More spending on Palin revealed

Spending on Palin's clothes, makeup and hair made headlines during the campaign.
Spending on Palin's clothes, makeup and hair made headlines during the campaign.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Republican National Committee's total fashion bill for Sarah Palin's nine-week stint on the GOP presidential ticket is in: $180,000.

That's $30,000 more than the RNC previously disclosed it had spent outfitting and styling the Alaska governor and her family, according to Politico and the RNC's latest filings with the Federal Elections Commission.

The latest filing, which includes the final 3 weeks of the presidential race, shows the committee directed close to $55,000 to Palin's fashion stylist, New York-based Lisa Kline.

The RNC also spent close to $24,000 in several high end stores, including Ann Taylor, Bloomingdales, Brooks Brothers, Neiman's, Nordstrom, Macy's, Saks, Target, and Victoria's Secret.

The RNC has said all the clothes purchased will be donated to charity.

Meanwhile, the McCain campaign paid a total of $110,000 on Palin's traveling hair and makeup stylists, according to the New York Times and the McCain campaign's latest FEC filing.

News surfaced shortly before Election Day that Republicans had shelled out more than $150,00 on Palin and her family in clothing costs - a revelation that posed an unnecessary distraction for the struggling McCain campaign, and undercut Palin's hockey-mom credentials.

Donating to charity is no excuse for spending so much money on fashion. It's just amazing to even think about spending so much in so little time. At least, Palin helped distributing wealth for RNC. What kind of person that goes to charity would need such clothes? They may be more worthy to be collected for a RNC museum or auctioned off for charity. So we will remember how Governor Palin helped the economy.

Doug Haleman Obamas suits come from Hart Schaeffer and Marx a local Chicago company , they probably are about $750 each...... He wears dockers and jeans .........the clothes come from HIS money............ which he has primarily made in the past few years from his book sales.

He didnt have the audacity to walk into WALMART holding her baby she uses for photo ops...... and pretending to be one of us when we was wearing a $5000 suit....... Hypocrisy at its highest

Brian you hit the nail on the head. Instead of complaining about the waste of money we should be happy that they did not spend it on their lying attack ads. It kind of reminds me of people complaining that Bush took too many vacations..I always said the more time he takes off the better off we are.I wish Bush would go shoppin instaed of taking up any more time at the White House.

Good grief. I don't like having to pay $20 for a pair of jeans. The idea of wasting THAT much money on Palin is obscene.

Come on, everybody, I know you hate the witch but maybe if you STOPPED responding to CNN's garbage, no-brain Palin would just disappear. Wouldn't that be awesome? Come on, I challenge you and I challenge CNN to print this.

The media is a bunch of hypocrites! I don't think that the ladies on The View, Katie C. or Cambell Brown, Anderson Cooper or even Barrack and on and on spend any less. It reminds me of a few years ago when Barbara Walters acted so surprised about the cost and frequency of plastic sugery when she is a large consumer herself. A bunch of phonies, all of them! Both Rs and Ds could have spent 100 million each to actually help real people living in filth; Amercia's impoverished cities. CNN, the election is over! Get over Sarah and move on!!

It would be interesting to know how much Obama spent on his clothes, but the people who try to defend spending 180K on clothes are clearly out of touch.

It would be better to chastise Governor Palin and the RNC...then investigate other violations of this clothes-gate scandal.

In any case, if someone defends spending 180K on clothes or pleads ignorance about the cost, quality, and quantity of the clothes, then I don't think I want "that one" to be elected to anything....ever.

This should not be a matter of who can win the clothes debate (sophistry), but rather who has the poor judgment to make those kinds of expenditures.

Those who keep insisting that the 180K was not a mistake are clothes-minded.

DIdn't she just do all those interviews swearing she was not aware of the amounts spent on her wardrobe and that she was wearing her own clothes she bought at that store in Alaska. What a liar, all those interviews on that other news station she did with that Greta women trying to make her look humble and now this. Please, no more Sarah Palin.

C'mon, folks. It isn't about how much the clothes cost, or whether it's sexist because nobody asks how much the men spend or how much Michelle's inaugural gown will cost. It's about the fact that the GOP paid for them. The boys pay for their own clothes, and I'm sure Michelle will do the same.

Why so much anger at Sarah? The cloths were purchased for her not by her. No where did I read that she demanded them. So why is she to blame? Every candidate has clothing purchased for them when they get to the level Sarah and Barak are.

Why is it so hard to understand donating them to charity? The charity will auction them and make a great deal of money to use to do good in the community. Sounds like a good idea to me!

and this is just in 9 wks, what happens if she ran for president, 2 years of campaigning, if you do the math that would be roughly.....2.08 million dollars on clothes.....wow

This is such a useless distraction in light of the job loss reports coming out. No one cares about Sarah Palin's fashion choices anymore. Like the invasion of Iraq, the faulty intelligence and so many other olympian foibles of the last eight years, it all means nothing in light of the economic earthquake that is crumbling many Americans' dreams right now. That is the only story that you should be covering right now, it's all most of us are thinking about.

How about laying off Palin and concentrate on the fashionable (lol) Michelle Obama ! If anyone needs help ... she certainly does with some of the outfits she has worn recently. Could use a good orthodontist too.

Why donate such expensive clothes to charity? Wouldn't it be better to auction them off and give the proceeds to a charity who could then buy clothes for families or working parents?

Given her track record of cheating in tax returns, Uncle Sam better watch out that she may report $180K as charitable contribution in year 2008!

Uncle Sam may also want to check out where her wealth has come from – $1 million savings, two vacation homes, and a private jet...

This is someone who talked about our economic crisis, but at the same time, lavishly spent as much other people's money as she could get for herself and her family. Despicable.

She took advantage of the weakness in our culture to pay attention to appearance instead of substance and tried to get on top. A crook but has no intelligence.

    Palin's 15 minutes are up.

America saw her true colors and will not be having anymore of her ridiculous act.

She lacks intellect, experience, and is just an opportunist.

She will go down in history with the likes of Dan Quayle.

    Good riddance.

    -Republican that voted for Obama.

Enough about Sarah's wardrobe, please! How about a report on the expenses of Barack, Michele and his two daughters?!! You people act as if YOU were the ones that paid for her clothes. I say good for her, she earned it all!!! And I hope she spends much more than that when she runs for office again. I have never in my life seen a report of expenses for the clothes of other candidates, why report on Sarah? Are you going to report on how much Obama is spending on his inauguration clothes for himself and his family, and the food, and the music, and the booze???? I look forward to seeing this report repeated over and over and over and over................
