Obama speechwriter Favreau learns the perils of Facebook

This photo of Favreau and Clinton appeared on Facebook Friday.

(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.

Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.

The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.

Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.

The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.

Time to learn there are consequences for behavior, regardless of age or political party or anything else. Professional behavior is expected at every level of the workforce, period.

He needs to be fired. He posted this picture, according to the story. Behaving in such a manner is not acceptable, especially in public service.

    Merry Christmas!

I would be stunned if any one posting here hasn't done anything far worse than this. I'm right, aren't I? Admit it!

Yes, boys will be boys, and girls will be girls. Nonsense is all fine in private. Bar the cameras. The ISSUE is the decision to be photographed while being an "boy" and the decision to post it to FaceBook as a representative photo of oneself. We can all have our fun in private, but what employers and others use to judge us is our decision making. Clearly, his decision making is flawed, not in acting silly, but in putting it online as part of his "DIGITAL FOOTPRINT" ... everyone should heed this, what you choose to post online as yourself is what others will see. It's the DECISION TO POST THE PHOTO that is questionable. I saw this in a cop who posted some naughtiness - not illegal, just crude silliness - but the judgement to post the photo is what sank him.

Why is Hilary Clinton at a frat party which is obviously overflowing with booze? Shouldn't we call her judgement into question? Obviously the guy shouldn't have put his hand there, but it takes two to tango.

no surprise here...typical Nobama punk....the rules don't apply to them because they are special....don't judge them by how they act, but by how good they make you feel with empty gas and no more mortgage payments!, have some more Kool-Aid, you easily manipulated fools. just give them all your money and they will figure out how to distribute it - after lining their own pockets first, like that crook from freddie mac, rahm emmanuel.

This looks like it was taken at a private party and a lot of alcohol might have been consumed. That is no excuse for stupidity but it might explain it. He should be ashamed of himself and mad that the picture was posted in the first place.. I'm glad he apologised and that Hilary has accepted it and taken it in her stride. He should not have any major role in Obama's organization from now on because he obviously does not show good judgement. However, this is taking some important news coverage time which should be devoted to the economy, bailouts, Indian attacks, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. etc. etc. Set some priorities about what is really important.

Please! Get a life! How can you hipocrytes even bother to react??? A guy makes a joke at a party. So what? Does that make him disrespectful? Or stupid? And worst of all: what is wrong with sex and nudity. Believe it or not, an overwhelming majority of us engage in it. By making it a bid deal, you are being not only stupid, but also biggots. So please, focus on the important stuff, such as financial crisis, crime, etc, and realize nudity, sex and having fun without harming is a part of actually having a life.

  13. The least of our worries

I love how people are getting their gonads in a knot over young people having fun. He writes speeches for Obama. Who cares?

So a picture of this guy's friend grabbing feeling up cardboard cuttout Hillary is enough to make the news. Why is this important at all? There are people dying in Sudan and India and Afghanistan and how many other diferent places, to be quite honest I feel we have more important things to do. How are cardboard-cutout Hillary's breasts going to get jobs back or fix our inane forign policy. It isnt. Obama is and this is just his recent college-grad speech writer enjoying himself. It isn't important. Grow up.

I think anyone doing something like this with a cardboard cutout is funny – why be offended. Having said that, I think it would be a different story if this were Michelle Obama.
He had, a will probably have a high profile job – and like everyone else, you will be under a microscope constantly. It's time to grow up and act like an adult if you want to accept a position such as that.

I'll be frank here and say that I just watched our weekly address from Obama on job reconstruction. I couldn't help but having visions of this character (Favreau) fondling Hillary as Obama was reading Favreau's words. GET RID OF HIM (Favreau).

Hey, it's not like he was a pedophile or something. Of course, maybe he needs to have someone keep an eye on him, just for being stupid!

Think of what the response would have been if the McCains had gotten into the WH. Cindy would have made even more money off all the drunks. I hear booze is still doing well in this economy. To bad for our future generation who has to suffer for the drunks.

Get Real Ppl. What makes that pic sexist?
Could it not be what every sports fan does in their own way to their most competitve rival?
Is there an allegegation he muttered something sexist while doing this? or what were his intentions?
We don't know. Just coz its a female cut-out doesn't make it sexist. If this was a dude's cut out or an animal cut-out or an object cut-out, it would not have been blown up like this. Just coz its Hillary, it becomes a big deal. If this was a supermodel or others cut-out, it wouldn't have mattered.
All it is is that this is a private pic of someone having fun in his privacy, away from his high-pressure surrounidng.
It could have been anyone in his situation with their picture being taken caught doing something caused by alcohol.

Get over it and stop drumming up Sexism and making a story whenever possible about it.
What he or she does in their own privacy is their own business. Obviously this pic should not have been made public given his high profile. But to penalize him over a non-criminal act in his private life is ridiculous.

    End of story
