we have always tended to blame the president in office for our current problems, rarely looking at the previous administration or what Congress allowed to happen. Maybe we can stop bashing and blaming each other and try to actually figure a way out of all of our current crises – ones created by a multitude of people!

Doug from Allentown, PA   December 4th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

First: I have a BS in Biology and an MS in Computer Science, so I guess that means I am educated.

Second: I live in town (a city of 100,000 or so) and I have never been called a redneck.

Third: I voted for Obama. Not because I agree with everything he says. Just as I don't disagree with everything that Bush says.

Fourth: "...study after study..." means nothing to me. I am sure that there are just as many studies that may show it works. I also question who actually performed those studies. Probably groups like Amnesty International.

Don't get me wrong. Torture should NOT be taken lightly. I also have no doubt that some may have gone too far. Individual people always do. I am just enough of a realist to know that torture is something that civilized nations deplore when asked but they ALL use it when they feel there is no other way.

You people REALLY think the world loved us before George Bush? The fact is most of the world has always hated us, still hates us, and will continue to hate us. There are many reasons for it. Some are justified and some are not.

Now I imagine a few nations may be "more upset" with us because of Iraq/Afghanistan. Pakistan is a good example, as I imagine is Iran.

Note that Bush did not send us to war in Iraq nominally because of or immediately after 9/11. That was Afghanistan, where we knew and still know that the Taliban were allowing safe-haven for Al-Qaeda. Clearly you were not paying attention to events at the time and haven't brushed up since.

Dear Jessica:

"...The Geneva Conventions pertain primarily to enemy-combatants and P.O.W.s, which is why they are applicable to Guantanamo..."

Congratulations. You are the first one to at least try and give a specific example. You may be interested in knowing that the Justice Department lawyers (correctly or incorrectly) determined that the Geneva convention does not apply since these individuals do not have a uniform, and are not serving in the armed services of a nation which the US is at war with.

Now, you might say that is a mighty convenient play on words, but it is a legal matter that "reasonable people" could disagree on. I for one don't believe it applies to terrorists.

I support my President, Dem or Rep although my values tend to be more Rep-oriented. Still, I cannot for the life of me understand so much hatred against opposing political parties.

I haven't been affected that much by the ailing economy because:
1) I positioned myself well in the workforce
2) I was never tempted by easy money to refinance my home
3) I live within my means and am prepared for a "rainy" day

I believe this is my responsibility as a citizen of the United States of America and as a member of my state and community. It may sound simplistic but the more complicated you make your life, what do you expect?

I can't believe someone compared the attack on Pearl Harbor with the attack of 9/11. The ONLY comparison there is that one was they were the last two times we have been attacked on our native soil (well, that term is relative to say the least...I certainly accept any criticism from all those who debate that statement).

Pear Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941:
Six aircraft carriers launch close to 400 planes sending in two waves of strikes against the US Pacific Fleet. Result and Aftermath: Approximately 2400 people die. 4 Battle ships are sunk and close to 200 planes are destroyed. America enters world war II. Raises 3 of the 4 ships and returns 2 of them to fight in battle near the close of the war. Pearl Harbor back and operational with in MONTHS of the attack. Fights and wins wars on both sides of her shores, fighting against countries in a GLOBAL war, against modern weaponry of the time. Time in war...FIVE YEARS from the time America enters the war, it comes to a close. Multiple nations encountered on the battlefield, and defeated by the GREATEST GENERATION EVER!

Sep 11, 2001:
4 planes are hijacked. Our president given warnings dating back to his president elect status, is still, somehow, caught off guard. Oh well, he can't guard against 4 planes, we know...it's a BIG job to do that! Result and Aftermater: about 2400 dead. We enter the war on terrorism in Afghanistan. Get diverted by reports of WMD's, jump into Iraq, no wmd's...we stay anyway. Hussein govt toppled, we stay anyways. Bin Laden, and al Qaeda...7 years later, still partying it up. No result, no victory, still in war, still not going after the people who bombed the building...simply doing nothing but killing our men and women until someone smart comes into office.

Bush, in way, shape or form, can EVER be compared to FDR (or any other good president...EVER...he failed in biblical proportions. FOUR PLANES for gods sake! How incompetent do you have to be?)

