Obama speechwriter Favreau learns the perils of Facebook

(CNN) - Jon Favreau, future White House director of speechwriting, has so far been at a loss for words over Facebook pictures of him at a recent party.

Pictures of Favreau, 27, at a recent party appeared on Facebook Friday. In one of the photos, Favreau, who served as President-elect Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter during the campaign season, was dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of future secretary of state Hillary Clinton. In a second photo, a friend was offering the cutout a bottle of beer while Favreau stood beside the likeness with his hand on the cardboard New York senator’s chest.

The picture was reportedly up for a scant two hours or so before Favreau removed it, along with every other picture of himself beyond his profile photo - but there’s no getting the Facebook genie back in the bottle.

Favreau wasn’t talking to reporters about the incident, but transition officials said he had offered an apology to Clinton.

The Clinton camp reaction? "Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," Clinton aide Philippe Reines told the Washington Post.

    Lighten up folks...
it is a cardboard cut out...he is 27....it was joke.
Have you never larked around at a party??? If not you should try it.
No doubt...Hillary being the bright, secure woman that she is, will laugh it off and no doubt have a joke with him about it too.

He is an excellent speech writer...so you would have him sacked over a moment of stupidity that hurt no one except himself?

    Again...lighten up!!! It's Christmas.

No surprise here, folks. Anyone who even casually followed the contest for the Democratic nomination shouldn't be surprised by this. Obama is right in that no matter who he appoints, he sets the tone. Witness the 27 year old lackey who thinks it's okay to be sexist and demeaning toward women. He takes his cue from Barack "Sweetie" Obama.

Geeze, he was just partying, and it was a joke. Get over it. There are worse problems in the world.

For crying out loud it was harmless fun I can't count the number of stupid pictures on facebook we have actual problems and this is what gets peoples blood boiling unbelieveable. Obama has been nothing but respectful to women or else he would not have given Hillary a position a top position in his cabinet all you haters just go away. Second he has appointed Richarson a latino to his cabinet for those saying he has not done enough. Third why should he appiont people just for the color of their skin I thought that is what the GOP was complaining about the whole time that Obama was treated easly because he is black. Finally, am hispanic and appreciate the fact that he is appionting people who are qualify for the position and not just giving us a hand out. People forget their history and the problem with the people Clinton appionted when he was president.

@Martin: Obama ignored latinos? Really? I think you need to look at his list of nominations again before you make that statement. Plus he's only nominated 6 of the 15 cabinet positions... can you say "knee-jerk reaction"?

    Martin,

Regarding Obama "ignoring" Latinos in his cabinet... ever hear of Bill Richardson?

I'm very pleased to see that Hillary has a sense of humor and is laughing this off. I think that's the correct response and makes me respect her more.

Come on. This guy is obviously at some casual party at somebody's house among friends. It's not like this was a White House function. I'm positive that everybody reading this and everybody else in Washington has done things they later wish they hadn't done when they were drinking with friends. This is not a reason to get upset, and kudos to Hillary for recognizing that.

And they said there wasn't abundant sexism among Obama's people. Obama needs to stand a firm public stand against this kind of behavior, fire those who were involved, and make eliminating sexism in America a national policy goal. He was right there making a speech and a lot of noise about racism when it flew in his face, but he ignores this.

    GASP! THE HORRORS!

The only mistake this clown made was to post this stuff up.

Seriously, who cares if someone wants to drink some beer and goof around. You all need to stop pointing fingers and get a life, you boring bitter old hens.

This kind of stuff happens all the time – you just don't expect a person on a very important political campaign to (a) be stupid enough to POSE for such a photo and (b) post it online.

Bad judgement,. By someone who wrote speeches about judgement and is going to be put in charge of White House speechwriting–? He's not ready for prime time. Suppose that had been a card-board cut out of some Middle Eastern ruler's wife?

The kid isn't up to a Washington job in anyone's camp. But then, neither is Obama.

The response from the Hillary camp was perfect: funny, sarcastic, calling him an idiot, and invoking reality....
