Caroline Kennedy to take Clinton's seat?

Caroline Kennedy's name is being talked about for Clinton's senate seat.

(CNN) - Could Caroline Kennedy, considered to be among the most private members of the Kennedy clan, be tapped to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat?

Kennedy - who endorsed Barack Obama in February before the Super Tuesday round of primaries - is said to be considering the possibility, according to an ABC News report.

New York Gov. David Paterson, the man tasked with picking Hillary Clinton's successor, is remaining mum on the process, but a spokesman for Barack Obama issued a statement in the wake of rumors the president-elect is quietly lobbying Patterson to choose Kennedy.

"President-elect Obama has a very high regard for Caroline Kennedy," said Obama spokesman Stephanie Cutter. "But he has not spoken with Governor Paterson or Caroline Kennedy about the race, and has no involvement in this process."

Earlier, similar rumors circulated that former President Bill Clinton might be interested in the job, but the former president's office quickly released a statement saying he was not interested.

Caroline Kennedy's cousin, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., was also discussed as a potential successor, but formally took his name out of the running earlier this week.

Paterson still has a strong bench to choose from. There are a number of contenders, including several members of New York's delegation in the House of Representatives, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, and Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi.

Whoever is chosen would have to be ready for virtually non-stop campaigning and fundraising over the next four years. Clinton's successor will face a hotly-contested campaign in 2010 to fill out the remainder of her term, then a re-election bid jut two years later.

No, she won't. I doubt she would take it if offered. How about we wait and see, rather than speculate.

Cuomo or Robert will be fine. She's a dork and endorsed Obama for the presidency. She has rotten judgement. She's lucky the economy crashed, otherwise, Hillary would have been right, McCain would have won. He was sailing high.

Proofreader looking for work. It looks like you could use one.

I love Caroline Kennedy. I'm not sure why she'd want Clinton's seat, but if her writing is any indication of her integrity and strength of character, I'm all about it!

And what exactly qualifies her to be a U.S. Senator?

Why not, Caroline would probably do a lot better than Clinton. Some of you people can say what you want to, but it is not always about the money! It is about power and the more power someone gets the more they can control. The power is what the Clintons are all about!

She has expressed no interest in politics before now; why would she step into the ring at this point in her life? This reminds me that they were supposedly considering her for the vice presidency. While I have the highest regard for the Kennedy family and for Caroline, this notion of her being in the Senate is just plain silly.

This has to be a joke! The Kennedy name does not equal quaification and experience for a political office.

As well known that the Kennedys are, I would prefer the State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Because in just two years, it will be another race for reelection and somebody like Cuomo that just ran a State Wide eclection will have the momentum to maintain the Senate seat.

well, why not–that's what this country has come to. A monarchy. Install the children of Bush, why not more kennedys. Running for election is such a drag.

So she get's it based on what exactly, her being part of the "chosen ones" inner circle or because she is a Kennedy?

My bad, I should know better than to question the great one and his friends.

I will go back to my job where I get paid and promoted based on nothing but MERIT, I apologize for questioning this.

Please do not post harsh things about me.

She is as qualified as anyone else to get the seat! Some people's experiences have proven to be nothing more than 'politcal con artist trickery.' They are experienced at playing the game. Fresh ideas, and people who exude change, are being called upon at this time in history!

How wonderful that would be. Senator Caroline Kennedy has a nice ring to it. And we know she would do a great job, politics is in her blood.

John, I laugh everytime I hear anyone say anything about Obama being a liar. You must have been in a coma for the past 8 years of the Buch/Cheney liars administration in Washington. Caroline Kennedy is extremely well educated, in touch, and has incredible integrity. She also is a humanitarian, of which I have yet to meet a republican that can make that claim.
