(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.
Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.
The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.
Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.
The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.
How juvenile! Can he possibly be more than 12 years old?
Hahah! It's good to see that Hillary Clinton has a great sense of humor about this issue.
To those giving this guy excuses because of his young age...yes, he's young, but why on earth did Obama hire some young kid to be his speechwriter?? Let him have his young fun, yes, but let him wait until he's 40 or so to handle a job of that caliber.
This is the disgusting man behind Obama's speeches! Next time we here Obama give a speech, maybe the listeners (media included) will realize the person who wrote the words is not Obama, and they will remember this photo. This demonstrates the emptiness of the words and illustrates the selfish, controlling intent behind the rheoric.
Can you say "MORON"? I don't think the picture is sexist, but it sure is STUPID!!! Your telling me that this guy didn't know what he was doing because he was drunk? please no excuses, except full responisibility. Dumb frat boy. Why would Obama want a idiot like that working for him anyway? Fire him. Hire someone intelligent enough to not do stupid things, even if he/she is drunk.
You can't BE SERious... This isn't Sexist... He's a person at a party.. goofing around and hamming it up for a photo with a cardboard cut out of a famous person... If he was pictured kissing a fathead on the wall of Micheal Jordan would he be branded homophobic? If a female-peer of his was snapped doing the same thing wouldn't we all presume it was just a gag pose? I have had to go fight a WAR during the last administration for stupid reasons. THAT is an issue to get excited about... Sure he's goofing around, but he's not even really being insulting to her. Like the piece reports even SHE found it mildly amusing. C'mon: EVERYBODY (young-old-sober-drunk-male-female) *Everybody* goofs for a photo next to a carboard cut-out of a famous person... Is the guy with the beer saying she's a drunk? NO!.. They are PRETENDING to be inappropriate or "overly informal" with an image of an authority figure... I don't care if he was stone sober. So WHAT!? It's a gag photo people! Lighten the * up!!... We have real stuff to deal with. Save your mental space for real scandals & No he shouldn't be fired... wt* is the matter with you people!?! Do you want speeches written buy some overly inhibited mope without even a mild sense of humor? God help me.
As so many have stated already, he is only 27, still immature, etc. Understandable that he would do something like this, drunk, at a party.
But--what I don't understand is why, at his young, immature age, he is the head speechwriter for what will be the leader of the free world.
This is scary.
This is not Obama's fault or anyone's fault, experiment, live and learn.
We live in an immediate world, someone fart's and it is heard around the world in 90 seconds. Chalk it up to what it is, fun in poor taste and move on.
If we were all perfect, we would have no problems to solve. Let's try to fix the ones we have.
of course Clinton had an awesome attitude about it.
With friends like this who needs ememies.
Was he on the clock? Maybe a free party in a free country? Freedom of press? freedom of speech? Freedom of expression? Maybe in another country you all would have had a good time watching his public hanging? He did a great job working for the Obama campaign.
Do any of you critics have a halo over your heads? He has done nothing wrong. LONG LIVE FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!
This was supposed to be a private incident by a 27-year old speechwriter (not a politician) who was partying like most young men of his age.
The person who posted the photo on facebook and the author of this Ticker post should be ashamed of themselves. They owe Jon Favreau and Hillary Clinton an apology.
to mike: Hilary didnt face any sexism, she just vocalized that she was to gain votes.
I think this is one of the funniest things I've seen and it sounds like Hillary liked it. Bill certainly isn't giving her any attention.
I'm a stay-at-home, soccer mom to two young daughters. I was a strong Obama supporter form his earliest primary days. I worked hard for the campaign in my hometown (Houston), and contributed what I could, when I could. The long campaign made me dislike Clinton quite a bit & I am not altogether comfortable with her nomination as Sec. of State. That said, I believe STRONGLY that Jon Favreau should be fired immediately. I am deeply offended by the photos. I have to say I will lose a great measure of respect for Obama if he allows Jon to stay on his team. Not just because it seems to fly in the face of everything he said he stands for, but because I will always find it difficult to believe in any of his future speeches, knowing they could have been written by an overgrown frat boy.
Geez, you uptight people need to relax already.. She wasn't in the room people.. So what!? Aren't there bigger things for you to worry about them him needing to resign and change the course of his life over a stupid party picture while under the influence??... Seriously, pull out that corn cobb.
to sue in MI: The image did not disrespect women, it was a joke on a politician and btw if you took that personally, then you answered your own question to why a woman didnt take office. Emotion needs to be left at the door. when you are president, you're not a person, you are a figure that represents Americas beliefs, Americas policies ect and once you get emotional, you express your weaknesses.
Lighten Up Everyone – no one seems to have a sense of humor any more! I thought the response from Hilary Clinton shows that she does – good for her!
Stupid is as stupid does. I do not care how talented this person may be. When you take a position like this you are held to a higher standard. We have had 8 years of this crap, do not need any more of this "college prank" atmosphere. He needs to step up to the plate and realize that his actions have consequences. He needs to resign.
Yes he's 27... and yes, he's old enough... he should've known better.
This is a great lesson for all. Be careful of what you do. You never know when somebody's gonna put you on his MySpace, or his Facebook, and you're messed up for life...
to bennyhanamaui: let it go man. Racism is OVER! We have a black president which proves that more than 50% is not racist so let it go because now you are the minority!
This was unacceptable. No apology should be allowed to suffice. The guy is 27, which is an ADULT. He's way past college. If I were Barack, I'd get rid of this loser.
Get a life people. It was a harmless goofing around by a couple of friends. People in this country need to relax a little. Get off your high horse. If every little move you made was scrutinized, how would you look to the public?