Dear Doug,
The Geneva Conventions pertain primarily to enemy-combatants and P.O.W.s, which is why they are applicable to Guantanamo Bay. Criticism about Bush’s refusal to adhere to them is not simply liberal mud slinging. If anyone understands the personal horror and political consequences of torture it is John McCain. He fought to ban the use of torture at Guantanamo because he knew what OUR troops would face in retaliation. The most recent consequence of our refusal to respect the lives of innocent civilians has been the terrorists in Mumbai asking specifically for American hostages.

"Bush was the first President to have a USA-mainland attack since Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. Franklin D Roosevelt was in office at the time.

On Pearl Harbor, the USA deaths were 2,300 something compared to the 2,700 something of the World Trade Center towers.

Did the president then get blamed for the atomic bombs being dropped Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

That was far more devasating than anything President Bush has done."

Please consider that when the Japanese attacked the USA, FDR went on the attack against Japan, and defeated them. George Bush's USA was attacked by al Quaeda, and instead, he went on the attack against Iraq, where they have never found any sign of WMD's or al Quaeda leadership that planned 9/11. That would have been like FDR attacking Indonesia instead of Japan, and after 7 years of war, still leaving Japan free to continue attacking the USA. As another poster commented, and Gen. Sherman originally said, "War is hell" and it should NEVER be entered into without absolute necessity. Bush started a war against Iraq that was not only not necessary, but it has kept us from finding and punishing the real instigator of the 9/11 attacks.

I wouldn't have minded one bit if Bush had nuked the caves where bin Laden was hiding. But to start an unnecessary war, causing death and injury to thousands of American soldiers, and even more Iraq civilians, and to let the worst attack against the USA since Pearl Harbor go unavenged – well, the words stupid and incompetent do seem to apply.

By the way, did the Bushes get a good deal on a mortgage? Did Paulson co-sign?

Corey Gabriel   December 4th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

The only place Bush, Cheney, Alberto, Rumsfield and the other should be going is to jail for their treasonous betrayal of our Constitution, violations of their oaths of office, lying about something more important than a blow job (that's why they impeached Clinton...remember?), and their war crimes. BUT NO......no one is ever going to be held accountable or responsible for the mis-deeds and crimes committed by the Bush administration and its cronies. May they all rot in hell.

@Maarlene: "Good luck to George and Laura you did the best you can. Were all not perfect"

are you serious? EVERY President does the "best he can". The problem is that in Bush's case, it was a very poor job. Bush is already recognized by most historians and analysts as one of the, if not the, worst President in history. An economy in shambles (no, it's not all his fault), an unnecessary war, attacks on civil liberties, torture, signing statements (ie, a refusal to obey the law), a total lack of competence and willingness to analyze issues in depth.....the list goes on and on.

I don't wish bad things for him. But, his administration was a disgrace.

Facts on the economy woes:
During the 12 years of rule by 2 Republican presidents Reagan and H.W. Bush, our national debt quadrupled. That is it quadrupled over the national debt accumulated during the rule of 39 Presidents and 205 year history of our country.
During the 7 years of W. Bush presidency, he single handed doubled our national debt. The budget deficit alone for this fiscal year exceeds the entire national debt of our country at the time Reagan took office.
As of Nov 4, 2008, 78% of countries national debt was accumulated under 3 Republican Presidents (Reagan, Bush and Bush). The remaining 22% of our national debt was accumulated under 39 other Presidents combined.
During Clinton's 8 years the stock market increased 324%. During 8 years of W. Bush the stock market has declined 76%. Heck it took 3 years and 4 months for the stock market to close 5 consecutive days above the point the stock market was it when W. Bush took office.
The longest recession since 1920s under W. Bush, 2nd longest under H.W. Bush, 4th longest under Reagan. Number of recessions under Clinton: 0.
This is why our country is in the predicament that it is in.

@Texan

Just be sure to remember, it took an entire japanese fleet with hundreds of planes to pull off an attack against the USA under FDR. They had to attack an island, only one location was attacked. We went to war with Japan and Germany whom were openly allied in a WORLD WAR!

Bush, the bright young chap, failed to stop less then 5 planes on his attack. Not hundreds, not a fleet of ships...FIVE PLANES were too much for him to handle!

