This photo of Favreau and Clinton appeared on Facebook Friday.

(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.

Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.

The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.

Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.

The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.

[...] Take this story about future Barack Obama White House speechwriting director Jon Favreau, who found his mug posted on facebook, making a joking hand gesture at a cardboard image of Hillary Clinton at a party. Once Favreau realized it was up, it came down. But as the story noted, the damage was done at that point. Obama's speechwriter isn't Obama, nor a preacher and has the right to drink and make jokes or whatever like anyone else. But increasingly, it's becoming tougher and tougher to separate folks' private and personal lives, especially if those same people fancy social networking, where friends and family can check up on loved ones 24/7. In essence, facebookers and the like can relate personal and detailed information to those they see every day and also to old friends with whom they might not have spoken with since grade school. You want this guy to lose his job for having a good time at a party? For not having 'good judgment"??? What a laugh!!

Maybe her response should be, "Well, at least *someone* still finds me attractive."

Nishesh   December 6th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Tom (Independent for Obama in NY, Gulf War Vet)   December 6th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Well he can kiss that job goodbye. Gotta love Myspace or facebook, while it can be a good tool and friend, it can also be your downfall. Though its not the worst thing in the world he did, nevertheless it was the most stupidest, especially when he knows he is going thru the application process. Give me the job of speech writing and at the same time I know how to show respect to the former first lady. I agree with some of the posters on here, the super smart kids who are involved in business and government. Scairy thing when you think about it. I guess its no different when my parent's generation was their age in the 70s how dumb mistakes they made. Every age group has their share of idiots. I am sure Mr.Obama is taking note of this and is not pleased. Word to Jon, better have a plan B, because I think you just threw your future out the door. Hope you have learned from your mistakes.

An Obama speech writer being sexist? And the media criticizing Hillary's response? Forgive me if I don't faint with shock. As a feminist, I'm not disappointed in Clinton's response. She acted like an adult. If she had called it out as sexist and demanded an apology, then the talking heads in the media would have complained that she continued to "play the gender card" or "couldn't take the heat." Since she didn't take that bait, the media blames her for her lack of feminist outrage. She just can't win. The media is the real problem here.

As to those who are thinking "boys will be boys." I'd like to add that his age is no excuse for his behavior. At 27, he shouldn't be acting like a drunk frat boy. If he still acting like that, then Obama should dump him until he grows up. I don't really care if the average 27 year-old gets drunk and acts like an idiot at a party (I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt that alcohol played a role in the judgment), but this guy is a speech writer for the next leader of the most powerful country on earth. Forgive me if I have higher expectations. There are a lot of good speech writers out there, ones with common sense as well as a way with word. Obama should hire one of them.

Here is a thought. When the country begins to turn around and enjoys success and prosperity again why don't you and your ilk reject any benefits of that success as a protest against Obama. You hate him for "whatever" reason so just reject anything that he has a hand in. Be disciples of hate and refuse any and all things that could possibly benefit you and your families. That way you can show Obama and the world that YOU were right all along about his policies and his presidency and that YOU are smarter than us all!!! That way we can celebrate you and say hooray for the superior intelligent people like you!!!

Adri   December 6th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

And he posted that on Facebook? He posted that himself? It doesn't get any dumber than this. I am not bothered as much with what he did. Yeah, it's not pretty, it's not a laudable behavior, but then again that is a party and people let lose at a party. I've done my share of dumb things at parties. But, hell, I never posted the thing on Facebook for the world to see. Particularly one that is relevant for his future position at the WH. I'd say this proves enough stupidity on his part to lose his job; just posting the picture on Facebook. What he was doing at that party is his business and I hope everyone had a good time.

Obama Supporter   December 6th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

I proudly support President -elect Obama and want to see him with the absolute best people around him. This man ( he's not a kid at 27) is obviously not one of the brightest minds, and not someone I would like to see advising our new President on anything.

They are either jealous, or, afraid of her. Probably both.
She is a hard working good politician. (Who cares for us and her country)
This speechwriter needs to write his next speech in the form of a very public apology, and read it to the country who has seen this ugly thing. on that fox thing.

I for one believe that this behavior is disrespectful and disgusting and Favreau owes Mrs. Clinton an apology.

kim   December 6th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

FRG   December 6th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

President -elect Obama should fire this man. After something like this he can not trust Jon Favreau to write his speeches and literally put words in his mouth.
At 27 yrs. old and about to become the primary speechwriter for Barack Obama, Jon Favreau should be more mature and more professional than this. He should have sense enough to know that as a public spokesperson for President-Elect Obama he no longer has a private life and he is always on camera and there may always be an open mike in the room. If you don't want to get caught doing it or saying it, don't.
This shows very bad judgement. It is definitely sexist and disrespectful of Ms. Clinton. It is disrespectful of all women. As for Phillipe Reines, had Ms. Clinton even seen the pictures on Facebook before he responded to Jon Favreau"s apology in her name? Or was this just another conversation betwen males in the Good Ol' Boys Club?

To some it may be funny in a sophomoric, juvenile, unsophisticated beer party at college way. Oh my God, lighten up, people. LOL.

How do you get through life?   December 6th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

To those who claim to be offended by this, I ask: How do you get through life? If you're so deeply offended and disgusted by the picture, I wonder how do you walk down the street, ride public transportation, send your children to school, etc., where obviously much more highly offensive acts take place on a very regular basis?

This is a guy, who you don't know, at a private party, posing with a CARDBOARD CUT OUT, for only long enough for someone to snap a picture. Does the genuinely offend you? Really? Or are you just trying to smear the President-elect?

Besides, it doesn't even look like he's grabbing her breast; I would say that's her armpit, at best.

Brenda R. Harris   December 6th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

There is no excuse for bad behavior. This youngman should leave president-elect Obamas staff. Mrs. Clinton is a woman like myself and should not be displayed in that manner ( no woman should be). He is a grown man and what he did shows just the type of person he truly is.

27 OH NO   December 6th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

He is 27 old enough as those where at 18, why not pay consequences. He did something that embarrased the future of the White House, he is suppose to work for. If Obama does nothing about this man, then we are in deep trouble. Responsible party step forward. Does not matter that it was the fellow taking the picture who pasted it on facebook, He still did it.

Bill Charlotte,NC   December 6th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

This child wonder needs to go. Obama can not tolerate this kind of disrespect for women and/or his opponents or cabinet members. This is sophomoric and inexcusable for anyone closely aligned with the President.

I gave numerous times, worked the lines and voted for Obama; this crap needs to end here with an example made that this will not be tolerated!

Come on, Hillary! What happened??   December 6th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

This is beyond idiotic. Especially for someone who had a hand in some of the most intelligent, thought-provoking and important speeches in recent years. Just plain stupidity. Not to mention the Hillary response. WHOA....somebody changed their tune really quickly! I guess the campaign is over....screw women! Ms. SOS doesn't need us anymore, so why get upset? Imagine if the roles were reversed and say, Hillary herself, or Susan Rice, or Janet Nopalitano, or any other woman was snapped in a photo holding a cardboard Barack Obama and grabbing at his crotch. Would it be funny then? Of course, not. It would be degrading to men, and rightly so. In fact, that woman, whoever she would be, would definitely be fired and publicly disgraced. This guy's antics will be forgotten in a matter of days. If we keep letting incidents like this go by without consequences, then sexism will never end. He doesn't need to be fired, just made to publicly apologize or something along those lines. And Hillary needs to speak up!! Say its inappropriate!! Show us you're still fighting for us, even if you're not running for anything anymore!!

haha!   December 6th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

Hillary's response was perfectly appropriate. No need to make a mountain out of a mole hole.

Allison   December 6th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

I sincerely hope he does NOT have a job with this administration now. And I'd like to hear a more serious response from both Clinton and Obama and a public apology from Favreau. This stuff is ridiculous in this century.

Salena Boyd   December 6th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

I wonder if Jon Favreau learned to disrepect females by practicing on members of his immediate family, possibly his mother and sisters! It might be the case that because he is a genuius, and, was so cherished and respected in his home for his brilliant mind that his father forgot to help teach his son to respect his own mother and sisters. Could it be that as a young genius, Jon Favreau was taught or allowed to dumb down his own mother. If so, now an adult genius, he still might not see anything in Mrs. Clinton to respect. Although she is considered a public intellectual. Remember Samantha Power. Does Michelle Obama dislike Mrs. Clinton too?

Viviana   December 6th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Favreau is 27, therefore he's an adult and has the right to do whatever he wants. The incident happened at a party, it isn't that big of a deal. Yes, he made a mistake in posting the pictures but he apologized and took them down right after. It's not like he was having ~sexual relations~ with the cutout or doing anything extremely inappropriate, they were just being silly. Our society is so focused on what's "appropriate" that it's gotten to the point where no one can do or say anything without having to think twice about it. It's complete garbage.

Angie-OHIO for OBAMA   December 6th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

I think he should be fired. 27 or 107. he is old enough to know better. he is a stupid little a$$.

Ken in NC   December 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

I was not and am not now a HRC supporter and I admit that she has not always said or done some of the smartest things in this primary and election precess but this was wrong. It was insensitive, sexist, disrespectful and wrong. The fact that she is the Former First Lady or a Bag Lady makes no difference in this matter. It was wrong.

Al   December 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

The picture is funny and relatively harmless. Too much non news gets reported these days. I hope his career survives this.

Get a life   December 6th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

To all of those posting "He must resign," "he does not deserve to work at the White House," etc., you are ridiculous. He is obviously very talented and very good at what he does, or he wouldn't have this position. So he's at a party and poses with the Hillary cut-out. And all of you people thinks he deserves to LOSE HIS JOB over this?! Get life. Seriously, you're sitting at your computer typing your outrage at this. If something as unnewsworhty as this photograph prompts you to get on your imaginary soap box and demand his resignation, you need to find something more meaningful to do with your time.

rrow   December 6th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

If Obama doesn't fire this guy, it will be seen as condoning this behavior.
I can't believe all of the "he is only 27"! The guy is writing speeches representing America, and has just been promoted to a high level appt. in the administration. You all can't have it both ways, you can't say he is mature enough to hold a position like he has, but not mature enough to act like it.

Tiff of lithia springs   December 6th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Oh my goodness who hasn't been young before? The problem with this generation is they like to hang themselves by putting there stupidy over the internet for the world to see. It is a tough lesson to learn at 27.

Dont fire him Obama! But he does need to be reprimanded. I have a sister that's 28 and they can live on another planet.

This is no big deal, leave the guy alone   December 6th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

What's the big deal.
All in good fun.
Lighten up, America. Hillary obviously has a good sense of humor about it.
Chill out, folks.

Not Perfect Either!   December 6th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

OK – Hasn't EVERYBODY done something juvenile like this at some point? And if you haven't, you're so boring that NOBODY would want to hire you.

Do you really imagine that Hillary, or the Moose Hunter, or our new First Lady, have NO SENSE OF HUMOR? The guy meant no harm.....he was goofing around at a party..

Lighten up and go have a beer.

JT   December 6th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

People need to lighten up!! Where has the sense of humor gone in this country!!!

Dissapointed   December 6th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

i agree with the previous notes. Obama is hiring 27 year old punks but won't give a chance to Hispanics and Asians. Quickly getting dissapointed with his choices.

lg in Atlanta, GA   December 6th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

This person is too immature to be responsible for such a high end job. If this picture was from college, I would understand. However, he should know better than this at 27 years old. As a woman, I am offended by this behavior. He is too young and immature for this job. I thought Obama was being selective. This appears to be his first staffing mistake.

Curtis - Marietta, GA   December 6th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Oh come one. All you people saying that he needs to be fired...lighten up! This is funny and as you can see from the reaction from the Clinton camp, they get a kick out of it too. What he did was wrong...yes. But Clinton responded perfectly and you can see that she's not really concerned.

Think about it. Instead of laughing AT those who lead us for the next 4 years like we have done for the last 8, what if the government had a sense of humor and we can laugh with them. Maybe this country needs to loosen up a little! Lord knows I could use a break after the last decade.

This is Hilarious!   December 6th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

I bet Hillary and Bill both think it's hilarious!

C'mon everybody! Lighten up!

sihtam   December 6th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Move along folks, there's nothing to see here!!!

Annoyed   December 6th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

I am tired of the age bashing. I am 29 years old and I do not think that youth automatically defines itself as incompetence. Isn't Bush in his 60s? Can someone explain to me what is the point of going to college at 18 or even completing a graduate degree in your 20s if you are going to be considered a child and should not be offered a decent job? I don't think 27 is the reason NOT to hire the man as a speechwriter. I would also like to point out that people of all ages post things that may be considered inappropriate on Facebook or Myspace. Once again, people's comments on CNN are reduced back to age, race, or gender bias. What a shocker.

C Spurgeon   December 6th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

This idiot we don't need. Tell him to go back to school and learn how to behave.

Walt   December 6th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Glad the Clintons see this as funny.

Favreau will learn a lesson, in Washington everything is looked at whether you're 27 or 67 and in high office. People are so freakin' uptight in this town, they need to loosen up!

Tomas T   December 6th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED!

He of all people should have known better than to be photographed groping the future secretary of state. Any other person would not matter because its a joke, etc, whatever. BUT, once you take such a high profile job and in the White House, you need to act accordingly and not be so stupid. and he is not a kid.

Joe   December 6th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

I love the headline. The kid is smart/experienced enough to put the words in the mouth of the future leader of our country but not quite sharp enough to have a handle on Facebook. Poor kid.

Outraged in Brookline   December 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

This is an absolute disgrace and extremely disturbing. Highest level of standards should be maintained along with a zero tolerance policy. Mr Favreau is not mature enough to be given any respectful position in the future administration. This calls for President-elect Obama to step-up and fire him from the speech writer position.

dora   December 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

PS: This was too stupid too ignore. Fire him!!!! and his likes! Put Adults in those positions, i am sure you can find one that writes...

Dolly,   December 6th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Well, who is surprised??

Obama is creating jobs, one for Carolyn Kennedy and of course welfare for the wealthy, expecting taxpayers to pay off Hilary Clinton's debt.

Everyone who voted him in will be getting exactly what they deserve howeve the rest of us have to go along.

"Listen to your heart. Never stop listening."

dora   December 6th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

These are the 'new' young Professionals attitudes towards their jobs, that require honor, ethics and a Change in government??? I do not believe that the only people Administrations can get are the very young and unwise 'kids' for their important positions! The reason for wanting these jokers not yet wise maturely...to blindly do their bidding without real thought.... you, know, kinda like get em' young and bring em' up Your way??? We do not have true leadership, we have children in positions that are 'dictated' to them.

BB   December 6th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

For God's sake, people – it's not like he's making propaganda films for the enemy !!!!

Terry   December 6th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

Mr. Favreau has no place in this new government. Animal House, yes, but not the White House.

Obama needs to make an immediate change we can believe in - as in, FIRE Mr. Favreau - if we are to believe his administration is really going to be about change from the old ways of doing business in DC. And this guy's supposed to craft the language that is supposed to inspire the public, bring people together, and manage public perceptions? He just doesn't get it.

What part of 'the world is watching us' does he not understand? Go quickly , Mr. Favreau, and take your cardboard cut-out with you.

Daryl from Seattle   December 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Hahaha, it is funny, but obviously his application is about to be denied. Unless Clinton is willing to make light of it as it just being a guy having fun at a party with a camera. No harm, but it's pretty indecent.

keewee   December 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Although it isn't like he committed a serious offense, but why did he have to take that picture? I question his self-control about being clever rather than preparing for an important job. The fact that he is wearing a shirt that says "Obama Staff" is just silly.

As for the dummy (conrad) who said Hillary "deserves a boob honkin'", I'd like to see someone say that about your mother every time she said something mean and nasty.

anonymous   December 6th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Really people?? How much do you want to dull down a persons sense of humor and personal opinions before they are deemed "mature and respectful?" Lighten up people and perhaps focus your anger on something that matters! I mean really... THINK about it and cut this guy a break.

