Bushes announce purchase of post-White House home

The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.
The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President and Mrs. Bush will be moving to Dallas after Mr. Bush leaves office, the White House announced Thursday.  “The President and Mrs. Bush have purchased a home in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas, Texas,” Sally McDonough, Mrs. Bush’s press secretary, said in the statement.

The Bushes lived in Dallas from December 1988 through January 1995. They moved to Austin after Mr. Bush was elected Texas governor in November 1994.  The president was partial owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team during part of their time living in Dallas.

During the latter part of Bush’s presidency, the first lady had made it known that Dallas would be their primary residence after leaving the White House, not the president’s beloved Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

“I like Crawford,” the president told a crowd at a Houston fundraiser in July.  “Unfortunately, after eight years of asking [the first lady] to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker.”  The Bushes will continue to spend some time at the ranch, according to the statement.

As to the specifics of their new home, the Bushes “do not have occupancy of the home, and therefore, no additional details will be provided,” McDonough said.

The reason people can't stand Bush is because of all the damage and horrible things he's done over the last years!! Helllloooo, where have you been??? We actually have a REASON! There is no reason at all to hate Obama (unless, of course, you're a racist)! He hasn't done anything yet but he's already being blamed for the mess that Bush and his cronies made! How does THAT make sense!?? Bush is so ignorant, stupid and sociopathic that he doesn't have the heart to even be ashamed of all he's done or "let others talk him into".

Personally, I think they should live on that stretch of land which remains devastated by Hurricane Ike.

I don't care where he lives as long as it isn't in the White House. I really would prefer him living in a jail cell, if I had a choice, with Dick Cheney in the cell next to him.

@Maarlene: "Good luck to George and Laura you did the best you can. Were all not perfect"

are you serious? EVERY President does the "best he can". The problem is that in Bush's case, it was a very poor job. Bush is already recognized by most historians and analysts as one of the, if not the, worst President in history. An economy in shambles (no, it's not all his fault), an unnecessary war, attacks on civil liberties, torture, signing statements (ie, a refusal to obey the law), a total lack of competence and willingness to analyze issues in depth.....the list goes on and on.

I don't wish bad things for him. But, his administration was a disgrace.

Polish your crystal ball cuz' it ain't working. George Bush would have been a good president, had he not listened to the neocons. I wish him well in his post-presidential life.

I imagine he is buying it for about $3 from it's former owner Halliburton, who just finished buying it.

"Well, it must be nice to be above the President of the United States!"

Actually, it really isn't. I WANT the president to be smarter and more capable than I am. Fortunately, come Jan. 20, he will be. :)

As for Bush, yeah, his new home SHOULD be the Greybar Hotel, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen. Oh, well. As long as he just goes away, that's fine.