In WW2 we entered and won the wars, on two fronts, in 4 years. Bush, the super hero, exits office with no victory, 7 years later and his inability to get something done will be his lasting legacy (that and the deficit, and torture, and wire tapping, taking our freedoms away at will and with out remorse). The people that we STARTED going after...well, gee, he just simply GAVE UP chasing them and jumped into an illegal war. When no WMD's were found he tap danced around and gave us a never ending line of excuses for being there. Always happy to send more of our sons and daughters off to the slaughter house for his illegal war!

Bush, has failed in every way, shape and form. He is a TERRIBLE president plagued by incompetence, stupidity, ignorance and stubborness. It is a joyous moment in our history to see this moron leave the white house. Once again our pride can be restored, knowing we finally got a SMART guy in office.

I wish the Bushes best of luck with their move to Dallas. I think he was a terrific president. He did whatever anyone would have done after reading those intelligence memos. Obama's move to the center is a clear indication of the inside threats that we face.
He was right on foregin policy and Gitmo, I would double the size of gitmo. Economy is cyclical, we have ups and downs. He happened to be president when we are going through the down. I don't think he should get blame for wall st corruption and greed.
And, we didn't have any attacks in 7 years. He should get credit for that too.

All you dittoheads that voted for Bush twice and are now saying "history" will prove him to be a good President, your just saying that to make yourselves feel better because of all the damage on America your vote caused. Currently, his standing is worse than Nixon, who would have thought that was possible.

For, the record, Preston Hollow is not the MOST expensive place in Dallas, that would be Highland Park and University Park, known locally as the Park Cities, Preston Hollow would probably be considered the second most expensive, altho, it is more of a subdivision as opposed to a municipality like the Cities.

Clarence, OR   December 4th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Interesting how all the radical right members say that losing ones house is because we bought something we could not afford. let me give oyu some simple FACTS

1) due to a local manufacturer closing, because the supplied parts to an auto manufacturer who cut production, the number of homes on the market quadrupled in the last three months
2) due to the increase in houses on the markets and the general overall failure of the housing market the value of the average home in my area has dropped 60% from 5 years ago.
3) Since I owe more than my house is now worth I cannot get further credit to move into a less expensive house
4)Since there are so many people in my area with the same qualifications the salaries offered those who can get a job are significantly reduced from what they were just a year ago
5)I cannot move to a different location because I cannot afford to sell my house (I put 20% down 5 years ago have made extra payments each month but you see I cannot afford to pay the 30% of the value of the home when I bought it out of my pocket, my savings and 401 are almost already depleted)
6) My mortgage was a standard fixed rate 30 loan with 20% down, I was making good money but now cannot afford to keep OR SELL my house
7)The republicans deregulated the banking industry, it had nothing to do (in my case) with fannie may or freddie mac it had to do with the deregulations of the banking industry
8) SO HOW DARE YOU SAY LOSING MY HOUSE IS SOMEHOW MY FAULT! RIGHT NOW I AM WORKING TWO JOBS AND CANNOT MAKE ENDS MEET, A YEAR AGO I HAD A SAVINGS ACCOUNT WORTH 3 MONTHS PAY NOW ALMOST NOTHING. Am I angry at the republicans? YES and I angry that their leader (bushie) KNEW of this impending market crash 2 years ago (see the NY Post two days ago) but decided not to act because he believed it would work itself out Dam right I am, am I pissed at the Democrats for not doing something about it? He** yes also. I voted against the policies I saw during the bush era, I voted AGAINST a return to the Clinton policies also, I voted for someone who is not either of them, who has a different solution. Am I sure it will work? NO but I AM sure it will work better than either the liar hillary's plan would have worked (bubba got lucky economically) or the idiot bushies plans as they are (give money to wall street and the banks so they can butress their bottom line and hold more cash in reserve so the average person sees no benefit other than their bank will not change its name). So how about you members of the radical religious right and the loonie left shut up for a while and actually look at what has gone on in this country it is the bickering between you two groups that has made it almost impossible for our representative to work things out! if a democrat talks with a Republican or a Republicna talks with a Democrat to try to reach a concensus you cry they are not partisan enough for oyu and vote them out.