Get Real Ppl. What makes that pic sexist?
Could it not be what every sports fan does in their own way to their most competitve rival?
Is there an allegegation he muttered something sexist while doing this? or what were his intentions?
We don't know. Just coz its a female cut-out doesn't make it sexist. If this was a dude's cut out or an animal cut-out or an object cut-out, it would not have been blown up like this. Just coz its Hillary, it becomes a big deal. If this was a supermodel or others cut-out, it wouldn't have mattered.
All it is is that this is a private pic of someone having fun in his privacy, away from his high-pressure surrounidng.
It could have been anyone in his situation with their picture being taken caught doing something caused by alcohol.

Get over it and stop drumming up Sexism and making a story whenever possible about it.
What he or she does in their own privacy is their own business. Obviously this pic should not have been made public given his high profile. But to penalize him over a non-criminal act in his private life is ridiculous.

End of story

Walt, Belton,TX   December 6th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Hey, it's not like he was a pedophile or something. Of course, maybe he needs to have someone keep an eye on him, just for being stupid!

Frank   December 6th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

I'll be frank here and say that I just watched our weekly address from Obama on job reconstruction. I couldn't help but having visions of this character (Favreau) fondling Hillary as Obama was reading Favreau's words. GET RID OF HIM (Favreau).

Elle   December 6th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I think anyone doing something like this with a cardboard cutout is funny – why be offended. Having said that, I think it would be a different story if this were Michelle Obama.
He had, a will probably have a high profile job – and like everyone else, you will be under a microscope constantly. It's time to grow up and act like an adult if you want to accept a position such as that.

The least of our worries   December 6th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I love how people are getting their gonads in a knot over young people having fun. He writes speeches for Obama. Who cares?

So a picture of this guy's friend grabbing feeling up cardboard cuttout Hillary is enough to make the news. Why is this important at all? There are people dying in Sudan and India and Afghanistan and how many other diferent places, to be quite honest I feel we have more important things to do. How are cardboard-cutout Hillary's breasts going to get jobs back or fix our inane forign policy. It isnt. Obama is and this is just his recent college-grad speech writer enjoying himself. It isn't important. Grow up.

Ales Kulich   December 6th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Please! Get a life! How can you hipocrytes even bother to react??? A guy makes a joke at a party. So what? Does that make him disrespectful? Or stupid? And worst of all: what is wrong with sex and nudity. Believe it or not, an overwhelming majority of us engage in it. By making it a bid deal, you are being not only stupid, but also biggots. So please, focus on the important stuff, such as financial crisis, crime, etc, and realize nudity, sex and having fun without harming is a part of actually having a life.

Joan , Ontario   December 6th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

This looks like it was taken at a private party and a lot of alcohol might have been consumed. That is no excuse for stupidity but it might explain it. He should be ashamed of himself and mad that the picture was posted in the first place.. I'm glad he apologised and that Hilary has accepted it and taken it in her stride. He should not have any major role in Obama's organization from now on because he obviously does not show good judgement. However, this is taking some important news coverage time which should be devoted to the economy, bailouts, Indian attacks, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. etc. etc. Set some priorities about what is really important.

No Kidding   December 6th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Ryan   December 6th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Why is Hilary Clinton at a frat party which is obviously overflowing with booze? Shouldn't we call her judgement into question? Obviously the guy shouldn't have put his hand there, but it takes two to tango.

Karen   December 6th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Yes, boys will be boys, and girls will be girls. Nonsense is all fine in private. Bar the cameras. The ISSUE is the decision to be photographed while being an "boy" and the decision to post it to FaceBook as a representative photo of oneself. We can all have our fun in private, but what employers and others use to judge us is our decision making. Clearly, his decision making is flawed, not in acting silly, but in putting it online as part of his "DIGITAL FOOTPRINT" ... everyone should heed this, what you choose to post online as yourself is what others will see. It's the DECISION TO POST THE PHOTO that is questionable. I saw this in a cop who posted some naughtiness - not illegal, just crude silliness - but the judgement to post the photo is what sank him.

This country is going down badly and fast when all these people refer to a 27 year old as a "kid"!!!! Wow, this nation is composed of idiots, arrogant bastards, and uneducated fools that think a 27 year old man is a kid that can behave in what ever way he wants! Lets face it, this is how our youth have become and this is how they lack respect for women including their mothers and sisters. Lets see how this guy would react if some guy was doing the same thing to a picture of his mother! Or perhaps he wouldn't care less. Lets see if Obama has two cents worth of dignity to throw this guy out with his tail between his legs!!!

He's 27, he was at a party, he drank, he did something stupid that did not physically hurt anyone, period. This country is falling apart at the seams right now – and I refuse to get outraged over trivial stuff like this when we have more pressing items on the agenda. And the comments of shear toxic screaming faux outrage that froth at the moth? Welcome PUMA's. All 20 of you. Sheesh, you're so transparent in your toxic hatred for President Elect Obama it's truly scary to see. I feel sorry for you guys. I really do. Your bitter seething hatred is really frightening.

I have to wonder what people would be saying if this was Obama's wife instead of Hillary. The man who plays such an important role in shaping our nation's image, doesn't have the common sense to be a good steward of his own image. Get rid of him...now.

rich   December 6th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

In the days before the internet, television, and photography, do you really think people involved in politics were paragons of polite behavior? Did none of them drink, carouse, and act like idiots occasionally? Of course they did. What this picture proves is not that Mr. Favreau (whom I thought was an actor and filmmaker–who knew? :P ) is unfit to be a presidential speechwriter. Rather, it proves that the Facebookification (copyright me 2008) of our lives needs to be dialed back a notch. Newsflash to those of you who insist on blogging, tweeting, and Facebook-ing even the most mudane events of your life and the most inconsequential thoughts that pop into your heads: the rest of the world is frankly not on pins and needles waiting for your next post. As a corollary, the mundane details of someone else's life–even someone with a modicum of power and influence like a presidential speechwriter–are not anything any of us need to concern ourselves about. I rather wish the man hadn't apologized for having the audacity to have a good time in proximity to a digital camera. Obviously Hillary's camp's tongue-in-cheek response shows that they found the photo funny–because hey, guess what, it's FUNNY. And also completely harmless. So could everybody just take a deep breath, relax, drink a beer, grope your favorite cardboard cut-out, and get over it?

Cyrus   December 6th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

what a piece of garbage! As an Obama supporter, I find his actions objectionable, and offensive. He should not find a place in the Obama administration....or any other administration. Fire him!

Robert   December 6th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

As a soon to be college graduate, our professors always preach about taking things off of Facebook because things like this may happen. Personally, I don't see much wrong with it, it doesn't seem sexist or mean in anyway as much as it is a funny joke with friends at a party. I don't care how old he is, it's his private time outside of work. People say what you do outside of work is a reflection of where you work, but come on. Let's not act like everyone who works for the government is an angel outside of the office. I believe people can have fun and still think properly on the job.

Boye   December 6th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

Are you all freaking kidding me? Haven't you all heard of "he without sin, cast the first stone"? It's fine for you to have your own little indiscretions, as long as it isn't exposed. If one of your buddies did this in a party, you all wouldn't have a problem with it. Come on, don't be freaking hypocrites. I would hate to live in a world where stuff like this (someone's idea of a mistake), is a criteria for employment. I mean think of it, if some said "well, I can't give you a job because you smoke".

no name   December 6th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Its funny. He's just having fun. Let it go!

gideon, oahu   December 6th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Good for Hillary for accepting his apology. I guess its her not wanting to appear to over sensitive and that she can take a joke. But just because she accepts his apology doesn't mean that Obama should. I think the head speech writer for the president of the united states should show a far greater level of professionalism then this young kid....even when he's at parties where he doesn't expect there to be any press.

Wendy   December 6th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

If this was a member of the Bush administration there would be protests and candlelight vigils throughout America. CodePink and Cindy Sheehan would be crying for impeachment, and the liberal talk shows switchboards would be flooded with "offended" callers. This is change we can believe in? Don't blame me, I didn't vote for the anointed one!

conrad   December 6th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

I think it is a pretty good picture....I am pretty sure Hilary said some nasty things...if you say nasty things, you get the booby honked! LOL

Jay Gime   December 6th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

This is the guy that gets Obama's speechwriting gig? The "soul" behind the man? Or, maybe, the post-racial soul man.

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

That's hilarious! And Hillary's camp's response is just as funny. People need to relax, this is a "no harm, no foul" type of story. If somebody ever gets hold of photos from the college parties of some of the world's most distinguished leaders, this picture will look soooo tame in comparison. Anybody have some photos from some of George W's or Bill Clinton's dorm parties? Do you hear that? I think it's the sound of Ebay calling :-)

Jay Gime   December 6th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

This is the guy that gets Obama his speechwriting gig? The "soul" behind the man? Or, maybe, the post-racial soul man.

Happy Days are here again,
So people be of good cheer again,
Bill & Hilly's act will entertain again,
Happy Days are here again

Bush is gone with his head in shame
And BHO is Pres in nought but name
Bill & Hilly are back for another reign,
Happy Days are here again.

Change will come, do you think it's true?
What will BHO really do for you?
A novice still, not tried and true,
Happy Days are here again.

Cabinet are all well known names,
BHO is good at playing games,
He has brought in all the trusted names,
Happy Days are here again.

All of the Primaries were really a waste of time, Hillary won in the end, good for her. Welcome to The Clintons, series 3. YES

Roland in St George, UT   December 6th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Yeah the guy needs to grow up but so do the protesters. If that had been a cutout of some famous model or Hollywood celebrity do you think he would be nailed to the cross for this? No.

True, sexism exists everywhere but you know what? It's a two-way street and I don't see women out there complaining about all those great looking scantily clad men up on billboards and in suggestive photo ads for designer underwear and swimwear, etc. We are a sexual species, we are not earthworms, let's not forget that.

Also, if you look at data, a greater percentage than not of women surveyed would rather work for a male boss than another female.

You so-called "feminists" need to re-think your strategy because you are not helping your cause.

Johnny Marr   December 6th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

It's true that he's only 27 and should know better at his age, but you can clearly tell it was all in good fun. There's no need to make more out of this photo than necessary. If Clinton was offended at the photo then perhaps an issue can be made of it. However, that is not the case.

There are people in more important political positions doing worse things than this. Let's try to remember that. Of course, he could have saved himself the aggravation by not letting people take pictures of him doing something stupid like this. Cameras and alcohol may not seem like a volatile combination, but it'll catch up with you in the long run.

Now let's move onto more pressing matters. Lord knows we've got plenty to choose from.

Lori   December 6th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

This isn't as bad as John McCain calling Hillary's daughter, Chelsea, 'ugly'.

ohhjeez   December 6th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

this is hilarious

zago   December 6th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

We at least now know of his existence. Thanks to his lax. Hope he does not carry this mood to the WH. I agree that has nothing to do with sexism, but he's old enough to reflect the prestige of his function even in his free time. Nothing wrong or illegal, but his ethic might be at odds. Besides, this could well be the beginning of his decadence. Jon, my friend, please, rise up to your stature.

Dan - Ohio   December 6th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Yes, everyone calm down. He's at a party, he's joking around, he didn't post the photo. I am sure there are arguably controversial photos of everyone. So, give the guy a break.

LL   December 6th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Hillary was flattered that someone thinks she's a MILF..

meow   December 6th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

its really not so bad that he did it. he's just being a guy, doing what guys do, in the privacy of his home. whats bad is that he let the picture be taken and the person that took it was stupid enough to put it in an online public forum. dumb dumb dumb. he should lose his job not because of his actions but for his stupidity being photographed doing it.

mark   December 6th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

i can't believe people get so worked up over this

Carol   December 6th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

You have to be very careful what you do these days and that is a fact.
People will do anything for money so "careful" is the word for the day and that is a fact.
He should have grown up way before he did such a childish thing but now a days the people that are 27 is the same as 17 year old. Men for the most part don't grow-up until they are in their thirty's or fourty's and that is a fact. Nothing surprises me NOTHING.
He writes such important speeches that everyone hangs on and those are the ages he writes for full of things that sound great but is impossible to do and that is a fact.

Ease up   December 6th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

I think all of you need to get off of your high horses. Ease up a little bit. Everything in this country is overanalyzed and blown way out of proportion.

Listen people.   December 6th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

This isn't just a guy who is young and having fun.

He's been given a huge role in shaping the image of our country.

He needs to go. Now.

He's also not a frat boy anymore. He's 27.

If he wants a huge job like Director of Speechwriting, he needs to grow up.

Also, for anyone who says this doesn't hurt our country, it does. It shows that even those at the very top think it's okay to keep putting women "in their place."

As taxpayers and voters, we are Obama's employer. I want him fired.

Naena Rodriguez   December 6th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

As a woman, I am just disappointed by what Jon did. Yes, it was childish and too bad it was caught on film. What does shock and horrify me is how many of you responded with an understanding of "what do you expect when a man is young and drinking?" That flawed thinking of putting blame on age and alcohol/drugs has allowed a lot of people to commit terrible crimes and only be mildly punished for them. A good time can be had by all, indiscretions made by many but we should never, ever remove a person's responsibility for their actions by blaming age, gender or alcohol.

Ms. Smith   December 6th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

To all you "get a grip types", grow up. The young "men" in the photo were doing what young dunken men do - acting like idiots. Fine! But, we need no more idiots in Washington, let alone in the White House, than we already have. I say – send the "young man" to the pavement looking for a more appropriate line of work than writing speeches for our next President.

Dixie   December 6th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

Ms Brown,
You really like to stir, don't you? You defend Palin and her wardrobe, then rip Hillary because you feel offended. Hillary is mucho smart. She can take care of herself. You are mostly all bias and bull.

Will   December 6th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Typical lib democrat, the funny thing is how those libs here who are supporting this idiot would be foaming at the mouth if he were a republican.

Oh yeah, America is gonna be reminded of what it truly means to be a liberal Democrat, keep em comin!!!

Mike   December 6th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Honestly, I must opine on the side of those have labeled this "no big deal." Much of what is wrong with our country is that we have lost our collective sense of humor. I had a very responsible and very public position at 27. There was no internet back then, but if there had been, I might have been just as goofy as this young man. I've certainly done and said some very politically incorrect things, usually in an effort to be funny, without meaning to be disrespectful of or to anyone. Cut your fellow Americans some slack!

Lyndsey   December 6th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Clearly his speech writing skills overshadow his photo etiquette. Obama was elected, right? He's 27, calm down. I don't understand why the people who comment on this story are more offended than Hillary Clinton seems to be. Maybe bitter Republicans are trying to validate their point that Obama will exhibit poor judgment when executing presidential appointments? Who knows. Seriously, lighten up. Anyway, I thought it was kind of funny...

petena   December 6th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Stupid move on his part. I hope he does not get a highly appointed position untl he grows up. He needs to learn his lesson. silly boy

Steve   December 6th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Giggle!!!!!

nidia   December 6th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter and not a big fan of Hillary... not happy at all she got the position she has now. BUT we should put an 'EX' before 'speech writer of Obama'. I also disagree with some comments above indicating Jon is ONLY 27...not 37! Well, maybe he should apply for the same job at 37 then! At a time when the many people have lost their jobs, I am sure better behaving people are waiting to take over. Fire him!

D   December 6th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

lol @ all the holier then thou comments and people getting all up in arms about it. Way to blow things WAYYYY out of proportion. Its pretty clear it was done as a joke at a party and no harm was meant at all. Have you no sense of humor?

Bob   December 6th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

With everything Hillary has been through with good ol' Bill, I'm really not surprised that she's not taking this too seriously.

Maybe all of you could learn a thing or two about lightening up.

CSU Obama and Clinton Supporter   December 6th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

People make mistakes and this was sure a stupid one. However, this should not ruin his career. Some disciplinary measures should be taken but they should not be his resignation, nor admittance to the State Department. The kid obviously has some talent and this one act should not jeopardize him using that talent.

