[...] Take this story about future Barack Obama White House speechwriting director Jon Favreau, who found his mug posted on facebook, making a joking hand gesture at a cardboard image of Hillary Clinton at a party. Once Favreau realized it was up, it came down. But as the story noted, the damage was done at that point. Obama’s speechwriter isn’t Obama, nor a preacher and has the right to drink and make jokes or whatever like anyone else. But increasingly, it’s becoming tougher and tougher to separate folks’ private and personal lives, especially if those same people fancy social networking, where friends and family can check up on loved ones 24/7. In essence, facebookers and the like can relate personal and detailed information to those they see every day and also to old friends with whom they might not have spoken with since grade school.
Umm... her husband... the President, remember... who was much older than 27... got it on w/the intern and got to keep his job.

You want this guy to lose his job for having a good time at a party? For not having 'good judgment"??? What a laugh!!

Maybe her response should be, "Well, at least *someone* still finds me attractive."

Well he can kiss that job goodbye. Gotta love Myspace or facebook, while it can be a good tool and friend, it can also be your downfall. Though its not the worst thing in the world he did, nevertheless it was the most stupidest, especially when he knows he is going thru the application process. Give me the job of speech writing and at the same time I know how to show respect to the former first lady. I agree with some of the posters on here, the super smart kids who are involved in business and government. Scairy thing when you think about it. I guess its no different when my parent's generation was their age in the 70s how dumb mistakes they made. Every age group has their share of idiots. I am sure Mr.Obama is taking note of this and is not pleased. Word to Jon, better have a plan B, because I think you just threw your future out the door. Hope you have learned from your mistakes.

Mark ~ Honestly, Kool-Aid? Bad choice of drink! For your information, politicians have been lining their pockets since before I was born. It will not change as long as the government is, well, the government. Start the change you want to see!

An Obama speech writer being sexist? And the media criticizing Hillary's response? Forgive me if I don't faint with shock. As a feminist, I'm not disappointed in Clinton's response. She acted like an adult. If she had called it out as sexist and demanded an apology, then the talking heads in the media would have complained that she continued to "play the gender card" or "couldn't take the heat." Since she didn't take that bait, the media blames her for her lack of feminist outrage. She just can't win. The media is the real problem here.

As to those who are thinking "boys will be boys." I'd like to add that his age is no excuse for his behavior. At 27, he shouldn't be acting like a drunk frat boy. If he still acting like that, then Obama should dump him until he grows up. I don't really care if the average 27 year-old gets drunk and acts like an idiot at a party (I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt that alcohol played a role in the judgment), but this guy is a speech writer for the next leader of the most powerful country on earth. Forgive me if I have higher expectations. There are a lot of good speech writers out there, ones with common sense as well as a way with word. Obama should hire one of them.

Just what the President of the United States needs as a speechwriter-- a 27 year old drunken frat boy. Why am I not surprised? Fortunately, Bambi wasn't quite as dumb in his cabinet choices.

But what about that auto bail-out?

Two people should have used some more common sense. One, don't let people take pictures of you that put you in a bad light. Two, unless you're trying to humiliate someone, don't post pictures like that to facebook.

To Bennyhanamaui and Mark:

People like you are simply cartoons and jokes, Here you have a person that does something incredibly stupid and immature and you find a way to throw ignorant rants out about Obama.

Here is a thought. When the country begins to turn around and enjoys success and prosperity again why don't you and your ilk reject any benefits of that success as a protest against Obama. You hate him for "whatever" reason so just reject anything that he has a hand in. Be disciples of hate and refuse any and all things that could possibly benefit you and your families. That way you can show Obama and the world that YOU were right all along about his policies and his presidency and that YOU are smarter than us all!!! That way we can celebrate you and say hooray for the superior intelligent people like you!!!

And he posted that on Facebook? He posted that himself? It doesn't get any dumber than this. I am not bothered as much with what he did. Yeah, it's not pretty, it's not a laudable behavior, but then again that is a party and people let lose at a party. I've done my share of dumb things at parties. But, hell, I never posted the thing on Facebook for the world to see. Particularly one that is relevant for his future position at the WH. I'd say this proves enough stupidity on his part to lose his job; just posting the picture on Facebook. What he was doing at that party is his business and I hope everyone had a good time.

He's not just any 27 year old guy having fun at a party. He's the speechwriter and an advisor to the President of the United States. He should be replaced because of his incredibly bad judgement and stupidity. This isn't just any old job, and this isn't any old president either.
I proudly support President -elect Obama and want to see him with the absolute best people around him. This man ( he's not a kid at 27) is obviously not one of the brightest minds, and not someone I would like to see advising our new President on anything.

Outrageous;

I am so very tired of people in politics and on fox making fun of H. C.
They are either jealous, or, afraid of her. Probably both.
She is a hard working good politician. (Who cares for us and her country)
This speechwriter needs to write his next speech in the form of a very public apology, and read it to the country who has seen this ugly thing. on that fox thing.

If I had never heard of her, I would still be offended.

I.C. In Amarillo, Texas

A stupid story, but the Clinton camp may have had the lamest reaction imaginable.

"Sen. Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department"?!!!

That's something a twelve-year old girl would say. I honestly have no idea why Barack Obama nominated Hillary Clinton for SOS.

"Obvious interest in the state department", what an awesome remark. That is so deliciously perfect. Clinton, cheers to such wit! It's funny, I want a cardboard cutout of Hillary now too...where do I get one? She'll come and party with me everywhere.
