More spending on Palin revealed

Spending on Palin's clothes, makeup and hair made headlines during the campaign.
Spending on Palin's clothes, makeup and hair made headlines during the campaign.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Republican National Committee's total fashion bill for Sarah Palin's nine-week stint on the GOP presidential ticket is in: $180,000.

That's $30,000 more than the RNC previously disclosed it had spent outfitting and styling the Alaska governor and her family, according to Politico and the RNC's latest filings with the Federal Elections Commission.

The latest filing, which includes the final 3 weeks of the presidential race, shows the committee directed close to $55,000 to Palin's fashion stylist, New York-based Lisa Kline.

The RNC also spent close to $24,000 in several high end stores, including Ann Taylor, Bloomingdales, Brooks Brothers, Neiman's, Nordstrom, Macy's, Saks, Target, and Victoria's Secret.

The RNC has said all the clothes purchased will be donated to charity.

Meanwhile, the McCain campaign paid a total of $110,000 on Palin's traveling hair and makeup stylists, according to the New York Times and the McCain campaign's latest FEC filing.

News surfaced shortly before Election Day that Republicans had shelled out more than $150,00 on Palin and her family in clothing costs - a revelation that posed an unnecessary distraction for the struggling McCain campaign, and undercut Palin's hockey-mom credentials.

  1. Not over being sick of Palin yet.

Who cares what Sarah was wearing? What really needs fixing is that Sarah Palin owes Barack Obama and the American people a BIG APOLOGY for all her sarcastic and snide remarks AND LIES SHE TOLD....that stirred up all the redneck and Joe the Plumber types.

All Obama's "palling around with terrorists" proved to be nothing more than an acquaintance that he knew with whom he served on a committee.

Sarah did more damage in those 6 weeks and she may claim to be oh so Christian, but there are a lot of us out here who will not soon forget how she delighted in being so coyly nasty. They never made fun of her IQ or anything about her family, yet think about all she said.
You know who we have to thank for this? John McCain. Testosterone gets in the way again!!!!

As many of you have said, who cares about the clothes and the hairdos? What's really sad is that the Republican men are led by something other than their brains. It's not the Republican women who are so crazy about Sarah, it's the men. Even the Governors kinds of look like a bunch of awestruck 16 year olds whose hormones are in overdrive!!!

Is Palin and and Huckabee really the BEST you Republicans have to offer? No one smarter out there than this??? And we really have to stomach another Bush??? Won't you Bushes give it a rest for a while? Jeb, go retire on your millions, and tell your kid to stay away, too. Please.

Sarah....stay in Alaska with your husband and kids, and work for your state. Or are you really bored with them? Does Todd really like being treated like a dork?

Hey Carolina stop with the sour grapes. Obama wasn't out spewing hatred and trying to divide the country like that pig in lip stick was! People like you need to understand that this country has had it with Karl Rove politics and she was just a puppet following his hate filled play book!

Victoria Secret ??...... now I see why she had such a great following from young Republican men. Record crowds!

Maybe the RNC thought her undergarments would improve her foreign policy credentials? You know, who do you think Putin is looking at when he is flying over Alaska. The Republican Vice President candidate shooting moose while wearing the 2008 collection of Victoria Secret push-up bra.

When Republicans say that liberals are "afraid" of Sarah Palin, what do they mean by "afraid"?

I, personally, am not afraid of her, but I would say that I'm concerned that she could get to a position of power and through her immense stupidity sink the US and the with it the entire planet.

One question: was any law violated with he purchase of these clothes? If not, what's the problem? While saying that Gov. Palin is not a quality candidate and can't win an election, people of the same political side of the aisle can't figure out why CNN, Olbermann, and other leftist outlets keep covering it. It's because it's a negative story about someone they see as a THREAT. She drew huge crowds and raised a lot of money. An article written by Philip Elliot of the AP and dated today says that the Obama campaign is mulling what to do with their $30 million surplus. Maybe the should give it to all the people mentioned in these comments that could have used Gov. Palin's clothing money. I guess buying the presidency wasn't as expensive as George Soros thought it would be.

The McCain campaign misused Palin; these "stylists" bought whatever they wanted–Palin was not even in the loop on what was bought for her and her family. That she is being "smeared" over this is completely unfair. Furthermore, the RNC bought these clothes–not the taxpayers. Frankly, it is the "stylists" who should be paying this money back, with interest.

In addition, Sarah Palin is not a redneck or a fool. She is a highly popular, highly effective, bipartisan governor. The media has made her into a straw woman, but that, too, is a grossly unfair distortion.

It just goes to show how some folks have a vested interest in untruths.

Why doesn't the news post the cost of Obama's suits???? This is a double standard since she is a woman. I am sure Obama is not wearing clothes from Wallmart, but we don't post the price tag on CNN. If you care about this story you need to get a life!!!

Who cares? Has anyone asked Obama how much he spends? Or Nancy? Or Hillary? With the money they spend, we could feed an entire 3rd world country. Not that it matters, because they do have their priorities, and that doesn't include the American people, unless they are rich and can donate tons of money to these self-centered people.

So, CNN, when are you going to start researching how much HRC pays for her clothes, or, Pelosi, or Boxer?

Stop trying to take market share from MSNBC.

So let me get this straight. For a year, while he was running for the President of the US & The National Inquirer was reporting that Sen John Edwards was having an affair, CNN did not report it or even investigate it as it was not newsworthy.....again he was RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT! Yet now with the ELECTION OVER and Palin back in Alaska, CNN is hot on her trail investigating price tags on her clothes because this is newsworthy????! Gotta love CNN!
