WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Republican National Committee's total fashion bill for Sarah Palin's nine-week stint on the GOP presidential ticket is in: $180,000.
That's $30,000 more than the RNC previously disclosed it had spent outfitting and styling the Alaska governor and her family, according to Politico and the RNC's latest filings with the Federal Elections Commission.
The latest filing, which includes the final 3 weeks of the presidential race, shows the committee directed close to $55,000 to Palin's fashion stylist, New York-based Lisa Kline.
The RNC also spent close to $24,000 in several high end stores, including Ann Taylor, Bloomingdales, Brooks Brothers, Neiman's, Nordstrom, Macy's, Saks, Target, and Victoria's Secret.
The RNC has said all the clothes purchased will be donated to charity.
Meanwhile, the McCain campaign paid a total of $110,000 on Palin's traveling hair and makeup stylists, according to the New York Times and the McCain campaign's latest FEC filing.
News surfaced shortly before Election Day that Republicans had shelled out more than $150,00 on Palin and her family in clothing costs - a revelation that posed an unnecessary distraction for the struggling McCain campaign, and undercut Palin's hockey-mom credentials.
As my mama always said, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear"
Seems to sum it up regarding Palin and the RNC expenditures to make her into something other than what she actually is, lol...
@J " But then you see her bill for over $400.00 LUNCH of lobster with Barack. "
You obviously missed the fact that this was proved to be a total misreporting. Turns out the Obamas never even stayed at the hotel where this meal was first reported to have been served (room service).
The publication withdrew the story and apologized.
Well the democrats voted in this CRACKCASE of a president. We will be discussing far more than a fashion bill on here after he completely RUINS our country. Black men can't lead!
Well let's see if Sarah Palin had worn her humdrum Alaska wardrobe people would have gone on and on about her appearance. An individual campaigning for high office has to dress appropriately. Its hard to tell one suit from another, at least from a distance, so men don't have to spend near as much as women do to dress in the style commensurate with the position they are seeking. If Sarah Palin had worn the same outfit more than once every two weeks, people would have made something of it. Get over it, private donors paid for the clothing, the public didn't.
Those hideous pants suits that Hillary Clinton's campaigned in cost cost anywhere between $2000 and $6000 a pop. She can afford to pay for them herself seeing as she and Bill have earned close to $100 million since they left office eight years ago.
Wow... i guess if you put $180,000 of lipstick on a pig, you get Sarah Palin... I would think a pig would be a little more intelligent, however.
I do not know how in the world anyone no matter how much money a person makes could spend that much money on cloths,,I am 71 years old and never made that much money in my entire life...this is pathetic
Hey JB that moron you adore was trying to portray herself as a "modest" hockey mom while out on the stump spewing hate and trying to divide the country! Go join that pig in lip stick in her igloo! I am sure the witch from Wasilla has room for you too!
180,000 divided by 67 (the number of days she was VP candidate) equals = $2686.50 per day. What happened to the conservative party?
CNN contributed to the overwhelming media bias in the election. now continues with reporting on useless detail. so how much did your Dems spend on their ladies? a little point-counter-point for a more complete story. either balance the reporting or give it a rest.
Sens. Clinton, Pelosi and Rep. Boxer purchase their own clothes because they are professional women who understand what is required of them as far as appearances go. They work hard, and have worked hard in the past, gotten excellent educations and years of experience and are able to afford what they want or need. Palin, on the other hand, had money donated to the RNC used to purchase a new look, a new style for her. What a waste.
Victoria's Secret!!!!
NO I can understand Saks, Ann Taylor, Brook Bros and other stoes...koz you may need some good clothes and she didnt pack her back (illogical argument but an argument given by McCain and Palin) but Victoria's Secret?
I mean who was supposed to see her lingerie...I mean if Todd Palin needed to see his wife in expensive lingerie then he should buy them himself...
This PitBull becomes more and more ridiculous...
It doesn't matter how much the RNC pays for Palin's fashion stylist or where the RNC purchases her clothes, she's still an ignorant pig & pitbull with lipstick from a COWTOWN STATE. Alaska may be the largest state in this country in SQUARE FOOTAGE NOT by population. San Francisco which is 49 square miles has a larger population than Alaska (875,000). The Republican Party must be extremely desperate to think Palin can run for President in 2012 or 2016 & win. The Republican Party needs to send her back to school to get an education. Obviously, she doesn't even know the basics such as what the Vice President's duties are in the Senate.
$180,000.00 on clothes for her family in 8 to 9 weeks.
in 55 yeaars, i net i didn't own clothes worth that much.
Carolina said something about Obama buying the presidency – that's funny because I voted for him and haven't received a check in the mail.
The End!
Heaven's to Besty, what does the woman look like first thing in the morning?????? You really have to feel for the millions of Republicans who donated; however, since they had nothing else going on, perhaps this will jumpstart them for 2016.
PEOPLE:
There's a reason that YOU folks keep hearing "Sarah Palin": $$$$$$$
GET IT THRU YOUR HEADS: news/media/journalism/etc. is *ABOUT* MONEY/CAPITALISM......ESPECIALLY *MAKING* $$$$$
EXCEPT FOR FOXnews, news/media/etc. "reports" what brings in the $$$$$
UNDERSTAND?????
Like shooting fish in a barrel! This woman just doesn`t get it, and never will. I just keep wondering how long her 15 minutes of fame seem to go on and on; and the Republicans keep looking more and more lost every day.
Hey Grey Stone
Good post! I rarely read CNN because I learn more about what is going on from newspapers and websites from around the world (Shanghai Times, FT News, MarketWatch, Brussels Journal, BBC, WSJ, etc....).
I thought I'd give it a try....This website is lacking in depth and substance.
Its over, guys!!
What about Michelle Obama? I bet the Obamas don't pay for all her clothes. Although since they give virtually zero to charities(per their tax returns) they have more money to be self-indulgent with.
Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Todd,
His wife got elected so he had to quit his job,
McCain came a callin', said "please campaign for me"
so they loaded up the snowmobiles
and headed to D.C.
Bloomingdale's, Victoria Secret
Well the next thing you know, ol' Sarah's on TV
and Oprah asks, "Why won't she talk to me?"
But the pundits say "it's the economy"
but all she cares about is
cheap publicity!
Joe the plumber, "Mind if I call you Joe?"
2 WORDS: FISCAL CONSERVATISM!!!!!
I hope conservatives really learn what their party stands for. Footing huge bills and putting it on the credit card! I wish the RNC would pick up our national debt tab!
Let's see if there is equal criticism of Obama's inaugural celebrations. Those parties will cost a hundred times Palin's wardrobe cost.