Hey Obama,   December 6th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

This guy needs to go. Right now.

I don't want my tax dollars paying for this guy to exist.

mary   December 6th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

oh gosh. he was just joking around. he apologized... sure he wasn't thinking in advance that it might come back to haunt him. but there are worse things the could've done. if he can do his job that's what is important. not everyone can be a stick in the mud.

Andrew   December 6th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

umm.. why is this news? The media sure is picking some top notch stories to cover.

PJ   December 6th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

He lacks the judgement to be a speechwriter for the President of the United States. There was a very good point made about whether the "boys will be boys" reaction would be the same if it was a cardboard cutout of Michelle Obama. Disrespecting Senator Clinton is acceptable apparently but would it be acceptable to disrespect Mrs. Obama in this way and still work for the POTUS? Don't think so....

Sasha   December 6th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I'm confused by all the posts basically claiming "that's what happens at guys' night out." Do you not see the girls in the photo? This wasn't guys night out that got out of hand. This was Jon being Jon. This is obviously who he is, and this is obviously what he thinks is funny. Which is no problem if you're just some shmuck in middle America, or my husband, or your son, or the crazy guy at the party last week at the neighbor's house. However, this isn't just some nobody; this is a person with a high-level job in the White House, working side-by-side with the President of the United States. That kind of guy needs to be taken more seriously than this. Obama can find someone who writes great speeches AND has outgrown his college diapers. he needs to set an example and clean up his own house before he cleans up the White House. (FYI – I voted for, campaigned for, and contributed to Obama every step of the way!)

HCCrusader   December 6th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I love the people criticizing Jon. It must be absolutely surreal to be perfect, no? With everything going on in the world, I'm thrilled that this is making headlines. And no, I'm not a Democrat, I'm a Republican.

j in mich   December 6th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

considering jon knew he was in a position to be scrutinized by the public, that was a dumb move; however, seeing so much of the public pretend to be absolutely offended by his goofy behavior probably made it all worthwhile

trisha2   December 6th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

i don't care that he's doing this sort of thing.

actually, it makes me laugh because this makes Obama look like a complete fool. this is who penned his famous words? brilliant. it totally delegitimizes his speeches as being awe inspiring, heartfelt, whatever. because of the ghostwriter. amazing.

Funny Pic from DC   December 6th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

It's a stupid picture, but I think too many people are overreacting. He knew it wasn't a good idea since he tried to remove it from the website. People need to just let it go, and as the facebook generation gets older, more of these things should be expected.

Erik   December 6th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Get a life people. It was a harmless goofing around by a couple of friends. People in this country need to relax a little. Get off your high horse. If every little move you made was scrutinized, how would you look to the public?

Ravi   December 6th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

This was unacceptable. No apology should be allowed to suffice. The guy is 27, which is an ADULT. He's way past college. If I were Barack, I'd get rid of this loser.

umm wait a second pt2   December 6th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Yes he's 27... and yes, he's old enough... he should've known better.

This is a great lesson for all. Be careful of what you do. You never know when somebody's gonna put you on his MySpace, or his Facebook, and you're messed up for life...

Kathie, Houston, TX   December 6th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Stupid is as stupid does. I do not care how talented this person may be. When you take a position like this you are held to a higher standard. We have had 8 years of this crap, do not need any more of this "college prank" atmosphere. He needs to step up to the plate and realize that his actions have consequences. He needs to resign.

Maggie Cotter   December 6th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

to sue in MI: The image did not disrespect women, it was a joke on a politician and btw if you took that personally, then you answered your own question to why a woman didnt take office. Emotion needs to be left at the door. when you are president, you're not a person, you are a figure that represents Americas beliefs, Americas policies ect and once you get emotional, you express your weaknesses.

SusanM   December 6th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Olivia   December 6th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

I'm a stay-at-home, soccer mom to two young daughters. I was a strong Obama supporter form his earliest primary days. I worked hard for the campaign in my hometown (Houston), and contributed what I could, when I could. The long campaign made me dislike Clinton quite a bit & I am not altogether comfortable with her nomination as Sec. of State. That said, I believe STRONGLY that Jon Favreau should be fired immediately. I am deeply offended by the photos. I have to say I will lose a great measure of respect for Obama if he allows Jon to stay on his team. Not just because it seems to fly in the face of everything he said he stands for, but because I will always find it difficult to believe in any of his future speeches, knowing they could have been written by an overgrown frat boy.

John   December 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

I think this is one of the funniest things I've seen and it sounds like Hillary liked it. Bill certainly isn't giving her any attention.

This was supposed to be a private incident by a 27-year old speechwriter (not a politician) who was partying like most young men of his age.

The person who posted the photo on facebook and the author of this Ticker post should be ashamed of themselves. They owe Jon Favreau and Hillary Clinton an apology.

Douglas   December 6th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Was he on the clock? Maybe a free party in a free country? Freedom of press? freedom of speech? Freedom of expression? Maybe in another country you all would have had a good time watching his public hanging? He did a great job working for the Obama campaign.
Do any of you critics have a halo over your heads? He has done nothing wrong. LONG LIVE FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!

This is not Obama's fault or anyone's fault, experiment, live and learn.
We live in an immediate world, someone fart's and it is heard around the world in 90 seconds. Chalk it up to what it is, fun in poor taste and move on.

If we were all perfect, we would have no problems to solve. Let's try to fix the ones we have.

J. McKinney   December 6th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

As so many have stated already, he is only 27, still immature, etc. Understandable that he would do something like this, drunk, at a party.
But--what I don't understand is why, at his young, immature age, he is the head speechwriter for what will be the leader of the free world.
This is scary.

Lil p   December 6th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Can you say "MORON"? I don't think the picture is sexist, but it sure is STUPID!!! Your telling me that this guy didn't know what he was doing because he was drunk? please no excuses, except full responisibility. Dumb frat boy. Why would Obama want a idiot like that working for him anyway? Fire him. Hire someone intelligent enough to not do stupid things, even if he/she is drunk.

Veteran in VA   December 6th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

You can't BE SERious... This isn't Sexist... He's a person at a party.. goofing around and hamming it up for a photo with a cardboard cut out of a famous person... If he was pictured kissing a fathead on the wall of Micheal Jordan would he be branded homophobic? If a female-peer of his was snapped doing the same thing wouldn't we all presume it was just a gag pose? I have had to go fight a WAR during the last administration for stupid reasons. THAT is an issue to get excited about... Sure he's goofing around, but he's not even really being insulting to her. Like the piece reports even SHE found it mildly amusing. C'mon: EVERYBODY (young-old-sober-drunk-male-female) *Everybody* goofs for a photo next to a carboard cut-out of a famous person... Is the guy with the beer saying she's a drunk? NO!.. They are PRETENDING to be inappropriate or "overly informal" with an image of an authority figure... I don't care if he was stone sober. So WHAT!? It's a gag photo people! Lighten the * up!!... We have real stuff to deal with. Save your mental space for real scandals & No he shouldn't be fired... wt* is the matter with you people!?! Do you want speeches written buy some overly inhibited mope without even a mild sense of humor? God help me.

This is the disgusting man behind Obama's speeches! Next time we here Obama give a speech, maybe the listeners (media included) will realize the person who wrote the words is not Obama, and they will remember this photo. This demonstrates the emptiness of the words and illustrates the selfish, controlling intent behind the rheoric.

Jane   December 6th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

To those giving this guy excuses because of his young age...yes, he's young, but why on earth did Obama hire some young kid to be his speechwriter?? Let him have his young fun, yes, but let him wait until he's 40 or so to handle a job of that caliber.

Dr Steve   December 6th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

I'm sure this young man is more than a bit embarrased, but to be critical and outraged about this is absurdly rediculous. Obviously this was at a party and people (including myself) do "silly" things when having a good time. This in no way disrespects Mrs. Clinton, this is NOT SEXIST.
This is a paper cut-out. Oh please drop the high minded outrage as everyone in the world has laughed at such things at parties, during Happy Hour, and in political comics, etc. Drop it. Should the guy with the beer bottle be stoned as well? The outrage is pathetic.

Trevor Guerlain   December 6th, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Ann   December 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

If it were a party where Obama was hung in effigy ..there would be outrage (as well it should be)..it would be racism

If it were a party where a cardboard Hillary Clinton was being groped and abused..where is the outrage..it is sexism

It is ..it is..it is...
We don't say "boys will be boys" when a cardboard political figure is lynched

So..face it..you are sexist if you do not see the harm in this..

fire this idiot, Mr. Obama. he is a direct representative of your administration. either you, Mr. Obama, are truly for and are change or you are more of the same if you keep this imbecile on your payroll.

Get real   December 6th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

I think it's absurd to try and drum up a story when these people clearly were joking around at a party. If Hilary was a good sport about it, what does that tell you? To me a glaring issue here is the media's insatiable need to invade peoples' private space and get a story where there really is none. Can no one ever have a relaxed moment again? It has been a long hard primary and election. CB, you need to find something better to do.

Dale   December 6th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Immature- yes, Sexist- absolutely, Typical guy stuff-yes

But the person who took the picture and posted it, is not a friend of Jon Favreau. This person owes Jon an apology and Jon owes Obama one because he works for him and this is not a positive reflection of his boss.

Wake up 20 year olds, what you say and how you act does matter. No matter where you are.

me in atlanta   December 6th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

To the people who are defending this young man and asking why it is so terrible for him to have a little youthful fun, well, he's in politics. Politics is largely about image, meaning those involved in politics are held up to a higher standard. This Favreau guy is held up to a higher standard than the rest of us. He's director of speechwriting for someone who is ostensibly the most powerful man in the world. If he can't project a professional image, or doesn't have the common sense to know that it might not be a good idea for him specifically to get drunk and pose for a photo of a stupid act, then perhaps he has no place in Obama's cabinet.

It would be different if this photo were taken on his 21st birthday, likely long before he had political aspirations. But the blog entry does read that this was taken at a "recent party." Favreau is clearly not a careful individual. I think that disqualifies him right there.

P.S. Favreau should drop the "friend" who posted the photo, because that guy is obviously braindead. Either that, or he did it on purpose ...

Amber   December 6th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

I'm an Obama supporter and I can see why some people can be disgusted by this. But really if you think about it this recent election was really uptight and a lot of bs come out of it. I can totally see why he did this: to have fun. Ya Hillary Clinton happened to be in the middle, but who cares? If she was really damaged by it then she would said something else about it instead of, “Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon’s obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application.” She's probably laughing about it. I think it's hilarious (I'm not a supporter of Clinton)!

demos   December 6th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Gee guys,

Sexism here, resignation there ... gosh lighten up people, even Hilary Clinton finds that amusing in the real sense of the term. As far as i am concerned, l am loving every pixel of it.
:)

Jberry   December 6th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

What a tool. My question is, who alerted the press? How did these pics get into the blogosphere so quickly? Does he have any privacy protections on his account?

30 year woman   December 6th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

I think this is hilar-ious!

is bennyhanamaui kidding?   December 6th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

It's not difficult to tell this guy didn't vote for Obama and is as racist as they come. And he's saying the speech writer is sexist.
Who's he kidding. Takes one to know one I would say.

Pat M   December 6th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

In my Humble Opinion – this is Much Ado About Nothing. From where I'm sitting Favreau doesn't look to me like he was aware of where his hand was positioned and where it was positioned doesn't look to be in the place described in the News Report. It is obvious he and his Friend were having a few drinks. Let's be real, it happens even to politicians. No need to make a misdomeanor a criminal offense.

wait what?   December 6th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

everyone keeps saying "he's 27" yeah well he is also the chief speech writer for the next President of the U.S. I do not care how old he is he has a very important position and must act professional! I am a 24 y/o male and I would not do this! Its absurd for you to try to justify this it is wrong on so may levels!

Much to do about nothing   December 6th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Media is trying to create a controversay. The man did not use the best judgement of course, but it isn't that lewd a photo. He apologized and hopefully will learn from his mistake. But that should be the end of it.

Hey Larry
I agree, may be moderators are just BIAS.

Wages   December 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

"The wages of sin is death". I don't think this young man would like to see someone else hold a cutout of his mother or sister in simmilar pose, from a party or not. Excusing this behavior just because its common show how far we have fallen. God have mercy on us!

GimmeABreak!   December 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

There's nothing distinguished about 99% of politicians. Anyone who thinks that it is essentially a mindless idol worshipper. I mean, the woman's husband stuffed a cohiba up some chick's muff on the clock in the office. This is nothing.

Isn't this Favreau twink a big ole 'mo anyhow? Not that I care, but he just pings my gaydar to the high heavens.

I'm just amazed that after Obama won the primaries Favreau didn't have someone essentially maintaining these types of websites.

Just Rude   December 6th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Furthermore, he should resign because he took 1 picture which was obviously a joke and all in good fun?

Puhleeze.

You people find the oddest times to want to hold people accountable for their actions and punish them.

frank   December 6th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Jon Favreau is a smart guy but had a stupud mind. And he doesn't deserve any positions on President Obama administration.

PA politico   December 6th, 2008 3:47 pm ET

I'm 26, and I also work in politics, although not in such a prestigious position as this guy. However, I would never pose for a picture like that or even get caught drinking alcohol in a photograph. If I did something like this, I would be fired and so would anyone else. This guy deserves to be FIRED for his stupidity alone. You wanted change America, do you really want these children to be working in the White House at this critical juncture?

usualone   December 6th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

This guy will have to be serious enough soon enough. Sure it was in bad taste, but it wasn't a breathing human being, something that happens to live people we see too much on tv shows during prime time. We women know how you guys think, and you haven't changed over the years. These days women will do the same thing to males as evidenced by comments seen earlier in this column. I am sure the live Hillary would not let this guy do this - and am sure he wouldn't be inclined to do so. He is human, not perfect.

Just Rude   December 6th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Jon Favreau had the picture quickly removed/untagged from Facebook.

CNN, why don't you remove it as well? Do you not get it?

Pete   December 6th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I think Obama and his staff need to come clean first. There are many questions surrounding Obama that have not been answered.

Obama and his staff should complete access to their FB (and other) accounts before prying into others... Let him/her who has not sinned cast the first stone..

Necie   December 6th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Too funny....but why is it news?

Corndog   December 6th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Who's the chick in the cardboard cutout? ...she's hot!

Joe Green   December 6th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

"Stupidity at a high level. Shame on this jerk. What has happened to maturity and respect? How do you erase this picture that will be around forever. Infinity is forever."

Calm down. Don't twist your panties in a knot, Hillary.

1. He's 27 years old.

2. It's not like he was naked or something.

3. I think the photo is funny.

4. WHO GIVES A RATS ARSE?

5. CNN thinks this is "news"

Now everyone go back to your soylent green crackers and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Next up: Naked photos of a celebrity! More news at 8!

tiredofher   December 6th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Erin   December 6th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Gotta love the "boys will be boys" comments... personally, I'm not super-offended by it, but I'm just upset by the fact that if it were females grabbing the crotch of a Bill Clinton cut-out, they'd surely have lost their jobs by now.

i'm a woman and I don't think that they were being sexist.

the sexist are the ones who think that they were being sexist.

looking back at the things i've done at 27; i'd say that those guys are tamed.

and all you PRUDES need to put a cork in it....i bet most of you get drunk on a regular basis.

Marty   December 6th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

For all the people who say this is just a young, harmless act of a typical 29 year old male. Would you still feel that way if the same picture of a similar high level McCain staffer was taken with a cardboard cut-out of Michelle Obama? I don't think so. Once again, I think people are forgiving the Obama machine for things they would never forgive the Clintons or McCain or Palin for.

70s child   December 6th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

This is why I am glad there was no internet or cell phone cameras when I was his age.

kim,ca   December 6th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

thanks for making a mockery of the country. if this was some low-level affair, then fine. But we're talking about a person who worked directly for the President of the US, writing out what he will say to the world. That's serious business and if you can't conduct yourself according to that role, then something must be done.

