Caroline Kennedy to take Clinton's seat?

Caroline Kennedy's name is being talked about for Clinton's senate seat.

(CNN) - Could Caroline Kennedy, considered to be among the most private members of the Kennedy clan, be tapped to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat?

Kennedy - who endorsed Barack Obama in February before the Super Tuesday round of primaries - is said to be considering the possibility, according to an ABC News report.

New York Gov. David Paterson, the man tasked with picking Hillary Clinton's successor, is remaining mum on the process, but a spokesman for Barack Obama issued a statement in the wake of rumors the president-elect is quietly lobbying Patterson to choose Kennedy.

"President-elect Obama has a very high regard for Caroline Kennedy," said Obama spokesman Stephanie Cutter. "But he has not spoken with Governor Paterson or Caroline Kennedy about the race, and has no involvement in this process."

Earlier, similar rumors circulated that former President Bill Clinton might be interested in the job, but the former president's office quickly released a statement saying he was not interested.

Caroline Kennedy's cousin, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., was also discussed as a potential successor, but formally took his name out of the running earlier this week.

Paterson still has a strong bench to choose from. There are a number of contenders, including several members of New York's delegation in the House of Representatives, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, and Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi.

Whoever is chosen would have to be ready for virtually non-stop campaigning and fundraising over the next four years. Clinton's successor will face a hotly-contested campaign in 2010 to fill out the remainder of her term, then a re-election bid jut two years later.

She will be an excellent choice. It is just so sad that some people are even comparing her education, background, intelligence with Sarah Palin!

I'm not a big Kennedy fan (with the exception of Teddy), but it would be a pretty good choice. That being said, Bloomberg would be interesting.

What kind of experience did those guys in 1776 have? The requirements mention residency and age and the like, but not, "have you already been a US Senator, or other elected official in the past? Anyone who is "eligible" is also "qualified". That's how new people step up. Her education and experience qualify her, just like I'm qualified. I personally also believe she would represent NY very well. You'd be lucky to have her in DC.

Patterson should choose Spitzer for the seat. He didnt deserve to loose his job over his sex life and after he resigned the goverment dropped the case. He should be allowed back into politics.

What qualifies as experience to be a senator?? I think there are many who have shown they are not qualified.

    To Ugh...

Flimsiest resume? You need to do some research before making such statements. President-elect Obama has a far better resume than most, especially our current President. His education is outstanding. His years of public service and work ethic prior to and including the IL and U.S. senates qualify him for the position. Caroline Kennedy has a resume that will stand up to anyone. Sounds like you've been reading too many of phony and inflammatory email campaigns instead of researching reliable sources.

This is insane. We are talking about the position of senator from one of the most important states in the country, not a feel good media story. There are plenty of people in this country that graduated from ivy league schools but that does not qualify them to be a united states senator. Her biggest accomplishments are president of her own family's foundation (i am sure she had stiff competition for that position) and being a director, honorary chairperson or "adviser" for various irrelevant not-for-profits. Shouldn't the position go to a well deserving ELECTED politician, perhaps one of the top NY state legislators who was ELECTED by the people of New York state.

First of all, I have no idea how people can put Gov. Palin's and Paris Hilton's names in the same sentence, like I just did. (SHIVER).

And to the person who listed all of Caroline Kennedy's accomplishments – Gov. Palin HAS done a lot more than that.. Like – um – running the state of Alaska? She came from a normal American family and went to college and became a mayor (without any special treatment just because she's related to a bunch of politicians, like Ms. Kennedy) then became governor. And she's done extremely well and could tear Congress apart when dealing with energy reform. She has over 25,000 employees as governor and has so much more executive experience than the man we just elected to – well, basically be the most powerful man in the world.

Caroline Kennedy got all those HONORARY positions that are listed (the NAACP, the Harvard Law Institute, and (oh good gracious) the Ballet) BECAUSE OF HER LAST NAME! She is on all of those boards because she's a Kennedy. That's it! She's not special! She got handed those positions – she didn't work for them!

She is a brilliant woman. I'm not sure she would want the job, but we would all be better off for her taking it.

I do not live in New York, but I believe New Yorkers would be very fortunate to have Caroline as their Senator. She has endured past family crises, has been private in her charitable works, does not seek power or fame or fortune, and has grown into a mature, intelligent and sincere woman who loves her country and wants to serve. I believe she would be an excellent choice.

Anybody but her. She isn't worthy of Hillarys hand me down pantsuits let lone her senate seat. We new yorkers have been spoiled, for 8 years we've had the best senator in the U.S. If a Kennedy is going to replace HRC it should be one that supported her like Bobby Jr. I know there are millions of huge Hillary supporters in NY that will do anything they can do make sure Caroline Kennedy isn't rewarded for stabbing Hillary in the back. So many of us will max out and volunteer and canvas for who ever runs against her in 2010...

  20. I want the demographic that is most like me

I think they should give it to a woman, but not to a woman over 40 years old or over 130 lbs. Also, I prefer brunette over blond. I feel that this demographic segment is underrepresented in today's politics.

Caroline Kennedy is extremely well educated, intelligent, well-spoken, and a person of high moral character and integrity. She would make a fantastic Senator. So of course the righties don't think she is a good choice. What else would you expect from the crowd who reveres bush??

To gw bush, if you happen to be reading this: "integrity" means you're a truthified person, and to "revere" someone means you think they are way good.

Let me get this straight, Experience? So I guess people like Stevens (that have been in the senate longer than my natural life) are more qualified than Caroline, what a joke....it is because of the "experienced" political dinosaurs that this country is in the shape it currently is...Caroline's father presided over an age of enlightenment in America, it is only fitting that she would be part of the process that gives hope back to our country after eight years of moral corruption and the systemic destruction of our national essence. I bet that people in the right would keep their mouths shut if people like O'Reilly or Hannity ran for congress just because they talk about politics in their own twisted ways. We had to deal with Bush for eight years..It is time for our country to get in the path of rehabilitation. GO FOR IT CAROLINE!!!!!
