Obama, Gore meeting raises eyebrows

Gore is meeting with Obama Tuesday.

Gore is meeting with Obama Tuesday.

(CNN) - Former Vice President Al Gore is set to meet with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday, a move that's likely to unleash a wave of speculation that the incoming president is eyeing Gore for a slot in his administration.

According to the Obama transition office, the meeting will focus on issues relating to energy and climate change, and how the new administration's environmental policies can spur job creation.

Democratic officials have said Obama is not looking to tap Gore for a Cabinet-level post or any other position in the administration.

A Gore appointment would almost certainly be greeted with celebration from members of party's liberal wing, many of whom are still angered he lost the White House in 2000 despite wining the popular vote.

Gore has also rocketed to stardom in the years since his failed presidential bid, winning a Nobel Peace Prize last year for his work to raise awareness on the dangers of global warming. The former vice president also was involved in making a documentary on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," which won two Oscars in 2007.

But Gore, who has made millions in the private sector since his days at the White House during stints on corporate boards - including Apple Inc. - and partnerships at venture capital firms, has suggested he has little interest in returning to government. A spokesman for Gore flatly said last week the former vice president has no interest in serving the Obama administration.

Nonetheless, Gore's high profile visit to Chicago is raising eyebrows, even among some of Gore's close advisers.

"The Gore trip is for more than just a chat," a close friend of Gore told CNN's John King. "He wouldn't burn that much carbon flying to Chicago just to talk."

Coldest winter I've ever lived through so far. Been in the low 20's every night and we normally don't see that until January or February. But I guess global warming just doesn't effect my part of the country. Supposed to get a good snow on Thursday.

Just another brick out of Clinton's house, when's it gonna stop? This guy could care less about the enviroment. If Mr. Gore was truly concerned, his home in Tennessee would have had every imaginable energy savings technology installed outside, and inside! Just as a reminder ,I recall when some people actually looked into his sincerity about doing everything he said to reducing green-house gases, etc. there wasn't any,nut-in, period! The guys a charlatan,....all he had done was say his Gas(Energy Supplier) Co. was using energy saving technology,Wow!

Environment is one of Gores academic expertise, this is not something he "winged it" to bring him World attention. Obama is picking people who didn't get where they are by "winging it", the Republicans should learn a lot from Obama.

I think a lot of people felt that President Bush was not the real winner of the original election, however, he had 8 years, 6 of which were with a rubber stamp Republican congress to prove that he was a real leader and failed miserably at every turm. If Karl Rove thinks that he can spin away one of the worst presidencies in the history of this great nation by "naming names" he is sadly mistaken. The legacy of the failed and unjustifiable Iraq war, one of the greatest deficits in our history plus the total mismanagement of our economy and the abolition or underfunding of the regulations and regulatory agencies that were supposed to keep our financial system safe will be the hallmarks of this administration that Karl Rove help architec.
    Won't miss any of them.

Despite any fallacies that former Vice President Gore may have, he and his organization have found a way to tell the world of the dangers of global warming in a way that seems to make a difference. He has earned respect for these efforts across many parts of the globe and from both sides of the political isle; although not universal support. I would hope that he can play at least an advisory role when it comes to the environment in President Obama’s Administration. Head of the EPA would be nice, but I think he needs to be more visible. Such as an Environmental and New Energy Development Tsar. Sorry to use the tsar cliché, but you know what I mean.

The guys that think the enviroment is more important than the economy are getting together. How many of you have $35,000.00 to put solar on your house? How many of you have $10,000.00 to convert your car to natural gas or to own an electric car to commute around town and a gas powered car for long trips so you don't have to spend the night at a hotel every few hundred miles to recharge the battery. From my experience at work just a couple of days of cloudy weather and the batteries from the solar power system for instrumentation are dead and our technicians are there hooking up gas powered generators. After 40 years we are no where near the ability of being renewable energy powered and we won't be after 150 billion dollars over the next 10 years unless they carbon tax us so we do not drive or heat and cool our homes like they do in Europe.

Sounds like Barack & Joe are gonna tag team him... get him to agree to be part of the Administration, at least on a limited advisory basis.

We're saved! The troops out of Iraq in 16 months, tax increases on anyone making over $250,000, windfall profit taxes on oil companies (I sure hope the incoming administration doesn't back down on each and every one of these promises)...and NOW perfectly clean air. How about a chicken in every pot? Or maybe a polar bear?

(Vice) President Gore's with the President-Elect should be a good one. I agree with the previous comment; what a better world this would be had we been talking about a meeting between out-going President Gore and President-elect Obama.