Ted van Tol   December 6th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

I think I have to wait a few days when the second CNN moderator is
at work (again for so many times!)

laurie   December 6th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

This is completely sexist. I don't care if these guys are drunk or not, they should know better than to behave like that. And like it or not, it is objectification, plain and simple. Surprisingly, it's one of the only examples of genuine sexism Clinton has seen during this entire campaign from the Obama camp....and if you don't think it's sexist, imagine the cardboard cut out is of Obama or McCain, and Favreau's hand is on his crotch. Yep, he's 27, but he's an Obama speech writer. It's time to act like it. And for everyone who is crying this is not sexism, wake up and get off of your tractors, please. It doesn't have to be the REAL Hilary Clinton and a real breast to make it not offensive.

Cheryl Healey   December 6th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

This is indicative how Obama staffers have treated Clinton throughout the entire campaign. He needs to resign. There is no room for this nonsense in the new administration.

Yes, I am a whining feminist. I've got a lot of nerve getting pissed off over this, just the lastest of a string of incidents perpetrated by a few Obama staffers/supporters. If this clown had dressed in black face, or had made demeaning poses with a black person, he would have been fired/forced to resign immediately.

Don't get me wrong: I absolutely adore our next President and worked very hard on his election. Clearly, President Obama does not share these sentiments. However, I must say that I am sorely disappointed that he has yet to address sexism in the same manner he addressed racism.

For those of you that think this is harmless fun, if it were Clinton folks with a noose around Obama's neck would it be harmless party fun? Once again a clear example of how excepting America is of gender issues but not of racial issues. Women, we are 52% of the population. When are we going to wake up and band together via boycotts, etc. to show the world this is unacceptable!?!?!

Obama Supporter   December 6th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

As an Obama supporter and volunteer, I hope that the President-elect exercises good judgment and fires this guy.

Jay   December 6th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Nothing beats oodles of fake outrage – one of my least favorite parts of modern American culture. Get over yourselves and come on down off the high horse before you take a big fall. Yeah, he ought to know not to post photos of himself online or even allow a photo like that to be taken given his job. Otherwise, to try to blow this up beyond what it is – and apparently the Clinton staff took it at face value and laughed it off – is pretty immature and dishonest in its own right. Grow up.

60 yr old white woman   December 6th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I have one thing to say to all those trying to make something huge out of this obvious party prank. Aren't you glad that Facebook, Myspace, etc. wasn't around when W was in college?

Sally on Cape Cod   December 6th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Here we go again! It just doesn't stop does it? The disrespect for Hillary and women in general from the Obama camp are apalling. Most comments are, so what, he's young and drunk. HE'S ON THE PRESIDENT-ELECT'S STAFF. Do any of Obama's people have any respect for the office or the position they hold or the office of any others, especially women. This guy has the emotional level of an adolescent on a playground or he has a drinking problem or both. He should be fired.

David Newport, OR   December 6th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

as I read through these posts, I wonder why, if you all are so perfect, why aren't you running for a political office? What do you have to give to this country?

Terry B.   December 6th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

*LOL* coping a feel off of a cardboard cut out.... I am sure there is some kind of therapy for that....

Johnny Prov   December 6th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Wow. Sad. Funny. Still sad. Bad? No. Weird? Yes. Why is the other one holding her head like that? They look like two future rapists waiting to happen. Where does a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton come from anyway? How does Bill feel about all this? Is he angy? Is he secretly demanding that cardboard cutouts of himself be placed at these swank, political-elite, all night beer binges? And, How much is that going to cost us?

mike   December 6th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

No Hillary = No Obama   December 6th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

And now you know what your President-elect is all about – winning and himself. This is why no woman should consider running for VP or President because male misogynists continue to rule the day. These are the people Obama is allowing to put words in his mouth. We knew Obama only patrionized women to get their vote, he has no feminist philosophy – as a matter of fact he has a sterotypical Christmas Card family portrait. The wife is stay-at-home, while he goes out and becomes President. Hillary Clinton needs to take these types of women-hating actions and speak to them. I think she has been too silent on the sexist subjugation that frankly cost her the Presidency.

GM   December 6th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Jen   December 6th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

It was stupid. It was sexist...I don't know that he should lose his job. I don't think it's an excuse to say he was young and drunk...I think it's true and I don't when we started expecting people to be perfect. Some behaviors merit serious consequences, like propositioning under-aged interns, but this...he did what he needed to... apologize. If HC can let it go, then so should the nation :)

I'm glad she's in the cabinet. So far so good Obama/Biden, yes!

I have to add, brown did nothing to aide Hillary in the primaries who cares what brown thinks now, however I just bet people wouldnt be singing this get over it tune had this been Michelle's picture but gee jon probably would never have disrespected Michelle like that. Think people think.

Mike   December 6th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

I'm a big Obama supporter. But this guy should resign. Small error but not the kind of cluelessness or image we need. Harmless, but ready to put 8 years of buffoonery behind us. Let's not say "he's only 27" if he is about to become the director of speechwriting for the leader of the free world. Isn't his whole role about image? I'm a Hillary fan too and did not think Obama's camp was responsible for as much of the sexism that she faced by media, but this is his own team now.

comeonnow   December 6th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Everyone is right that this is not as impacting as the failing economy, millions of home foreclosures, a terrible war or a worsening environment, but that does not mean it is not worth our consideration. Last time I checked, we are capable of thinking about many things at once and even though you may not find this a priority we must all confront acts of sexism, large or small, and disapprove. Take as little or much time as you want disapproving of this incident but I am surprised and saddened that ANY time was spent minimizing this guy's disrespect and immaturity. Get rid of him and move on to the next talented writer. This is a time for great change and improvement in our country and the administration that has promised great things should not have backwards thinkers like this on their team. Grow up frat boy, Americans are going to lead the way on this issue by not standing for this kind of sexist and disrespectful behavior anymore! Right???

Sue in MI   December 6th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I think he should not be the "future White House director" of anything...send him back to his hut. There are many more qualified and mature people out there just itching for a chance.
I doubt that age is a factor. Look at the lewd behavior of Larry Craig, Newt, Clinton, John Edwards, and on and on, and they were all older than this guy. The problem is that we condone such childishness, drinking, and rudeness. We condone it, and act surprised and indignant when it happens. When you don't respect women, you basically don't respect yourself or anyone else.

Keith   December 6th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I am horrified and deeply offended by his lack of judgement here. He has objectified cardboard cutouts everywhere and it's clear he treats pictures of women like pieces of paper. Have you no shame, sir? I hope you get a paper cut.

Lighten up, people. The cardboard cutout didn't mind. The lady in the picture on the cardboard cutout found it amusing. Yes, Jon made a fool of himself at a private party and a picture was taken. Big deal. Are we pretending that he's the only person to do something foolish in his 20's?

Jon, if you're out there and listening, you've done excellent work, and we're very proud of you. Oh, and you can have your way with my picture any time, and I promise I won't post pictures of you on the Internet. Maybe next time you get your friends to promise that too?

I know it was stupid and shows immaturity on his part, but obviously he is a great speechwriter. Look, if you act like a schoolboy idiot, do the time!!!!

I'm sure going forward the young man will adjust himself accordingly.

rachel   December 6th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

If Hillary lets it slide great but replace Hillary and put michelle in that picture and what you all be saying? There would be protests on washington and Obama would be saying they disrespected his wife.

Educated Realist   December 6th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

It seems that there are two negative opinions being expressed by people here. One is the sexiest stance and other maturity stance. First, I will address the sexiest stance. He is in no way shape or form disrespecting Senator Clinton. The item that he is touching is only a cardboard cut out. It is an object that he is touching and not her to those that say he is objectifying her. You people are no better than the US response during the era of the Red Scare, claiming people to be what they are not. If that was what he is doing then, he would have to feel that way and express in various forms, which is not true. The second issue is that of maturity. People need to realize that actions are compatible with situation or environment. The environment of this picture is at party. This is typical behavior at a party whether you are you are 50 years old or 22 years old. This always has to keep in mind the type of party. Obviously this is party with small group of people, not party for function. It is personal format. An example would be of woman walking around in her panties and bra. Most people would find that offensive. Now imagine same person at beach with two bikini that exposes even more skin then the bra and panties, but its not viewed as disrespectful because it in proper environment. People need to spend time judging their own personal action then worrying about others. He has a job and as long as it is performed properly , then on his free time he allowed to do as he wishes. There is a time and place for everything and he clearly know when and where to act. I would agree differently if it was somewhere in open public function. This is America or is it not? freedom is always top priority!!!

Fabian   December 6th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

I think some people are being to sensitive here. During the primaries, a lot of unthical deeds took place on both sides. Remember Clinton's campaign releasing Obama's picture in tribal costume when he was visiting Kenya? If he can get over that and offer a prominent position to the person who was trying to portray him as muslim, then this facebook photo should not be a big deal. We also don't know what Clinton campaign staff did say about Obama behind closed doors. I am sure if they came out, that facebook photo would be nothing. Let's move on and support our new administration. The speech writer deserves a second chance.

Blikmik   December 6th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Mrs Clinton, not getting mad, shows a great amount of character. Why should something as childish as this become a big deal. After all, Mrs Clinton did not blow her cool over the Lewinsky scandal, why should this bothe her. After all, she had all right to lash out at the little intern and did.

WARNING: Off collor joke coming!!!! Look at it this way, Mr Clinton had his tart of an intern so why not let Mrs Clinton have the speach writer. LoL!

fun isn't illegal   December 6th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Can someone, anyone, please tell me how this is sexist? I'm 21 years old, in college and appreciate a few beers with friends and silly pictures, I can't wait to see some one the ones I took last night. In fact I have one somewhere very similar to this of me kissing Wendell, the Miller High Life man. Wendell is African-American, so does that make me racist? I sure don't think so, I was just having harmless fun. What I'm saying is, if sexism is being discriminatory towards someone based on their gender how would this be included? There is no doubt on my mind this guy would likely kiss a Bill Clinton cut just the same. What is the difference, who is he hurting, why is everyone so self-righteous, and what is so wrong with being happy??

Jonathan   December 6th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

May I say that almost every young person in this country has had or still has a Facebook account. Things like this are posted on Facebook sometimes, there's really no getting around it. Some people will say "well, it just demonstrates really bad judgement." That's pretty comical, because I would surmise that those same people have exhibited really bad judgement in their life at some point or another. There may not be photographic or video evidence, but I am sure they have. Bottom line – once people 30 and under become those who are 50 and under or 60 and under, this kind of stuff just will not matter anymore. Nor should it. No human being on this planet is perfect and I think that our society has gotten a little out of control in attempting to tear people down due to "lack of judgement." Thankfully, that will change. I mean, seriously, is there ANYONE who hasn't done something in their life that would disqualify them from the Presidency due to our stringent standards? Probably not.

catmom   December 6th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Oh, people get a grip!! You all will take anything and turn it around and make it something negative as long as you can blame Obama for something. In the grand scheme of things this is unimportant. Bad taste but all in fun. Don't make something big out of someone being stupid. Stop turning everything into sexism or racism. As if people don't do stupid things. Has this antic harmed the American people? I think not. What you all should be concerned with is what is the President, the current President doing about the economy and all the jobs being lost.

Jeff   December 6th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

@ Martin- Your old system of kickbacks and paybacks for votes and contributions is what Obama's change is all about. You think Obama needs to bring Latinos and Asians to the cabinet just because they voted for him? Is this the plan that Latinos and Asians have for improving their lot? How about doing it Obama's way and taking the initiative yourself. Obama is picking his cabinet based on skills, education, and experience. Go get some of that Martin and you, too, can look for your just rewards.

So much for the writer of Obama's soaring kool-aid craving oration via teleprompter. Other than that, this kid is apparently a sophomoric jerk with very little judgment. He needs to lose his job. If this had been Don Imus, there would've been a hell of an uproar.

Vignesh   December 6th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Clearly he got drunk, and partied too much. And I hate how people automatically think that because he is holding Hilary in the "chest" are clearly he was guilty of something else ~ it looks more like they are giving the cardboard cutout the opportunity for beer.

It is probably very very bad form for a white house official to get this wasted though. I don't think its sexist, at all. If this is sexist, then Desperate Housewives is sexist against males, seriously.

hoightoider   December 6th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

The future White House Director of Speech Writing didn't understand the party is over; but he does now. Hopefully he will also understand brilliance without maturity won't serve the president or him very well.

Bob   December 6th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

*Yawns* self-righteousness is the oldest trick in the book. Poor fellow probably will have a heart attack when he finds this article.

Bev   December 6th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Naw 27 is not a kid. This was every bit disrespectful of women in general, and Hillary Clinton in particular. This guy needs to stand in the unemployment line – where humility and maturity will drop on him in meteorite fashion. I don't care how well he writes, or how bright he is, this mentality has no place in framing any part of the new administration. Change means bringing respect back to the executive branch. Pink skip this guy ASAP.

Broken   December 6th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Eh? Young guy at a party.
Stupid private life mistake.

Clearly he is a monster and should have his life and career destroyed.

Chillout people.

NJVote08   December 6th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Young or not, everyone should watch how they behave. You never know what will happen these days.

ju   December 6th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

What is most hysterical is the future-State Dept response. It's refreshing that govt officials show their human side.

That being said, he's gotta go. Standards of respect and professionalism have to be established early on. He should respectfully resign. He'll have a fine career elsewhere given his accomplishments in the campaign.

Piero   December 6th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

He has got to resign. His days serving for Obama and any hopes being part of Obama's presidency should end immediately. This is not just an afront to Clinton but to my mother and his own mother who should be more embarrased than any woman – unless both mother and son are mentally coockoos!

NJVote08   December 6th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

martin December 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Obama supporters have been disgusting, sexist, and rude to Hillary during the campaign. This isn't a surprise. Obama supporters on the left are worse than some of McCain supporters on the right.

Also notice that Obama ignored Latinos and Asians in his cabinet while both groups voted heavily for Obama. Isn't it interesting that the GOP was the first to appoint a Latino to the top for cabinet posts and an Asian to Sec. of Transportation.

Its funny. Watch Democrats deny the first Vietnamese American a seat in the House and instead, give it to a black man who is indicted for taking bribes and hiding it in his freezer.

This is how drunks act. Nothing new... majority of drunks are offensive..in addition to (Geoffrey Sperl @ Martin: who flip'n cares what race people are as long as he picks the right ones for the job. Wanting someone of a specific skin color is a bit racist I think Martin grow up and get over yourself)

Gene   December 6th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

This is a young guy getting drunk and having fun... big deal. All you people who are outraged.. please tell me you've done worse in your young life.. so I don't feel completely sorry for you.

Now putting the picture up on facebook when you're already in politics.. well, that's just stupid lol

BS_detector   December 6th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Oh calm down. Think of it this way.... if Hillary had actually been at that party, do you think they'd do the exact same thing??? It's a frickin cardboard cut-out, people!!!!! I would bet that everyone on here has at some point been caught doing something inappropriate and childish growing up. It's just that now with sites like Facebook and Myspace, pictures can quickly get circulated worldwide. What's sad is that if he wasn't an Obama aide (or an aide to any politician for that matter), this wouldn't have been reported. Guess it's a really slow day in the CNN newsroom.

Jeff Brown   December 6th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

At least he wasn't caught trolling men's bathrooms or hiring a male prostitute like Bush's backers!

lol   December 6th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Honestly, if I hear this as some sort of "oh look at the punks Obama gets" - are you kidding me? He's young, he's stupid, this happens. What, you didn't think anyone in the McCain camp ever cracked sexual jokes? Please, the McCain headquarters near me were filled with quite a few young gentlemen with the same humor. Actually, I shouldn't even say quite a few, because that's an understatement.

This is exactly what American politics has come to - instead of the public wanting to know how we're going to get out of money/security/housing/health/laundry list of troubles, oh – let's just focus on the entertainment side of news. Might as well make news on E!

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Brian   December 6th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

No big Deal...so what!