There's no doubt that Bush has been the worst president in recent history, even stretching back to the beginning of the 20th century. But he isn't the worst ever (Buchanan, folks). And maybe instead of looking to him as the creator of your problems and as someone to blame, look inside yourself and question why you're actually accusing him. No, I'm not a conservative or a Bush supporter, but the bellicosity some of you have towards him is unfounded and the result of inaccuracies and false presumptions.

"Study: False Statements Preceded War

Email this Story

Jan 22, 9:17 PM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) – A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

He lied us into war and is responsible for every single Iraqi civilian and American GI death. He is a war criminal and should spend the rest of his life rotting in a cell.

Jim in Miami   December 4th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

The Obamadrones won the election but their seems to be no end to their emotional, uninformed anger. Anger combined with no understanding of history and even less understanding of business/economics is a sad brew.

War-crimes? Try examining the challenges of combat outside the conventional military framework. Bush approach to enemy combatants mirrored FDRs – and let's remember the traditional term was partisan and treated with summary executions. If we had the same media and weak spined public in June 1944, we would have surrendered when we got bogged down and took thousands of casualties in Normandy.

Cause of the Economic Crisis – take a hard look at the Democrats – this brew is solely on the heads of Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. The Bush administration and Republicans in both the House and Senate consistently attacked this 'full housing' subterfuge. Get real, people – the very policies Obama advocates are of the same ilk that created this mess – with a heavy dose of public responsibility, I dare say, by the very same Obama supporters who want something for nothing or whose hearts bleed for every person who is irresponsible. Where Bush went most wrong was when he emulated Dems with entitlements such as Medicare Part D.

Bush did not destroy the country – he dealt with one of history's biggest challenges and they won't have been challenges if they were easy. But don't worry. The pixies dust will clear and the reality that even the 'great' Obama can't give you the free, entitled life you want may serve as an abject lesson.

I found that rather ironic given the fact that Dubya is the least successful President in history. I think it's a pattern! GOOD RIDDANCE!

I'll try to make this really simple.

Bush is responsible for 4100 needless deaths and 35,000 wounded and Obama isn't.

Bush presided over an economic disaster, Obama didn't.

Bush allowed the perpetrators of 9/11 to remain free, Obama didn't.

He should never tell where he is moving to. The liberal Democrat in this country has degraded to the point that I would say that 1 out of every 3 or 4 would seriously look to at least cause him harm, probably try to kill him, if they knew where he was living.

Seriously, put the average lib in a room with a gun with one bullet and Bush and Bin Laden. Easily 9 out of 10 would take out Bush instead of Osama, oh and they like to call themselves tolerant, ha ha!!!

Do you know who attacked us on 9/11? I can tell you – al Qaeda, not Saddam Hussein. Then why is al Qaeda still around after these years? Is that a failure by Bush administration? The case for 9/11 must have a closure. Unless you can connect the dot that war on Iraq is related to eliminate al Qaeda, then war on Iraq is unjustified, period.

Torture is a natural tool?

Yeah, I care. Because unlike you, I know that the civil rights you take for granted are, in fact, extremely fragile. You think they are strong enough to make an exception here or there. They aren't, and bit by rationalized bit, the exception becomes the rule. And you won't realize it (because you can't conceive of such a thing) until you're the one strapped in the chair.

"...But the fact of the matter is, if banks were not allowed to lend to these people, and it was common sense for them to not lend to them, we would not be in this mess..."

Exactly. This is why Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and all of the other Dem crooks that took huge sums of campaign money from Fannie and Freddie to look the other way need to be held accountable for this. They demanded that Fannie and Freddie increase their holdings in so-called sub-prime loans. Thus creating this whole mess.

Don't get me wrong. To start with, Fannie and Freddie were pissed. They didn't want to do business in the poor (code word for heavy minority, urban) neighborhoods. Then they figured out that they could charge higher interest and re-sell forclosed homes for a profit (when the market was better) they were on board HUGE.

I am not saying that Bush had nothing to do with our current mess, but I am saying that he certainly isn't the only one. He isn't even the most culpable.

