(CNN) – Former Vice President Al Gore is set to meet with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday, a move that's likely to unleash a wave of speculation that the incoming president is eyeing Gore for a slot in his administration.
According to the Obama transition office, the meeting will focus on issues relating to energy and climate change, and how the new administration's environmental policies can spur job creation.
Democratic officials have said Obama is not looking to tap Gore for a Cabinet-level post or any other position in the administration.
A Gore appointment would almost certainly be greeted with celebration from members of party's liberal wing, many of whom are still angered he lost the White House in 2000 despite wining the popular vote.
Gore has also rocketed to stardom in the years since his failed presidential bid, winning a Nobel Peace Prize last year for his work to raise awareness on the dangers of global warming. The former vice president also was involved in making a documentary on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," which won two Oscars in 2007.
But Gore, who has made millions in the private sector since his days at the White House during stints on corporate boards - including Apple Inc. - and partnerships at venture capital firms, has suggested he has little interest in returning to government. A spokesman for Gore flatly said last week the former vice president has no interest in serving the Obama administration.
Nonetheless, Gore's high profile visit to Chicago is raising eyebrows, even among some of Gore's close advisers.
"The Gore trip is for more than just a chat," a close friend of Gore told CNN's John King. "He wouldn't burn that much carbon flying to Chicago just to talk."
Yes!!!!!! more green jobs, more green jobs, more green jobs! More jobs period!
All you negative people need to shut up and let Obama do his thing. Always so negative. It is about change. Just because he is bringing SMART AND QUALIFIED people from the past so what!!!
Find something else to talk about and stop being so negative.
Coldest winter I've ever lived through so far. Been in the low 20's every night and we normally don't see that until January or February. But I guess global warming just doesn't effect my part of the country. Supposed to get a good snow on Thursday.
Mr Hot Air meets Mr No Experience
Just another brick out of Clinton's house, when's it gonna stop? This guy could care less about the enviroment. If Mr. Gore was truly concerned, his home in Tennessee would have had every imaginable energy savings technology installed outside, and inside! Just as a reminder ,I recall when some people actually looked into his sincerity about doing everything he said to reducing green-house gases, etc. there wasn't any,nut-in, period! The guys a charlatan,....all he had done was say his Gas(Energy Supplier) Co. was using energy saving technology,Wow!
about time they talk to him ... In the long term Environment based economics will probably fuel the global economy and branch out new industries we cant fathom at this point.
Environment is one of Gores academic expertise, this is not something he "winged it" to bring him World attention. Obama is picking people who didn't get where they are by "winging it", the Republicans should learn a lot from Obama.
I think a lot of people felt that President Bush was not the real winner of the original election, however, he had 8 years, 6 of which were with a rubber stamp Republican congress to prove that he was a real leader and failed miserably at every turm. If Karl Rove thinks that he can spin away one of the worst presidencies in the history of this great nation by "naming names" he is sadly mistaken. The legacy of the failed and unjustifiable Iraq war, one of the greatest deficits in our history plus the total mismanagement of our economy and the abolition or underfunding of the regulations and regulatory agencies that were supposed to keep our financial system safe will be the hallmarks of this administration that Karl Rove help architec.
Won't miss any of them.
Despite any fallacies that former Vice President Gore may have, he and his organization have found a way to tell the world of the dangers of global warming in a way that seems to make a difference. He has earned respect for these efforts across many parts of the globe and from both sides of the political isle; although not universal support. I would hope that he can play at least an advisory role when it comes to the environment in President Obama’s Administration. Head of the EPA would be nice, but I think he needs to be more visible. Such as an Environmental and New Energy Development Tsar. Sorry to use the tsar cliché, but you know what I mean.
The guys that think the enviroment is more important than the economy are getting together. How many of you have $35,000.00 to put solar on your house? How many of you have $10,000.00 to convert your car to natural gas or to own an electric car to commute around town and a gas powered car for long trips so you don't have to spend the night at a hotel every few hundred miles to recharge the battery. From my experience at work just a couple of days of cloudy weather and the batteries from the solar power system for instrumentation are dead and our technicians are there hooking up gas powered generators. After 40 years we are no where near the ability of being renewable energy powered and we won't be after 150 billion dollars over the next 10 years unless they carbon tax us so we do not drive or heat and cool our homes like they do in Europe.
Sounds like Barack & Joe are gonna tag team him... get him to agree to be part of the Administration, at least on a limited advisory basis.
I hope Al Gore will be our new energy leader.
He is the best of the best!
We're saved! The troops out of Iraq in 16 months, tax increases on anyone making over $250,000, windfall profit taxes on oil companies (I sure hope the incoming administration doesn't back down on each and every one of these promises)...and NOW perfectly clean air. How about a chicken in every pot? Or maybe a polar bear?
The Democrates are a bunch of Mother Hens. Mother Hens never want anyone to fail, but if you never fail you never change or learn how to get back up and try again after you fail!
Getting advice is always good, then make your own choice!
WOW! David thinks global warming is a farce... lets do away with all the rain forest in the world and lets see what happens, lets continue to destroy the enviornment and lets see what happens, LIFE AS WE KNOW IT TODAY WILL BE TOO SHORT!
(Vice) President Gore's with the President-Elect should be a good one. I agree with the previous comment; what a better world this would be had we been talking about a meeting between out-going President Gore and President-elect Obama.
Don't let the Congress push him into a corner, they all have thier own reason for wanting him to charge of the mess that GWB made it is his mess as long as he is in the office of the President, not Obama's!
Good deal. He's dealing with people who has brains and who can think. This global situation is serious business. God made us stewards of this earth. For those of you who think different read Gensis. Whether you believe it or not or except it or not, we and everything is connected together. Remember?, the financial market!
Yes, put him in charge of EPA.
I wonder if Gore will express the dangers of ManBearPig.
It is my #1 issue for sure.
You are the man Obamania. These are the times we should waste if we are really serious about solving our global issues as of this 21st century way of doing things.I wish you the best coffee and breakfast together with the former vice-president very soon and hopefully the best will come from your discussing. What a smart gift of president-elect we got.
Put Gore in charge of conning people about global warming and how it has no affect on his personal energy bills each month.
I am for Socialized Health Care and College, we as Americans need to stop living as a third world country, you never hear about them dieing from not being able to go to the hospital before going through Insurance Compaines they do not have them for Health Care! The same is true with College in most of the first rate country you just have to go on your own accord!
@ Kevin in Ohio........stop being SO cynical...... CHANGE IS HAPPENING! Some are just too blind to SEE!
Change IS using the BEST from the past, as well as the future!
Change IS also about CHANGING THE WAY BUSINESS IS DONE IN WASHINGTON!
And CHANGE IS bringing together THE BEST TEAM possible to help you lead.
Secretary of Energy anyone?
Gore needs to head the EPA...that office is a mess.