Our society is becoming so uptight and too politically correct. People need to learn how to loosen up and stop trying to look for ways to be offended by anyone.

Americans need to develop a thicker skin just like you were taught on the playground....I'm rubber and you are glue....

This is very disrespectful and unacceptable. A 27 yrs, or even 17 yrs should not do such a act

sandee in Portland   December 6th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

As a woman, I've made fun of men's different parts of the body verbally when with other women. I guess in today's age that would be sexist. For crying out loud people, he's 27, still immature and was clowning around with his friends. I think our country would be better off without all these politically correct people and a few more laughs never hurt.

How many of you bloggers that are so unnerved by this have done the same type of thing whether by joke, action, etc. I bet very few. As as woman, I do not consider this sexist.

carol   December 6th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Oh, get off your high horses some of you prudes on here....it's all done in good fun....would it have been more appropriate if he had a gun in his hand as that seems to be alright.
Having a gun in a picture or a movie is more acceptable here than showing a little bare skin or something like this which is all in good fun.
I know which I'd sooner see, a good humour joke or a gun being branded about.... give me the joke anytime!!! Please get get off this holier than thou kick!!

This will be very interesting to read the post on this blog, some will make a big deal out of it,many will go into total denial, saying it's no big deal. The people that will take one stance here, would reverse their thinking in a heart beat if the subject were the opposite party. The only thing we all have in common is we all have an opinion we want to post.

There isn't a man, woman, of any color, creed, nationality, or age that doesn't engage in stupid behavior from time to time. We must stop focusing too much on the necessary "sainthood" of public figures, and instead concentrate on the substance of their distinction which has propelled them to such high positions. To quote Saint Augustine (in his youth), "Grant me chastity and continence, but not yet."

If a 27 year old is going to have that much responsibility and want's a leadership role in the state department he should be held accountable for this unappropriate behavior. This type of behavior would not be condoned in any corporate work place in america. dismissing it as good old fun only undermines this kind of respect in the work place that all serious corporations have been promoting through ethics programs. What is shocking also is that this guy posted the picture on facebook himself in his own profile.

Zane   December 6th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Everyone who's calling this sexism just shut up. This was a picture taken by a few young guys who were probably pretty drunk at some party. Sure, you could say this is "objectifying women" or sexist, but you could also say this is a young guy that was just having some fun. I would bet that 99% of all men (or, at least, male politicians) have done or said something (probably many somethings) that could be construed as sexist. I'm a big Obama supporter, but I have no doubt that at some point in his life (perhaps around the same age as Favreau) he has said or done something which, if all of you knew, would be overblown and called sexist. People have been making "sexist" jokes and remarks since the dawn of humanity, and sexuality has been around much longer than that. I find it completely understandable that something like this has happened, does happen, and will continue to happen. Do you think that because he appeared in a picture apparently groping Hillary Clinton, he's actually going to do that if he gets the chance? Or maybe, he'll write a sexist joke into one of Obama's speeches? OF COURSE NOT! I'd be willing to bet you that every member of Obama's administration, male or female, black or white, Latino or Asian, gay or straight, or anything else, has at some point made a joke or remark that could be construed as sexist, racist, homophobic, heterophobic, or something else entirely, and yet, despite that, is never going to make any action that reflects those remarks. I am honestly really getting tired of this ultra-liberal, hardcore political correctionist attitude, and I'm extremely liberal. I believe in being politically correct, obviously, but to say that because a 27-year-old, probably not far out of college, is going to do something politically stupid because he appears in a photograph doing something "sexist" is just wrong, and when it comes to things like this, everyone needs to just shut up.

John S.   December 6th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Yes, Jon is 27 years old, there's a lot of young people in politics, especially in the Obama campaign. If he isn't a smart, mature, dependable, and a dang good speech writer then he wouldn't be on the President-Elect's team.

The guy had a little fun at a party and acted foolishly did things he normally wouldn't do, the same thing that happens to everyone else once intoxicated. To call for his head over this is completely unnecessary.

He knows he's done something wrong, and(according to this article) figured it out and promptly removed them. He's apologized, the Clinton 's entourage obviously sees it as a gaff, he's most likely been reprimanded, and he's still in line for the job, so move on.

Rahf in San Angelo   December 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

I think we need to take a moment away from the judgmental norm. Cameras are everywhere. The young man is obviously intoxicated and this lapse in judgment clearly has no bearing or his ability as a speechwriter. People often find it easy to stand high and look low.

julie   December 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

It was just in fun. Do any of you old people ever remember being young? Do you remember doing anything perhaps a little stupid in hindsight....stop being so critical of absolutely everything. If Hillary is ok with it, then why gripe. We have much bigger problems in our world than just guys being guys behind the scenes! Don't act like none of you men ever spoke or gestured women as being sex symbols. And any of you women that think your man hasn't in their entire lives....you are in denial. Much bigger issues.....

Obama is tarnished   December 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

If this guy is on the white house staff come January 20th then Obama will lose a LOT of support among women and men. This is a tasteless vulgar insult to Hillary Clinton - and is indicative of the disrespect the Obama campaign threw at Senator Clinton during the campaign. DISGUSTING.

Mr President elect – stand up and be a man and oss this jerk off your staff before you get some heat

hhusmcret   December 6th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

This is a perfect representation of how Obama got elected. Favreau is representative of the demographic that the Obama camp pursued throughout the campaign. If you subtracted votes received from the immature, un-knowing, politically ignorant, facebook/youtube using youth in our society, McCain wins. Period.

Anne   December 6th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

I am so sick of women and their fake outrage. As a woman I find it amusing. .

Calypso   December 6th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

I’ve been reading the excuse for Jon’s behavior is that he was drunk……how the hell does anyone know IF he was drunk and HOW drunk he was?? Excuses, lies, distortions, disrepect towards those who disagree…typical of Obama and his supporters.

Those of us who have been taught to respect others simply would NOT whether sober or drunk , engage in such demeaning sexist behavior.

The woman in the background is smiling her approval. What would the Obama team response have been if it had been a cutout of Michelle O.??

Sylvia   December 6th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

I'm sure there's some more deserving candidate that possesses more thoughtfulness, restraint and professionalism than this guy apparently has.

Shawna Mills   December 6th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Big deal. I'm a woman, and I couldn't care less. Get over it – boys will be boys.

Andrew   December 6th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Over rated. Granted it is a little over the top, i don't believe that it is the great evil thing many people have made it out to be. It was just some guys having a bear and a little fun!! An apology is all that is necessary, nothing more. And i am happy to see that Clinton hasn't become overly dramatic about a relatively unimportant event.

SHELLI   December 6th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

What the hay! Hillary Clinton has said and done far worse than this young man and she is now slated for S.O.S. She and her husband Bill have played the Race card, made racial slurs and said that the Republican John McCain is a better suit for the Preisdents job than President-Elect Obama. SO what this young man did is nothing compared to the woman that lied and said that she had to duck and run to the car because of SNIPER FIRE! Get over this messy mess.

I think this probably an age thing. I think most people in there twenty's would probably find this as funny. Seriously it's a cardboard cutout at a someone's house. Dumb judgment to let that be photographed but it was obviously meant as a joke in a private setting.

Interested   December 6th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Why Should Obama even consider letting him go?

Are you by any means trying to imply that everyone is perfect? Most people have done a stupid thing or two under the influence of alcohol.

Also, if Clinton does not show any anger at this photos, then who are we to call the shots on it.

Gosh! I really do not get what goes on in some peoples' heads. If each and every slightly stupid action of someone in public office was to be met with losing their jobs, then trust me, there will not be a hand full of people working in the US government.

We all have skeletons in our closets.

Live with it!!!

Jason in Juneau   December 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

We've all done some stuff that we probably shoundn't have, maybe with mocking our bosses or trashing a co-worker. However, with technology today it can get out in the open in a matter of seconds. I'm sure he's sorry but that looks like a nice get together he was at.

Patrick in Toronto   December 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Somebody so infantile should not have any position with the POTUS. He needs to go back to the fraternity house and live with the other party animals. I can't believe Obama would abide this behavior and if he does, well, that tells us something, doesn't it?

Brielle   December 6th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Let's be real–this kind of stuff occurs at all ages. Young professionals are just more likely to have it caught on camera and put on Facebook than older professionals. Was it wrong and sexist? Of course. Should it end his career? No. We have too much to worry about in this country, to let ourselves get caught up in stupid antics. Even though he exhibited poor judgment in that moment, it doesn't mean he's any less capable of being a great speech writer. The humiliation and ridicule he'll get is enough of a lesson for him to never do that again. Just let the kid get on with his career.

Nicholas   December 6th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Silence Dogood   December 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

This was the kind of sexist behavior that Obama depended on during the campaign. Obama wasn't there but his lack of guidance was a deliberate action. Obama is very smart and he knew this kind of thing was going on in his followers, as a general pattern. And he used it.

A nasty campaign by using people.

Always question your leaders.

John   December 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

I wonder if a Clinton staffer had put chains around an Obama cut out and taken a picture if the press wouldn't be asking for his or her head. If this guy isnt fired it will be an outrage. But the Obama press will cover this for a day and then let it go. Even by the title on the front page. They would never have presented this possibly being a joke if about Obama.

Vik   December 6th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

What kind of idiot would post it on facebook! Was he still drunk when he did it? LOL, dumb move, that will cost him a few points.

Pat   December 6th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

This is not a big deal – AT ALL. Let's put this "incident" in perspective. Failing economy, millions starving do death around the world – and yet people get all worked up about a photograph? This is pure idiocracy.

cheryl   December 6th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Gee, once again, the media is all but ignoring an example of blatant sexism while they are ripe to pounce on any small hint of racism. Bill Clinton was pummeled for comparing Obama's SC win to Jesse Jackson's. Yet an Obama administration member can be part of a picture that depicts beer being poured down the throat of Senator Clinton while being groped merits hardly a whisper. Pathetic. This punk should be let go asap. Scary to think Obama would choose such an immature imbecile to put words into his mouth.

Ryan   December 6th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Dennis   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Happy holidays!

Pat Pa.   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

I guess this is one of those things called " learning the hard way ".

Stupid. stupid, on his part. When will everyone learn that no matter where you are, and what you are doing, someone will be there with a camera and the next thing you know, bang, your picture is out there.

He needs to face Hillary in person and offer his apology. Doing it through the media is not good enough.

Lew   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

The problem is not that Jon did this, but that Obama tolerates it. Another blow for the "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" Obamaniacs. How long will they continue to make excuses for their saviour?

Tim from the Heart of NY   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

I think the response was wonderful - an ingeneous put-down of a guy who was thoughtless and looked like he was fresh from the bottle. It's nice to have a piece of Washington that doesn't have to make a big issue about a dumb act but can treat it with some humor.

So What   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Why is anything with sexual references automatically considered sexism?? It was a stupid picture by an obviously immature individual who did not consider the consequences of his actions. End of story. Get off the high horse and stop preaching about the evils of men and how this degrades women. i have seen plenty of pictures of women posing with men making lewd gestures. Who cares?? It is not the downfall of society people. Relax.

Of course there is no option but to let this guy go and let him grow up. When you are in a position such as his, you need to be careful about your actions. That is why you never should drink at an office party.

YT   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

I'm a feminist and have said and done many politically incorrect things in the name of goofing off and having fun, things I'd never do in a public setting where my actions could be misconstrued. This picture may mean nothing more than that for him. He should have used better judgment as a public figure, even if he is behind the scenes. Lesson learned, I bet.

Memphiskid   December 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

This is completely inappropriate that this guy, apart of Obama's team would do such a dispicable thing! It exhibits his lack of respect for his former boss, Obama and the next secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Although I disagree with both on some issues, never would I do such a thing, obviously this man has no home training and no respect for women or himself! He should be punished and not allowed a spot in Obama's Administration- PERIOD!!

Annon   December 6th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Okay, I agree this was very childish and disrespectful. But I wish the Hillary worshipers would go somewhere and sit down. She's not the messiah!!!

Obama should dismiss this guy from his staff; he doesn't need someone in the White House dumb enough to do something so stupid and then post it on Facebook. Haven't we seen others make this mistake? Men just don't learn and this is one he deserves to pay for in a big way.

There's no time for silly distractions our country has enormous issues to address. Those that aren't mature enough to know they have to project a certain image at ALL times should not be able to be a part of the solution; since ultimaely they are part of the problem. GOOD RIDDENACE...

Michael   December 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

I think this is a big deal. I think it is hypocritical from an Obama speech writer, someone who contributes to all those high-sounding platitudes to fall into this kind of disrespectful behavior when they don't think someone is looking. It makes me wonder how sincere those platitudes are.

What would be the reaction if it was a Clinton aide with with his hand or head on the crotch of an Obama cut-out?

Amara (teen from NJ)   December 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Although a Democrat, and an avid supporter of both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, this incident just made me angry.
As a woman, I find this offensive, and bothersome. This was a stupid act, and a greater apology should be made.
As an active facebook user, one should know how easily things on the Internet can be used, and someone at the age of 27, especially someone who has had a major role in this campaign, should realize what kinds of pictures are being taken and posted, and how they can easily be circulated with sites such as facebook.
All in all, this was a very stupid move by Favreau. I wouldn't want to be harsh and say he should be let off, but this is truly demeaning to women everywhere.
I'm only fifteen, and this incident is making my angry every time I see it. I agree with Campbell Brown on this one.
And I'm really sort of disappointed from Hillary's response. She is my role model, as I was hoping she would set a greater example by setting this incident right.

childish, but not unexpected or overly sexist   December 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

it seems typical of a 27 year old man. not to belittle it, but some are taking this too seriously.

Steph S   December 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

He was holding up a cardboard cutout of the Senator and his friend was offering it a drink. Would it have been offense if that were a cutout of an athlete or some celebrity. So as a woman you demand more respect or equal respect, let's think about that one before we start saying the guy offended all women. You don't speak for me, thank the Lord. Give me a break people. If Hilary is in fact upset, it just shows we made the right choice. I don't want someone in the White House who's that easily upset. In a way, it was nice of them to include her in their party.

Cat   December 6th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Disgusting behavior. He shouldn't get ANY job with the Obama administration and should be fired right away. Everyone knows it takes 1 minute to ruin your reputation, therefore, if you act like a baboon in front of a camera, imagine what this little sexiest punk does when no one is looking!
The children are in charge, God help us. This is going to be a disaster.
Respect ALL women. What's next, Obama hiring Michael Vick?

BreAnna - Military Brat   December 6th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

That was not very good judgement on Mr. Favreau's part. He obviously wasn't thinking of the consequences of his actions, whether he consumed alcohol or not. With that being said, perhaps he'll exercise better judgement in the future and make sure his little sense of humor won't cost him his job, as he is an excellent speech writer. While I'm glad Senator Clinton wasn't too offended, I wish she would have been a little harsher.

maya   December 6th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

it's also a good lesson on life nowadays. before, it was just worrying about hiring illegal immigrants–now it's worrying about your face plastered on every corner of the interwebs in compromising situations.

William, Atl, GA   December 6th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

I see a guy acting the way he should, considering his age, during his own private time.

If you see anything else then you are severely overreaching.

dana   December 6th, 2008 2:30 pm ET

And Obama has remained typically silent over this. O course. Can you imagine if a Clinton staffer had been part of a racist-tinged photo with an Obama cut-out? It would have been the end of that staffer and, perhaps, Clinton's political career. Just more evidence that, where sexism is concerned, most anything goes.

Butch Dillon   December 6th, 2008 2:30 pm ET

I haven't been 27 in a few decades now, but even when I was I acted with more respect than Obama's wet-behind-the-ears speech writer. Life is full of harsh lessons and one of them is now in order for this guy. He should have been out looking for a job as soon as this little stunt was discovered. If he is not forced to face the consequences of his wrongful actions via a firing, we will hear from this punk again, and it will be in a similar reference.

