Obama speechwriter Favreau learns the perils of Facebook

(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.

Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.

The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.

Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.

The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.

It was stupid. It was sexist...I don't know that he should lose his job. I don't think it's an excuse to say he was young and drunk...I think it's true and I don't when we started expecting people to be perfect. Some behaviors merit serious consequences, like propositioning under-aged interns, but this...he did what he needed to... apologize. If HC can let it go, then so should the nation :)

I'm glad she's in the cabinet. So far so good Obama/Biden, yes!

its a shame that jon couldn't give up his pastime for a national call to duty like the president elect did by giving up smoking...

  8. No Hillary = No Obama

And now you know what your President-elect is all about – winning and himself. This is why no woman should consider running for VP or President because male misogynists continue to rule the day. These are the people Obama is allowing to put words in his mouth. We knew Obama only patrionized women to get their vote, he has no feminist philosophy – as a matter of fact he has a sterotypical Christmas Card family portrait. The wife is stay-at-home, while he goes out and becomes President. Hillary Clinton needs to take these types of women-hating actions and speak to them. I think she has been too silent on the sexist subjugation that frankly cost her the Presidency.

i'm sure hillary is laughing about this so why can't we all just do the same.

joke from the michigan daily: " 12:1 (the odds) As secretary of state, Hillary will be one secretary Bill won't try to bang."

Wow. Sad. Funny. Still sad. Bad? No. Weird? Yes. Why is the other one holding her head like that? They look like two future rapists waiting to happen. Where does a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton come from anyway? How does Bill feel about all this? Is he angy? Is he secretly demanding that cardboard cutouts of himself be placed at these swank, political-elite, all night beer binges? And, How much is that going to cost us?

as I read through these posts, I wonder why, if you all are so perfect, why aren't you running for a political office? What do you have to give to this country?

Here we go again! It just doesn't stop does it? The disrespect for Hillary and women in general from the Obama camp are apalling. Most comments are, so what, he's young and drunk. HE'S ON THE PRESIDENT-ELECT'S STAFF. Do any of Obama's people have any respect for the office or the position they hold or the office of any others, especially women. This guy has the emotional level of an adolescent on a playground or he has a drinking problem or both. He should be fired.

I have one thing to say to all those trying to make something huge out of this obvious party prank. Aren't you glad that Facebook, Myspace, etc. wasn't around when W was in college?

Nothing beats oodles of fake outrage – one of my least favorite parts of modern American culture. Get over yourselves and come on down off the high horse before you take a big fall. Yeah, he ought to know not to post photos of himself online or even allow a photo like that to be taken given his job. Otherwise, to try to blow this up beyond what it is – and apparently the Clinton staff took it at face value and laughed it off – is pretty immature and dishonest in its own right. Grow up.

As an Obama supporter and volunteer, I hope that the President-elect exercises good judgment and fires this guy.

For those of you that think this is harmless fun, if it were Clinton folks with a noose around Obama's neck would it be harmless party fun? Once again a clear example of how excepting America is of gender issues but not of racial issues. Women, we are 52% of the population. When are we going to wake up and band together via boycotts, etc. to show the world this is unacceptable!?!?!

This is indicative how Obama staffers have treated Clinton throughout the entire campaign. He needs to resign. There is no room for this nonsense in the new administration.

Yes, I am a whining feminist. I've got a lot of nerve getting pissed off over this, just the lastest of a string of incidents perpetrated by a few Obama staffers/supporters. If this clown had dressed in black face, or had made demeaning poses with a black person, he would have been fired/forced to resign immediately.

Don't get me wrong: I absolutely adore our next President and worked very hard on his election. Clearly, President Obama does not share these sentiments. However, I must say that I am sorely disappointed that he has yet to address sexism in the same manner he addressed racism.

This is completely sexist. I don't care if these guys are drunk or not, they should know better than to behave like that. And like it or not, it is objectification, plain and simple. Surprisingly, it's one of the only examples of genuine sexism Clinton has seen during this entire campaign from the Obama camp....and if you don't think it's sexist, imagine the cardboard cut out is of Obama or McCain, and Favreau's hand is on his crotch. Yep, he's 27, but he's an Obama speech writer. It's time to act like it. And for everyone who is crying this is not sexism, wake up and get off of your tractors, please. It doesn't have to be the REAL Hilary Clinton and a real breast to make it not offensive.

thanks for making a mockery of the country. if this was some low-level affair, then fine. But we're talking about a person who worked directly for the President of the US, writing out what he will say to the world. That's serious business and if you can't conduct yourself according to that role, then something must be done.
