Obama speechwriter Favreau learns the perils of Facebook

(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.

Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.

The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.

Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.

The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.

Get over it. Seriously. He was at a party having fun. Most of you who are judging him so harshly have surely done worse and most likely on multiple occasions. You should be lucky that you aren't being photographed and stuck in the limelight because of it.

Oh, get off your high horses some of you prudes on here....it's all done in good fun....would it have been more appropriate if he had a gun in his hand as that seems to be alright.
Having a gun in a picture or a movie is more acceptable here than showing a little bare skin or something like this which is all in good fun.
I know which I'd sooner see, a good humour joke or a gun being branded about.... give me the joke anytime!!! Please get get off this holier than thou kick!!

As a woman, I've made fun of men's different parts of the body verbally when with other women. I guess in today's age that would be sexist. For crying out loud people, he's 27, still immature and was clowning around with his friends. I think our country would be better off without all these politically correct people and a few more laughs never hurt.

How many of you bloggers that are so unnerved by this have done the same type of thing whether by joke, action, etc. I bet very few. As as woman, I do not consider this sexist.

This is very disrespectful and unacceptable. A 27 yrs, or even 17 yrs should not do such a act

    No big Deal...so what!

Our society is becoming so uptight and too politically correct. People need to learn how to loosen up and stop trying to look for ways to be offended by anyone.

Americans need to develop a thicker skin just like you were taught on the playground....I'm rubber and you are glue....

What if this had been a woman on the White House staff grabbing a cardboard cut of Obama?

Honestly, if I hear this as some sort of "oh look at the punks Obama gets" - are you kidding me? He's young, he's stupid, this happens. What, you didn't think anyone in the McCain camp ever cracked sexual jokes? Please, the McCain headquarters near me were filled with quite a few young gentlemen with the same humor. Actually, I shouldn't even say quite a few, because that's an understatement.

This is exactly what American politics has come to - instead of the public wanting to know how we're going to get out of money/security/housing/health/laundry list of troubles, oh – let's just focus on the entertainment side of news. Might as well make news on E!

Oh calm down. Think of it this way.... if Hillary had actually been at that party, do you think they'd do the exact same thing??? It's a frickin cardboard cut-out, people!!!!! I would bet that everyone on here has at some point been caught doing something inappropriate and childish growing up. It's just that now with sites like Facebook and Myspace, pictures can quickly get circulated worldwide. What's sad is that if he wasn't an Obama aide (or an aide to any politician for that matter), this wouldn't have been reported. Guess it's a really slow day in the CNN newsroom.

This is a young guy getting drunk and having fun... big deal. All you people who are outraged.. please tell me you've done worse in your young life.. so I don't feel completely sorry for you.

Now putting the picture up on facebook when you're already in politics.. well, that's just stupid lol

This is how drunks act. Nothing new... majority of drunks are offensive..in addition to (Geoffrey Sperl @ Martin: who flip'n cares what race people are as long as he picks the right ones for the job. Wanting someone of a specific skin color is a bit racist I think Martin grow up and get over yourself)

Obama supporters have been disgusting, sexist, and rude to Hillary during the campaign. This isn't a surprise. Obama supporters on the left are worse than some of McCain supporters on the right.

Also notice that Obama ignored Latinos and Asians in his cabinet while both groups voted heavily for Obama. Isn't it interesting that the GOP was the first to appoint a Latino to the top for cabinet posts and an Asian to Sec. of Transportation.

Its funny. Watch Democrats deny the first Vietnamese American a seat in the House and instead, give it to a black man who is indicted for taking bribes and hiding it in his freezer.

He has got to resign. His days serving for Obama and any hopes being part of Obama's presidency should end immediately. This is not just an afront to Clinton but to my mother and his own mother who should be more embarrased than any woman – unless both mother and son are mentally coockoos!

What is most hysterical is the future-State Dept response. It's refreshing that govt officials show their human side.

That being said, he's gotta go. Standards of respect and professionalism have to be established early on. He should respectfully resign. He'll have a fine career elsewhere given his accomplishments in the campaign.

Naw 27 is not a kid. This was every bit disrespectful of women in general, and Hillary Clinton in particular. This guy needs to stand in the unemployment line – where humility and maturity will drop on him in meteorite fashion. I don't care how well he writes, or how bright he is, this mentality has no place in framing any part of the new administration. Change means bringing respect back to the executive branch. Pink skip this guy ASAP.

The future White House Director of Speech Writing didn't understand the party is over; but he does now. Hopefully he will also understand brilliance without maturity won't serve the president or him very well.

Clearly he got drunk, and partied too much. And I hate how people automatically think that because he is holding Hilary in the "chest" are clearly he was guilty of something else ~ it looks more like they are giving the cardboard cutout the opportunity for beer.

It is probably very very bad form for a white house official to get this wasted though. I don't think its sexist, at all. If this is sexist, then Desperate Housewives is sexist against males, seriously.

So much for the writer of Obama's soaring kool-aid craving oration via teleprompter. Other than that, this kid is apparently a sophomoric jerk with very little judgment. He needs to lose his job. If this had been Don Imus, there would've been a hell of an uproar.

@ Martin- Your old system of kickbacks and paybacks for votes and contributions is what Obama's change is all about. You think Obama needs to bring Latinos and Asians to the cabinet just because they voted for him? Is this the plan that Latinos and Asians have for improving their lot? How about doing it Obama's way and taking the initiative yourself. Obama is picking his cabinet based on skills, education, and experience. Go get some of that Martin and you, too, can look for your just rewards.
