Streisand, Bush share kiss

Streisand has long been a critic of the president.
Streisand has long been a critic of the president.

(CNN) - Barbara Streisand is among the Democratic Party's leading Hollywood supporters and has charged President Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections, but all that seemed like water under the bridge Sunday when the famed entertainer appeared at the White House.

Streisand, who was honored at the Kennedy Center Sunday evening for her legendary career, got a kiss on the cheek from the president at the White House shortly before the event kicked off. Streisand did give the president a kiss back.

The event was so surreal it was played on video for attendees of the Kennedy Center honors later in the evening.

"Art transcends politics this weekend," Streisand said of her venture to the Bush White House, according to the Associated Press.

Though Streisand, who has called for Bush's impeachment, said it would be "lovely" if she instead received the award under President-elect Barack Obama.

You people need to learn to respect to office of president, regardless of how you feel about the person in it.

Only time will really tell what affects Bush had on our nation. I never voted for him, but come on. Opinions polls tracking the whining and rants of a nation of selfish imbeciles shouldn't deter a statesman (or woman) just doing the job they were elected to do the best they know how. And there's a nation of people now free from a dictator's terror and torture who might think differently about Bush than you do.

Grow up and show some respect.

She's one talented lady and deserves the award. To say otherwise, you know squat about talent. As for Bush, enough said.

BarBRA Streisand is one of the most talented singers of this generation. She is most deserving of this honor, and as Bush is on the way out, I don't have a problem with her comments at all.

He is still human and there is no reason why she should not have kissed him back. After all we are civilized people. You can still hate what someone does or what they stand for and not hate the person. Although it is very hard in Bush's case not to hate both!

It was disrespectful for bush to put her in an awkward position, but it sounds like she handled it very well with the "art transcends...." comment.
