I saw Fran on the Larry King show awhile back and this lady is one smart cookie. She is not the nutty character she played on TV. I think she would be a fine senator for New York. She's definitely better than many of the so-called politicians that are in the Senate and the House.

All movie stars and lawyers ought to be banned from any political office. They offer nothing. This country is in serious trouble because of inept lawyers (over 90% of our congress is an lawyers) trying to make laws on subject matter which they know nothing about. Then then listen to consultants who bribe them to follow "their" ill ideas – and this country suffers as a result.

I thought senators were elected by the people, not appointed by the governor. Look at the mess this privilege is causing in Chicago with their governor attempting to sell the seat–he considers it worth selling to the highest bidder.

Actress Fran Drescher has the skills to cleanup Washington, well maybe the laundry, the floors, etc, etc, etc. Seriously, I don't see the qualifications, I loved "The Nanny," she was hilarious, but a senator?
Fran if you still got those legs, you can still work in Hollywood. If you do that, I'll stand up and salute you every week. Forget politics, Fran, your talent lays elsewhere.

And where did Hillary start? Decorating governor's mansions, replacing Whilte House silver ware, running hither and thon in gov't jets. Oh, yeah, and dodging bullets in scary fictional places.

Get over yourself. She wasn't qualified to run for Prez. You GIMME A BREAK, Joseph War Vet. Dude, Hilll came with no political qualifications other than the coat tails of her spouse. She will be an excellent Sec of State, in my opinion–But she learned OJT- ON the Job, and has never run for any office I've heard of.

I guess Caroline will get it becuz she also breathed White House air.

I think Fran is a very intelligent woman, but I also think she shouldn't get into politics at the top of the level; maybe she should start out as a council woman or mayor first to get her feet wet.

Fran Drescher is obviously an inteligent and astute business woman. When I have heard her speak on women's health issues or political matters, she seems both thoughtful and well informed. Is it so unbelievable that she could have political aspirations? Why is this any different than Ronald Reagan or Arnold Schwarzenegger? Sonny Bono went to the House of Representatives and Fred Thompson to the Senate. The only difference is that Fran is a woman. This kind of thinking is demonstrated by the comment that she is "easier on the eyes than Pelosi or Hillary". Fran Drescher is certainly as well qualified as many current US senators. Jim Bunning, the current KY senator who was a professional baseball player, immediately comes to mind.

Honestly, this should be decided via a special election now. All we're seeing is power play after power play where governors can skirt the laws by picking jokes like Caroline Kennedy or The Nanny.

Put the power of whom should represent citizens in the hands of citizens. If not, governors would love to become rich by picking their state's next senator (see Illinois).

To Dignity & Intelligence in Office Please – Fred Thompson was in politics and held an elected office before he went into television.

Why so much hate on this board towards Fran Dresher. She may not be the best pick, but she is better then many out there. Why not pick someone who isn't a career politician who has done something good for other people.

Sure Fran was "The Nanny" – a character she played on a TV show. But this woman also has business acumen and has used her brains and success to really help others. More than can be said about many of our politicians today. In addition to women's health, she has been and advocate against violence – having been a rape victim herself. I wouldn't mind seeing someone in a senate seat who has actually done something that directly affects others than some of the other jokers that are up there.