Carson   December 6th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Can we see the Sexism in the Obama camp?
"Yes we Can!"

Emily, MI   December 6th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Oh my goodness he is a MORON. I am glad he is being publicly humiliated. I am not a huge fan of Hillary Clinton, but I am definitely a huge fan of respect for women, and this is incredibly immature and stupid. How old is this guy?!

Mark   December 6th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

MArtin, Bill Richardson is Latino..

frmrobamavolunteer   December 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

NH Mom sums it up nicely, and I call on President-elect Obama to release Favreau from any current or future duties with his administration.

KB   December 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Stupid move and then his friends post it on face book. serves him right he should learn to act stupid off camera. I hope the Obama team educates this moron on how to conduct one self's when your tied to important people.

That being said if he was just the average 27 year old college kid who cares what he did. Sexist acts are validated everyday
you turn on the t.v. listen to the radio watch the republicans pick a woman just to shore up woman votes when we change this behavior maybe we won't be having this conversation anymore.

too funny   December 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

No one, except for Hillary Clinton, should be upset by this. She already knows her impact in society and should take this as a compliment of how much influence she has. Get over yourselves and laugh, the picture is funny

ryan   December 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

This has no relevance at all, me and my 20 yr old roomates drink with our barack obama cut out all the time and of course he becomes the center of attention, its a cardboard cutout that you get at various stores and people show their support, they don't spend $30 to grope it.

rome we are   December 6th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Wow, I need a job.Do a story on what i would do to the cut out.

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   December 6th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

For the rest of his career, no....

For the rest of his life, THIS incident is what this sexist jerk Favreau will be remembered for.....

Kind of like OJ....ignorant and arrogant.

KSue Chicago   December 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

That wasn't an attack on Hillary, it was an attack on Hillary supporters. Senator Clinton wouldn't have been such a strong contender during the primaries if she had little support among voters – of course, many of her supporters were women.

Mike B.   December 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Oh, for crying out loud! This is just a young guy who put an inappropriate photo on his Facebook page. All you Clinton supporters (many of whom are probably disgruntled McCain supporters masquerading at Clinton supporters) need to relax and stop looking for things to criticize. This style of gotcha politics - registering fake outrage at stupid things like "lipstick on pigs" - was a hallmark of the last eight years and need to go away if the U.S. is ever to get out of the Bush quagmire.

Frann Altman in Los Angeles   December 6th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Oh come on, don't blame this on Facebook There are no perils The kid might be intelligent, but perhaps not so mature? He's 27. However, the whole thing is not in sync with Obama's style. And the beer offering kid is wearing an Obama staff t-shirt.

Bye bye opportunity...

Eric   December 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

I'm agree with everyone that it's not a big deal. There is nothing in the pictures that is incriminating, if anything, Sen. Clinton was offended, and he apologized. That should be the end of it. We are so quick to find anything remotely negative about someone in the spotlight and blow it out of proportion, it's getting old.

oh for goodness sake   December 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

I voted for Hillary, then Obama. I'm happy to see that Obama has young people involved. The response to this is ridiculous. Get over it!

Angel   December 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Young people do stupid things....we have all been there done that.......I am sure some of us have done worse....so....

Gary - Denver   December 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

I hope someone in the Obama circle is reading this. I may not be the brightest light on the tree, but I have enough common sense to know how to conduct my self in such an elevated position, and in front of a camera no less!

Jon, don't every take yourself too seriously, but your job, now that's another story.

Jenny   December 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

So what.

Robert   December 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

I find it amusing all these comments about his age and how he's not qualified. Well you baby boomers did a GREAT JOB of sending us into the 2nd Great Depression, so you know what your turn is over. The young people (myself included) aren't too pleased we have to support you during your old age because you screwed us over so much. So if I were you I'd sit down and shut up.

We are tired of your old ideas ruining this country.

Matt, Chico, CA   December 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

alradytireofit... how is this disrespectful to women... he should be let go because he clearly is an immature idiot... similar to the rest of Obama's supporters

BigDeal   December 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

I for one don't have a problem with this. Come on, people! When did fun become a bad thing? Yes, it was stupid and juvenile. But, he is 27. He is intelligent which is evident in his position to President-elect Obama. But even intelligent people want to let down their guard and just enjoy life at times.
Part of the problem is everything is scrutinized and meaning placed on absolutely every action. Some things don't mean anything. How many people here have had a couple of drinks, relaxed, and just enjoyed the friendship of others. The only thing wrong was that someone had a camera and took the picture. I have pics of some people at parties that I am sure could be distorted.

IonaTrailer   December 6th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

No one cares what you do at some party with your frat-boy, retard friends, but DUDE! you don't post stupid stuff to a public website if you want to work in the government. DUH!

Denine   December 6th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

That's awesome! A little laugh in these rough times is something we all need. I'm sure Hillary got a good laugh out of it too.

Shannon   December 6th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

This just goes to show that just because someone takes a picture of you at a party doesn't mean it needs to get plastered all over your FACEBOOK page. It's really not that big of a deal but for someone who has political ambitions, he clearly should have known better.

Max   December 6th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

I LOL'ed at the photo...seriously..get off your high horses people...It was all in good jest....At least people from the incoming administration have a sense of humour and are not petrified blocks of wood....Im pretty sure Senator Clinton has had far worse situations then getting groped as a cardboard cut out....sheesh.

Amanda   December 6th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

That is very funny. Hillary should be pleased that at her age she is still attracting young men.
PS. Ask Bill's opinion on the matter ...

Michael   December 6th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Wow, this is the worst thing that has happened so far? I thought it was something serious like a war or the economy? Glad to see that "silly pictures" that everyone has BTW; is the worse thing to worry about in the Obama administration.

Voter   December 6th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

What an idiot. Yeah, his job's toast. I guess somebody forgot to tell him never to post anything incriminating on the internet since anybody (including your employer) can see it.

And it doesn't sound as if Clinton's reacting to the picture, somehow I don't think that's how she'd react to seeing a drunk young guy who's working for Obama laughing and 'grabbing' her breast in a gesture of obvious mockery and disrespect.

Dan   December 6th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

Who cares, he was having fun at a party. But what a dumb way to damage a career, he should have known better. At the very least, don't let your friends post pictures of you doing stupid things online.

Potato   December 6th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

A 27 year old male doing something incredibly stupid and immature? No way – Go figure! @

Concerned   December 6th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

It is a shame that based on the on-line activities Obama got so much control over the election. Now people will see how immature a group is in charge of the country now. Boy, don't we feel relieved that we made such a sound judgment !!

Larry the trucker   December 6th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

I think its funny. Both the picture and the fact the guy was stupid enough to let his picture be taken like that. He should know in that kind of job that the camera is always on.

Also to Martin, can we please leave race out of who gets what position on his cabinet. I think he's hiring the best person for the job not keeping score of how racially diverse his cabinet is. Can't we just look at people as just American, not (insert race here)/American. I mean yeah be proud of your ancestry and heritage, but your American 1st.

WGraves   December 6th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

With all that going on in world.....who cares. I'm sure he its getting an ear full from The new White House Chief of Staff. Let's not forget people all over have been making fun of Hillery and everyone else in the public spotlight for years. I guess we all forget Saturday Night Live , Comedy Central and many other's.

Jon   December 6th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

lmao...

You guys are calling this sexism? Get real. Plenty of women have danced with cardboard cutouts of men in their day... I've seen it done.

Yes it's immature, perhaps he shouldn't be part of the new administration, but that is something for Obama/his transition team/the new state department to decide.

bob   December 6th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

martin December 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Alice Newman Center Harbor NH   December 6th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

I wish some people felt this deeply offended when our young men and women were sent off to war "with the army we have" – and ended up scrounging around in dumps to find armor for their car ...

Silly and stupid? Yes. Did someone learn a lesson? I'm betting so!

Frankly speaking I am more offended by the CEO's of AIG and CitiBank using taxpayers' money for meetings at fancy resorts, their high salaries and the million of dollar bonus money (our money) that they will get this year.

Guessing those so deeply offended were McCain/Palin supporters. I was also offended by Palin giggling at a slaughter house while live turkeys were being killed behind her on national news.

Lots of stuff to be offended by: a little perspective wouldn't hurt!

JM from MO   December 6th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

People mess up–it is natural to do so. Yes, this situation shouldn't have arisen BUT he IS 27, he IS still young, and he STILL has a lot to learn. He made a simple mistake, like everyone else, in which he probably regrets...so get over it.

Gypsy Zingaro   December 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

OMG. Really? This guy is a speechwriter AND, still more intelligent and mature than Bush. To what is left of the evangelical, puritanical bourgeois who have been maligning this country for the last 8 years– Lighten up, crack open a beer, and relax. The illusory horror that has been stirred in your mind is almost over. If Secretary of State Clinton can laugh about it, what is wrong with you? Why does it matter to YOU? Let it go. Learn to have fun again. And to those of you who are "deeply disgusted" and absolutely offended, I recommend you get out more because there are WAY worse things to be upset about, EVEN on your TV! Are you that mad that we are in 2 wars? A recession due to greed? We lost our liberties? My guess is no, and that you are just reactionary for the thrill of it. Let go. I implore you. Have a wonderful day.

Bill   December 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

I don't think it's a big deal, but if Obama is serious about changing the tone, he needs to can this clown. Not because of his actions, but because he clearly lacks the judgement necessary for his position. Its one thing to get drunk and act like an idiot, but anyone working in politics for more than maybe a week or two would know better than to post pictures of this stupidity on Facebook.

sick n tired   December 6th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Thats what you can expect from a buzzed 20 something at a party! We were all there at one time in our lives so just calm down people! THIS IS NOT NEWS! GET OVER IT!!!!!

Political Non-specialist   December 6th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

I suppose the Clinton camp is trying to avoid conflict before Obama even enters office. In other words, I don't think she wants to put Obama in a tough spot by demanding that this guy get fired. I'm also not sure what she could accomplish by making a big deal out of this. The photo is pretty atrocious and doesn't need embellishment because it speaks for itself, and she has already established herself as an agent against sexism.

This guy showed a huge lack of judgment by not thinking about how his actions could affect Obama. I say give him a break, everybody makes mistakes, but remind him and everyone else that they represent the Obama camp in the eyes of the public. Any future behavior like this should not be tolerated, especially because there are tons of qualified people who would love to have those jobs.

professional designer   December 6th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Hm. I moved the photo in the cnn article to my desktop and dropped it into photoshop, and then zoomed in to 300%. I would be willing to bet that somebody changed the angle of his hand, and maybe even added the Hillary cardboard. Why? because the angle of his hand on his wrist doesn't look correct, and it's color doesn't match quiet correctly with his wrist. Its close, but doesn't show the right lighting. (and I wouldn't see that easily without zooming in) Also, the lighting on the cardboard doesn't really match correctly... I would expect it to reflect light more evenly across the surface because it's flat cardboard.

And what's he going to say? Somebody faked it? People would just say that's a likely story. Maybe even someone who knows him did it as a joke – one way or another I doubt this is the original photo. It looks like his hand was holding a beer bottle, or reaching for one. I don't really care about him personally – don't know him, but this stuff is easy for someone familiar with Photoshop to do. It isn't difficult at all.. especially with all those dark colors in the image.

And certainly this would be very stupid, somewhat believable, and exceedingly disrespectful.

It would be easy for someone to damage the reputation of a young professional suddenly doing well who doesn't have the 'network' of an experienced career. Other people hate it when someone who didn't 'pay their dues' gets 'ahead', and it's not difficult to attack somebody without a well established network. Even worse, there's no way to slow him down because he's not so connected that he has anything to lose.

It's too easy – let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the super-smart kid really didn't do this. As I said early – what would anyone think if he said he didn't? Let's not be fooled by this crap, and retain focus on the work that really needs to be done. We don't really have time for this.

Nick - West Hills (L.A.), CA   December 6th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

I have no interest in a 27 year old having anything to do with running the country, even if it's just writing speeches.

Sorry kid. Go back to your fraternity house and drink up. Let the mature men and women, who have all of that juvenile behavior behind them, run the place. The country has neither the time nor the patience for this.

You had your chance.

Mr. Obama: Please, give this kid his walking papers. I voted for you and admire you. Keep the standards high. Don't let us down.

Joyce in Indiana   December 6th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

I agree that this gesture, while offensive, is small potatoes compared to what we've been living through the last eight years. However, I think the young man should quit so that his boss will not have to choose whether to fire him or defend him.

Carborundum1   December 6th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

The real issue here isn't the picture, which is just young-drunk-guy dumb. The issue is whether Obama can afford to have a person in a powerful, sensitive position in his administration who can't figure out that posting the pic on Facebook might be indiscreet. His judgment is clearly not up to the level required for a serious government job.

jerry   December 6th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

Campbell, do cardboard cutouts have breasts? Are you this desperate for a story now that the election is over?

CH West   December 6th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

Ummm, welcome to 2008 Jon Favreau. My 6th grader understands the "perils of Facebook". Is this guy supposed to be bright and upcoming? Because he looks like a moron.

sam   December 6th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

lighten up people. who cares. lol

Yakiski   December 6th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

What a moron! Not only is it insulting, it it amazing how stupid this guy can be! Does he have any idea how politics works? Why would he even put himself in this position, and allow a pic? He should get fired once for doing it, and again for posing for a pic. With an Obama staff shirt on? Barack has made it a point to rise above this trash, and frat boys like these two are doing him, and our country a disservice.

Ben Martin   December 6th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

I think this transpired at a private party . I find it hard to believe there is anyone at any age who hasn't done some very silly picture posturing in the privacy of a private residence party. I'm glad to see that Hillary was able to find the very silly fun in being a little irreverent. I liked Hillary's spirit and smarts during her campaign and glad to see she still is smart enough to distinguish between some silly picture posturing and the real sexist issue that truly matter. The person here to be chastised is the one who posted it on the internet. Not what I would call very smart and certainly not a friend. I don't know who or under what circumstances this was posted, but I do find it disturbing anything anyone does in privacy can be vulnerable to be exploited by a "friend" without their knowledge or permission. It's worst than having the SS spying on you 24/7.

Susan   December 6th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Give the guy a break. He's a 20-something who was fooling around at a private party and did something stupid for a few seconds. Who hasn't done that? Unfortunately for him, someone was there to take a photo and post it online and it was instantly picked up by the media. If this happened five years ago, before Facebook, nobody ever would have known and it would be a complete non-issue.

It bugs me that the faces of everyone else in this picture are blurred. CNN should either blur everyone's faces or nobody's. They shouldn't show some people while hiding others. That's simply not fair.

Obama first me this kid when he was working for Kerry in 2004 (at only 23 years old) and he helped Obama edit his DNC keynote address. He then became Obama's head speechwriter in 2005 when he was only 24 years old. Think about that for a second; every one of Obama's incredible speeches were the work of this kid in his twenties. Obviously, he's a genius when it comes to writing speeches. What he does at a private party has nothing to do with how he does his job and is not anyone's business.

jon   December 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

i thought Obama screened these kind of jerks out !

bye bye

lol   December 6th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

Jeez, it's not a big deal at all. As for sexism, if this had been a girl pretending to squeeze Barack Obama's butt this would not be a controversy. People say stuff like "when will men learn?" There's the sexism.

Get over it people, there are alot of people who do much worse and aren't fired or forced to resign.

DM   December 6th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Molesting a cardboard cut-out of Clinton–stupid. Allowing yourself to be photographed doing so–more stupid. Posting the picture on your Facebook page–Bushesque. Fire the idiot and move on.

Jerry   December 6th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Bye-bye!

T   December 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

As a young woman I believe that the incident was sexist and wrong. It's a situation where you can either laugh or cry and Hilary chose the former. One can only hope that the speechwriter has learned his lesson NOT to do such a thing again.

Dave   December 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

"Also notice that Obama ignored Latinos and Asians in his cabinet while both groups voted heavily for Obama. Isn't it interesting that the GOP was the first to appoint a Latino to the top for cabinet posts and an Asian to Sec. of Transportation."