Charles Atlanta   December 4th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

To "Doug at Allentown"...
Starting a war must have a solid reason. That's our nation's high standard. The problem of war on Iraq is the reason keeping change – 9/11(Iraq is nothing to do with 9/11), WMD (cannot find it), libration of Iraq (Iraqi think we are invader not librator),... Yes. Saddam is a dictator and he is bad. Fighting terriost is totaly different than fightlight a dictator. That's why al Qaeda is still alive and the whole world becomes more dangerous.

Katrina is another example of poor judgement by Bush. And Bush double our national debt to 10+ trillions and keep growing. That's all part of his legacy.

Bush buys a second home while, thanks to his disastrous economic policies, many Americans are fighting to keep their one home. Many are losing that fight. Once again, Dubya shows he is only concerned about himself. One thing you can say about Bush, he makes Millard Fillmore look like a statesman.

ConsiderThis, FL   December 4th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

For the life of me I can't see how anybody can sympathize with Bush. "He did a good job." "He kept us safe." "He did the best he could." I want to puke. This criminal has almost destroyed this country in 8 short years and of all people, he'll be rewarded with a fabulous home and happiness ever after. If he lives to be 1,000 he'll collect a big, fat pension form us – taxpayers. Just like the CEOs of the Big 3, he should give the American taxpayers back his pension and take $1 a year. Those works are so inspiring and well thought out. I am so impressed by your command of the English language. Those are truely words that inspire unity and instill confidence in me that we will all come together as a country.

I will pose the challenge to you pinhead. Tell me what war crimes that Bush performed. Give me specifics. Don't spin some BS liberal party line about an un-just war. All wars are un-just in someone's eyes. Calling someone a war criminal is a very serious charge. Tell me you have examples.

In WWII, the allies firebobmed the city of Dresden in Germany and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians. They deliberately used fire bombs on Tokyyo to maximize civilian casualtees. Are these not war crimes? Why did we not charge FDR and Truman? I won't even mention Korea and Vietnam.

Fact is fact folks. War is cruel and messy. Torture is also a natural tool to be used. Tell me... deep down inside... do you really care about some prisoner in Gitmo getting water-boarded or are you just looking for more venom to fling at Bush? If Obama uses these tactics, would it be okay? Would you really question it?

I don't disagree with some of the comments about people who are being foreclosed on bearing some of the responsibility. But the fact of the matter is, if banks were not allowed to lend to these people, and it was common sense for them to not lend to them, we would not be in this mess. you're always going to have people who are willing to sign up for money even if it is a stretch to pay it back. But if we had the regs that said, sorry no can do, this would not have happened. Banks are in a much better position to control real estate costs also and make sure they do not stray too far from mean or median income in a given area. Instead of helping to keep this balance, they decided they needed someone; anyone on the hook for the inflated home prices sellers were charging. And I hope the Bushes close early. They should go to the bowels of Texas and not come out.

If i were Laura, I'd tell GW to go ahead and live on the "ranch", and I would stay in Dallas. :-)
BTW, Preston Hollow is a pretty pricey neighborhood– but I wouldn't live there if they GAVE me a house. Streets are narrow & crowded & poorly laid out. Traffic & congestion are horrible in that area. And a (former) Presidential motorcade should make it even worse! (His neighbors should really be loving him in about 2-3 months.)
I have to admit– I was scared he might actually look in our area because there are a lot of mega-million dollar homes in our little town right on the verge of foreclosure (not mine– it's not mega-millions nor anywhere near foreclosure). He could have gotten a real buy on a much newer home with a lot more land though– and surrounded by professional sports jocks (which would probably have been right up his alley). Thank God he didn't come here!

Texan   December 4th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Years from now, you all who are against Bush, will be eating your words, when it comes out the Democrats caused most of the economic woes we're facing. Obama made $125,000 in the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac business. Senator Dodd even more, but still an undisclosed amount.

Bush was the first President to have a USA-mainland attack since Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. Franklin D Roosevelt was in office at the time.

On Pearl Harbor, the USA deaths were 2,300 something compared to the 2,700 something of the World Trade Center towers.

Did the president then get blamed for the atomic bombs being dropped Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

That was far more devasating than anything President Bush has done.

Usually you only hear about Hiroshima, but it was 2 major cities, with Nagasaki being the second one. And those bombings occurred 4 years later, in August of 1945. An estimated 140,000 people were killed in Hiroshima, and an estimated 80,000 in Nagasaki. Harry S Truman ordered those bombings. Japan surrounded 6 days later.

