Obama speechwriter Favreau learns the perils of Facebook

This photo of Favreau and Clinton appeared on Facebook Friday.

(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.

Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.

The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.

Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.

The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.

its really not so bad that he did it. he's just being a guy, doing what guys do, in the privacy of his home. whats bad is that he let the picture be taken and the person that took it was stupid enough to put it in an online public forum. dumb dumb dumb. he should lose his job not because of his actions but for his stupidity being photographed doing it.

Yes, everyone calm down. He's at a party, he's joking around, he didn't post the photo. I am sure there are arguably controversial photos of everyone. So, give the guy a break.

We at least now know of his existence. Thanks to his lax. Hope he does not carry this mood to the WH. I agree that has nothing to do with sexism, but he's old enough to reflect the prestige of his function even in his free time. Nothing wrong or illegal, but his ethic might be at odds. Besides, this could well be the beginning of his decadence. Jon, my friend, please, rise up to your stature.

This isn't as bad as John McCain calling Hillary's daughter, Chelsea, 'ugly'.

It's true that he's only 27 and should know better at his age, but you can clearly tell it was all in good fun. There's no need to make more out of this photo than necessary. If Clinton was offended at the photo then perhaps an issue can be made of it. However, that is not the case.

There are people in more important political positions doing worse things than this. Let's try to remember that. Of course, he could have saved himself the aggravation by not letting people take pictures of him doing something stupid like this. Cameras and alcohol may not seem like a volatile combination, but it'll catch up with you in the long run.

Now let's move onto more pressing matters. Lord knows we've got plenty to choose from.

Yeah the guy needs to grow up but so do the protesters. If that had been a cutout of some famous model or Hollywood celebrity do you think he would be nailed to the cross for this? No.

True, sexism exists everywhere but you know what? It's a two-way street and I don't see women out there complaining about all those great looking scantily clad men up on billboards and in suggestive photo ads for designer underwear and swimwear, etc. We are a sexual species, we are not earthworms, let's not forget that.

Also, if you look at data, a greater percentage than not of women surveyed would rather work for a male boss than another female.

You so-called "feminists" need to re-think your strategy because you are not helping your cause.

    Happy Days are here again,
So people be of good cheer again,
Bill & Hilly's act will entertain again,
    Happy Days are here again

Bush is gone with his head in shame
And BHO is Pres in nought but name
Bill & Hilly are back for another reign,
    Happy Days are here again.

Change will come, do you think it's true?
What will BHO really do for you?
A novice still, not tried and true,
    Happy Days are here again.

Cabinet are all well known names,
BHO is good at playing games,
He has brought in all the trusted names,
    Happy Days are here again.

All of the Primaries were really a waste of time, Hillary won in the end, good for her. Welcome to The Clintons, series 3. YES

This is the guy that gets Obama his speechwriting gig? The "soul" behind the man? Or, maybe, the post-racial soul man.

That's hilarious! And Hillary's camp's response is just as funny. People need to relax, this is a "no harm, no foul" type of story. If somebody ever gets hold of photos from the college parties of some of the world's most distinguished leaders, this picture will look soooo tame in comparison. Anybody have some photos from some of George W's or Bill Clinton's dorm parties? Do you hear that? I think it's the sound of Ebay calling 🙂

If this was a member of the Bush administration there would be protests and candlelight vigils throughout America. CodePink and Cindy Sheehan would be crying for impeachment, and the liberal talk shows switchboards would be flooded with "offended" callers. This is change we can believe in? Don't blame me, I didn't vote for the anointed one!

Good for Hillary for accepting his apology. I guess its her not wanting to appear to over sensitive and that she can take a joke. But just because she accepts his apology doesn't mean that Obama should. I think the head speech writer for the president of the united states should show a far greater level of professionalism then this young kid....even when he's at parties where he doesn't expect there to be any press.

This is a big deal....had this been a picture of Michelle Obama and this idiot had his had on her breast being a moron....everyone would be calling for his head. So let me be the first to call for his head and that his matter how good of a speech he writes....never comes up for a White House job.

This is very disrespectful to a lady like Ms. Hillary . At that age many people have done bad things. This young man deserves a 2nd chance. I'm glad someone gave me a second chance. I bet Hillary would give him a 2nd chance also considering all the things she's been through. Hopefully ,this guy will learn his lession and watch his behavior. Let's MOVE ON!

Are you all freaking kidding me? Haven't you all heard of "he without sin, cast the first stone"? It's fine for you to have your own little indiscretions, as long as it isn't exposed. If one of your buddies did this in a party, you all wouldn't have a problem with it. Come on, don't be freaking hypocrites. I would hate to live in a world where stuff like this (someone's idea of a mistake), is a criteria for employment. I mean think of it, if some said "well, I can't give you a job because you smoke".

As a soon to be college graduate, our professors always preach about taking things off of Facebook because things like this may happen. Personally, I don't see much wrong with it, it doesn't seem sexist or mean in anyway as much as it is a funny joke with friends at a party. I don't care how old he is, it's his private time outside of work. People say what you do outside of work is a reflection of where you work, but come on. Let's not act like everyone who works for the government is an angel outside of the office. I believe people can have fun and still think properly on the job.

what a piece of garbage! As an Obama supporter, I find his actions objectionable, and offensive. He should not find a place in the Obama administration....or any other administration. Fire him!