I guess your right each "group" should be directly represented in every position to the exact degree they supported a candidate
please spare me your "false flag" republican "politically correct" manipulative crocodile tears. I'm sure your real worried about Asians and Latinos. Bush's appointments were mostly terrible whatever thier ethnic background. Obama seems to be doing a reasonable good job with his appointments with the possible exception of Clinton.
(btw Richardson is Latino) Your candidate(s) lost live with it. Obama isnt even in office yet and you people wont stop with the carterwauling waah waaah waah baby wants a bottle.

To the rest of you lighten up this is a 27 year old at a party. he's a speechwriter he does not make policy. and to mw what exactly does "Infinity if forever" mean? are you sure you not trying to say eternity? and if so is this a point?
Einstein you're not.

Rose   December 6th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Martin,

Obama has not ignored Latinos. Are you one of those republicans causing trouble? Hillary will be a better SoS than Richardson for now... Richardson has a very bright futur ahead of him in the Obama administration and beyond. Hillary is 61, she deserves the SoS job!

opedanderson   December 6th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Yet another example of the rampant sexism found in the left wing of our society. Again, we all expect this sort of thing from the right wing but this election season has shown something very ugly to be found among people that should know better.

It's time for the Democratic Party to do some soul-searching and self evaluation re. sexism much like it did back in thye 60's with racism. Howard Dean, outgoing Chariman of the DNC has said as much......

MC- Atlanta,GA   December 6th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

faye   December 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

I do feel sorry for him in some ways that the photo came out. You know, we have all been to parties where we do inappropriate things, its really sad when that can jeopardize our reputation and jobs (and humiliation to the whole world). I am 29 and I can see myself and friends at a party like that, but the problem is when you are seeking high visibility, political positions, then you really have to be more careful. His friend really must feel awful about posting it on facebook.
P.S. thats why we make our facebook accounts private, so only friends in our network can get a hold of anything we post on there

Reality   December 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

This is the guy that wrote Obama's speeches that so enthralled people that voted for him. Reality hurts doesn't it?

Disgusting   December 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

This is very disgusting but I am not suprised. First, he is 27 years old, a young guy, and not too far from his college years. These young people today are very different than us older ones and they find doing things like this as just having a little fun.

However, Obama can not be accountable for every action that someone does. Everytime someone does something, people want to pin it on Obama's judgment. This does not reflect Obama. Obviously Obama has great respect for Hillary or he wouldn't have chose her for Secretary of State.

Does not Care   December 6th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Sure its immature, but does really change his ability to write speeches, No.

Bad judgement,. By someone who wrote speeches about judgement and is going to be put in charge of White House speechwriting–? He's not ready for prime time. Suppose that had been a card-board cut out of some Middle Eastern ruler's wife?

The kid isn't up to a Washington job in anyone's camp. But then, neither is Obama.

The response from the Hillary camp was perfect: funny, sarcastic, calling him an idiot, and invoking reality....

mark   December 6th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Thats pretty funny. I'm glad the Clinton cabinet is taking it as the joke it obviously is. I'll bet this guy is a great speachwriter.

And they said there wasn't abundant sexism among Obama's people. Obama needs to stand a firm public stand against this kind of behavior, fire those who were involved, and make eliminating sexism in America a national policy goal. He was right there making a speech and a lot of noise about racism when it flew in his face, but he ignores this.

I'm very pleased to see that Hillary has a sense of humor and is laughing this off. I think that's the correct response and makes me respect her more.

Come on. This guy is obviously at some casual party at somebody's house among friends. It's not like this was a White House function. I'm positive that everybody reading this and everybody else in Washington has done things they later wish they hadn't done when they were drinking with friends. This is not a reason to get upset, and kudos to Hillary for recognizing that.

@Martin: Obama ignored latinos? Really? I think you need to look at his list of nominations again before you make that statement. Plus he's only nominated 6 of the 15 cabinet positions... can you say "knee-jerk reaction"?

Rose   December 6th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

This guy will be just fine. Which older woman is not at least amused by the though of young man 33 years her junior... Let hope that Hillary will be better than Bill...

G   December 6th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

For crying out loud it was harmless fun I can't count the number of stupid pictures on facebook we have actual problems and this is what gets peoples blood boiling unbelieveable. Obama has been nothing but respectful to women or else he would not have given Hillary a position a top position in his cabinet all you haters just go away. Second he has appointed Richarson a latino to his cabinet for those saying he has not done enough. Third why should he appiont people just for the color of their skin I thought that is what the GOP was complaining about the whole time that Obama was treated easly because he is black. Finally, am hispanic and appreciate the fact that he is appionting people who are qualify for the position and not just giving us a hand out. People forget their history and the problem with the people Clinton appionted when he was president.

Megan   December 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Geeze, he was just partying, and it was a joke. Get over it. There are worse problems in the world.

Marc in Virginia   December 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

No surprise here, folks. Anyone who even casually followed the contest for the Democratic nomination shouldn't be surprised by this. Obama is right in that no matter who he appoints, he sets the tone. Witness the 27 year old lackey who thinks it's okay to be sexist and demeaning toward women. He takes his cue from Barack "Sweetie" Obama.

Eric   December 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Im 35 and it seems over the last two years America has become extremely faciast. This is no big deal lighten up people.

jdude   December 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

LOL that's awesome

Obama's judgement is in question   December 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

if this is the kind of people he decides to keep around.

michelle   December 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Lighten up folks...
it is a cardboard cut out...he is 27....it was joke.
Have you never larked around at a party??? If not you should try it.
No doubt...Hillary being the bright, secure woman that she is, will laugh it off and no doubt have a joke with him about it too.

He is an excellent speech writer...so you would have him sacked over a moment of stupidity that hurt no one except himself?

Again...lighten up!!! It's Christmas.

ab   December 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

wow! director of speech writing. There are many ppl out there with no jobs and good talent and aren't quite as vulgar as this guy!

AdamW   December 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Does anyone here know anatomy? His hand is not on her "chest" it is holding her arm.

And really? Doesn't anyone in this country have a sense of humor?

I would like to know who was sexist to Hillary? Seems she got it easy compared to all of the Obama bashing that occurred. Just because people didn't like her doesn't make them sexist. Get a grip.

As far as being disappointed in Hillary. You mean you weren't disappointed after she stayed with her husband after he cheated on her numerous times? I guess it is ok that she stayed with him to further her political career. If it was anyone else people would be screaming for her to get a divorce. The guy is scum for cheating on his wife but noone says anything about that. She obviously saw the benefits of staying with him and that is as shameful as can be.

This kid, having fun and being a goofball? Not really offensive or an example of his character. Maybe he is a jerk, I don't know but regardless it is hardly a real issue.

Eric   December 6th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Looks like he was at a party having a good time. Big deal.

Jane   December 6th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Calm down people. It's not a big deal.

Dorothy in NC   December 6th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

This thoroughly disgusted with this "news". Hillary has been totally disrespected. She is a very hard working United States Senator who is trying to do good work to benefit all of us. I think she deserves an apology.
Oh by the way Jon, grow up.

joanjuneau   December 6th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

You're in trouble now, Dude.

snugglebunny   December 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I'm glad I'm not in politics. I can only imagine the dirt that would be brought up about me.

Doreen   December 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Grow up please.

Brenda C   December 6th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Speaks volumes about obama and his whole gang. A bunch of thugs who make excuses when caught. They probably smoked more than cigarettes on the campaign trail.

Kyle   December 6th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Who cares??? Who doesn't have bad facebook photos of them? He's obviously having a good time, give him a break!!

Reality   December 6th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

If he was older, it still would have happened. It just wouldn't have been broadcast on Facebook.

And the Truth is...   December 6th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

Arrogance compiled with stupidity. Obama sure knows how to choose the people that surround him.

More than an "I'm sorry" is needed.

catarina   December 6th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

This guy needs to be banished...unless the office of the new SoS is hiring a toilet cleaner..

AJ   December 6th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

This is outright wrong behavior. People shall be respectful in their act. It does not matter whether in private parties or public places.

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

Sexism from the Obama camp? Go figure. Clinton can't win. If she complains about it, the media floggs her for playing "the gender card" and not being "tough enough" for politics, and if she doesn't say anything than the media attacks her for failing to stand up to sexism.

Maybe the media should start judging themselves as harshly as they judge everyone else.

Adrienne   December 6th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Who cares?

alreadytiredofit   December 6th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

He may be a good speechwriter but I don't think Obama will have any choice but to let him go. This is offensive and disrespectful to women, as well as juvenile. When will men ever learn - or grow up? It 's such an unfortunate thing how poorly men are socialized in the US.

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

So what!!!

john   December 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

The response by Philippe Reines was perfect! I think Jon has learned his lesson on mixing cardboard cut-outs and beer.

Robert S   December 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

You know what - after 8 years of torture, shipping all of our jobs overseas, lies and more lies from the White House, the 2nd Great Depression and incompetence at every level of the government - who cares?

This administration isn't going to get caught up in every little thing - especially innocent things like this. People have fun, and this was having fun.

Why not report on how many companies are taking the bailout money and paying multi-million dollar bonuses to their executives while they ship more jobs overseas?

Reality   December 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

He's just a hard working young guy having some normal guy fun, joking around over some beers !!!

Chad   December 6th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Another example of these young smug Obama punks that think it is acceptable to treat someone as distinguished as Senator Clinton with utter disrespect. He should be fired, career over!!

NH Mom   December 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

This is absolutely disrespectful to women, and, of course, Sen Clinton specifically. It should not be acceptable to try to minimize the qualifications and substance of a woman by trying to demean her and objectify her. It is shameful behavior and the man who engaged in this sexist act should not be part of the white house team. If the people who work for the new president can't respect a woman as capable and accomplished as Sen. Clinton, then they certainly should not be in the White House where their work affects every woman in the nation.

Sexism is rampant in our country and we need to take a stand and say no to it.

Chip   December 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

I am not an Obama supporter but at least the man is hiring "Normal People" that have fun. This man has harmed no one. I hope Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton have enough character to see this for what it is; some friends at a party having fun.
I wish you luck and hope you work hard for our country Jon.

Best Wishes:

Chip

A Really Conservative Realist   December 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Hee Hee. We will know he's lying if he claims that he was dressed up as Bill Clinton at a Halloween party. Bill would not have chosen that piece of cardboard.

Franky   December 6th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

And by the way, with each state getting into debt, how the hell is it gonna work?? That' just unacceptable but what are we gonna do, huh? Where the hell are they gonna get the money?? I just can't realize we became so greedy...

Ian, Minneapolis MN   December 6th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Man, I know for a fact, if I'm ever running for any sort of public office....facebook will totally be my downfall.

B. Medai   December 6th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

You're an idiot. I hope you lose your post/position. Grow up.

martin   December 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

A Real Feminist   December 6th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

Big deal. I'm so glad Clinton can see this as just good-natured fun. Aren't we allowed to enjoy a little ribald humor anymore? Campbell Brown needs to chillax on this one. No harm, no foul. Sexism exists and we shouldn't get distracted by something as silly as this.

zuma1971   December 6th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

I am deeply disgusted and find this gesture deeply offensive and disrespectful! However, I am shocked and disappointed at Hillary's response to the incident. I agree with Campbell that this was not acceptable behavior... I would be equally disgusted had this been Sarah Palin.

Bo   December 6th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Great to see that the President elect is surrounding himself with such high-quality and mature people. No wonder the market is scared to death!

Glad to see the MSM once again following the lead of the smear artist/right-wing water carrier, Matt Drudge.

Wow, speechwriter for Obama AND director of "Iron Man?" 2008 was a good year for him.

Jane   December 6th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

This is what happens when you hire a 27-year-old to be your speechwriter. By the way, this is NOT the actor/director Jon Favreau (who directed "Iron Man" and "Elf"). Same exact name!

Briana the college student   December 6th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

wow i think more than an apology is needed

lockrem   December 6th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

you can tell mrs. Clinton is a poster and shouldn't have been told on tv. I can believe reporters say anything without seeing if it is a fact or not They really underestimate the puplics entelligents.

mw   December 6th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Stupidity at a high level. Shame on this jerk. What has happened to maturity and respect? How do you erase this picture that will be around forever. Infinity is forever.

not amused in Bedford, TX   December 6th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

I noticed this guy is only 27. If he had been 37 or 47 he may have had the judgment not to display such juvenile behavior. It's a little disconcerting to know that more and more super-smart kids who don't have good judgment are having such influence on business and government. Grow up.

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

you can tell mrs. Brad in IL   December 6th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

Big Al   December 6th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Who cares, when you take alcohol a cardboard cut-out of any woman, a camera and a couple of guys. I can almost guarentee this will be the type of picture you'll see!

JIM   December 6th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

I'm sorry, but this stupidity @ his best. Everyone knows Facebook is a public site & to be on Obama's staff and where a staff T-shirt with a life size cut-out of Secretary of State nominee, Sen. Clinton was dumb. It is high school stuff and I'm glad he apologized.

Independent   December 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Lighten up guys. Clinton sure sees the funny side.

The thing is, these politicians have to fight tough. After the election, they don't hold so many grudges because they know that the tough tactics are part of the political process, but their supporters do. So they can joke around, but when their supporters see the jokes they get angry.

Katie   December 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Harmless. Actually quite funny. Whoever put up the picture of him is the idiot, and should have known it would get sent all over the internet like this.

Ann   December 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

What a moron thing to do...and even more moronic to put it on facebook. To find out that the person responsible for Obama's wonderfully amazing speeches is really just a sophomoric moron is disappointing.

willowood   December 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

poor judgement and stupidity...he's not equipped to be part of this administration..he needs to go...and right away. no excuses.

Alex Gilliam   December 6th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Simply STUPID!!!

Bud   December 6th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Stupidity knows all political parties too well and Jon Favreau is very young. Maybe he'll survive this and maybe he won't. The political graveyards are full of indespensible men.

Kevin   December 6th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

And NOW we can see why the Obama team has been so ruthless and meticulous in combing through the skeletons in each of its applicants' closets. Maybe Favreau is a great speechwriter, but this suggests a lapse in judgment that simply can not be tolerated given the intense scrutiny given to every presidential administration by both the public and political opponents.

fred   December 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

oh gosh.....he's gonna be in the white house?

This is not news   December 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Can you spell s-e-x-i-s-m?

fmr. Hillary Supporter now for McCain   December 6th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Looks like the President-elect already has forgotten to keep someone on a leash Jon Favreau better learn to respect the new Secretary of State because she is the boss and canfired him for any reason whatsoever.

BTW, to Rush Limbaugh and all of you other Clinton bashers which includes you 2, Jack Cafferty who claim that Hillary won't be able to run in 2012 because she is now Secretary of State, Here's a little history lesson

Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, James Madison, James Buchanan and Martin Van Buren. What do these 5 Secretary of States have in common?

THEY EACH WENT ON TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. 2 OF THEM IN JUST 4 YEARS AFTER BEING SECRETARY OF STATE

Sorry to ruin a temporary celebration of what you thought was the permanent end to Hillary's quest for the Presidency

why don't of you mosquitos crawl back down from the hole you crawled up from. hmm?

Sounds like Hillary wants some action.   December 6th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

Is this conduct becoming a Sec. of State???

Are we supposed to be shocked, or surprised?
I would expect no less from Obama's camp. Obama was the one who advised Clinton supporters to "get over it" after he clinched the nomination.
Ladies, our 'rights' begin and end with abortion.
As for the rest, well, take Obama's advice and get over it.
Yes, change is here.

Sam   December 6th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Shame of Favreau; what is shown is obsene and offensive; Clinton's response isn't any better.

I know my next comment doesn't belong in this ticker, but I hope CNN publishes it anyway (since the comments for that ticker is closed). Regarding Sarah Palin's wardrobe, Repubs seem to forget the real issue: The issue is not how much was spent; instead, if there are receipts to prove her wardrobe came from Neiman's and I heard with my own ears Sarah saying she never "shopped" at Neiman's, seems to indicate someone is lying (either RNC or Sarah) and I'd like to get to the bottom of it!!!!!