Wake up and smell the coffee, people.

Be grateful you are allowed to post opinions and live in a free country, regardless of your view on life or political party.

If the catalyst that tips our economy is the failure of Fannie and Freddie, two organizations Democrats have been forcing to loan money to people who could never possible repay it, then I believe there is equal blame to go around.

For the real thinkers. If Obama ends up using Secretary Gates to conduct the war on terror in basically the exact same way as Bush, will you hate him too?

His only post-White House home should be a prison cell.

DA   December 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Makes you almost feel sorry for Dallas. I don't care what Rove's spin is, W. Bush is the worst president EVER. He really aught to be going to jail, not a new house.

own up   December 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

This daily elementary level Bush bashing on CNN article comments is growing tiresome. Why do I continue to read? I don't know, the sociologist in me is always curious to observe all of these people who think they have it figured out...that Bush is some sort of moron compared to them. Well, it must be nice to be above the President of the United States!

Life is so simple when you can blame all of your problems on somebody else, especially if it's just one other person – Bush. I wonder where the blame will shift once Bush is long out of office? Those of you who think Bush is solely responsible for all of your sorrows, you have serious information deficiencies.

The Bushes bought a house, whooptie frickin do. Get over it you cry babies.

RZA   December 4th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I never voted for Bush, even when he ran for Governor of Texas, but I wish him a happy retirement-

Can't say that I'll miss you though :)

jon   December 4th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

bronson......what world are you living in? what freedoms have we been able to enjoy? the freedom to be wire tapped? the freedom to die in an unjust war? the freedom to be beat down during protests outside of the RNC? the freedom to lose as much money as possible? the freedom to go to a hospital and be charged unsurmountable prices for relatively cheap work and medicine? GET OUT OF YOUR BOX

Luke Brown, Charleston SC   December 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

I wish there was some way they could get out of Washington now ... I'll miss Laura but I will be dancing naked in the streets the moment George is outta there for good.

Independent Voter   December 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

His new home should be in prison along with Karl Rove and Dick Cheney

Betty the Beautician   December 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

President Bush looks so old. There is no way I'd ever want to be President. Not worth it. All the money in the world can't give him peace. And he has none. Sad.

NW   December 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Truly sorry, Texas...

Shawn   December 4th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Poor Dallas :(

It must be humiliating to be GW Bush's choice. My sympathies.

NW   December 4th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Sorry, Texas...

Andrew B   December 4th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

He should move to prison where he belongs.

NickNas   December 4th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

The CON has been completed. All of you good ole boys just found out thatyou have been HAD! Bush has ALWAYS been a pretend Cowboy and he has ALWAYS looked down on you like you were trash!

Thank you for being so GULLIBAL!!

C Spurgeon   December 4th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Wonder where they got all the money..richest part of Dallas, richest texans in the neighborhood. All Presidents should be audited coming and going. He made a lot of money somewhere in the last 8 years.

Oh well at least hes gone and cant do any more damage to the country as a whole. He can go sit and sulk about being one of the worst ever and blame everyone else.

BONEHEAD   December 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

He stole enough so now he can spend after 8 years. Goodbye.

frank. NC   December 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Why is able to right into the sunset after he has pretty much single handedly destroyed this country and its reputation.

GEORGE W. BUSH – THE WORST PRESIDENT EVERRRRRR!!!!!!

Jayson in San Diego   December 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

I've just wasted 1 min of my time reading and then replying to this article. Who cares about Bush anymore? Certainly not I.

marcus   December 4th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Just think, the city of Dallas will have one more arrogant, over-egoed, not very smart at all, ex-president who really thinks that he has done nothing wrong at all during his tragic eight years in office. I feel for you, citizens of Dallas. Better you than me.

Allen   December 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

I'm so happy for the bushes! I was worried that they wouldn't be able to afford a new home and all. I mean gosh we wouldn't want the lovey bushes to be homeless or something worse. Merry f–king Christmas to the bush family, may you choke on your morning lattes.

