Bushes announce purchase of post-White House home

The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.
The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President and Mrs. Bush will be moving to Dallas after Mr. Bush leaves office, the White House announced Thursday.  “The President and Mrs. Bush have purchased a home in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas, Texas,” Sally McDonough, Mrs. Bush’s press secretary, said in the statement.

The Bushes lived in Dallas from December 1988 through January 1995. They moved to Austin after Mr. Bush was elected Texas governor in November 1994.  The president was partial owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team during part of their time living in Dallas.

During the latter part of Bush’s presidency, the first lady had made it known that Dallas would be their primary residence after leaving the White House, not the president’s beloved Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

“I like Crawford,” the president told a crowd at a Houston fundraiser in July.  “Unfortunately, after eight years of asking [the first lady] to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker.”  The Bushes will continue to spend some time at the ranch, according to the statement.

As to the specifics of their new home, the Bushes “do not have occupancy of the home, and therefore, no additional details will be provided,” McDonough said.

The only place Bush, Cheney, Alberto, Rumsfield and the other should be going is to jail for their treasonous betrayal of our Constitution, violations of their oaths of office, lying about something more important than a blow job (that's why they impeached Clinton...remember?), and their war crimes. BUT NO......no one is ever going to be held accountable or responsible for the mis-deeds and crimes committed by the Bush administration and its cronies. May they all rot in hell.

Secret Service agents everywhere, Dick Cheney lurking about with a shotgun. Well, there goes the neighborhood.

By the way, did the Bushes get a good deal on a mortgage? Did Paulson co-sign?

"Bush was the first President to have a USA-mainland attack since Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. Franklin D Roosevelt was in office at the time.

On Pearl Harbor, the USA deaths were 2,300 something compared to the 2,700 something of the World Trade Center towers.

Did the president then get blamed for the atomic bombs being dropped Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

That was far more devasating than anything President Bush has done."

Please consider that when the Japanese attacked the USA, FDR went on the attack against Japan, and defeated them. George Bush's USA was attacked by al Quaeda, and instead, he went on the attack against Iraq, where they have never found any sign of WMD's or al Quaeda leadership that planned 9/11. That would have been like FDR attacking Indonesia instead of Japan, and after 7 years of war, still leaving Japan free to continue attacking the USA. As another poster commented, and Gen. Sherman originally said, "War is hell" and it should NEVER be entered into without absolute necessity. Bush started a war against Iraq that was not only not necessary, but it has kept us from finding and punishing the real instigator of the 9/11 attacks.

I wouldn't have minded one bit if Bush had nuked the caves where bin Laden was hiding. But to start an unnecessary war, causing death and injury to thousands of American soldiers, and even more Iraq civilians, and to let the worst attack against the USA since Pearl Harbor go unavenged – well, the words stupid and incompetent do seem to apply.

It just goes to show you that his ranch in Crawford, TX was all just a FARCE!!!

It was all just for show, so he could portray his 'cowboy' image and he never had any intention of having a ranch other than just for his image.

WHAT A JOKE!! Dubya will always be a joke and the worst President in our nation's history! He faked the entire rance scene down in Crawford and Republicans ate it up hook, line and sinker.

I bet he can't sell that ranch fast enough as soon as he leaves office...

    WHAT A JOKE!!

I cant take all you Bush Apologists. When you defend him and his actions you defend things like torture among many other offenses too numerous to list here. The facts simply show him as a terrible leader and a short sighted Moron. Just look at the leadership he has shown over the last few weeks....NONE!

This man has proven himself to be a liar. I see the comments from the right in this post and I wonder what they have been doing for the last 8 years? Let him retire in peace? How about if we investigate him and his cabinet and prove what he did for the sake of future generations so it never happens again. He is corrupted by power and influenced by some of the worst men ever to hold public office

All you RepCONS out there should wake up and admit you were wrong and are now the laughing stock of over half this country and most of the western world. When your role models are folks like Rush, Hanity and (PUKE) Coulter you deserve the ire of anyone who has the ability to think critically. Had Clinton done even half of the incopmetent, immoral and un-ethical things Bush has the RepCONs would have been holding impeachment hearings 7 years ago. I guess they are more offended by lying about sex than lying about war, torture......on and on

BTW – I am a liberal and I am pretty well off so generalizing that Liberals hate the rich is just another ridiculous republiCON talking point.

IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT CAUSE OUR NATION TO BE HATED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. YOU ARE ANYTHING BUT A PATRIOT TO CONDONE TORTURE.... MORON!!

With all the enemies Bush has made world wide, he would do better to live on a military base or in a bomb-proof bunker.

I wish the two of them would just get out of town. They make me sick, buy your house and live like hermits. We don't care–no one likes either one of you.

It was a sad, sad day when the Bushes came to town. Our country will never be able to live down the fact that we tortured people. Bush is an idiot and so is Laura for pretending he's not. There daughters are morons too, they did nothing but ate off the fat of the land and sold books for profit. What losers.

    Dear Doug,
The Geneva Conventions pertain primarily to enemy-combatants and P.O.W.s, which is why they are applicable to Guantanamo Bay. Criticism about Bush’s refusal to adhere to them is not simply liberal mud slinging. If anyone understands the personal horror and political consequences of torture it is John McCain. He fought to ban the use of torture at Guantanamo because he knew what OUR troops would face in retaliation. The most recent consequence of our refusal to respect the lives of innocent civilians has been the terrorists in Mumbai asking specifically for American hostages.

    Dear Mr. and Mrs. Bush,

On behalf of the citizens of Dallas, which voted for Barack Obama 57%, we really do not want you living in our state. Do Dallas a big favor and move somewhere else. Anywhere else in Texas will do. Dallas is now Obama country and we really would rather you not move here. Since you will obviously ignore this plea, expect to be booed and jeered anywhere in Dallas county.

    Signed,

    The citizens of Dallas, TX.

I can't believe someone compared the attack on Pearl Harbor with the attack of 9/11. The ONLY comparison there is that one was they were the last two times we have been attacked on our native soil (well, that term is relative to say the least...I certainly accept any criticism from all those who debate that statement).

    Pear Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941:
Six aircraft carriers launch close to 400 planes sending in two waves of strikes against the US Pacific Fleet. Result and Aftermath: Approximately 2400 people die. 4 Battle ships are sunk and close to 200 planes are destroyed. America enters world war II. Raises 3 of the 4 ships and returns 2 of them to fight in battle near the close of the war. Pearl Harbor back and operational with in MONTHS of the attack. Fights and wins wars on both sides of her shores, fighting against countries in a GLOBAL war, against modern weaponry of the time. Time in war...FIVE YEARS from the time America enters the war, it comes to a close. Multiple nations encountered on the battlefield, and defeated by the GREATEST GENERATION EVER!

    Sep 11, 2001:
4 planes are hijacked. Our president given warnings dating back to his president elect status, is still, somehow, caught off guard. Oh well, he can't guard against 4 planes, we know...it's a BIG job to do that! Result and Aftermater: about 2400 dead. We enter the war on terrorism in Afghanistan. Get diverted by reports of WMD's, jump into Iraq, no wmd's...we stay anyway. Hussein govt toppled, we stay anyways. Bin Laden, and al Qaeda...7 years later, still partying it up. No result, no victory, still in war, still not going after the people who bombed the building...simply doing nothing but killing our men and women until someone smart comes into office.

Bush, in way, shape or form, can EVER be compared to FDR (or any other good president...EVER...he failed in biblical proportions. FOUR PLANES for gods sake! How incompetent do you have to be?)

The comments left by those people who support Bush are as ignorant and stupid as they come. He did not win the first term legally his brother in Florida cheated for him. The man has done nothing for this country except make almost the WHOLE WORLD hate us. The man should be impeached for what he did to this country and its people and for starting a war just to play cowboy. Clinton may have been screwing anything in skirts but he took care of the American people can you say that about BUSH. I THINK NOT
