Obama, Gore meeting raises eyebrows

Gore is meeting with Obama Tuesday.

Gore is meeting with Obama Tuesday.

(CNN) - Former Vice President Al Gore is set to meet with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday, a move that's likely to unleash a wave of speculation that the incoming president is eyeing Gore for a slot in his administration.

According to the Obama transition office, the meeting will focus on issues relating to energy and climate change, and how the new administration's environmental policies can spur job creation.

Democratic officials have said Obama is not looking to tap Gore for a Cabinet-level post or any other position in the administration.

A Gore appointment would almost certainly be greeted with celebration from members of party's liberal wing, many of whom are still angered he lost the White House in 2000 despite wining the popular vote.

Gore has also rocketed to stardom in the years since his failed presidential bid, winning a Nobel Peace Prize last year for his work to raise awareness on the dangers of global warming. The former vice president also was involved in making a documentary on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," which won two Oscars in 2007.

But Gore, who has made millions in the private sector since his days at the White House during stints on corporate boards - including Apple Inc. - and partnerships at venture capital firms, has suggested he has little interest in returning to government. A spokesman for Gore flatly said last week the former vice president has no interest in serving the Obama administration.

Nonetheless, Gore's high profile visit to Chicago is raising eyebrows, even among some of Gore's close advisers.

"The Gore trip is for more than just a chat," a close friend of Gore told CNN's John King. "He wouldn't burn that much carbon flying to Chicago just to talk."

It is so amazing how things work out for the good. First Al Gore has the election stolen from him, and as fate would have it, the law of the harvest is is full effect...Pres Bush has the worse presidency in history and now Al Gore may ride high as an energy expert! It was meant to be and I say Al Gore to EPA or Energy Dept!!!

One doesn't "give" Al Gore a cabinet post. One asks him if he's willing to serve. Mr. Gore doesn't need a job.

"You think it was only the Democratic Party's "liberal wing" that had a problem with Bush STEALING the 2000 election?"

Geez. Gore tried to steal the election. He failed. Get over it.

To Gene at 5:43: Al has defeated Manbearpig and made the world safe for us all. I'm sure Mr. Obama just feels sorry for the ex vice president. He doesn't have very many friends. I'm super serial.

YES!! Head of the EPA (I hope). Perfect fit.

I understand why Gore has lost the desire to work in government, but I would seriously question his commitment to the environment if he turns down this position.
If the environment is truly his calling, then this would be the best position for him to be in. It would be next to impossible to make substantial gains in environmental protection without working with our government as well as govt's around the world.

Gore, you may have made millions in the past few years, but now YOU ARE CALLED BACK TO DUTY. Do what you need to do the help this country and this world. In a hundred years, nobody will look back in awe for how muchh money you made. They WILL look back if you gave that up to stand for your principles.

I could not be more thrilled with Mr Obama. He is showing great wisdom and is keeping his commitments in every area. I have every reason to believe that he will be a truly great president. I would be thrilled beyond words if Al Gore became his energy secretary or the director of the EPA or any other environmental post that requires his 30 plus years of study, wisdom and commitment to the environment. He is respected throughout the world. The United States will regain it's standing in the world with all those within the Obama administration. I would be surprised if Mr Gore leaves his many roles within the private sector to return to Washington, but I can still dream.

Former VP Al Gore should be the secretary of energe Dept. He had been working on global warming for a longtime.

I just get a kick out of our new PE Obama. What a smart man. Another great move, even if it is only a conversation.

Ignore the Obama haters. They say the same thing over and over, and will never be happy with America's choice for our next President. They all have their reasons too...most of them not very nice reasons.

January 20th is only days away. Whew.

The real 'Inconvenient Truth' is that Gore lost the 2000 election fair and square.

My favorite Liberal whine is the one where they say that Bush stole the election in Florida.

What poetic justice we saw this year in the Democratic primaries when Barack Obama was the one who actually stole Florida's votes.

That's the icing on the cake.

The cherry on top is when these same nimrods preach to Republicans to 'get over it' now that Obama is President-Elect.

If you only had any idea how childishly stupid you sound....but 1 in 5 of you has a character disorder, so what are the chances of that?!?

Gore's home state of Tennessee (my state) did not vote for him and we knew him best.

    Why does Obama want him????

Tell me why it's raising eyebrows. Al Gore is a respectable, intelligent man. Obama is talking with a lot of people these days, and if he wants to talk to Al Gore, he will. And if Gore doesn't want to return to politics, he won't. It's that simple. And I'm sick of the word "liberal" being treated as something that someone should be ashamed of. I'm perfectly proud of my so-called "liberal" thinking, and I won't change it no matter how unpopular it becomes. I think that America needs to grow up and realize that- here's a shocker- there are people out there with different opinions than you! Get over it.

    GOOD for Obama!

Al Gore continues to "peddle" his global warming initiative - sort of a "consolation prize" for losing the presidency?.

Al Gore - you LOST - "please try to get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

That's what all the Liberal bloggers are saying about THEIR conservaive opposition!!!!!!!!

And just a question for all of you conservatives- believers in small government- What is small government about government in the bedroom, particularly the bedrooms of gays and lesbians? That sounds more like Fascism to me.

And for goodness sake, get it through your head- Just because global warming may be natural DOESN'T mean it isn't harmful or that we've contributed to it!

I meant to say that we haven't contributed to it. Because we have.

People wanted change. They are getting change. PE Obama and VPE Biden are trying to change the way Washington works. I think the only people who have a problem with it are people who are used to "the old ways", as indicated by the title of this ticker: "Obama, Gore meeting raises eyebrows". Remember, think out of the box. That's what the transition team is doing.

I wish we were in the nineties because I would be working and not looking for a job for over 3 months. I don't know why the Republicans are still so angry. Are you telling me that none of you are effected by this economy. And if you are not then you should be on your knees thanking God because people are hurting. And if Obama, Al, and whoever else can fix this mess of the last eight years please go right ahead.