Matt, Chico, CA   December 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

What makes me sick is the way people harbor so much hate for Bush but then get mad when people harbor hate for Obama

Angie   December 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

I hope he can sleep in his new house, with all the money he stole from the Americans(through jobs lost, high gas & food prices). he is such a loser. good riddence to bad ruddish.

President Barack Obama   December 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

ZZZZZZ ZZZ ZZZZZZZZ Z ZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Who cares..... Remember, what comes around goes around!!!

Michael   December 4th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Thanks for keeping America and the world a safer place President Bush.
It won't take more than 6 months of Obama presidency before you will be missed. Iraq will fall apart, Russia will invade Georgia or Ukrain to take them back and US will have a terriost attack on our soil. All because the bad guys out there know Obama will only talk and will take no strong action. Economy of US and world will spiral into depression.

Enjoy retirement.

kelly WI   December 4th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

So, some dummies who bought homes out of their price range, etc. are blaming Bush for that too.
Where's all that sweet liberal tolerance.?
Presidents don't control private sector businesses. But the congress can sure regulate and tax them out of business.
Since Obama is following Bushes foreign policy, you better not be bashing Bush.

John, Air Force Vet   December 4th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

I'd pay higher prices to have the guy – exit stage left and not relocate in my city.

leave the bushes in peace, president bush im sure has done the best he can do with the tools he was given. i am a strong Obama supporter because i have since shifted my party. Bush i believe was one of hte best presidents we have had, think about all the freedoms we have enjoyed because of him, he showed the world that we will retaliate if you attack us, i believe he gave America a backbone it long needed! GREAT JOB MR PRESIDENT, ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT!

Nice to know at least one american is in good enough financial shape to purchase a mansion. I guess after eight years of holding hands with "special" interest buddies, he's going to be very well taken care of.

C L   December 4th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

Al   December 4th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Barbara...are yor REALLY starving??? REALLY???

Matt   December 4th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

I tend to think she told him he wasn't allowed to make any decisions because of how all the decisions he made over teh past 8 years turned out, not just because they're taking turns.

Unemployed   December 4th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

I'm glad he's able to buy a home while the rest of us are losing ours!! I liked his joke about how he knows how it feels to lose a (white) house and a job... NOT FUNNY YOU MORON!

obama-mama   December 4th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Well hopefully they won't go into foreclosure like the people on mainstreet...It must be nice to completely screw up an entire country with a war that was not needed and still cannot be explained, then have Christmas parties and then buy a brand new home. It's as if he robbed us and is rubbing it in our face. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G....

4....showing total disrespect for our laws, liberties, and constitution,

Average Joe   December 4th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Is George going to condem the property, find a loser sports team and have the taxpayers of Texas buy the team build the house and then sell his interest in the property like he did with the Texas Rangers? This guy and his crew are the worst demonstration of politics with no ethics. I for one can not wait for him to be GONE!!! Even though I did not vote for Obama, because of his lack of experience, even he will be a breath of clean fresh air. I hope Obama, is a good President we do deserve that much as a nation.

GOOD BYE GEORGE THE RAIL IS WAITING TAR AND FEATHERS ARE A GO. JUST GO AWAY YOUR KIND OF POLITICS GIVES INCOMPETENT, A NEW DIFFINITION AND FELLA IT IS LOWER THAN A TEXAS OILMAN, except T.Boone I do like him.

You keep staying home and posting on CNN.com all day and I will keep giving you my hard-earned tax dollars so you do not have to work. YOu liberals hate anyone who has money, has ever been succesful, or works harder than you do (which is not hard).

a REAL American   December 4th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Why did Bush's press secretary reveal the neighborhood they're moving to? Now every idiotic, conspiracy-theory liberal is going to try to do something stupid, like chain themselves to a tree in Bush's yard!

chris @ stl   December 4th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Mr. Bush .... now we know why you drove the economy to ditch .... you wanted to buy a house real cheap!

mgb in Houston   December 4th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I celebrate that we are only weeks away from finally being rid of Bush.
I cant think of a better scene possible then to see him depart the White House and for President Barak Obama to take it.
Unfortunately though he is coming back to Texas and frankly I would rather see him moving to Florida or Ohio since those two states deserve him most.

JD   December 4th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I'm glad he's moving. REALLY, REALLY, REALLY glad.

Dee   December 4th, 2008 1:48 pm ET