Nothing new, we all new the Obama camp was being sexist. Only the media turned a blind eye. Or not Honey??? Remember? I don't blame Obama for that line anymore now I know he probably got it from his speech writer. I just hope Obama's speeches will be as good as before now Jon Favreau will be gone.

I have never understood that particular argument on behalf of Michelle and all Samantha. All the leaked pictures we get came from the Obama campaing, not from the Clinton campaing.........makes me wonder who was really smearing whom??

Who the heck cares about this? Honestly. I'm so tired of the media covering these events where people are supposed to say, "I'm sorry" all the time. It loses its merit completely in Politics. It is truly NO different than when a child apologizes for hitting his/her brother or sister and the parent says, "Now, say you're sorry."

I can't stand this. He was at a party, blowing off steam and having a good time. He hurt no one and I would much rather see this than all of the priests molesting little boys or Politicians embezzling money...really, is this what we care about? Do you think the people in the Mumbai attacks care about this? WHO CARES?

selene   December 6th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Why are you protecting his face? Is he special? Why do you defame everybody else but not golden boy? People know who this immature juvenile is, so start showing his face CNN!

NICK, HOUSTON   December 6th, 2008 11:54 am ET

who cares

Michael   December 6th, 2008 11:53 am ET

I am a a hardcore Conservative and normally would not feel much sympathy for a fallen Liberal. I do believe that Mr. Faverau, having acheived such a prominent position in President Obama's administration would be well advised to cultavate some common sence and discreation. I do, however, also believe that If Senator Clinton is not overally concerned, then why should the rest of us be. Yes it is sexist, irresponsable, and stupid, but If the man can right speeches that inspire our citizens, then let him do his job. Maybe the President elect should take all Mr. Faverau's electronic devises away. My real point is that this country is facing many difficult issues, so lets focus on the real issues and move beyond the tabloid garbage so many Americans focus on. I support my President and pray that he has a successful 4 years. I am not open minded enough to hope he has 8 good years!

Deb   December 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Time to grow up Jon. 'I'm Sorry Hillary' doesn't cut it....

Anderson   December 6th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Pathetic.

john   December 6th, 2008 11:50 am ET

C'mon, have we lost all of our sense of humor in exchange for rigid political correctedness???

That's just a 27 year old having a little fun. laugh a little people!

Godluvr   December 6th, 2008 11:49 am ET

It's funny, let it roll off like water from a duck's back, and move on!

He's hot though! LOL!!

Nevada Independant   December 6th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Get him out.
If you aren't mature enough to conduct yourself like a professional then you obviously aren't suited for this administration.
27 years old?
Grow up, kid.

Myron   December 6th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Correction: This chucklehead WAS the future White House director of speech writing.

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 11:46 am ET

This is the kind of crowd Obama chooses to work with eh? Super. Professionalism at it's best.

ck   December 6th, 2008 11:46 am ET

good to know this is the man behind the "messiah"

What a joke!! LOL

Mobius   December 6th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Ho hum big deal. When did the Dem's become the uptight party?

leo   December 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Ok well in america anything is seen as sexist. if it was a femal clinton aide posing in a weird position with an obama poster joking that she was holdin his balls i dont think any media would have called it sexist huh? iam certainly for equal rights for women and against any kind of sexism but today u cant do any joke about a woman and it is not sexism. Thats equality u can have jokes on men and u can have jokes on women. again think about it lets say a femal playin with a poster of bill clinton mimicking for example monica legwinsky giving him 'we know what' would that be sexism ?????

prosanto   December 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

It is downright disgraceful for Obama not to reprimand his men/boys for public indecency. I am shocked by Hillery's remarks. Both these leaders send the message that indecency is acceptable.

Joe   December 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

For goodness sake, it was a party which is something most Americans have participated in at some time. No harm. No foul. I imagine the gross percentage of Americans have done things much more harmful than goofing around with friends and snapping photos such as this. However, it is probably much harder for most Americans to look into the mirror than at another's spoofs.

Jaye   December 6th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Why make such a big deal out of this....it's nothing.
Campbell Brown will probably spend all week saying how sexist it is. LOL BTW – does Campbell Brown know anything other than sexist stuff to report? Her show is a waste of time.

Sharon - Irondale, Alabama   December 6th, 2008 11:42 am ET

You would think EVERYBODY would know better than to take pictures doing something one would regret in the age of you tube, myspace, facebook, etc. He obviously did not value his job or he thought he was among trusted friends! Remember people, the camera cannot be trusted.

Former republican army wife   December 6th, 2008 11:41 am ET

If Clinton doesn't care, then why should we care? I saw Campbell Browns comments on this at the beginning of her show. I like Campbells show, however, she needs to realize thast not every single comment, statement, and picture is sexist. Come on Campbell, the open mic comment about the governor having no life, was that really sexist? I say the same thing about my boss, he has no life, so he is always at work, he's a guy, is that sexist too? This pic looks like a cpl of frat boys haing fun. Rather than call it sexist, I would call in immature.

republicans hate america   December 6th, 2008 11:41 am ET

hilarious. This is far better then the aides outing CIA agents in the Bush administration.

Nee   December 6th, 2008 11:38 am ET

The entire Obama campaign staff always resembled an Animal House-like fraternity, complete with Robert Gibbs in the John Belushi role. But it's OK – sexism is perfectly acceptable as long as the perpetrators identify as "Democrats."

Rumsfeld   December 6th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Oh come on people! When are we going to learn the perils of such behavior?! Would love to be in the room, after inauguration, just to see the awkwardness between Mr. Favreau, Secretary of State Clinton and Pres. Obama.... Let's hope this lesson sticks.
Seems to me that Sen. Clinton has endured a great deal of sexist treatment over the years. It needs to end now.

28 year old not suprised   December 6th, 2008 11:36 am ET

Put the facebook pages on lock down, you should not allow yourself to be tagged like that. He is just one person in my generation who will be ousted from a job because of facebook!

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Say Gooodbye Jon.

Michael Scott   December 6th, 2008 11:35 am ET

So Jon Favreau is the kind of people Obama is going to populate his White House (the PEOPLE"S House) with, eh? Disgusting!

Anonymous   December 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Give him a break – he's 27. I suspect he he has learned a valuable lession.

Steve, Iowa City, IA   December 6th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Disgusting.

Flash Gorden /-\   December 6th, 2008 11:31 am ET

People can read in to ANYTHING! Look @ Huckabees "cross" in one of his ads this past year! I see a window in the back of THIS photo. Could they ALL be amish!? Like there would be anything wrong with that. Just an example of what people "see" and make things out to be without knowing the facts. Huh... I think it was all in fun. Maybe Hillary was the "life" of the party! Boy, [some] "news" sells does it "not"...If someone was posing with the intention of having their hand on that part of the female anatomy, I think it would be a slight bit lower. He was only holding "her" up! Give me a break. I SEE...

Paul   December 6th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Who cares? That's nicer treatment than Hillary deserves.

Pat   December 6th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Disgusting! Am I surprised? NO! - Just another example of the Obama gaggle of geese! Also disappointed in Hillary's lack of judgment in "condoning" it in such a lame-brained manner.

FleetFootNC   December 6th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Go ahead Barack and Hillary, accept the idot's apology. Then, quickly sack him. He has no business being a part of new president's administration. Even if he is a talented speech writer. He can not be part of the serious image Obama is trying hard to promulgate.

Bob   December 6th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Nice behavior. Great example for all the young people out there. Nice job, really.

sia   December 6th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Given the American public's notoriously fleeting attention span and penchant for paying little heed to what is going on in the government is changing big time. The internet is helping. so be careful.
This is funny, but will be ignored. You are our government and we will be watching. Realize the seriousness of your position.

Patrick   December 6th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Obama needs to fire him immediately....set the tone early that this will be a competent administration or risk losing public support quickly.

Remi - American Tax Payer   December 6th, 2008 11:20 am ET

HE needs to be fired.

Obama/Biden '08-'12

CCN   December 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

I think this photo looks like a person holding up the poster, not necessarily cupping any particular part of anatomy. I am all in favor of respect for women, but more is being read into this than should be. The press likes to make something out of nothing when it can. Cheers to the response from the Clinton group.

Laurie   December 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

This is just the beginning....

Brett   December 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Fire him - establish a zero tolerance policy. He's now a liability for President elect Obama and anyone who works with him in the Obama White House.

steve   December 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

As an ardent Obama supporter, I find this act deplorable. The guy should be fired regardless of his talent as a speechwriter.

Armando   December 6th, 2008 11:17 am ET

hahaha this is pretty funny.

S Callahan   December 6th, 2008 11:17 am ET

These guys were just having fun. No harm was intended. Even Hilary knows that.

wait what?   December 6th, 2008 11:15 am ET

So this guy wrote his speeches? Maybe he should write his own instead of letting this creep do it!

David   December 6th, 2008 11:15 am ET

if this is as bad as the scandals get in this administration, then i'm looking forward to the next four years.

Steve NY   December 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Umm..... Director of WH Speech Writing? OK..... wondered where all those great speeches came from.... funny, Obama never mentioned grabbing somebody's boobies. LOL.

Hillary forever   December 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

I would dance with Obama's cardboard cut-out anytime :-)
were can I get one ? I mean Obama's ofcourse.

Steve, FL   December 6th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Why, someone in their 20s got a little drunk and did some goofy things at a party? Well I never would've guessed THAT!

Seriously, who cares?

Jeff Brown   December 6th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Oh those youthful hijinx!

Molly   December 6th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Wow...good to see that even someone from my generation has little respect for women and would do something stupid like that.

Francie   December 6th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Bye, Jon!

MLH   December 6th, 2008 11:10 am ET

I'm a big Obama fan, but this is not the image you want out there of your speechwriter – the guy who puts words in your mouth. This wasn't just disrespectful to Senator Clinton and women. This was stupid and made his boss look bad. There are other wordsmiths out there, and this one should be looking for a new job.

Bill   December 6th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Ooops!

Good for Hillary's side. Proves that some people really can move beyond "gotcha" politics, and with humor too.

Trish Baucum   December 6th, 2008 11:08 am ET

For years I've been telling the kids that they will regret all the dumb things they post on these sites. When will this generation learn that not everyone cares about their parties and activities and some who do only want to harm them.
Let's get back to a little privacy in this country!!!!

Hillary forever   December 6th, 2008 11:06 am ET

And ? why it's big deal ?

pat C.   December 6th, 2008 11:06 am ET

i am glad to see there is still humor in politics. we take everything to serious these days. let these kids have fun and bring life into an otherwise glummy situation we face as a nation.

Kevin   December 6th, 2008 11:04 am ET

So he likes 'em with experience...nothing wrong with that...

Dan   December 6th, 2008 11:04 am ET

Jut more of that change we can believe in...

catherine   December 6th, 2008 11:03 am ET

A typical Obama male supporter? I wonder.

Transparency   December 6th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Ultimately what I'm hoping a policy of transparency will do is deflate these perceived "scandals." Favreau is one of many millions of us who have mixed personal and professional online, and most of us have exhibited questionable judgment, or at least indulged our senses of humor. And he is at the age where, as a college student, Facebook and MySpace were nascent.

Perhaps due to the sheer volume of "transgressions" alone, we can get to a point where the media can stop making mountains out of molehills, there will just be too much to cover otherwise - but obviously, we aren't there yet.

Weareallfamily   December 6th, 2008 11:01 am ET

to whomever wrote this article and the one about ms powers. GET A LIFE!

Eric   December 6th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Leave the guy alone. He's not a public figure and he's still a young guy - other 20somethings make judgement mishaps far worse than that.

He's obviously a very talented speechwriter and I hope Obama's team doesnt overreact to this.

Michael Lee   December 6th, 2008 10:59 am ET

President-elect Obama should pull the plug on Mr. Favreau. There is no room for this type of behavior.............period. Anybody sitting at the table with the serious political adults should know this. If they don't, let this first rolling head be proof that it will not be tolerated. Well Mr. Obama? You put a high price on transparency and integrity. Here is your chance to prove it. P. S. – I voted Obama.

Jon   December 6th, 2008 10:59 am ET

Hillary's comments seem to eerily reflect the past actions of her husband. I am sure she is very excited about his interest in the state department.

Blues   December 6th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Crazy speechwriter.

Brad - California   December 6th, 2008 10:57 am ET

"Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," – GREAT RESPONSE FROM HILLARY'S AIDE!

Unreal   December 6th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Sad dude.. Sad .... I understand it was a private party, but you should know better. You should know this would eventually come back and baite you in the ... Well bite you...

You are so close to writing your own ticket into history and you are being this reckless with such a promising future?

Sad real sad.. That was a Plaxico move.....

daisyInAtlanta   December 6th, 2008 10:54 am ET

serve him right

Obama4me   December 6th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Certainly, he loses points on discretion but it is a lesson learned...not something so awful to lose his job over.

proudliberal   December 6th, 2008 10:52 am ET

she shouldn't be drinking beer with them boys.

Pete   December 6th, 2008 10:51 am ET

What an idiot.

Shannon   December 6th, 2008 10:50 am ET

the Obama campaign showed it's disdain for women throughout the primary. What a shock (not) that the person who wrote all those words of hope and change, is a phony little drunken frat boy. This is hope and change folks, I'm not suprised. The words of this campaign have never matched the actions of the people who work for and support it.

TexasAnnie *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*   December 6th, 2008 10:49 am ET

Not exactly the best show of judgement on Favreau's part. Hopefully he learned something from this.
Both the guys in the photo owe Clinton a HUGE apology several times over.

Deborah   December 6th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I think Hillary is doing women a disservice (and I am a BIG Hillary fan) to women by trying to join the "good old boys club" now that she is positioned to be a part of the new administration. She needs to stay true to her beliefs and her integrity. She is a role model for women and I, for one, am offended by the photo. Apparently Favreau knew it was offensive judging by how quickly he removed it and by offering an apology. Hillary should have expressed her disappointment at the sexist and childish nature of the "prank" before graciously accepting his apology.

Alyssa   December 6th, 2008 10:44 am ET

That is absolutely hilarious. I would be mortified, but everyone has to have a sense of humor!

Pixie   December 6th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Wow who cares? Who hasn't done something similar before. Just because you want to be a part of the political process doesn't mean you have to be devoid of any kind of personality.

Jerry   December 6th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Oh my gosh , give him some BHO teflon spray right away. PS Sarah says hello

Scott Tucson   December 6th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Obama's people are not in office yet and they're already making fools of themselves. Was this Jon the writer who dreamed up Obama's campaign slogan of 'CHANGE"?

rosa   December 6th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Miss Campbell, the other guy has a beer in his hand. Did you fail to notice this?

"People do stupid things when alcohol is involved!!!!!" You really should cover the story completely and without such bias...

Also, Jon needs to find new friends. It was idiotic to take this picture, I agree but I am giving Mr Jon the benefit of a doubt here. He is young and was probably drinking as well. Now for his so-called moronic friend to post this that is another thing, entirely..
Anyhow, I do believe there is a big diffeence between this and pundits pointing out she revealed cleavage during one of her public appearances.

Gaurang (India)   December 6th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Hahahhaha, this is hilarious. Favraeu should have known better. Being the man behind Obama's speeches, I can't imagine he'd do this on camera.

Mike in Jacksonville   December 6th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Isn't his hand a bit high for it to be her boobs? And how is this anywhere near as offensive as Chambliss' Thanksgiving add where he blatantly fondles a little girls chest?

Find a real story.

Jay   December 6th, 2008 10:34 am ET

I think this guys should be left alone. Yes, it was stupid posting the picture on the face book, but i think he should be given a break....dude was trying to have fun for God's sake, let him be........

Most action Hillary has had in years   December 6th, 2008 10:29 am ET

Are they sure it was a cardboard cut-out and not the real thing!!????
