(CNN) – Former Vice President Al Gore is set to meet with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday, a move that's likely to unleash a wave of speculation that the incoming president is eyeing Gore for a slot in his administration.
According to the Obama transition office, the meeting will focus on issues relating to energy and climate change, and how the new administration's environmental policies can spur job creation.
Democratic officials have said Obama is not looking to tap Gore for a Cabinet-level post or any other position in the administration.
A Gore appointment would almost certainly be greeted with celebration from members of party's liberal wing, many of whom are still angered he lost the White House in 2000 despite wining the popular vote.
Gore has also rocketed to stardom in the years since his failed presidential bid, winning a Nobel Peace Prize last year for his work to raise awareness on the dangers of global warming. The former vice president also was involved in making a documentary on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," which won two Oscars in 2007.
But Gore, who has made millions in the private sector since his days at the White House during stints on corporate boards - including Apple Inc. - and partnerships at venture capital firms, has suggested he has little interest in returning to government. A spokesman for Gore flatly said last week the former vice president has no interest in serving the Obama administration.
Nonetheless, Gore's high profile visit to Chicago is raising eyebrows, even among some of Gore's close advisers.
"The Gore trip is for more than just a chat," a close friend of Gore told CNN's John King. "He wouldn't burn that much carbon flying to Chicago just to talk."

Should be a good meeting....
They should be meeting as a president talking to the president elect – thanks GWB. Imagine our world if that was the case.
All we need... another left-wing crazy cozying up to Obama. Algore is also part of the past.... more evidence of the CHANGE Obama promised, I guess.
Gore has done a lot of research on the subject and is a good source of information. I'm sure Obama would tap republicans for advice, too, if he could find one who believed in scientific facts.
JUST ONE SMART MOVE AFTER THE NEXT. VERY HAPPY, FEEL LIKE SOMETHING GREAT IS COMING AND JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FUTURE.
Love it. We need wisdom to lead us into this new century and it's exactly what President-elect Obama is using.
President elect-Obama is putting the right people in the right places. I'm not saying that he's going to pick Gore as the energy secretary, but i'm sure the former VP will give him great insight on who a good contender will be for the position. A little off topic, but we need to swear in President-elect Obama now. The markets are responding to his message on the economy. Whenever he gives a speech on the economy or where this country needs to be heading, markets seem to respond.
Mr Environmental Czar for Pres. Gore that seems fitting.
It's time for Gore to step up and lead Obama's alternative energy initiatives.
Even if you dismiss global warming entirely, there remain very serious pragmatic motives for reducing our dependence on oil as an urgent strategic priority.
We need to gradually raise import tariffs on oil and taxes on gasoline, to both motivate people to reduce their oil consumption and to fund alternatives. If we don't, it's just a matter of time until we're looking at $5/gallon gas again.
Fool me once,...
Al Gore for EPA head.
I still can't believe Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize. "I was V.P. and said stuff that other people have been saying for decades, Nobel Prize please."
It's okay though, I buy carbon credits from myself too. And use a private plane.
Hopefully they discuss the global threat of ManBearPig too. It's super serial. (Too mean?)
Sounds like a great meeting, I hope Al and Barack can devise a strategy to defeat MAN-BEAR-PIG...IM CEREAL...
m. You know, Obama has not yet named an energy secretary...
Governments don't create jobs, people do. If Obama can't even get this small fact right we are in big trouble.
just another great move by our pres-elect. now he can launch his"green" platform to make everyone feel warm and cozy with thier wind mills turning.
This is how you do it! Finally, a leader again.
I hope Obama and Biden chose Gore to work on there transition team
Gore would be good energy adviser on Obama transition team
Human involvement in global warming is the biggest scam ever perpetuated on the world. Only a fool believes that. Al "Do as I say, not as I do" Gore is a total dunderhead that is raking in millions on this scam.
It would be nice if Gore work in Obama's cabinet.
a lot of smart minds in one place, sounds good.
He won a Nobel Prize right? I think that's advice he should listen to closely. Seriously, a President that will listen to experts and weigh their advice is CHANGE we need. I'm so glad we will finally have a President that will lead in that manner.
Good move
I hope this turns out to be an informative, productive meeting. Al Gore's knowledge can only help with what he offers about global warming. I hope immediate action is taken, considering what the polar bears are facing. I'd hate to see those beautiful animals become extinct in my life time.
The question is: How much are we, ALL, willing to sacrifice, to set things right.... the director i used to work with, doesnt even believe in global warming...
