(CNN) – The presidential inauguration party tops the list of formal affairs next January, and President-elect Barack Obama is rumored to be preparing for his big event: He’s believed to have ordered a simple and classic black tuxedo by the union-friendly suburban Illinois-designer Hart Schaffner Marx, a stylist to which the president-elect is said to be faithful, according to the Los Angeles Times.
But most likely all eyes will be on the future first lady’s outfit. So, what will Michelle Obama wear on her husband’s big day?
Women’s Wear Daily is featuring sketches by high-profile designers on its Web site of possible Inauguration Day outfits for Mrs. Obama and among the contenders are simple and classic designer Nicole Miller, the elegant and timeless Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, and the funky and youthful California-based fashionista Betsey Johnson.
And the Obama girls were not forgotten. The Web site features drawings of potential outfits for Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, from dressy skirted coats to children’s gowns.
Mrs. Obama, who is often compared to former first lady and style icon Jackie Kennedy, took some heat for her election night attire as she donned an attention-grabbing red and black Narciso Rodriguez shift dress.
The future first lady has said she often sports modestly priced labels like J.Crew and Donna Rico, and favors local Chicago designer Maria Pinto. But Inauguration Day could call for a pricier piece, and fashion’s elite are prepared. Whatever the future first lady decides for Inauguration Day, the fashion world will surely be watching.
Im sure Michelle will look Beautiful,And the girls will look sweet and cute. Cant wait to see!
tim the stupidy flows out of your comment. Can you please site the last president elect who has cancelled there anguration.
Poor stupid White men that think Cindy Mc Cain is the ideal and Sarah Palin is hot
Face it you are too shallow to recognize that this WOMAN embodies
everything a woman should be... sexy, beautiful, stylish independant,
smart, and so real.....
How dare you insult our new first lady...
I believe it is thinly disguised racism.
Cindy McCain? Goodness.. she's beautiful... she's eye candy.
In your dreams. Meet me in these blogs on January 20, 2013 so I can say I told you so. :-)
Man, some people have a lot of hate in them.
I think she'd be fantastic in something off-the-rack at TJ max. It would send a message too to all of these folks who seem to think that you need to be wearing someone, instead of just being someone.
Obama 08, you go Michelle.
I have liked everything Michele has worn. I think she has a beautiful figure and she carries herself beautifully. Too many times you see tall women slouch and she never does. I just don't get those who have to put women down about their size or shape.
Lets have a look at you Frank!
I am a huge admirer of the Obama family. I am also a professional African American female. I hope Mrs. Obama wears an outfit that is appropriate for this historical occasion. I, and many of my African American female friends, think she wears her dresses too tight. Her taste in clothes is too trendy for the eloquent status she now holds.
She could really learn something about dress from Condi Rice and Oprah.

How can a person be filled with so much hate. I pray for little people like you. But God loves you to. We are ALL children of God. So maybe you should let God into your heart and you wouldn't act and sound so ignorant. The same goes for all you little people with hate in your hearts. you truely are sad, sad, sad.
For all of you pointing out that it will be winter, you do understand that there is indoor heat in DC right? They do not hold the inaugural ball outdoors.
People wear evening clothes in the winter ALL the time, just like they have at every other inaugural ball for 2 centuries.
I agree with the sentiment that she (and the girls) need something around their shoulders in January. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the sketch.
What will she wear to the ceremony, one wonders!
And Allen, chuck it!
I'm not sure who keeps comparing Michelle Obama to Jackie; but I doubt Jackie would have been caught in public in that Halloween dress Michelle wore election night.
Of course it will be a fabulous gown, it's going to be put with all the other inaugural first lady gowns in the Smithsonian. Why should hers be any different from the previous first ladies? Give it a rest haters.
hahaha... pauld is delusional!
WHO RACIST ON HERE:: THEY GOT NO HOPE!!
For those of you commenting with regard to Michelle Obama's backside, get over it. This woman has been taught to be AND is being herself. She loves herself; her husband and children love her, and her family loves her for who and what she is. Go watch the soap operas or read about the vain actresses of "hollywood land" if you want to "escape" to a fantasy unrealistic world. Mrs. Obama is satisfied in the skin she is in and the President-Elect loves her. As long as she is healthy and happy is all that matters.
Hmm, I remember when Bush was inaugurated, the liberals were screaming, "Too expensive!" and saying the money should be used to help people.
I wonder if we'll hear that about Obama's inauguration?
For those losers that do NOT KNOW anything about fashion ... the drawings are ALWAYS drawn with a skinny female ... ALWAYS! Designers fantasy is extra slim so of course you see drawings with a stick figure and IF the buyer decides to pick their 'offer' they will do it to her size.
Second ... ALWAYS .... ALWAYS the First Lady will change dresses for the main party. She will be seen in either 4 or 5 different dresses. NOOO Michelle won't be the first one to do this ... EVERY First Lady does this ....
Matt thinks of a new line in 3..2..1..
Whatever Michelle Obama wears she will look stunning...don't hate because she has a fantastic figure...as far as the girls...they just simply BAROCK whatever they wear too, and Michelle never dresses her girls above their age.
While I am in no way a fashionista, to all you chowderheads out there crying for "something warm, with sleeves", these are designs for the BALL, not the inauguration itself. Formal gowns are generally designed for indoors, warm rooms, with hundreds of people around. I'm sure for the event, she'll be dressed appropriately.
And to those being so shallow that you are picking on her physical appearance, grow up!!! I'm sure you're not the most wonderful specimen on this planet, so quit projecting your insecurities onto this woman who's done NOTHING to offend or denegrate, as you have to her. What losers!!!!
A lipstick on a pig is still a pig!
I would give a dollar to know the political affiliation of these posts who criticize Michelle Obama's figure and call for spending less money on the inauguaration .. I agree, she should dress as she sees "fit"...
