Obama, Gore meeting raises eyebrows

Gore is meeting with Obama Tuesday.

Gore is meeting with Obama Tuesday.

(CNN) - Former Vice President Al Gore is set to meet with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday, a move that's likely to unleash a wave of speculation that the incoming president is eyeing Gore for a slot in his administration.

According to the Obama transition office, the meeting will focus on issues relating to energy and climate change, and how the new administration's environmental policies can spur job creation.

Democratic officials have said Obama is not looking to tap Gore for a Cabinet-level post or any other position in the administration.

A Gore appointment would almost certainly be greeted with celebration from members of party's liberal wing, many of whom are still angered he lost the White House in 2000 despite wining the popular vote.

Gore has also rocketed to stardom in the years since his failed presidential bid, winning a Nobel Peace Prize last year for his work to raise awareness on the dangers of global warming. The former vice president also was involved in making a documentary on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," which won two Oscars in 2007.

But Gore, who has made millions in the private sector since his days at the White House during stints on corporate boards - including Apple Inc. - and partnerships at venture capital firms, has suggested he has little interest in returning to government. A spokesman for Gore flatly said last week the former vice president has no interest in serving the Obama administration.

Nonetheless, Gore's high profile visit to Chicago is raising eyebrows, even among some of Gore's close advisers.

"The Gore trip is for more than just a chat," a close friend of Gore told CNN's John King. "He wouldn't burn that much carbon flying to Chicago just to talk."

  4. America loses

The sad thing is that American businesses will soon be at a huge disadvantage because of the liberals believe that the world is choking from survival if we don't punish businesses soon and only US businesses soon with a huge tax increase better known as Cap and Trade. It will ruin any chance a business that burns carbon will survive in a world marketplace where other countries will be so thankful they will have fewer competitors once the US businesses begin to fail.

Thank you Liberals for Cap and Trade we love the fresh air of nobody working.

We are about to go into the mother of all Depressions if Baracka and the Liberals ruin Main Street and Wall Street's economy with their excessive taxes and excessive regulations ala the way the alarmist like Gore want.

By the way,the ice has been thickening the last two years in both the north and south poles. Explain why that is so, Greenhouse theorists.

Yes, Gore is a past vice-president with a forward thinking agenda when it comes to the environment. He has a Nobel prize for heavens sake. I say if there is a job opening regarding the environment, you want this guy on your team, President-elect Obama,

That would be wonderful if Obama would offer Gore a position in EPA and he accepted it. We would really have a good chance of making a difference in the world in regards to the enviroment and climate change. Lord only knows we need to do something quick.

As far as the new Jeremiah Wright attack ad that is airing after the election...the result would have been the same. The GOP on the Right doesn't seem to "get it", no one cares about scare tactics and mud slinging when you are losing your house, job and lifestyle. This is about survival and may the person with the superior intelligence, temperment and plan win...hence PRESIDENT OBAMA. Thank you very much.

It wouldn't make much sense for Obama to not utilize the strengths of Gore. For those of you who are still trying the line "where's the change", give it up already. Do you not realize how pathetically stupid you sound. Change is not ignoring anyone who has served in public office before – for crying out loud.

Hey Kevin, Just because Al Gore has be in DC in the past doesn't devalue what he has to say....have you won a Nobel prize for your work on environmental issues?

Good, Al Gore should take more of an Active Role of following through with solutions to the Climate Problem!! Its a good way of not only talking about the problem but actually doing something about the problem!!

I LIke the way Obama is picking up the phone an reaching out to anybody who has more insight on any particular issue!! By calling and speaking to Republicans and Democrats alike and putting them on the same page!! Either your part of the Solution or part of the Problem!!! Neo-Cons please take note ,( I know you are a dying breed)!!!!!

Kevin in OH> Give it up. A SMART president confers w. people who are well-versed on a particular subject, regardless of whether or not the person has been in office before. So, yes, this IS a change. If you don't think the way B. is doing things is different from the way things have been done (or, rather, haven't been done!) during the past 8 years, I don't know where you've been.
Oh, and Al is hardly a "crazy".

Kevin in Ohio is out to lunch. Al may be part of the past Clinton administration, but his award winning efforts to draw attention to climate change came after that. Thanks to BushCo, NOTHING has changed since and things have gotten worse, policy wise. So yes, any ideas or efforts that Gore could contribute to the Obama administration will in fact be WELCOME change.

Al Gore or Hillary Clinton or Colin Powell would have been a better president or commander-in-chief in a dangerous world, more qualified and more experienced with proven records and past government achievements. Maybe Michelle Robinson Obama will follow Hillary Clinton's footsteps and become the first woman president. Barack Obama is in the eyes of the public, and models smoking for others, his own children for example. If we common citizens have any addiction or problems, we only affect ourselves, family and closed society, but not the world at large. The kids are watching and learning the bad habit from the president, their hero. He told Brokaw he had quit smoking, only to change his rheoric seconds later, as having been unsuccessful, and falling off the wagon. The kids are watching and learning... We all better learn to smile like Barack Obama, it works all the time.

Great to hear that Obama and Gore are meeting. I hope that Gore will be offered a position either within the EPA which has been a push over for GWB or the Department of Energy. I've both been to Al Gore's lectures, and met him personally. I can truly say that he is an intelligent man who has ideas and a love for country that goes beyond money and politics.

Lets make energy production America's next milk and honey, as electronics, automobiles, and computers once were.

Would someone please tell Kevin in Ohio that global warming is real? I know that information is not made available on Fox News. Reality does not exist for Right wingnuts, as they still think there were WMD's in Iraq even though our fearless leader ("W") has admitted there were none in his interview this past week.

Kevin of Ohio, get over the right vs left bs okay, and yes Al Gore is blast from the past which by the way the economy did very well under Clinton/Gore administration. This meeting is about the enviorment issues not the political issues. With Bush out of the picture is a change you right-wing crazy.

Gore should be EPA chief. Bush has poisoned planet Earth and our environment. Global warming is real. you have back up documentation and sources for your $5 trillion figure. I doubt it.
