House Ethics expands Rangel investigation

Rangel is under an ethics investigation

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The House Ethics Committee announced Tuesday it is expanding its investigation into Rep. Charles Rangel.

In a statement the committee said, “…the investigative subcommittee shall have the additional jurisdiction to determine if Representative Rangel violated the Code of Official Conduct or any law, rule, regulation, or other standard of conduct….with respect to contributions of money or pledges of contributions of money to the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City College of New York from any person or entity associate with Nabors Industries.”

Recent press reports have raised questions into Rangel’s support of a tax break for Nabors Industries, a company which donated money to the City College academic center building bearing his name.

Rangel is already under investigation for using official letterhead to solicit funds for that same building, along with using a rent controlled apartment in New York for his political committee and for failing to pay taxes on a resort home the congressman owns in the Dominican Republic.

A congressional source tells CNN the expanded investigation does not include the matter of Rangel steering $80,000 to his son to design his campaign Web site.

Rangel told reporters Tuesday that in light of the allegations of ethical violations he still does not intend to step down from his chairmanship of a key tax writing committee.

Just so there is no confusion, Rangel is a Democrat. It is interesting that some people mistakenly thought Illinois Governor Blagojevich was a Republican. Corruption knows no political party.

Rangel should step down from his position as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. This is one of the most important committees in the House and a man under an ethics investigation should not be calling the shots.

You know, if I were a betting person, I'd be willing to bet that there will be a lot more ethics investigations in the near future. I think that the American people spoke pretty loudly on November 4th, and that there are some people in the House and Senate who should do some serious soul-searching about their motives and activities. Because I think the American people have hit a critical point in tolerance for this kind of crap...

    Rangel NEEDS TO GO!

The Governor of Illinois NEEDS TO GO!

Every Dirty Politician in Illinois and Congress NEEDS TO GO!

    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

If Obama is connected to this then HE NEEDS TO GO AS WELL

It's time Americans take back our Nation and insist that the politicians serve the best interests of this nation .....not their own dirty pockets!

How ironic that he's head of the tax writing committee and failed to pay his taxes on his vacation home. Hopefully, this and other unethical politicians will bite the dust along with the Illinois governor and the senator from Alaska.
